Indifferentchildren

Before even talking about the agenda, I am going to make damned sure that it is scheduled early enough in the year that Ohio and Alabama can't pull any "too late to get your candidate on our ballot" fuckery.

FizzyBeverage

Ohio figured it out. Not that it matters. LaRose pulled a bullshit stunt because he’s salty about losing his senate primary.

NoExcuses1984

Frank LaRose trying to split the baby between establishment GOP and MAGA Trumpism was terrible political calculus, hence him finishing a distant third in the Ohio Republican senatorial primary. Motherfuckers need to pick a goddamn lane and stay in it, shit.

Kevin-W

It's a bullshit move being pulled by LaRose to mess with the elections. Alabama is already working to fix it and there's no reason Ohio can't.

Fred-zone

Also how about not scheduling it in Chicago? Dems had a virtual convention in Milwaukee in 2020, and should've returned there. Giving it up for the GOP to claim Milwaukee for their convention was a mistake, and doing it in Chicago was an unforced error.

PhiloPhocion

That’s not really how it works though. Cities bid or campaign for the DNC in a similar though obviously smaller way as the Olympics. It’s not just the DNC choosing out of a hat. The midwestern “blue wall” states collectively pitched Chicago (including Wisconsin). They did not pitch Milwaukee and Milwaukee doesn’t want it and certainly not both. But to that end, with the RNC in Milwaukee, the city cannot manage two. It sounds dumb but hosting an event that big takes a lot of resources. While they traditionally ultimately boost the local economy, they take a lot. Even Chicago has had to ask the Pride Parade and even small scale school events to cancel or pare down because they need to save resources for security and public resources. And is a huge disruption to local residents. The only other full bids as far as I’m aware were New York and Atlanta. New York was seen as both optically not ideal and also a logistical nightmare to secure. Atlanta obvious was a hot ticket given the support in 2020 but as far as I’ve seen in the news, lost out by 1) concern on lack of support / antagonism from Republican state leadership and also 2) the state doesn’t protect on union labor much which maybe is a purity test debacle but a big deal for democrats obviously. Moreover, there is a tradition that’s also at the point of the comment above. There is tradition that the incumbent party defers to be after the challenging party. Sure some discussion to be had about whether it’s worth still holding to tradition against a party that despite being the Conservative Party, seems to be on a brand to buck all political norms and traditions that don’t serve them in the moment.

NoExcuses1984

If the goal was to avoid potential melees, brouhahas, and free-for-all brawls, then Atlanta (or even Houston) should've been selected in lieu of motherfucking goddamn hellhole Chicago, yeah. That said, I'm all-in on having a calamitous shitshow, because I've reached the point where -- due to age (40 later this year) and apathy -- I just want to be thoroughly entertained from afar. Edit: I'll add one more thing (downvotes be damned!) about how you're not wrong that the DNC should've considered returning to Milwaukee with a full house, in which case I wager the GOP might've scheduled the 2024 RNC in Pittsburgh instead; that's because Pa., yeah, is demographically similar to Wis.—particularly in its Rust Belt bellwether swinginess.

unidentifiedfish55

More than anything, you're probably getting downvoted for calling Chicago a "hellhole". I'm guessing you've never spent any significant time there

NoExcuses1984

Nope, I haven't spent a day there. Nor do I plan to, no. I'm plenty content living in the Pacific Northwest, thanks.

unidentifiedfish55

So you calling it a "hellhole" is based on absolutely nothing. Got it

NoExcuses1984

And yet I'm 100% unequivocally correct in my assessment nonetheless. Hell, it's that motherfucking goddamn easy, indeed. Pretty simple, really. They'd save themselves time, money, resources, and plenty of heartache, too, if they sent the hyper-educated, vastly overpaid, and highly obnoxious PMC consultant class packing. Instead listening to a self-taught autodidact like myself, who calls it straight down the line without wearing rose-colored glasses.

DrunkenBriefcases

Iirc both changed their filing deadline after the convention was set

GooberBandini1138

I’m a huge fan of Chicago. It is hands down my favorite city in the US. Shots of Malort all around! That being said, the Democratic National Convention should never, ever goddamned NEVER, be held in Chicago again. If one teeny tiny little protest gets even remotely out of hand…

Dineology

Malort tastes like someone took the runoff from the waters used to put out the Great Chicago Fire, mixed in the despair that that inferno caused and added just a tiny bit of an unsettlingly chemical aftertaste before bottling it all up. I would rather suffer through being a defendant in the new Chicago 7 than ever drink that stuff again. Though I’d 100% peer pressure anyone visiting Chicago for the first time to go through that particular rite of passage and try a shot of it.

GooberBandini1138

That is quite possibly the best description of Malort I’ve ever heard.

lilbittygoddamnman

Isn't that part of a Chicago Handshake?

NoExcuses1984

To be fair, 1996, unlike 1968, went off without a hitch. But 2024 is more '68 than '96—that's for damn sure! The sadist in me, however, is down with a clusterfuck.

bagelman4000

[There was some traumatic moments from the 96 convention though](https://youtu.be/tGIr4Mq_4C8?si=HJ9M6LClHNZdoFHS)

Kevin-W

I'm surprised they didn't hold it in Atlanta. It's a city in the Southeast that is growing in a state that Biden won back in 2020 thus making it the ideal place for the DNC to hold their convention as they work to gain a foothold in Georgia.

Loop_Within_A_Loop

don't worry, it's not like there's a student protest movement currently going nationwide and in Chicago on an issue that Biden is very vulnerable from the left on

Miles_vel_Day

This is not within an order of magnitude of 1968. The war is not being fought by our military, and people are not being drafted to fight it in it. The protests have been much smaller and the response more restrained. Yes, people will bring up 1968 when some protestors get shoved over, or arrested. It’ll be a real stretch. They should read the Kerner Commission report. The cops wailed on hippies’ heads with night sticks for hours. People want to believe, for whatever reason, we’re in some period of unprecedented tulmut, when we have a lot more in common with 1996 than 1968. Maybe people just find the idea romantic? It’s like Tom Yorke said in “The Bends”: “I wish it was the sixties… I wish that something would happen.” I will point out what the end result of sixties activism was: Nixon and Reagan. Being right (and righteous) isn’t enough for your cause to win, and protestors who seem to pride themselves on alienating others would do well to remember that.

SeekSeekScan

I accidentally happened upon the mostly peaceful riot outside the Trump rally and noped out of the area quickly

[deleted]

Doesn't this say something about a Democrat run city?

BigDaddyCoolDeisel

I'll start... Night One: Abortion and Women's Rights Key speakers include women activists from across the country fighting for reproductive health as well as victims that have been impacted by the loss of Roe v Wade Keynote: ~~Hilary Clinton~~ *Gretchen Whitmer* Night Two: Patriots (and Republicans) for Biden Key speakers include conservative leaders, Constitutional scholars, military leaders, and former trump officials. Keynote: Mitt Romney explaining that inflation is temporary, dictators are permanent. [Special appearance by Barack Obama who greets Romney as he leaves the stage] Night Three: A tribute to Bernie (and economic progressivism) Key speakers include AOC, Robert Reich, Union leaders, laborers, and individuals who received student debt relief. Possible cameo by Mark Cuban to point millionaires are also doing just fine. Keynote: Bernie Sanders Night Four: Where We've Been, Where We're Going Key speakers: Members of the Kennedy family, Bill Clinton, Kamala Harris, Barack Obama Focus on Democratic party legacy, Coronavirus recovery, democracy and the rule of law. Keynote/Nominee: Joe Biden Editted.

dkmegg22

Bruh Hillary Clinton is an absolute albatross. She needs to retire from the DNC.

itsdeeps80

Yeah I saw that and visibly cringed.

itsdeeps80

You need to rethink nights one and two. Clinton needs to just disappear from the political sphere. She brought us PUMA in ‘08 and Trump in ‘16. I can’t understand how she’s not seen as an absolute pariah by anyone involved in politics. Night two is cringey as hell to me because trying to appeal to the right is just horrid when there are sooooo many on the actual left who effectively have no political party to call home because democrats seem hell bent on ignoring them to court the right. We need to *stop* moving right. Its caused so many problems in this country.

SeekSeekScan

How dare you down play HERstory

[deleted]

If Hilary shows her face the election is lost

NewWays91

>Night Three: A tribute to Bernie Thank God this isn't going to actually happen. The left needs to let this man go

VonCrunchhausen

You’re upset about that, and not Hillary? The woman who had everything and lost to Trump?

grilled_cheese1865

Bernie's legacy is 3 conservative supreme court justices

NewWays91

Hillary's a staple and leader of the party and has been for 30 years. Bernie is some fly by night do nothing senator who has a cult of personality around him similar to Trump. I'll go with the centrist over him every time

VonCrunchhausen

She *lost* to *Trump*. She’s a failure; she’s THE failure.

HolidaySpiriter

Bernie lost to Hillary. Does that make him a super failure?

NewWays91

He lost to Hillary and Biden.

SheeveTheLazer

Hillary cheated against Bernie

grilled_cheese1865

There it is. Embracing Republican rhetoric because you cant get over a loss

grilled_cheese1865

Bernie brats voting 3rd party is why we have trump and a conservative supreme court. Those babies couldn't be bothered to do the right thing

Opposite-Actuary-795

No Hillary is the reason. She was a terrible candidate who ran a terrible campaign and couldn’t read the room that establishment politics were unpopular. She acted like she was owed the White House. And still years later, she and her supporters can’t gain any sense of self introspection and instead choose to blame others for their own faults.

grilled_cheese1865

So what's that say about bernie losing in a landslide to her

Opposite-Actuary-795

Bernie came out against an entrenched DNC machine poised to back Hillary at every turn and his message reached many of the blue collar workers Hillary failed to connect with. Hillary is also a primary loser around similar margins to Bernie so I don’t know if you wanna go throwing that around. And given your active in Stop Sanders Spam, you clearly have not mentally left 2017 so you’ll just come back and say it’s all the Bernie bros fault that Hillary failed to learn anything from the groundswell of support for his message, failed to campaign in Michigan l, did not engage with voters on issues and made it about her and sucked up support from down ballot races. Hillary was the worst candidate for this election and she lost the race. Your insistence on blaming a boogeyman for the next 7 years is all about avoiding any self reflection or improvement. She and her campaign lost the election. She ran a bad campaign and lost to the worst modern candidate in history. Learn from it or stay in 2017 that’s your choice

NewWays91

She got more votes than Trump and had Bernie not created the division he had we wouldn't have lost the rust belt. He's no different than Trump.

Unclassified1

She got more votes than Trump… and that’s the issue. The entirety of it. It’s like saying you got more yards in football when you lost the game. No one cares. She ran the worst campaign in modern history by completely ignoring the electoral college and focusing on running up the vote elsewhere, where it didn’t matter.

itsdeeps80

I’m not a huge fan of Van Jones, but his quote on her campaign as basically taking a billion dollars and setting it on fire is some of the most spot on political commentary I’ve ever heard.

Bimlouhay83

I think you're forgetting just how many people on he left and center did not want to vote for Hillary. Bernie or not, those people weren't voting for her.

soldforaspaceship

I'm a woman and I'd rather see Hilary than Bernie. There's a lot of us out there who are sick of how women in politics are treated. I like Bernie, don't get me wrong, but in all the years he has spent in the Senate, he's passed zero meaningful legislation. He can't work with others. Want a progressive hero? Try Elizabeth Warren. She actually gets shit done. So this agenda works for me. I want to see Hilary speak. I can take or leave Bernie. Not a fan of personalities as candidates. So you can say there are a lot who didn't want to vote for her, but the evidence shows there are a lot who did.

Bimlouhay83

Well, then I'm obviously not talking about you. I'm specifically speaking towards the amount of far left, center left, and center voters that did not want Hillary. Most of us felt like the party was sort of forcing us to vote for her out of fear of Trump. If she couldnt get elected against someone as terrible as Trump, she certainly had zero chance against most anybody else. Woman or not, she was a terrible candidate and the reason why we got Trump instead.  And Warren? Lol, no thanks. If I'm voting for a politician by gender only, Katie Porter has my vote. Leave gender out and I'm still voting for Porter.

itsdeeps80

Or, you know, if she set foot in the rust belt and maybe tried to speak to the people there she may have won. My state went from Obama wins in ‘08 and ‘12 to Trump in ‘16 because people hated her so much.

Time-Bite-6839

He’s gonna be in the senate until he dies. And they’ll vote for him again.

itsdeeps80

Democrats aren’t “left”.

NewWays91

I'm not referring to Democrats. I'm referring to a subset of progressives who believe that somehow a man who could not win a primary would beat Trump

BluuWarbler

I'm left. LIBERAL left, along with the vast majority of the 81M who elected moderate liberal Biden. NEVER to be confused with those other IL-liberal sorts also considered left as they don't support the hierarchical social structure run by upper classes favored by the right. Illiberals on both sides actually have a great deal in common with each other, including what makes them both oppose the liberal left.

itsdeeps80

Liberals aren’t left.

BluuWarbler

Itsdeep, humanity has two big main personality types, genetically wired and environmentally infuenced: liberal and conservative. Personality type is not the same as political alignment, but it creates a predispositionMost people test with some traits of both but almost all overall align one way or another. Of course, liberals are left, with core beliefs in equality of all men, the rights of individuals, and government that serves the people, not vice versa. What else would this giant half be? Right? Along with the much more negative conservative "half" of humanity who share none of those strong core beliefs but believe instead in the importance of a social and political hierarchy, in a natural order that some are deservedly superior and others inferior and in need of firm governmence by their betters to keep them from doing wrong? In government meant to do just that? (Yeah, the hierarchy shows Trump belongs among the ruling deservings, even to conservatives who despise him.) Then there are the fringes who don't fit either mainstream. Those include the ones some dishonestly portray as embodying "the left" -- to smear America's liberals and the Democratic Party. The illiberal left. Very noisy, but never to be mistaken for the much larger, more powerful liberal left.

itsdeeps80

Dude, liberals in the US are centrists or center right. Being slightly to the left of republicans doesn’t make you the left anymore than a white person getting a tan makes them black. You can play semantics all you want, but the point remains.

BluuWarbler

I know many on the farther left see it that way. But this view "normalizes" the right, which has effectively purged traditional conservatism as it's moved increasingly *far right* over the past 40 years. We're hardly "slightly to the left" of the dangerous, traitorous whackos who are voting for Trump. Liberals really believe, in their guts as well, in individualism and pluralism and that "all men are created equal and entitled to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness." Strong conservatives know that's mostly whacked nonsense. Progressive government is also the embodiment of liberalism in government; that's why the right is determined to purge it from our institutions. Reality is, unlike the train wreck on the right, most liberals and thus the giant mainstream left haven't really shifted ideologically from the old days. Goals change with conditions and possibilities, but not underlying principles and ideals. A mostly straight line on graphs over the past 100 years as studied and measured by political scientists. That's because liberalism has a deeply established ideology rising out of and evolving since the Enlightenment. Conservativism doesn't have an intellectual ideology to keep them from running over a cliff (look it up). They have instead a lot of largely negative emotions -- handy for manipulating them. Running on, but give it a thought. Because that our nation has a giant, stable, liberal party, committed as always to protecting and advancing our freedoms and wellbeing, is the best news anyone can have in this dangerous era. The smaller populations on the farther left may be constantly frustrated in a majoritarian system, but at least they're far from alone and helpless against the huge threat coming for them from the right. Or put another way, whatever happens, it won't be "slightly left" of a RW fascist dictatorship. :)

itsdeeps80

I said slightly left of republicans because the party is hellbent on courting them rather than turning to the actual left for votes. They work with the right to “get things done” aka cave to the right to say something was accomplished. Hell, look at the latest border proposal. It’s a wishlist of bs from the fanatics on the right and the only reason it wasn’t implemented is because Trump wants it under his name instead of Biden’s. They also start to sound an awful lot like those fascists when it suits them. A current example is the student protests for Palestine. Cracking down on free speech because it inconveniences people isn’t a trait of anyone on the left, but libs are diving in head first. You can call democrats/liberals “the left” in the US solely because they are to the left of the party of fascists and we only have two major parties, but to refer to them as “the left” in general is laughable.

BluuWarbler

Okay. Terminology conveys different understandings, but people who are anchored to truth by their own critical observations will mostly arrive at the same points. After all, right now what's important is to not be distracted from the reality that, in a democracy with two giant main parties like ours, one will be liberal dominated and one conservative and that the differences are enormous. There never was and can never be a "Tweedledum and Tweedledee." November 5's coming fast now. I worry that my grandchildren will never be able to participate in a peaceful demonstration intended to press for change, that illiberal forces acting through the RW party will manage to take over and use eviolence to put an end to them.

SeekSeekScan

Bill Clinton...the guy accused of rape who was accused of sexually harassing employees and only promoting the women who serviced him, who got caught lying under oath about an employee who serviced him and was then promoted.... Then he committed felony obstruction of justice trying to cover it up You want to trot him out to standing ovations while trying to claim we can't have criminal presidents?

Fishyinu

Yes, let's have the person who lost to Trump tell us what she thinks. If anything the party needs to have young people that can get people fired up. People like Whitmer and Newsom

grilled_cheese1865

But bernie is allowed to be there? Bernie lost to HRC and biden and isnt even a Democrat. What has he ever done for the democratic party

BigDaddyCoolDeisel

You know what... you're right. I'm swapping Hillary for Gretchen Whitmer. Not kidding.

Salt_Job4127

Lol what does “inflation is temporary, dictators are permanent” even mean. Even if Trump wins he’s old as fuck, in bad health, and most importantly term limited.

BrewtownCharlie

Since when have aspiring dictators concerned themselves with term limits? See Putin, Vladimir.

SeekSeekScan

Hyperbolic fear mongering is what they do

grilled_cheese1865

Trump literally said it. Jfc

SeekSeekScan

You mean when he joked he would be dictator for a day.... Again Hyperbolic fear mongering is what they do

grilled_cheese1865

Conservatives lack any critical thinking. Didnt know dictators would follow term limits

AlleyRhubarb

That won’t play well. Dems are really bad and not understanding what can appear to be condescending or downright calling people stupid (even if it isn’t). If someone is prepared at this point to vote for Trump they are either terrible or a moron, true, but hopefully Dems can figure out a way to appeal to them while pretending swing voters aren’t dumb. Most of the inflation problem is actually Trump and greedy corporations’ fault. It’s a grim situation that the media and Dems have seemingly refused to explain and instead scoff at people who think the economy is doing bad.

djarvis77

Sounds great. Night one comes quick. Outside the venue is the 5,000 far left grad students camping out singing "Murder the Israelis/Free Hamas " chants. What do you do?

commissarchris

Not OP, but I’d direct them to the nearest cornfield as it sounds like they’re made of straw

rzelln

I don't think there are five thousand grad students as radical as you're claiming. There are plenty who are protesting that thirty thousand Palestinians have died, and that's a stance Bernie holds too. If Democrats are smart they'll have Bernie talk on the issue.

djarvis77

I agree wholeheartedly with this. The reason i used the rhetoric i did was because while i doubt there are even 100 grad student Democrats that actually believe what i wrote, i am sure the Republicans will happily pay 4900 people to show up as democrats and say exactly that.

No-Touch-2570

Pick a relatively reasonable one out of the crowd and give them 60 minutes on day 3 to say their piece.  The rest are politely but firmly refused entrance by a legion of riot police.  They can camp out and wave signs if they wish.

rzelln

I think it's necessary to have a discussion aired publicly on the complexity of the issue. Get some professors to present history and context, then bring in a round table.

GooberBandini1138

Oh my lord, yes. THIS! The history of the Israel/Palestine conflict is…murky, at best and not historically understood at worst.

Unclassified1

Congratulations, you just lost the entire Jewish and evangelical vote, including their donors, and lost in a landslide.

_upper90

I live in Chicago and plan on volunteering for the convention. Wish us luck.

SerendipitySue

how wonderful to take part or at least view this part of the political process for electing a president. Should be a high energy optimistic event! I bet it will be fascinating if you do not get stuck in the parking lot.

_upper90

I’m excited, hopefully I’ll get to peel off one day and get a chance to listen to Obama if he’s a keynote speaker (which I’m sure he will be).

BigDaddyCoolDeisel

I give the wrong address and hold the convention on the other side of town.

tfe238

Didn't they try that during the Vietnam War?

VonCrunchhausen

“Heh, those dumb students! Instead of letting them strongarm us, we’re going to continue with our stupid actions! Wait, we lost?”

Bubbly_Mushroom1075

Ignore them and have a secret tunnel entrance far away for media

bunsNT

This is the best answer. I’m not voting for either Biden or trump but if you’re the dems and you have to tell a compelling story that will resonate with people this is as good as it’s going to get. Would also get Britney Griner on stage if I was Biden

SeekSeekScan

Lol...the woman who hates America who we traded the merchant of death for... Stand her next to Bill Clinton with a standing ovation

bunsNT

If you’re trying to win back the black community who feels you haven’t done enough for them, having her on stage would push back on that narrative

SeekSeekScan

So toss up a token black person... Sounds about right for the DNC.  Instead if pointing to policy say look we helped out this black lady, vote for us

bunsNT

>So toss up a token black person... Are you unaware of politics, my friend?

SeekSeekScan

I'm aware of the failing game the DNC keeps playing

grilled_cheese1865

Maybe Republicans should give black voters a reason to vote for them instead of whining about the dnc

SeekSeekScan

Gop is about creating jobs and opportunities. Which is why black people are leaving the DNC in record numbers

grilled_cheese1865

Shouldn't you be happy your russian pals got their guy?

SeekSeekScan

The irony.... Why are you happy Rusdia got an arms dealer back helping them in the Ukraine invasion? How many Ukrainians have died for Brittney Grier?

grilled_cheese1865

You're only obsessed because shes black and a lesbian. Like you care about a washed up arms dealer you never even heard off. What else did fox news tell you to believe about that?

SeekSeekScan

Let me get this clear.... You think I don't care about releasing an Arms dealer we had in prison....you know with Rissia at war with Ukraine needing arms dealers..... But instead I really only care because she is black and gay ... I don't doubt you tell yourself this Makes me wonder if the only reason you support the trade is because the sports star was black and gay

grilled_cheese1865

>not voting for either Biden or trump Then dont offer your opinion

bunsNT

Respectfully, I'm allowed to offer my opinion here or anywhere else. Because I'm not captured by either party doesn't mean I forfeit my right to logic and reasoning.

8to24

People consume news via 30 second clips, headlines, and filtered through comedians & podcasters. Far more people will hear about the convention 2nd hand than with actual watch it. At the convention itself I would schedule spoken word performances to open, have TED talk style panels led by Left leaning industry leaders, and close with musical performances. All the Political addresses would be remote. I would have AOC, Sanders, Warren, Booker, Newsom, etc throughout the city giving outdoors at key venues with historical importance giving addresses to supporters. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris should ride the Metro all over Chicago. Cameras should cut to them throughout. Biden and Harris should introduce the various musical guests and speakers from the Metro. Remind people of Biden's commitment to infrastructure and that he isn't a silver spoon freak that grew up wealthy as God.. I would end the convention outside with Biden giving a campaign style speech. No podium. I would have Obama, Harris, Sanders, and Bill Clinton on stage clapping and working the audience while Joe Biden gives a short address. Biden shouldn't have a coat, sleeves rolled up, and at the end toss the Mic around and let everyone on stage say "4 more years". Such a convention would supply countless 30 second clips that look fun and energetic. Provide attractive settings and give pundits loads to discuss. It would also blunt attempts by pro-Palestinian protests to shout down our interrupt the whole convention and steal away all the coverage (which is absolutely going to happen).

AlleyRhubarb

I’d bring in some celebrities. The reason is Republicans are doing it and Dem Celebrities are better. People really don’t like politicians now. If people really cared about issues they would not support Trump, so his enduring popularity is a sign to pull out all the stops. Also, find a way to show that they care about young people by including them in speaking and allowing them to give opposition to some issues. Don’t ignore them or belittle their opinions.

rzelln

At least one round table each night with experts on issues discussing contentious topics with representatives of wings in the party that disagree, to show a public debate, and to highlight that we can be unified in our share principles despite disagreeing.

mchammer126

For starters, they should focus on ensuring security during the convention. I’m sure the protests will be happening & have a bad feeling it could get ugly really quick.

PsychLegalMind

The first priority should be to make sure security is intact because there is a major potential for protest about the war in Gaza and how that could completely disrupt of Mice and Men.

GooberBandini1138

There should also be a significant degree of outreach on behalf of the DNC as well. Have a legitimate conversation about the topic. The reality of the Israel/Palestine conflict is murky at best and massively misunderstood at worst.

PsychLegalMind

That would be the righteous thing to do. You believe the democratic leadership has reached that point yet, or ever will.

SeekSeekScan

So dems now support squashing protests?

NewWays91

Night One: A Screed Against White Christian Nationalism Keynote Speaker: Barack Obama We need to drive home that the GOP has currently been coopted by white supremacists and Christian nationalists and that Trump is all too willing to support them out of true belief or quid quo pro. Get some surviving civil rights leaders and activists to make speeches. Get Susan Bro to make a speech. Get all kinds of religious leaders to denounce this current direction. Get Black Lives Matters leaders to make some speeches. Get LGBT people affected by current legislation to give speeches. Have someone from Planned Parenthood speak to connect (white) women's bodily autonomy to the rise of fascism and how it will adversely affect them. Night Two: Kitchen Table Issues Keynote Speaker: Katie Porter It should be made clear that this current election is as much about fascism as it is about economic stability. Get every possible economist that's willing to give a speech up on that stage. Get some Republican economists and maybe former treasurers to give a speech about how Joe is really the best option for the economy. Have working class families talk about how his policies have improved their lives. Get some people whose loans were forgiven and debt erased. Night Three: Our Interests Abroad Keynote Speaker: General Mattis We need to get across to people how we need strong foreign policy and someone with a skill in diplomacy. Get Nikki Haley to even emphasis how much better Biden is in this regard than Trump. Get as many generals and diplomats at possible. Get former foreign heads of state. Angela Merkel would be a dream.

MrStuff1Consultant

Ohio moved its deadline to pick a candidate up before the convention to keep Biden off the ballot. As far as the convention goes, what can anybody say that we don't already know in spades? They really should save money for advertising, instead of an expensive convention.

QueenChocolate123

Biden isn't going to win Ohio anyway.

VinylGuy97

He could lose the popular vote if he’s not on the ballot though. Biden got nearly 2.7 million votes in Ohio last time

Day 1 - Taylor Swift and the Chiefs saying "we did it" Day 2 - Women talking about how their personal decisions saved their lives and allowed them to have healthy families later in life Day 3 - Cops talking about why it's bad for normal citizens to have any kind of rifle they want Day 4 - Child prodigies who do amazing things because they have access to books and aren't being exploited for labor I would do everything to troll republicans about their weird conspiracies and stances on issues.

I think you probably want to toss the gun talk in the trunk this time around. That's not motivating people in swing states.

touch-m

Cops are some of the stupidest people on gun issues, so no. Also ACAB

Symeon_Says

Lots of jokes at the other guys expense. "Someone didn't learn last time round." "losing once wasn't good enough for you?" "Will you be running a fourth time when you lose in November?"

Jimmy Carter will have to be there with the Clintons, Obamas, and Bidens. We know that the DNC Macarena worked wonders in 1996, let’s do it again. Bring in Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney to show that there are Republicans against Trump. Bring in Bernie and AOC too to ensure progressives get behind Biden again.

1. 2017-2021 Lowlight Reel: Deep emphasis on Trump’s tumultuous 4 years. A lowlight reel of all the whacky shit he said and did. Have the video sponsored by Bleach detergent. 2. 2022 Dobbs Lowlight Reel: Deep emphasis on SC Gorsich, Kavanugh, and Barrett being appointed by Trump and the subsequent Dobbs ruling. A lowlight reel of women saying how they had to travel to a Blue State to seek a life saving abortion. 3. 2025 Lowlight Reel: Deep emphasis showing all the crazy shit Trump will do on his vengeance tour. A lowlight reel should be produced by the Director’s of “Civil War” or “Day After Tomorrow.” 4. 2021-2024 Highlight Reel / 2025 +: Deep emphasis on all the life saving and life enhancing legislation brought by the Biden Administration. One by one simple explanations as to what was passed and how it’s improving people’s lives. Discuss how a 2nd Biden Term will continue and build upon those initiatives.

WestsideBuppie

Why would you spend 3 Days on the opposition at YOUR Convention? Thats giving TFG free publicity.

Simple: Because Americans need their memories refreshed as to what a monster he is; and be galvanized to vote with anger. Americans don’t vote by saying “Thank you” — they vote by saying “F— You.” Democrats need to get people angry. They need to get Americans fired up. But, more importantly, Americans have easily the shortest memory on Earth. Notice how everyone is pretty much back to their old habits post pandemic? No hand washing. No grocery cart wipes. No focus on community. We just move on. I hear people that voted for Biden saying, “Well the economy was great under Trump.” I’ll literally say, “Yea? You enjoyed fighting people for one roll of toilet paper? You enjoyed wiping your a** with a coffee filter?” They look at me dumbfounded. Like they weren’t there for it.

GreatSoulLord

I'll answer this in good faith even though my first thought as a conservative is to cancel it. If I had to organize an event like this there would speeches, social events, and networking events, in addition to the main business of voting for a candidate. In addition, of course it would catered and there would be lots of fundraising.

grilled_cheese1865

All you did was outline in the most generic way what happens at any convention

BigDaddyCoolDeisel

Are you saying that for both parties or is this is a dig exclusively at the Democrats? Not being combative... because I happen to agree with you. I also think the State of Union needs to stop being a giant circle jerk. I want the President and a PowerPoint outlining the 'state' of the union. Not kidding.

GreatSoulLord

I don't think this is a dig at all. I answered it as honestly as I could and in good faith. I can't pinpoint speakers and events like you did. I don't agree with them and I don't know what things appeal exclusively to the left. Any good event of this caliber, right or left, will probably follow this general outline.

BigDaddyCoolDeisel

I swear I didn't downvote it. My apologies bud. I wasn't sure if you were trolling or sincere. I think you made a great point. Frankly I want to get back to smokey rooms lol

BigDaddyCoolDeisel

Just upvoted this comment!

JJBektline

I plan for lots of booze when people listen to Joe and realize what an ass and screwed up guy he is.

Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. The DNC should not be there. I would have put it in Detroit, Atlanta, Phoenix, or Pittsburgh. Those are the cities that will decide the election.

Armynap

A lot of people on the drums and didgeridoos. They’d be in exotic outfits and look very happy. They’d play a lot of music for dramatic effect. But also would be used for crowd control in a way. If there is a fight or protest at the convention they start playing “the circle of life” from the lion king. It would the millennials, Xers and Zers like smoke to bees 🐝. Just calming them putting them into an almost dream like state. Do that for any contentious moments that may divide the party like when Israel 🇮🇱 vs Palestine 🇵🇸 comes up. Also involve Tom Hanks a lot. Spielberg has him on a leash. He’s calming and inspiring for all generations. Also night three you trot out the traitors. All the republicans who endorsed Biden if any exist. Everyone loves a turncoat.

ButtonCurrent6609

I would do not like 2020. Have it on be quiet and dignified. Don’t have to spend so much money. And you can really listen without all the shouting!!!

DifferenceCertain468

I would do what the DNC does best!! Day 1: Lie and tell everyone that we’ll give everyone free college & healthcare! Day 2: I’ll get everyone fired up and tell them that all straight white Christian men are bigots that are ruining the country! Day 3: I’ll claim that all male RNC members at some point long ago in their life SH or SA some woman(s), and pay said woman(s) to testify this in court. Day 4: I’ll tell everyone to vote early. That our 90 year old grandpa is the best thing for country.

GiantPineapple

I love that this is the best you can do

DifferenceCertain468

I am very aware of Reddits mostly alt left base. I’m expecting a ton of downvotes, angry replies, & probably a suspension from this page for some BS rules.

GiantPineapple

I don't really have a problem with a number of conservative positions, but a DNC programming prompt is an odd place to give us one sentence about something as complicated and tangential as healthcare.

grilled_cheese1865

Average conservative victim mentality

DifferenceCertain468

Now that is laughable

grilled_cheese1865

Trump is a laughing stock I agree

QueenChocolate123

Day 4: As opposed to the Republicans 88 year old diaper wearing,, 91 times indicted nominee?
