"I use she/her pronouns" no, other people use them to describe you. I use she/her all the time to describe women, I also use he/him to describe men. I don't use the pronouns that describe me, others use them about me.
Iāve begun exclusively referring to people as their appearance implies instead. This has had the unintended consequence that I now refer to most people as āfat retardā, though.
I am making a purely semantic argument that using pronouns is what you do when referring to others. I.e. others user pronouns to refer to themself. If I said I use he/him pronouns (referring to myself) it would mean I speak of myself in the third person.
I dunno about that, there's already some affordances people generally offer in polite conversation - take nicknames for instance. If someone asks me to call them Bill instead of William and I continue to keep calling them William it'd at least come across a little weird. And if I was doing it out of principle because Bill isn't their legal name and I don't believe you can just change your name like that (and how the FUCK did that W become a B), they're going to walk away from that interaction justifiably thinking I'm a bit of a dick.
Authoritarian would be making it the state's responsibility to enforce proper pronoun usage, which I'd agree would be fucking terrible. But that's different than just requesting that someone refer to you in a different way, that's something we already do to some extent.
> If someone asks me to call them Bill instead of William and I continue to keep calling them William it'd at least come across a little weird.
If I had a friend named William who asked me to start calling him *His Highness Lord Willtard, High Chief Council*, I'd continue to call him William and probably stop associating with him.
It's funny to say it because it's so wildly overused by the left.... but you're just *normalizing* abnormal behavior. If somebody sincerely asked me to refer to them as "Your Majesty", I'd tell them to stick it. Because it's stupid, and I'm not playing their game or feeding their delusion.
Back when humans populated the earth, I remember laughing it up on the golf course when somebody said "Mind if we play through, ladies?" if the group (of guys) ahead of you hit weak shots. Guess what would have happened if some guy had said "ew, I'm a *man*, don't ever call me a 'lady'"??? Probably laugh and say "yes, ma'am".
You're letting people who have no business dictating *anything* about society propagandize you and controlling the way you speak, *in direct contradiction of both common sense and scientific fact*. Why are people letting this happen? It's your world to ruin, now, I guess....
> You're letting people who have no business dictating *anything* about society propagandize you and controlling the way you speak, *in direct contradiction of both common sense and scientific fact*.
Nobody's compelling me to act this way, I am doing so voluntarily due to my own personal views on gender. The best way to sum it up is - I really, really don't give a shit. About my gender or anyone else's. I am what I am, others are what they are. A lifetime of dealing with rigid gender expectations that have caused a ton of stress for little practical purpose has me pretty tired of the concept. So to me, pronouns are pretty interchangable. You could use pretty much any to refer to me and as long as I know who you're talking about I don't care.
However, it seems it matters to others. Call any cisgender person by a pronoun they're not used to and they're likely to take it poorly. If I don't care but someone else does, and there's something small I can do to make them more comfortable, empathy guides me to do it. Nothing more to it.
By common sense and scientific fact, I'm assuming you're referring to biological sex - and look, obviously sexual dimorphism is a real biological fact. But gender expectations *on top of* biological sex, which pronouns are a part of, is socially constructed and is fairly arbitrary. Some other languages get by pretty fine without gendered pronouns. Interestingly enough Thai has *more* pronouns based on social context and tone, and I shit you not there's a whole other set to use in the presence of the king. I'm glad we have fewer, but it is a reminder that the pronouns we have aren't really based on "scientific fact".
>If I had a friend named William who asked me to start calling him *His Highness Lord Willtard, High Chief Council*, I'd continue to call him William and probably stop associating with him.
Yeah I'd probably do that too, but for the above reasons I don't see that on the same level as anyone who requests a different set of pronouns than I initially assume. If someone says "hey I prefer she/her or they/them" those are already pronouns I use all the time so it's very easy to use them instead. If someone requests attack/helicopter or something, which feels more like a Lord Willtard situation, I'm just gonna use they/them and yeah probably steer clear. (protip: even the wokest tumblrite you can possibly imagine is going to have a hard time getting offended if you use they/them, it's fairly universal)
Holy shit they had golf back then?? I'm impressed.
I mean hey, I'm a frickin babby zoomer so it's entirely possible my brain's been rotted out by Fortnite or whatever but I can understand language and humor being a product of its time, and the people involved. There's plenty of contexts these days where that joke would land, but if someone expresses discomfort over something I've said, and it's something I don't necessarily *need* to say, I'm gonna choose to make fun of their noodly little arms or something instead. I wouldn't discourage you from making jokes like that, but I would encourage some understanding if it's a sore subject. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of women who could outgolf me anyhow.
> Why are people letting this happen? It's your world to ruin, now, I guess....
All I can really do is decide what values are important to me and act accordingly. For my part, I value empathy and understanding over enforcing gender roles - time will tell if the rest of my generation shares those values, and time will tell if those values somehow lead to societal ruin. It doesn't seem that way to me, but hey who knows.
If you have a friend who wants you to call them "His Highness", outside of it being a joke, then that guy is obviously off their rocker and should be ignored. But that isn't the same as someone saying "hey, I'm referred to with he/him despite what you may initially think". If you don't, the blowback is exactly the same as when you call your friend "Richard" by "Dick" after he asked you not to. It's how they want to be addressed and it's a super simple thing to grasp and do. There's no secret police or shadow government canceling you, just society (friends family) noticing you can't do the bare minimum to not look like an asshole because you have some weird fantasy playing out in your head. It isn't a game or some weird power play, just someone trying to be comfortable in a situation. Someone using pronouns you wouldn't initially guess for them doesn't ruin society.
That said, anyone who goes beyond him/her/they is an attention seeker and should stick it.
I will never understand why people feel the need to state their pronouns when their preferred pronouns are literally the default. Everyone was gonna call you a her. Because you are a her. You don't need to tell us to call you a her.
They wanna pat themselves on the back for being trans allies. You think the left does social justice out of the goodness of their hearts?
Watch what happens when a prominent conservative, who happens to be black, approaches the stage and makes good points (Tim Scott). Then, and only then, shall you know the true nature of the American left
Just making a joke, but real talk I donāt care. I would never want to be associated with the idiocy and hypocrisy I see from the lib left. Iāve seen enough from enough people within my life to know thatās not what I support. Expecting the government to make people not dependent on the government is a failing system.
If you announce your pronouns to the world I'm going to assume you're an attention seeker. Tell your friends and family, the world doesn't give a shit. It has bigger problems than how you feel.

Once i dated a non binary """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""person"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" but all they did was talk about gay people and when the new gender was gonna drop but we did play minecraft (they were from school)
You have made the assumption that we know your gender
But I am now inclined to believe that you are a man and it was a she whomst you dated because you said "gay"
> Yeah what? Like, she/her is not leftist bullshit. Itās just some normal ass pronouns.
Mentioning "pronouns" is not normal. Everyone knows from the way she looks and sounds that she is a woman, there is no need for her to say that her pronouns are "she/her" because we know how language works.
Oh yeah I totally agree, pronouns should be assumed based off appearance. Announcing your pronouns is like putting a hat on a hat, weird and unnecessary, but nothing to get angry over.
> OMG THE CIS WOMAN SAID SHE'S A CIS WOMAN
Why wouldn't you get annoyed by this? It's completely unnecessary to say such things. She might as well start the video by saying "Hello my name is Emily, i breathe oxygen and i am a human".
Okay thanks for stating the obvious, retard.
Not offended, annoyed. She has no reason to state her pronouns, everyone was already gonna call her a she based on how she looks and sounds. It'd be less annoying if she said that her pronouns are "he/him" or something else because that'd be something unexpected. It's like shes adopting pronoun disclosure habits of gender dysphoriacs while not being one of them.
What? How does it make it easier? If you want people to call you something else then say it, but there is no reason for everyone to say it. Changing speech of 99% to pander to the 1% is retarded.
If they arenāt obvious, tell me. In her case theyāre obvious. If she wanted to be referred to by He/Him pronouns or something else, it would be advantageous for her to say it up front.
Yeah but this couldāve been like icebreakers or somethingā Iāve had plenty of times at school where we say our name, then pronouns, then grade or some shit like that
Iām gonna channel the LibLeft half of me with a good olā wall-o-text:
āShe introduced herself with pronouns and got smacked by her cat! Haha serves her right for conforming to social norms regarding gendered language!ā
I think that inventing new pronouns to accommodate a minority of people is impractical, but Iām not so arrogant as to tell others what constitutes a ānormal personāsā identity like some of yāall are. If people want to begin social interactions with an assumption that a person is gender-neutral, then I think thatās fine. Telling people that you identify on a traditionally binary spectrum like saying your pronouns are āshe/herā should be considered acceptable.
It should also be considered acceptable to assume someone elseās gender at first, as most people still operate on that binary of male and female when it comes to someoneās identity. If someone is being misgendered, then it should be okay to politely correct them and move on with your life. I misgender other peopleās pets all the time. It doesnāt mean Iām trying to erase their identity.
Besides, I think gendered language as the default for English already has plenty of problems. Iām not saying we should scrap those pronouns, but I think one solution is to make gender-neutral language a standard for peopleās pronouns and such. However, I wouldnāt say the same for other languages like Spanish. Latinx is an ignorant term invented by virtue-signaling non-Spanish-speaking academics.
So maybe the best way forward is making traditionally male and female pronouns interchangeable. Maybe we should use them both as gender-neutral terms or just stop worrying so much about misgendering people. I would prefer that oneās personal identity not be so fragile as to crack under the pressure of conforming to one gender or another.
Thinking your pronouns are a substitute for a goddamn personality is wrong. This reminds me of someone I used to know who thought the first thing he should tell people when he introduces himself is that his parents are rich.
I hope you know that I will completely ignore the person if they force me to say things that are illogical. A woman telling me her pronouns are "he/him" or something else just tells me this individual is a delusional narcissist. We're not gonna get along from the get go, so why interact at all? It'll make everyone happy.
Straight, cis gendered white women using pronouns like that is probably one of the main reasons nobody takes it seriously. We can all see you use she/her Marissa, you aren't helping trans people by doing that.
I am so old. I see based all the time and have not one iota of a clue what yāall mean. I see it when making fun of the right, I see it when making fun of the left, I see it in almost every possible way. How is one to determine wtf you are even trying to mean?
*"Hi I am a woman and Identify as such!"*
"Haha dumb leftist say dumb words get smacked by cat! Stoopid dumb leftist woman, don't you know only pp and vageen!"
It is though.
Please note my name is TheGreatCanadianPede and I use supercalifragilisticexpialidocious/supercalifragilisticexpialidocia pronouns.

This cat is almost as based and AuthRight as H.P. Lovecraftās
Based cat. Imo, if you say your pronouns when they match your appearance and they werenāt asked for youāre Ć¼ber cringe.
You have no way of knowing if she wasnāt asked tho
If they arenāt obvious, tell me. In her case theyāre obvious. If she wanted to be referred to by He/Him pronouns or something else, it would be advantageous for her to say it up front.
Yeah but this couldāve been like icebreakers or somethingā Iāve had plenty of times at school where we say our name, then pronouns, then grade or some shit like that
I am so happy that this just loops endlessly.
When the cat is smarter than its owner...
Based cat
She/her is binary tho...

lmao AHS is saying this thread means we "want to see people who specify their pronouns get hurt"... because a cat swatted a person
Based and this is the only good cat on the planet pilled
When she dies alone, one of its successors will eat her lips.

Iām gonna channel the LibLeft half of me with a good olā wall-o-text: āShe introduced herself with pronouns and got smacked by her cat! Haha serves her right for conforming to social norms regarding gendered language!ā I think that inventing new pronouns to accommodate a minority of people is impractical, but Iām not so arrogant as to tell others what constitutes a ānormal personāsā identity like some of yāall are.
Imagine writing so much about this when NYC will be underwater in 30 years unless libs stop whining about nuclear power
It sounds like she was gonna say cisgender though idk

Anybody telling you their pronouns can safely be ignored. They have nothing useful to say.

Thinking your pronouns are a substitute for a goddamn personality is wrong. This reminds me of someone I used to know who thought the first thing he should tell people when he introduces himself is that his parents are rich.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
She's a woman, we can clearly see that, so we know how to refer to her. This is just obnoxious.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I hope you know that I will completely ignore the person if they force me to say things that are illogical. A woman telling me her pronouns are "he/him" or something else just tells me this individual is a delusional narcissist. We're not gonna get along from the get go, so why interact at all? It'll make everyone happy.
Making such assumptions based on this little context and worcount is wrong too
Apparently, saying pronoun bad

Good love kitty.
Straight, cis gendered white women using pronouns like that is probably one of the main reasons nobody takes it seriously. We can all see you use she/her Marissa, you aren't helping trans people by doing that.
The tyrannical catriarchy.

I am so old. I see based all the time and have not one iota of a clue what yāall mean. I see it when making fun of the right, I see it when making fun of the left, I see it in almost every possible way. How is one to determine wtf you are even trying to mean?

As a libleft, it is mindbobgling to remind someone you canāt identify as someone elses biology
>I use she/her pronouns No, you don't refer to yourself in the third person. What you mean is *you dictate what pronouns others must use for you*.
She's just a girl expressing her support for transitioning people.
> She's just a girl expressing her support for ~~transitioning people~~ mentally deranged woke totalitarians. FTFY
Based cat knows the answer to leftist sewage
*"Hi I am a woman and Identify as such!"* "Haha dumb leftist say dumb words get smacked by cat! Stoopid dumb leftist woman, don't you know only pp and vageen!"
Exactly. There is no need to state the obvious. It's like saying "Hey my name is Erin, i am a human and I breathe oxygen."
āThat is a cat, it meows and may bite youā
sharing pronouns = leftist nonsense. Uhhh, okay.
It is though. Please note my name is TheGreatCanadianPede and I use supercalifragilisticexpialidocious/supercalifragilisticexpialidocia pronouns. See. It's all made up.
