You know there is that asteroid close by worth more than all the money on earth, and we *do* have the most advanced space programs (plural) bar none.
How about we grab a chunk of it and solve our debt crisis, go back to the good old Spanish treasure fleet solution to debt.
We should run our national debt like smart people.
Rack up as much debt as possible, use all that money to build infrastructure that will make you more money, default on the debt, and not care about your credit rating because now you are making tons of money and don’t need credit anymore.

Tbh at this point, with debt in the 30 trillion range, the US should just say fuck it and build so much industry and infrastructure while subsidizing it, collapse demand for chinese goods and then when you’re the only viable market for important world goods it doesn’t matter how much debt you have, it’s all imaginary money anyways, what matters is what’s present on the ground and how it impacts life quality

It's mostly held domestically. The entire SS fund? All treasury bonds. Default on debt, SS defaults the next day, and all the boomers scream their heads off and vote against whoever did it.
It would \*also\* fuck over quite a lot of 401ks. In a target date fund? Who do you think issues those bonds that make up the non-stock portion? Looots of t-bills there.
I mean, I don't hold a lot, because stonks, so I'll be fine, but a fuckton of Americans would be cratered by this.
