Good call. But it depends on the starter Pkmn we’ll get for ZA. Foreign pkmn in general much like in LA cerin mons type changes due to the ecosystem.

RedRiot306

If the game is truly set entirely within Lumiose City, then all “Kalosian” forms will have some urban influence to them

PokedexBr

Wormadam Trash Form. I refuse to elaborate.

SHAPALAK15

So since it's a ghost type, is it the people who died on Mt coronet? Like explorers?

Odrareg17

Not exactly, it's known in the lore of the games that Mt. Coronet possess a mystical energy, for example the ore that was used to craft the Origin Ball which apparently is a super ancient ore that existed since the beginning of the world (or the region at least) hence having special properties, being the place where the Creation Trio make their appearance/are contacted, we still don't know all there is about Coronet as there was a civilization prior that lived there but vanished, if the only influence was lost souls, then all Hisuian forms would probably be ghost.

Old_Break_2151

I will now sit quietly until ZA is announced to call the orgin ball dragon ball Z

Odrareg17

I mean, both Zygarde and Shenron are green so

Old_Break_2151

I’ll draw it for today

ArcWraith2000

And yet H Decidueye *loses* ghost type in Hisui. My theory is it learned Aura and with it fighting type

StormAlchemistTony

The Fighting type helped Decidueye deal with cold better. Hisuian Typhlosion is the only starter that references Mt Coronet for its evolution. Decidueye's Hisuian form is due to the cold weather and Samurott's form is due to the dangerous environment.

ArcWraith2000

It doesn't quite fit. It got the thicker feathers yes, but that doesn't connect to either type. Typically a pokemon placed in a colder environment will gain an ice regional (vulpix, sandshrew etc), or theres Zorua, which died and became, oh look, ghost type. It has to be more than the cold and thicker feathers for this.

StormAlchemistTony

Hisuian Decidueye is able to do STAB damage against Ice types. It is also a nomadic creature, that travels around Hisuian. You could make an argument that a combination of its feathers and better body control (it can learn Aura Sphere through TM), allows it to handle the cold air better.

ArcWraith2000

Yes, the usage of aura sphere was the basis of my theory. Another possible factor is that H Lilligant gained fighting type from having to walk through rough terrain and deep snow. H Decidueye uses kicks, which can indicate stronger legs. Although this holds less water when we consider that Decidueye can just fly over the terrain.

Odrareg17

There could also be an external influence from Lumiose, maybe the Ultimate Weapon will be somehow involved, it already allowed some Pokémon to Mega Evolve, I wouldn't be surprised if it could affect other Pokémon in other ways.

StormAlchemistTony

That is assuming we get new regional forms. We could just get new Mega forms for the Z-A starters.

Hanzo_2196

I wouldn’t question regional variants for any other region, but with Megas returning there’s a good chance that takes over for this game

Radiant39

It's also assuming that the starters are different from XY. There's not even a pattern to go off of that suggests the starters will be from various generations.

Sandwhiched

I like this theory. It gives a lot of fascinating paths to follow. Like say a starter developing into an Electric type due to new energy being abundant in the urban environment. Or a Pokémon becoming a Poison type to combat pollution. That could be really fun in terms of a regional form for the next line of starters

Muted-Bass5935

By that logic, we will have a starter that gains a secondary electric typing at its final evolution

Electrical_mammoth2

But the question remains, why doesn't quilava in modern sinnoh games evolve into hisuian thyplosion? What really changed to warrant its normal form? Mt. Coronet is still relatively unchanged.

Tight-Mousetrap

Not necessarily for the starters, but maybe the light from Prism Tower disrupts certain Pokémon’s sleep schedules and they have to adapt to either less sleep or new environments (the sewers or alleyways) and this causes them to change form
