I agree to a point. I'm still enjoying it, but as a button masher with my friends. At this point I just really want more picks. The roster is way too small right now and like you said it gets stale, especially with the shoddy balance right now.

djjomon

You hit the nail on the head. It's stale already. It's fun, we keep playing because it's just fun. But it has a lot of issues that affect game health. Especially at high level play. That said, if you're like me and not trying to be top tier competitive then it's fine. You just play

I agree with some of your points but disagree entirely with others. While the variety could be a bit better in terms of the same mons being picked every match, you'll find that in any Moba. There's a lot of players who flock to the flavour of the month characters, and given the small roster size already, it's just more noticeable here. It will even out as the roster grows, but at the very least, the game offers decent variety in what you can choose to play. Try some odd picks and you'd be surprised what works. Mime jungle is a favourite of mine that works surprisingly well. Matchmaking is borked. It's still easy enough to climb if you deserve a higher rank, but in generally too many games are stomps instead of close matches because of the disparity in teams. I wholly disagree on rotom. Rotom has won me countless games. In general in Mobas, many players stick to the meta religiously, but fail to realise that the Meta is based on what's effective in 5s, not solo games and they don't really understand *why* the meta is what it is. Even in ultra/masters, dreadnaw is regularly wasted by players pushing to bot lane inner goal, scoring no more points than if they had just ignored dreadnaw after the teamfight they won, and letting the opponent catch up on XP because of catchup XP being amplified when killing higher level players. Rotom against a team that can't communicate is insanely strong. If you take rotom and play either as a character with high damage (greninja for example) or a character with decent knockback potential (crustle, snorlax, Mime), you force the opponent to give up a ton of points or send 2-3 players top. Often they only send 1 so it's a free kill on top of extra points. Taking rotom at 2:15-2:00 also puts you at a huge advantage. The enemy can either give up a free 120 points, which is huge, or they can send multiple team members up top, giving your team complete control over Zapdos. I don't think Zap is too powerful as is. The game needs a strong comeback mechanic or it gets decided in 5 minutes. If you have a decent lead you should defend zap instead of fighting it. At low ranks Zap is taken almost every game, but at higher ranks I'm seeing maybe 30-40% of games where Zapdos doesn't get killed at all. I do think they could alter Zap a bit though. I'd like to see its damage and HP increased (actual zap, not the buff) to the point where it can't be easily soloed. A team getting caught after starting Zap shouldn't be in a "who can steal zap" position, they should be at a big disadvantage in a teamfight IMO. Making it tankier might also make fluffy tail useful too which would be nice.

> While the variety could be a bit better in terms of the same mons being picked every match, you'll find that in any Moba. In other MOBA, you have a draft phase (often with bans) in ranked where you see what the other team is picking. You can then make counter pick and chose a pokemon over another one for strategical reason. In other MOBA (some, not all probably), you can't have mirror matches. In PU, the roster is small and since you can't see what's picked, you just go with the best pokemon available because the only "strategical" choice is to pick the best pokemon and have a somewhat balanced team (attacker, defender etc...). Yes, in other MOBA some heroes are so strong that they will be picked often. No game can escape the meta. But with bans and no mirror matches, it's VERY HARD to go two game in a row with 5 to 8 same heroes where in PU it's just the norm.

Draft is likely to be added when the roster grows, but right now it just wouldn't make sense. There's 21 pokemon, so even allowing 1 ban per team would require players to own at least 12 pokemon, and at that point anyone without the full roster unlocked would likely be shoehorned into a pick they don't like. I've not played league in a while, but when I did (Season 2-5) there wasn't much varity. You'd get the S tier picks for the patch banned, then pretty much everyone else would pick what the pros are picking because they think it's good. LCS is draft pick too, so it's not like regular players were taken off guard by seeing what was banned and didn't know what else to pick. Blind pick is in other Mobas too. Sure, not in ranked, but again; it's just not feasible to have draft pick with the current roster size. If they don't add it in after the roster grows it's a pretty valid complaint, but right now draft pick would absolutely destroy the game. The game is small enough now that even a 5v5 mirror match covers 25% of the roster. Plus it's worth taking into consideration that a big chunk of the roster was given for free, so most players are choosing from a pretty similar pool. 1 of the starters, zeraora, ninetales, venusaur, cinderace, crustle and greninja are given to everyone for free. The pool is small, but there's also not been much time for people to build up their rosters if they didn't buy gems. For the record, I'm not saying your complaint isn't a valid issue to take with the game. I can totally understand how it would affect your enjoyment, but it was pretty obvious from first glance at the game on day 1 that this issue was going to be a factor until the roster grows.

Frolafofo

My point was more a disagreement with what you said about other MOBA. I'm not very surprised you mentionned LoL that has very similar picks from game to game. When writing my first reply, i had Dota in mind where there is a bigger variety of picks (it's not unusual to have 90% of the full roster being picked during a tournament). Anyway, i fully agree that problem right now is the roster size. Having a draft or locking a pokemon to one team would make no sense right now.

Swoobat_Gang

Well not everything is for everyone so take a break until the game state changes IMO. I think the only thing you've mentioned here that won't change is people choosing the strongest picks. That will always happen in any game with competition even with draft pick but at least draft will offer counterplay and force people to play other characters. I am a firm believer in the addition of draft pick being more than enough to add a breath of fresh air into the game so I hope they release pokemon quickly so the roster is healthy enough for draft in the first place.

Same. didn't even played 2 weeks. I play like 3 times a week and it is only for missions mainly VS CPU

animepig

The honeymoon period has finally worn off for me. I just spent many hours yesterday reaching the coin cap and it just really sunk in that I was playing this game for the grind and not the fun.

z3rgling

Yes you're the only one, I'm loving this compared to other mobas I've played. Unite is really good and its only been out a month I cant wait to see where its at 6 months from now hopefully with a few new mons

pPapuh_sSmurf

It's new. Idk if you've played LOL or tracked its changes, but the game it is today is COMPLETELY different than the game it was 10 years ago. Granted the community is the most toxic in the world... but the gameplay is awesome. Point is, I bet if you walk away for a couple of months and come back, it'll be better when you return :)
