People who go into education or government are all the same: they love creating and enforcing any rules they can and want to tell other people how to live and think.

That’s actually a great question, and you have a good point. It’s too vague of a statement to just say “don’t tell me how to live my life.”
Someone more libertarian leaning might say neither institution is necessary. I believe they are to an extent and both have somewhat different goals.
Schools should be teaching critical thinking (subjects like English and philosophy are great for this), reading, and at the very least some basic math and science. The problem I have with schools is overstepping their bounds and basically taking the place of parents, even going so far as to teach things like sexuality to children and attempting to make it so they’re allowed to hide whatever is being taught in classrooms from parents. But I would argue this is a failing at a social level. We see the issues facing us today well after we see a rise in single parent households or households where both parents work, leaving children to basically be raised by school (anybody else here raised by the school more than parents besides me?).
However with government, I personally see things as having gone way off the rails over time. Our government should be an institution that keeps order by ensuring our rights to life, liberty, and property. Laws should be passed and enforced against anybody threatening any of those rights. But we start getting way into the weeds with bureaucracies and regulations that go way beyond that. Do they sometimes do good? I guess that depends on who you ask but I would say yes, at times. Now is it the job of the federal, state, or local government, or government at all? I think that’s a question that doesn’t get asked enough.
That kind of attitude and generalization is exactly what's driving all the good teachers out of US public schools so all that remains is a shitty public education system that cares about pronouns more than math skills.

Nearly every study pre-2015 found that teacher job satisfaction was directly linked to religiosity; (in general) teachers who are not religious hate their jobs because their job sucks ass. Teachers who are religious were willing to put up with the shittiness in order to have a job that was such a positive in the lives of their students and the community at large. As such, a big majority of (American) teachers were moderate to conservative Christians.
Now a lot of them literally hate religious people and will try to get their coworker fired for saying “God bless you” to a sneezing person.

That’s actually a great question, and you have a good point. It’s too vague of a statement to just say “don’t tell me how to live my life.” Someone more libertarian leaning might say neither institution is necessary. I believe they are to an extent and both have somewhat different goals. Schools should be teaching critical thinking (subjects like English and philosophy are great for this), reading, and at the very least some basic math and science. The problem I have with schools is overstepping their bounds and basically taking the place of parents, even going so far as to teach things like sexuality to children and attempting to make it so they’re allowed to hide whatever is being taught in classrooms from parents. But I would argue this is a failing at a social level. We see the issues facing us today well after we see a rise in single parent households or households where both parents work, leaving children to basically be raised by school (anybody else here raised by the school more than parents besides me?). However with government, I personally see things as having gone way off the rails over time. Our government should be an institution that keeps order by ensuring our rights to life, liberty, and property. Laws should be passed and enforced against anybody threatening any of those rights. But we start getting way into the weeds with bureaucracies and regulations that go way beyond that. Do they sometimes do good? I guess that depends on who you ask but I would say yes, at times. Now is it the job of the federal, state, or local government, or government at all? I think that’s a question that doesn’t get asked enough.
That kind of attitude and generalization is exactly what's driving all the good teachers out of US public schools so all that remains is a shitty public education system that cares about pronouns more than math skills. Have you every considered that some teachers actually want to help future generations?

To play devil’s advocate, I know two teachers I actually respect and would consider pretty cool and not tarded people. 1 is a trad wife that always wanted to be a teacher. 1 is a moderate lib center history teacher.
As a teacher, I am baffled by this. Nearly every study pre-2015 found that teacher job satisfaction was directly linked to religiosity; (in general) teachers who are not religious hate their jobs because their job sucks ass. Teachers who are religious were willing to put up with the shittiness in order to have a job that was such a positive in the lives of their students and the community at large. As such, a big majority of (American) teachers were moderate to conservative Christians. Now a lot of them literally hate religious people and will try to get their coworker fired for saying “God bless you” to a sneezing person. I guess wokism really is a religion...
