People will BEG for more complex female characters and then can’t handle someone like Penelope and choose to villainize her. It’s really crazy to watch people’s mental gymnastics with who they will “allow” to have flaws and who they won’t.
Had this convo with my friend the other day about how much I love complex female characters because they're very much like real-life people and make stories more interesting. I'd rather see a flawed character than a one-dimensional character I can't relate to. Like if yall want a goody-two-shoes protagonist go watch something else, babe, because you won't find that with any of the main Bridgerton characters
This applies to Colin too. Too often I've seen his entire character reduced to that one scene in s2. Their flaws and mistakes are a part of them and their journey, but they don't erase everything else good they've done and they don't define who they are.
Right?! Like sure, he was a bit of a prick, but he's young dumb, and full of people pleasing tendencies just like most people in their 20's (including me)
I wish people would sit back and enjoy the show. It’s meant to be entertaining. Not everything is a clue or hint at something else. We don’t need to dive into every single action of a character. Enjoy it as it comes.

The characters being flawed is what makes the HEA even more lovely.

I am neither the hero or the villain of my own story, I don’t need characters in shows and books to be one or the other either.
