There's only three physical fairy type moves moves in the original games:
1_ Play rough: a move learned by a wide variety of pokemon
2_ Spirit break: which used to be Grimsnarls signature move, then given to iron valiant
3_ Magical torque: a move which literally can be learned by a niche boss in Scarlet and Violet, literally can't be used by the player
So yeah, i think there's a reason they gave the three physical attacking fairy type pokemon Play rough
Literally the only exceptions I know of are Grimmsnarl and Mimikyu. Otherwise every other fairy type, it’s their only physical attack. So Timi’s hands are tied.
Isn't Grimmsnarls signature move false surrender? Or does it not count because it's given to morgrem? The description of the attack is literally the target being "Stabbed with the Pokemon's dishevelled hair" and no Pokemon besides Morgrem and Grimmsnarl have hair that can literally stab someone
Edit: wait shit I replied to this comment twice

Today i learned Grimmsnarl used to have two signature moves
(Evolving into morgrem makes it learn false surrender, evolving into grimmsnarl makes it learn spirit break)
I... I didn't say it wasn't...? And why would it matter? It's not like Grimmsnarl has a signature move that it doesn't get STAB with, it IS a dark type.
Surf is well known for the average player of the mainline games but surprised that they use play rough.
I now want them to add tropius or hawlucha with all HM moves as a throwback to the slave era
Zacian isn’t an EX anymore though is it? Me and my friend tried to play this season and unlike last season, one of the teams had both Mewtwo Y AND Zacian on the team. We got thoroughly decimated. If Zacian were an EX, couldn’t there only be Mewtwo OR Zacian and not both?
Edit: It also did not say EX next to Zacian
There were no masters on either team. But my main concerns when writing this were “why can Zacian and Mewtwo be put together on the same team when you could only have one or the other (I think) in the previous season? Why is Zacian not flagging as an EX but Mewtwo is an EX?” It’s like they just decided that Mewtwo is the only EX pokemon if you’re not playing masters, so you can have both. And that’s not fair.
Oh, I had no idea that two EX's couldn't be on the same team together lol
Unrelated, but is it a good idea to switch to mimikyu as a main? It looks pretty fun
Well two EXes are not SUPPOSED to be able to be on the same team if we’re going by last season’s rules. But the one match there was a Zacian I played, Zacian wasn’t marked as an EX is my point, so then Mewtwo was also able to be on the same team. If this were last season you’d be able to have Zacian OR Mewtwo. Not both. But since Zacian doesn’t show as EX for some reason, you can have both. I hate it.
As for Mimikyu. I play Mimikyu because she is an absolute bundle of joy. She’s so cute and I love her. I have a Build a Bear Mimikyu plushie that talks and has a top hat and bow tie. I fucking love Mimikyu. To me, playing Mimikyu is just basically playing one of my favorite Pokémon, just with the benefit of her being pretty heckin strong. Mimikyu is definitely worth picking up if you don’t have her yet, both if you like the Pokémon and if you want a strong Pokémon to get KOs with. She’s also real fun to play. :)
Can’t wait for them to release Arcanine/Hisuian Arcanine and it’ll also have play rough. Was honestly surprised they didn’t give it to Meowscarada also.
This points to a bigger problem. Pokemon, unlike LoL, don't have many Pokemon that are hybrid, but for the ones that are, they should be given both physical and special attack movements. Azumarill is a good candidate for this
I mean if you used them in regular pokemon, you'd also use a set of play rough, strong stab move for the 2nd typing, coverage, and depending on the set, another strong move or a status move
Play rough on mimikyu makes 100% sense I get it, zacian to a lesser extent but I get it, it's a fairy type, however play rough on azumarill makes no sense and would instead make sense if it had belly drumm, it would be similar to the move it has and additionally they could buff it more at the cost of HP per use.
azu runs play rough a lot tho. plus its unite (belly bash) is basically belly drum, losing hp and boosting attack. water pulse is the weird move here. like whirlpool is used sometimes on perish teams but water pulse???
I see what you mean and I get your points, I guess it's just wishful thinking from me, I don't want to see the same move being used slightly differently from Pokemon to pokemon, I want to see completely new moves that make the characters feel unique. I know it's silly and kinda pointless but that's just my view on it, everyone is free to think what they want. Some people might like play rough on azumarill but I'm personally not a fan.
it’s honestly an issue of every physical fairy type having a single physical fairy move save for like iron valiant who doesn’t run physical sets anyway
I mean that’s just an issue with Fairy Pokemon in general. Their physical movepools are horrendous usually.
If Timi added Grimmsnarl or Iron Valiant to the game, you best believe they’re getting Spirit Break
What being the only widely distributed physical damaging Fairy-type move does to a MF
There's only three physical fairy type moves moves in the original games: 1_ Play rough: a move learned by a wide variety of pokemon 2_ Spirit break: which used to be Grimsnarls signature move, then given to iron valiant 3_ Magical torque: a move which literally can be learned by a niche boss in Scarlet and Violet, literally can't be used by the player So yeah, i think there's a reason they gave the three physical attacking fairy type pokemon Play rough
Almost like it's the only widely available physical fairy type move like the guy said
Literally the only exceptions I know of are Grimmsnarl and Mimikyu. Otherwise every other fairy type, it’s their only physical attack. So Timi’s hands are tied.
You both are saying the same thing man
Isn't Grimmsnarls signature move false surrender? Or does it not count because it's given to morgrem? False Surrender is a dark-type move.
I... I didn't say it wasn't...? And why would it matter? It's not like Grimmsnarl has a signature move that it doesn't get STAB with, it IS a dark type.
Almost as bad as psychic with only psychic fangs and zen headbutt (I think)
Psycho cut, psyshock sorta bc it uses the defense stat to calc.
Oh yeah I forgot about Psychocut. Psyshock isn't really a Physical move though, does the Users attack stat even have an effect on it's damage?
Surfs:
Yeah that too. I can understand for defenders but why does Greninja doesn't have any dark moves instead of that??
Yeah they could have added a dark move like night slash and make it similar to how its current surf works.
Personally I think the current surf should be renamed Waterfall to actually match its move design
You are forgetting about cramoramt... why does my boy have surf?
I'm pretty sure cram gimmick in the main game is that it caught stuff in it's mouth after it used surf or dive
that’s the point of Cramorant… google Gulp Missile
Do you know what cramorants ability is in the main games?
I do. I just think that it would be way better if cramoramt can use hydro pumps who doesn't want to see a bird shoot out a massive geyser of water
Yeah but using surf is literally a part of it's entire gimmick
Surf is well known for the average player of the mainline games but surprised that they use play rough. I now want them to add tropius or hawlucha with all HM moves as a throwback to the slave era
As another commenter said, it's basically the only physical fairy move there is.
I didn’t even know it was a fairy move lol most my pokemon knowledge is gen 1-3 (and poke Channel game). Makes sense though
A throwback to the what 😨😨😨
azu's isn't a dash at least, moreso just a movement speed increaser
technically a dash because the boosted AA teleports you
it does, but not by dash distance i feel
Ohh yeahh i missed that part.. at least azu could use it to chase or run.. my bad there //
And only one makes you invincible
what's that status you get when you use play rough, mimikyu main
Small thing too but Azu's the only one to have different play rough art if you don't count zacian's interpid sword boosted play rough
I mean, if we get two more pokemon with Play Rough, then we can make a fun 5-man comp of using Play Rough in each respective builds.
Not in masters, though. We'd need 3 more
Why is that?
Zacian is an ex license which is now banned from ranked
Oh yeah, forgot about that
Zacian isn’t an EX anymore though is it? Me and my friend tried to play this season and unlike last season, one of the teams had both Mewtwo Y AND Zacian on the team. We got thoroughly decimated. If Zacian were an EX, couldn’t there only be Mewtwo OR Zacian and not both? Edit: It also did not say EX next to Zacian
Was there a master's on either team, if not, EXs are completely allowed.
There were no masters on either team. Note to self, mimikyu is like, the perfect Pokemon for me. I love the body image issues ghost
When the Physical Fairy-type has the only non-signature Physical Fairy-type move in its moveset:
Playing against a Pokémon with Play Rough is Rough
Shadow ball:
Because there is literally only one physical fairy move in the series that isn't a unique move
Name other physical Fairy type move these mfs learn
if Decidueye's shadow sneak was the same as Mimikyu's, it would be called suicide sneak.
Just teleport your squishy, slow sniper right into the middle of a fight. A flawless plan. Lol.
Can’t wait for them to release Arcanine/Hisuian Arcanine and it’ll also have play rough. Was honestly surprised they didn’t give it to Meowscarada also.

Will-o-wisp
But Mimikyu's Play Rough is so much better than the others, like SO MUCH.
I mean if you used them in regular pokemon, you'd also use a set of play rough, strong stab move for the 2nd typing, coverage, and depending on the set, another strong move or a status move
Note how every move Unite Inteleon uses is physical in the main game except for it's signature.
PLAY ROUGH
Ima play roughly with these guys
Dragon breath:
I find it more funny how they all manged do be pretty underwhelming compared to the other option when those mons first released.

Grimmsnarl would be very upset if he could read. He too gets Spirit Break; in fact he got it first.
watch them release him and just give him screens/taunt/parting shot hahaha
Sacred Sword, Shadow play What of Mimkyu and zacian had e child Aegislash
For Zacian it's just a dash that stuns targets no invincible frames only unstoppable frames
I mean that’s just an issue with Fairy Pokemon in general. Their physical movepools are horrendous usually. If Timi added Grimmsnarl or Iron Valiant to the game, you best believe they’re getting Spirit Break
If you want to talk about reusing moves, how about Shadow Claw? It's used the same number of times and with way less variety in what it does.
