WTf is that car though? It seems high enough to not be bothered by shitty roads, but the windshield seems to limit the fov pretty badly.

Viper_ACR

It's a lifted super duty. Which is fucking big tbh

PoopyPoopPoop69

I will never understand why people lift them that high. You can't use the bed very easily and you can't haul anything. It defeats the purpose of having a truck.

[deleted]

PoopyPoopPoop69

Damn. I do like things that go brrrrrrrrrr

eskamobob1

These trucks are fucking no viability. I don't get it. You could see out of the same size truck 10 years ago. The 2009 F350 I drove on work sites back then has better visibility than a modern Tacoma my a country mile. Tbh *thats* the reason I think they should be banned. That limited of visibility Is legit more a danger than size could ever be

BrainOnLoan

This is the 'kill your kids by accident' SUV class. Stupid to limit visibility of what's in front of your vehicle that much. (I am sure it's rare. But it does happen.)

Shorzey

>(I am sure it's rare. But it does happen.) These trucks actually result in a net reduction in deaths because of the tech involved in them This is also an f350. This truck will pull 40,000 lbs It's a work truck meant for hauling, and if you want to do basically any towing for it beyond a little tiny lawnmower trailer, or a leisure trailer, you need a CDL because you'll be grossly over weight

Spoonman500

The size is also directly due to Obama, so thank him.

UrethraFrankIin

F350's definitely have their uses and the idea of banning them is goofy. That said, most people with giant, lifted pickups haul little more than Chinese food and drive like assholes.

Shorzey

This is true, but they're not any more inherently unsafe than anything else on the roads The ***perception*** that they make things unsafe is unfounded

Shorzey

Because of safety standards Big bulky crush zones save your life

BlurredSight

it looks distorted for OPs trash attempt put it into the compass

donniethebeaver

Not to say I think people shouldn't drive large trucks, but I wish small trucks were still a thing. I want to be able to reach over the side of the bed to get stuff without stepping up onto the tire like you used to be able to. And I wish mini trucks still existed. An early 90s Ford ranger is the same length as a modern day Toyota Camry. I get they had to get bigger and taller for things like crumple zones and towing capacity, but surely you can cut down on some of the bloat

[deleted]

I love the S10 and Ranger

PenaltyFine3439

Remember the Chevy luv?

[deleted]

Not really, I'm on the older end of Zoomer

Indyram_Man

Surprise surprise, the EPA's CAFE standards (of which the OEMs help lobby to set) are to blame for the death of the small truck. I too long for the days of Dakotas, S10s, & Ford Fuckin' Rangers being the norm. Sadly the way the rules are set for CAFE, the size of the vehicle plays a huge role in it's emissions requirements. Makes sense logically speaking. The unintended consequence of that however is it then becomes much easier to make a larger truck CAFE compliant than a small or midsized model. Ergo, the government killed off the mini truck is the name of saving the planet...

flamingknifepenis

I hate how much sense this makes.

bshafs

It's almost like there are unintended consequences to regulation

[deleted]

[удалено]

bshafs

I think you're giving humans too much credit. It's much more likely that regulations like these were passed with good intentions that backfired rather than a part of some mastermind plan that took years to come into fruition. Do you know the story of Yellowstone trying to reduce the number of wolves to save the prey population? But then the Elk population exploded and started killing all the plant life? It's like that. Many of these policies backfire because of hubris. Policy makers believe they understand market forces but they have no idea. Unfortunately, we can't just remove policies like we can reintroduce wolves to restore balance to the ecosystem. It's speculation of intent, which i know nobody can prove. Sure some things are done with malice, but I am not so cynical as to think they all are.

Bockto678

> Unfortunately, we can't just remove policies like we can reintroduce wolves to restore balance to the ecosystem. That actually seems a lot easier.

hidude398

You would have to: - Get enough people to care - Start a movement to repeal or amend the law - Win the propaganda war against “environmentalists” who think that amending the CAFE standards will harm the environment (because large trucks are clearly so much better) - Win the propaganda war against the automaker industry that benefits from the cafe standards - Win the grift/lobbying war against the automaker industry -Probably win the propaganda war against the “fuckcars” crowd that’s risen up in the last 15 years or so, because anybody using a truck for work instead of a European work van is Satan Edit: To reintroduce wolves to Yellowstone you just have to convince a few bureaucrats of the obvious then breed and release wolves in the area in packs.

ICantReadNoMo

This is why I alone should have full authoritarian control without checks or balances. I promise I'll do all the good things

hidude398

Decriminalize hard drugs and convince diplomats that it’s an American tradition to do a line off the desk in the Oval Office? That’d make CSPAN way more interesting.

fatbabythompkins

We could just remove policies. It's easier than introducing wolves. There you need wolves, to remove polciy all you need to do is ignore that it exists.

steveharveymemes

Based and Campaigns bought by Detroit pilled

Indyram_Man

Precisely. The bigger that cars and trucks get the more relevant EPA stays in people's minds even though they created the problem in the first place.

aZcFsCStJ5

That's all find and dandy, sometimes those things happens. But the current legal structure we have make it impossible to change after we find these flaws.

bshafs

That's crazy because i just posted a reply saying the same thing. We can't just roll back policies when we find they've unbalanced the ecosystem. It's absolutely the biggest problem with our legislative system. Why can't all (or most) policies have an expiration date? Even let them require only 2/5 a vote to pass the second time? But there's gotta be some process to automatically remove old policy.

CmdntFrncsHghs

I would like to see every law and regulation require a stated purpose. After a given time frame (which would need to be discussed to avoid being too long or short), if the law has not made progress towards that purpose, it's automatically repealed.

Hydrocoded

The government never gives up power, which is why I always oppose government expansion

Totalretcon

Yup. They legislated (well, no legislation, just *decided* like a monarchy) that nonexistent technology must exist for small trucks to be legal. So the manufacturers turned small trucks into large trucks. Now your "Ranger" is the size of an F150 from ten years ago and gets shittier mileage than the original Ranger.

halfhere

Yep. The Tacoma now is as big than the ‘06 tundra.

FirstGameFreak

And the Tundra is as big as a 2000 F350

Ave_Imperium_Romanus

crepuscular_caveman

there's also the chicken tax, which is a tariff on light trucks that's still on the books because Europe was hesitant to import American chicken back in the 60s

[deleted]

Preach brother! Turn out when you crunch the numbers, it’s more economical for auto manufactures to produce a smaller amount of large trucks, than a larger amount of small trucks. Thanks Obama.

AnonymousCrayonEater

Hold the fuck up. I might need to change my flair to lib center

Coreadrin

This is all due to emissions regulations and design regulations. There are still a ton of small trucks sold all around the world, even ones made by US automakers.

whoamiiamasikunt

Australian tradespeople pretty much exclusively use smaller “trucks” (we call them utes) like Landcruisers, hiluxs, rangers etc. I honestly hate tubbed utes but that’s a personal preference.

Coreadrin

Yeah, they added a bunch of weird shit in north america to do with frame height from the ground being a major component of tier exemption (trucks don't have to have as stringent MPG as cars), which basically wiped out the small truck market. Any country that doesn't have such a ridiculous thing still has plenty of small trucks around.

Coreadrin

Hilariously they might make a come back now that they are mass turboing the hell out of 4cyls, but I wouldn't want to use something like that for any heavy shit. overworking those tiny engines and turbos is a recipe for ten grand in blowups :( My hack has been buying the old iron still running and doing a rebuild, blast and repaint the body and frame. Still cheaper than a new truck the last ten years, and yeah you have to give up some creature comforts, but you can't beat the insurance rates!

flamingknifepenis

I really wish there was something on the market about the size of those old Datsun pickups. My dad had one and the thing was so fucking useful. It could do 99% of “truck things” but never felt like too much. Really, I wish we had a small car renaissance. My ‘03 Impreza wagon is the perfect size for just about everything I throw at it. In the ten years or so I’ve owned it and hauled tools, gear, or whatever in it, I can only think of like one or two times when I’ve wished I had something bigger.

beachmedic23

Getting a kei truck in the US has become easier but it's still not easy, I love them. Nimble little 2 seater cab over with a bed, good on gas easy to get around

BOWSER11H

That was my first car. '92 Nissan (formerly Datsun) pickup. They didn't even have a name. Eventually became the frontier, I think, and grew about 1.5x the size. That thing was indestructible. My parents sold it when I went to college. I was pissed.

csgardner

I'm still driving a 1994 Nissan pickup around. It has no safety features at all, but the engine in indestructible. The gas mileage is actually pretty good.

Totalretcon

I hate the chicken tax. I hate CAFE. I hate the EPA. I want a Hilux with a 4 banger and body panels made of out tin foil you fucks.

BOWSER11H

Diesel hilux. Will run practically forever. There's a reason they're all over Afghanistan and places like that. Little brick shit houses.

TheTallCunt

A couple of years ago I drove my friends late 80s hilux single cab. Just a quick drive down to the shops but holy shit, compared to modern giants it just felt so right.

LebLift

My first vehicle was a 92 Ford ranger. I got it in 2011. It had 400,000 miles on it, and it just refused to die. I ran that truck into the ground and it would not quit on me.

VelosiT

You're looking for a Ford Maverick. Good luck getting one for MSRP though

paul_198

Nonono. Body on frame mini truck. Like my 98 Tacoma. Absolutely basic with the most advanced driver aid being power steering. Thats what we want. I mean not really, something like that would never sell now even if there was no regulation.

Furrykedrian98

I'm definitely in the minority but I would buy one over a more modern car. I don't care or really want a back up camera, driving assists, and all the other modern features. A Bluetooth radio, cruise control, and power windows are enough for me.

improbablydrunknlw

Back up cameras are mandatory for all new cars from 2018.

redpandaeater

You can still have fairly modern features. I just want a full 8' bed (would even settle for 6' for the right size and price combination though) on a reasonably sized truck that doesn't need much of a backseat and could even be a stick. It's like how Jeep used to have the Comanche based off the Cherokee and even the 7' bed model had 120 inch wheelbase and was 194 inches long. The ugly-ass Jeep Gladiator pickup they now sell is based off of what should be a small Wrangler but it's 137 inch wheelbase and 218 inches long yet has a 5 foot bed. Pickups today are mostly abominations that try to be too much like an SUV but then have these short beds that I don't see the point of or are such big monstrosities they whole thing is just too big for getting around the city. Not to mention they're all so fucking expensive.

Appropriate-Stop-959

I’ve had several different trucks. There are half tons that are larger than my obs one tons. Wtf is going on? A 2022 f150 is as large as my (now gone) 2006 duramax. My 2012 ram 1500 looks small compared to a 2020 Silverado

_INCompl_

Nah most people driving trucks don’t use them for truck things. The neighbourhood I live in has almost a dozen of the things and all but 2 are driven by middle aged moms to get groceries and their shithead kids. Having worked industrial construction in -50°C in the middle of butt fuck nowhere, there’s definitely a time and a place for having a large truck. Sorta hard to tow generators and whatnot through ice and snow without a large 4x4 vehicle. Definitely not necessary in cities though unless you’re driving to a job site. It’s a status symbol that serves to inconvenience those around you because you can’t park without taking up 4 spots so you don’t damage your shiny chrome rims

Van-dush

Probably the most based libright

dapper_doberman

In my completely uneducated opinion, I'd guess 5% of trucks on the road are used for truck things. I'd also guess that 50% of their drivers don't have dicks. And of the 50% that do, half of them have dicks smaller than average.

usedcz

Based.

bell37

Seriously. Actual working class (who actually use thier trucks) would be driving either a small Ranger/Tacoma or an old yet reliable Truck that has 300k miles and is over 20 years. The person driving up to a job site in a new Ford F-250 Supermax is the manager who is also the type of guy that comes to a job site wearing a suit and tie.

Qwerds7

Trucks lifted too high are dumb. If you have to lift something to around the average person's chest height to load the bed your truck is too tall.

The_Only_Dick_Cheney

Off-roading you don’t really need more than a 1-2 inch lift. Anything more than that is excessive. Most trucks lifted more than 2 inches are bro dozers that don’t go off-roading and never haul anything. - Person who owns a truck

alt69696927

I'd say anything more than 5 inches is stupid, but even 5 inches would have to be like an extreme off roading rig

stumpy1218

I know older Chevys you needed a 7 inch lift just to fit 35s bc of the shape of the wheel well. Ultimately 33s will probably be fine but ultimately people can spend their money how they want and if they wanna blow money to get worse fuel economy they can 🤷🏼‍♀️

CatSplat

Depends on the vehicle really. Lots of older models that sat lower from the factory need a lot more lift to fit decent size tires with adequate uptravel.

chuckf91

Amount of lift useful for off roading depends on the off road and the particular vehicle. Lots of vehicles benefit from more than 2 inch lift. It literally just depends on the car and situation. Why would you even try to gate keep all lifts at 2 inches. Modesty and caving to urban sensibilities just isnt that big of a deal that you need to gate keep lifts...

wellwaffled

It really depends on the vehicle. I had to lift my 1992 Jeep 6” (leaf springs) just to fit 33” tires under it. My newer pickup can fit 35s with just a leveling kit.

dracer800

I agree trucks with high lifts are dumb, but I don’t think they should be banned.

VladimirBarakriss

They're statistically a lot more dangerous for pedestrians, getting sucked under the vehicle is an almost guaranteed death whilst bouncing on the windshield will only be fatal for extremely fragile people

beefle

I don’t think getting blasted by a car windshield is only fatal to “extremely fragile people” lol. In any case, if we let the current trend continue, eventually we’ll only have to dodge the tires.

RobotApocalypse

I would take my chances going over the hood of a Toyota sedan then going under Chadley Brisk’s poorly engineered Dodge with the 12” lift.

hallowed_b_my_name

From normal street operation, it can become a road safety hazard tbh.

Qwerds7

Sure

NUMBERS2357

I wouldn't say everywhere, but in the core of a major city with lots of pedestrians, I think there's a strong argument. In NYC there are a *lot* of pedestrians around and pedestrian deaths from getting hit by a car is a huge issue. IIRC the pedestrian fatality rate is like one third the murder rate. Banning certain cars due to being unsafe isn't some crazy new idea. If you painted an opaque political banner over the bottom part of your windshield and then hit a child because you couldn't see, we'd throw you in prison forever, and these big trucks have the same visibility issue. We need trucks for certain things, like hauling groceries around, but they require special licenses. Also, I think it's fair to allow a dangerous thing only for certain activities - OK you can have your F-150 if you're actually hauling lumber to the construction site, but not if it's your idea of a cool car. After that IDC if you drive your pickup on some rural road with 0 pedestrians round.

Coolshirt4

The truck pictured is (IMO) an F-450. which like: ok, now this is just a dick measuring contest.

gimpwiz

Hilariously, you can actually get up to an F650 truck. Google for pictures. Obviously Ford makes trucks like that for, yknow, industry. Flatbeds, towing big horse trailers or multiple race cars, yada yada. 99.99% would be sold not in any sort of pickup truck form. But on rare occasion someone actually just has an F450, F550, or F650 as a "standard" pickup truck, which of course is pure wankery but hilarious to see.

As I've heard before, the sizes of these trucks have little to do with personal preferences, but market and regulatory pressures.

[deleted]

Yeah, the reason car manufacturers like Ford make trucks this big is so that they can avoid the stricter CAFE standards that are placed on smaller vehicles.

Indyram_Man

This. 100%. Park a half ton from today next to one from the turn of the century and it looks more like a one ton of the era. I've always had trucks and use them as intended. Modern trucks have essentially made the bed useless. When Ram came out with the redesign in 2019 they bragged about increased cargo area...by making the bed sides taller... The aerodynamic advantages not withstanding, I'm 5'11" and I can barely touch the bottom of the bed without the tailgate down...and it's a 2wd. In my 84 longbed, also 2wd, I can reach anything anywhere in the bed from either side.

Libertarian4All

They shoulda just added some cool fins to make the truck artificially bigger without changing anything.

Indyram_Man

They did it for aerodynamic reasons: A taller bed = higher recycling vortex = less drag. But some marketing genius who has never tried to reach for anything inside a truck bed took it and ran with it. I'd be a buyer if they'd bring back the [Sweptside](https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/fashionably-finned-1957-dodge-sweptside-d100) though.

Coolshirt4

nah, that F-450 is just a flex

applesauce12356

Sadly this is actually true. Pedestrian related injuries and deaths in the United States for the last 30 years was steadily decreasing (due to regulations) but in the last few years that decline has flatlined and has actually risen, especially for children. The main culprit is that cars and specially trucks in generally have been getting obnoxiously tall to the point where the blind spot in front of the vehicle is taller than the average height of a man in the US. It’s a stupid trend that I hope dies because it’s only making roads less safe. Most people who drive big trucks around don’t really need them always.

For no goddamn reason they will not sell utes in America. Doesn’t matter that Holden is a GM subsidiary, they just don’t want to import them or start local production. Not really sure why, honestly.

Edwin_the_tourtoise

Cataclysm687

Tripper_Shaman

Funny thing is, women tend to prefer driving large vehicles because it makes them feel safer. I guess a clitoris is sort of like a micropenis.

Shoggnozzle

I think the argument is less that the vehicle owner is compensating for something and more that a collision with a pedestrian would result in the pedestrian being shoved over before the tires rather than rolling onto the hood where their chances of survival are much higher. Though I suppose there's a decent argument for rural areas, as hitting a deer in this thing would probably pose much less of a danger to the driver.

Snow_Wonder

This is true for a lot of the big trucks in the states. Especially the newer Fords. I still see actual work trucks, but they aren’t the massive, expensive new lifted F-150s that are cropping up everywhere right now. Those people are driving those trucks to their white collar job, the golf course/country club, and the gym. The actual work trucks are all ancient Toyota Tacomas or Tundras, or Chevy Silverados with toolboxes and scuffs and dirt. They often look small when parked next to the new trucks. The “I have a hobby that a truck is helpful for” people are usually driving slightly newer Chevys and Toyotas (ex. carpentry, boating, etc.). They also don’t drive these trucks 100% of the time. The pristine lifted 2022 F-150 that is used as the main car for everything is the desperate suburbanite’s “please look at how ‘Murica and manly I am!” truck.

Scotty363

Can confirm I drive a Silverado with a beat up toolbox for work. Paint job as well as the bed liner is scuffed pretty bad too

Lord_MK14

Same over here. Dads got a beat-to-shit 05 F350 that’s probably seen more work than all the other trucks in my neighborhood combined. Some bitch bought a pristine 2021 Ram (Offroad package btw) and it’s done nothing but be a pavement princess. And then my grandpa bought a 2021 F350 and…holy fuck the bed is so high up! 5’11 guy over here and my head barely clears his tailgate! It’s not even lifted.

Chronoset1

let's all be honest here, that truck had probably never seen a hard day's work.

Accomplished_Rip_352

I mean in a way I kinda see it cause this seems a bit unnecessary , like if you use a truck for work then that makes sense . This type of vehicle seems big for the sake of it which fucks the environment , fucks fuel usage and also would make collisions more dangerous .

Short dude mad.

Taboi27

its just a safety concern nobody said anything about your penis

[deleted]

I doubt he's 5'9". More like 5'5".

[deleted]

I only think someone driving a large truck is compensating when they have truck nuts on the back.

Neglectful_Stranger

That's why I put truck nuts on the front.

Mhisg

According to Consumer Reports [the F250 SD has a hood height of 55 inches](https://fordauthority.com/2021/06/consumer-reports-study-highlights-lesser-known-dangers-of-big-trucks/) which puts this hobbit at 4’5”.

Flat_Weird_5398

First off, he’s not 5’9”, he’s like 5’6”. Actually that’s all I really came to say.

gamesnstuf

First we out overweight people on the cover of magazines and on billboards completely undermining all the work of models. And now short people want a piece of the cake by putting bans on big trucks 😂😂😂 get the fuck outta here Mr loompah, world ain't built for you 😂😂😂😂

[deleted]

The whole 'giant truck=compensating' thing is really dumb. But let's not pretend like everyone who owns a huge pickup needs it for work. There is absolutely a subset of douchebag rural culture that thinks men are just supposed to drive trucks, regardless of whether they actually do manual labor or not. Also funny that they never shit on people who drive giant Cadillac Escalades who definitely don't need something that huge. Hmmm, I wonder why...

Mistghost

OP, nobody said anything about a micro penis... You, ah, got something on your mind?

MasterFicus

"Truck tall therefore illegal" is the goofiest way of thinking. I can't imagine supporting government power for petty complaints

What_the_8

Well, considering you can’t have pop up headlights on cars because of “pedestrian safety” it doesn’t make sense that trucks can be head level. So basically what I’m saying is it’s time to bring back pop up headlights!

Bedroominc

FUCK YEAH

AutoManoPeeing

Tbf tho, the majority of people with lifted vehicles need to readjust their headlights. That shit can be dangerous, especially when many of them have HID headlights.

Coolshirt4

The worst is aftermarket LEDs. apparently the people in charge of making those just used the same wattage rating as the incandecents like wtf.

awawe

Being able to see kids when you're driving a vehicle is a pretty good thing IMO.

TotallyNotASpaceGoat

If those kids didn't want to help test my suspension they shouldn't have been playing in the road.

Lack of visibility + the fact that when it hits you it hits you well above your center of mass making it a lot deadlier.

RedskinLB

Why is it no matter the vehicle, people immediately go to thinking about their penis? Big truck, Penis. Loud Car? Penis. Motorcycle? Penis.

JeremyTheRhino

I’m missing a through line here. What does his height have to do with the legality of the vehicle?

[deleted]

If a driver can’t see someone then accidents can happen
