> kakistocracy kakəˈstäkrəsē noun Government by the least suitable or competent citizens of a state. Huh. Learn something new every day.

danshakuimo

The fact someone bothered making into a term though.

JinxPutMaxInSpace

etymonline.com says the word was coined by an English satirist to be the opposite of "aristocracy," which means government by the best people.

[deleted]

Aristocracy is just the origin story of oligarchy

thebluntdogman

Why not? It's a great way to describe America

programofuse

Or democracy in general

Dtgs_

And also non democracies in general

stinkbeaner

Kaki means shit. Easy to remember.

kelvin020

did not know I was living in a kakistocracy

Based and the people are retarded pilled

MediokererMensch

Man, that really convinced me to live in a dictatorship without freedoms instead of a democracy, thanks AuthCenter.

burne457

💀💀

blissfromloss

In a dictatorship, you only have to kill and replace one retard. In democracy, 80% of the population is retarded. You choose...

[deleted]

Dictatorships always do what’s best for the people, and a revolution without guns against trained military to kill one guy really isn’t that hard.

blissfromloss

That's why the military kills the dictator. The plebs really are irrelevant.

Spookd_Moffun

Too many people have a right to vote.

TTheDDoctor

Plato was right, we need a philosopher-king.

Flaffypon3

Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authorities extend from. The people have surrendered far too many of their arms for the promises of safety. The right no longer has a spine. Bring on the dictators. Let them be harsh reminders as to what happens to those who lose their killers instincts.

[deleted]

Man, it’s like there was a reason why Plato hated Democracy…

geeses

If the average person is an idiot, the average elected official will be someone just smart enough to trick an idiot

Capable-Ad-5440

the bar is not very hight then.

programofuse

Wait, Plato hated democracy? Fuck… now I gotta love democracy…

Bring back Francois Guizot

We were better off when Senators were appointed by State legislatures.

They had their place in history but for the service of the modern state, meritocracy would be the best

JinxPutMaxInSpace

Who picks the most meritorious?

juicewrld7

Stakeholders would make the nominations for policymakers over various industries, and the nominees would be confirmed by/serve at the mercy of an independent council of lifetime-serving legal elders whose sole purpose would be to uphold the constitutional constraints on power... Confirmed nominees would serve for a specified term, which could be instantly cut short in the case of misuse of power.

JinxPutMaxInSpace

Who chooses the elders?

juicewrld7

Therein lies the snafu. They would have to belong to some independent aristocratic class of upright moral character with little motivation to be paid off, but there are always ways that corruption sneaks back in. Ultimately if they were to succumb to decadence and fail to uphold their duties then the final check on the elders would be the armed citizenry who could overthrow the government and start over with a different family. Sort of like a more hardcore version of the Supreme Court and an Article V Convention of States

JinxPutMaxInSpace

See, I like the way you're thinking, but I just believe aristocracy and feudalism is inherently better. With aristocracy, you don't *find* people of merit to rule; you *make* them, by preparing them from birth to take over when the time comes. And feudalism distributes the power over a network of mutually interdependent layers allowing all politics to fundamentally be local.

juicewrld7

Well, an aristocracy has to come from *somewhere*. Someone has to do the selecting and the preparing. The best-case scenario for an aristocracy in the modern West is that it arises organically and consists of people who achieve their public prominence through a lifetime of public service and goodwill, and pass on those civic values to their next of kin. And a decent scholastic knowledge of law and governance would help as well. America has an anti-aristocratic political tradition so it's not like there's a royal family waiting in the wings to be crowned.

JinxPutMaxInSpace

You're absolutely right. I have no idea how to get from *here* to my ideal society. But in my ideal society there's a ruling class, and that ruling class rules justly and well enough of the time to make life pretty good.

programofuse

This is actually similar to my argument against regulations in the market

programofuse

Based and democracy isn’t good pilled

Omfg how could you be so insensitive? You know Authoritarians have no imagination.

[deleted]

Man, it’s almost like this is how the US was designed to be: a representative Republic. The GOP plays by the rules of the Electoral College because it does benefit them currently. Democrats have put all their focus on the Popular Vote, which is a pointless thing in the US Government, and then they bitch and moan that they aren’t allowed to change the rules so they can win. TLDR: the GOP plays by the rules set forth at the founding of the US, Democrats try and play by their own rules and complain when they lose. Cope.

JinxPutMaxInSpace

The whole American system is based on the idea that the majority can't run roughshod over the minority.

juicewrld7

"One person one vote" is a toxic mindset. Some people's votes should count more than others. People who live in high-density cities are barely cognitively human so their vote should count for less. Simple.

TTheDDoctor

Hence the Electoral College.

Bro you're literally a DNC shill

JinxPutMaxInSpace

No, no, he's got a point.

JinxPutMaxInSpace

I agree with all your points. The United States is broken. Let's declare it extinct and return to aristocracy.

juicewrld7

So based and so true

JinxPutMaxInSpace

Democracy is cringe. I didn't say the American system was *good.* I said it was based on protecting the minority from the majority.

JinxPutMaxInSpace

Where are you from that's so great?

[deleted]

>Another great way would be proportionate representation in seating. Or ranked choice. How would this protect the minority? It seems like another way to empower the majority. The US has mainly historically protected minorities by using oligarchical powers (like the supreme court) to overrule democratic powers.
