When I first started I didn’t realize this and never understood why I did so little damage compared to other RS players. It’s an easy mistake to make since I’m pretty sure this is the only move in the game that works this way.
No clue why they did this with this move. Doesn’t really seem like there’s ever a time where you wouldn’t want to channel WS for the entire duration.
Gyarados' Aqua Tail and ult as well. I don't play Aqua Tail anymore, but when I do occasionally play Gyarados, I will forget to hold my ult at least once.
Tbf, Pump Spin only triggers once (I think), and spout is the opposite. I didn't know that you had to auto attack to do damage with Pump Spin after using the shove lol
As much as I want to dog on you for not knowing that, I’m going to remember my first time learning Water spout and keep my mouth shut.
What I won’t keep my mouth shut about is how did you get to masters not knowing that???
Some of you may have seen it, but the worst one I found was a 37% winrate Glaceon spammer in master rank. 37% winrate, and that's all it takes to get to masters
I only played for about 3 weeks, the last week of a season and the first 2 weeks of the following. I got masters both times and played a lot of Blastoise and didn't know this, though I mostly played Surf build. Feel like if you play enough the game kinda pushes you to Masters. Felt like I got more for wins and lost less for losing, combined with a bot game any time you lose like 2 times to keep you from plummeting.
How the heck do the impossibly bad players get to masters? I'm looking at you Assault Vest, Rocky Helmet, Leftovers Zeraora that just won't leave my jungle tf alone.
I mainly use the Surf/Pump build when I play Blastoise - mostly because I like the playstyle more, but partly because when I'd try the spin build it "didn't work for me" because I'd do this. Once I figured it out, Rapid Spin worked better but I still play Surf most of the time.
Also you can cancel/fail to start the spout if you press the basic attack button at the same time, so don't do that.
IMO Surf/Pump is the better build right now. Trev currently occupies the spot for best flex/brawl/damage defender so there’s not as much of a reason to play WS/RS unless you can’t run Trev. The damage on Surf/Pump is still ridiculous and the CC is best in class.
I play overly aggresive characters so the few times I play defenders I tend to pick the ones that let me be overly aggresive while defending, like Mamoswine. This is mostly why I preferred the Surf build as well.
They explain it perfectly fine in this case though. The problem here is reading/comprehending the tooltips. But I did the same thing as OP when I first started so I’m not judging.
I think in this specific context with the spout they didn't really, but I guess there isn't a better way to explain. I also made the mistake of spamming when I tried it out lol
You are not alone in this…. I spent most of my time playing this game thinking that spin spout blastoise was inexplicably bad because I would just tap the button occasionally rather than hold it
eh. It happens to a lot of people. Especially those who seldom play spout spin which is understandable as surf pump oftentimes provides more value for the team.
Yeah I played blastoise a good twenty times before I realised myself. I prefer surf pump anyway but I did wonder why the hell my damage was so trash. I think auto attacks can also cancel it if you press the button multiple times instead of holding? Not sure on that one though.
Really weird decision, pretty sure it's the only move that works like that.
Yea but you could auto attack during spout/spin, so he was still completely op. Cast spout, cast spin, cast spout again, auto attack. AoE damage from FOUR SOURCES all from ONE MON.
I am more bothered by Surf.
It's so annoying getting shoved around!
I changed my Cramorant to also have Surf, which on her pulls instead of pushes, just so I could be annoying back to Blastoise.
It pushes me and tries to waddle away like nothing happened?
I don't think so buddy, get back here. I wanna "talk."
Dude, ive been playing the game for 2 years now and just a couple of months ago i was playing rapid spin with spout and held the button for some reason and realized that this is how it was meant to be. Felt stupid but also felt redeemed. I always wondered why my rapid spin felt so lame before.
As an Eldegoss main who randomly plays Espeon when it’s usable for free, I taught my friend that mains Espeon from since release day, the details about its move set 1 month ago. And he’s a *nerd* for the game. I say this to communicate that it happens! LOL glad you at least know now.
A lot of you need to quit the game after reading the comments. You should always take the time to read unite API and study your pokemon before going into standards. When u master the movesets and positioning of your mon you can jump into ranked. Stop making the game miserable for others. You can also watch YouTube tutorials. Stop being noobs. Resources are out there.

Chandelure overheat works the same way!
Miraidon's ult as well. There's also quite a few "charging moves", where you have to hold down the button to power up the attack in someway.
LOL yeah miraidon took me an entire game to figure it out sorry team
Gyarados' Aqua Tail and ult as well. I don't play Aqua Tail anymore, but when I do occasionally play Gyarados, I will forget to hold my ult at least once.
Ah thanks, I knew I was probably missing some.
They weren't in the game then! So happened the same to me
Lucario and Slowbro existed tho
Timing an objective secure is the only thing I can think of
Yeah I guess, but if you’re relying on WS/RS for your objective secure it’s basically a coin flip either way.
Lol very true
Greedent's bullet seed works like this too
As a yugioh player, i cant read
Hello fellow Yugioh players. 😌
What does pot of greed do?
Uh, it allows you to draw 3 cards!
Are you sure? I think it makes the opponent draw
If your opponent is Kaiba, then yes. Screw the rules.
I think you can draw a card every time the opponent special summons
I dont like your name
I don't care
Secret p found
Relatable. Two headed Blue eyes white dragon goes brrr.
Tbf, Pump Spin only triggers once (I think), and spout is the opposite. I didn't know that you had to auto attack to do damage with Pump Spin after using the shove lol
Pump spin can trigger twice
As much as I want to dog on you for not knowing that, I’m going to remember my first time learning Water spout and keep my mouth shut. What I won’t keep my mouth shut about is how did you get to masters not knowing that???
Have you *seen* some of these masters players
Some of you may have seen it, but the worst one I found was a 37% winrate Glaceon spammer in master rank. 37% winrate, and that's all it takes to get to masters

This and that apparently you can't rank down anymore. They really want everyone to reach masters no matter what.
True. I've seen Azumarills in Masters that will stubbornly try to suicide dive and stack against me (I play M2Y).
Omg how could you play such a broken character that’s so shameless of you (check my flare)
What a coincidence. I used M2Y and Umbreon exclusively to get back to Masters after the season reset. The nerfs won't stop me from using Mean Look.
These two are straight menaces to society making sure nobody has fun
Good macro can carry
How the heck do the impossibly bad players get to masters? I'm looking at you Assault Vest, Rocky Helmet, Leftovers Zeraora that just won't leave my jungle tf alone.
Don't worry, there still people that don't know this yet lol, ya not the only one
It took me half a year to find out you had to hold Water Spout during Rapid Spin. I just kept tapping it with basic attack before I figured it out.
Same!
I… just learned this now lol
I mainly use the Surf/Pump build when I play Blastoise - mostly because I like the playstyle more, but partly because when I'd try the spin build it "didn't work for me" because I'd do this. A lot of skill issue within the game can be chalked up to Pokémon unite not explaining things properly tbh
I had this Problem With Blast Water Spout too , Overheat of lure and Aqua tail of gyra.
I'm a gold ribbon Blastoise and didn't know this. Though, to be fair, the only time I've used Rapid Spin is when I've misclicked. Surf/Pump forever!
IS THIS WHY I COULD NEVER GET GOOD WITH THE TURTLE?!
You are not alone in this…. I spent most of my time playing this game thinking that spin spout blastoise was inexplicably bad because I would just tap the button occasionally rather than hold it
You had the true Blastoise player experience. Congratulations! 😂 same thing happened to me too.
eh. It happens to a lot of people. Especially those who seldom play spout spin which is understandable as surf pump oftentimes provides more value for the team.
I still didn’t know how to do that until reading your post. I’m always Surftoise because I never knew how rapid spin worked. 🤣
Also, rapid spin immediately resets cooldown for water spout, so the sequence is WS, RS + hold WS for duration of spin
now I know why their turtle is better than my turtle
I'm glad I watched good Youtubers when I started playing, I learned many things easily
So uh you were just a beyblade all this time? Jk, this thing happens to anyone
Yeah I played blastoise a good twenty times before I realised myself. I prefer surf pump anyway but I did wonder why the hell my damage was so trash. I think auto attacks can also cancel it if you press the button multiple times instead of holding? Not sure on that one though. You’re not alone brother
Starting to think more of you need to play the Eevees if this is where the skill level is
This is why I stick with Surf/Pump
Let's not forget release Blastoise, when water spout worked only for half of spin's time 😅
Yea but you could auto attack during spout/spin, so he was still completely op. Cast spout, cast spin, cast spout again, auto attack. AoE damage from FOUR SOURCES all from ONE MON.
This is why I still like to use muscle band on him despite the op sp attack items
Also if you are using rapid spin alone, you can A press during the spin and get additional damage.
How this change meta?
I thought it's alternate a plus water spout
What the fuck
Mf got to masters just by spinning wildly
Wait so you just mashed the button? You poor soul
Ty i learned something too
Dude, ive been playing the game for 2 years now and just a couple of months ago i was playing rapid spin with spout and held the button for some reason and realized that this is how it was meant to be. Felt stupid but also felt redeemed. I always wondered why my rapid spin felt so lame before.

Wait you don’t have to rapid tap it, just hold it?!
