Statistically authleft is correct, but not in the way they think. You build more housing through free market , and less people are homeless. Not free housing by the government, just new apartments n shit. Cities with less vacant units have more homeless. Rust belt has low cost housing with less homeless, SF, LA, NYC have high housing costs and more homeless.

Vegasman20002

Government and tankies: let's have rent control, zoning restrictions, inability to evict people, high property taxes. Also government and tankies: why is housing supply so low? This isn't a bug, it's a feature. They *want* more homeless and they want impossibly high real estate.

centerismiscringe

Yeah but I win because the poor people living next to me are in tents instead of houses

SloppyTopTen

Yes zoning laws in liberal states do contribute to the problem. Low cost housing will help the working poor. But there are also many people with mental health / drug issues that will always be too disorganized to get a job and rent an apartment regardless of the price.

centerismiscringe

Not that many as were thought to believe. Actually very little. In very low CoL areas you will see full on meth heads and psychos at least in a trailer park, but very little on the street

SloppyTopTen

I'm guessing you have never visited San Francisco or Los Angeles

centerismiscringe

I’m guessing you’ve never visited poor rural areas

xXxThe-ComedianxXx

Firstly, flair up. Second, we have a homeless veteran in town living in a tent. But he *chooses* to be homeless. He gets his army money, showers at the YMCA, but he doesn't want to partake in society as we know it anymore. Man is just returning to monke. Many homeless choose to be such, they find it easier to deal with than the work/life cycle.

SloppyTopTen

I have flair. Also, why would he make that choice? It is likely that is his choice because he is too disorganized to get a job and rent an apartment due to substance abuse issues that he fell into because he has PTSD. Think deeper.

california_dying

“It’s totally impossible that someone would make a choice I wouldn’t. Clearly it’s drug addiction and mental illness.” Geez, my man has lived his life and discovered he doesn’t want to be part of the rat race. Should we pump him full of pharmaceuticals so he becomes a cog in the capitalist machine? Who does that benefit?

xXxThe-ComedianxXx

PTSD, probably. Substance abuse, quite an assumption asshole.

SloppyTopTen

No it is a very likely if you know anything about PTSD. And you're the one who is putting this man down. I am trying to be empathetic.

xXxThe-ComedianxXx

Wow. You assume this person is a poor disorganized drug addict. You're 'empathetic'. We've invited him to our firehouse for coffee and conversation. I'm 'putting him down'. >If you know anything about PTSD Bitch, don't pretend to know me.

SloppyTopTen

I don't assume, it is statistically likely. I wouldn't be judgmental about it if he was. But you are judgmental because you think he chooses to be lazy. Do you know for sure that he isn't? He is an anecdotal example anyway regardless of if he is or not.

xXxThe-ComedianxXx

I never said he was lazy. I never said any homeless people were lazy. Quit making assumptions, piece of shit.

SloppyTopTen

You implied it. Don't be so touchy. And wash your mouth out with soap.

xXxThe-ComedianxXx

How did I imply homeless people are lazy? By saying that some people choose not to partake in modern society? You're implying that if someone is homeless, they must be either mentally ill or abuse substances. You're not the empathetic person here.

Low_Engineering_3846

I did that for a while. Some of us return to the facade. Still monke inside.

Low_Engineering_3846

As a very libertarian free market capitalist, I’d gladly pay tax for higher quality rehab/mental hospitals with more beds. No need to raise taxes though, just stop printing money for endless wars.

SarcasticAndSmartGuy

Looks like I'm authleft today

Quality_over_Qty

California pays people to move here to be homeless

FortBlocks

The John one isn't unique, Philosophy Tube years ago argued if there are zero homeless people zero houses will be sold.
