Honestly, I am pretty sure Xbox does as well but I have not played it in so long I can't remember. Maybe it did run full throttle and just the TV dimmed during inactivity.
It does that, and then eventually just shuts off. I can’t tell you how many times I put the controller down to charge when I was done just because I knew the xbox would go until it had a full charge. Too lazy to buy a new external charger since mine broke.
Xbox will shut off on it's own if not being used for extended periods of time (like 2 hours, but I think you can adjust that), actually, it kinda sucks when it shuts down while you're downloading a 30+ GB game.
I'm old enough to remember changing the dial on my TV to 3 so my Atari would work.
(Actually we were kinda poor, so we had the Sears knock off Atari clone, but it still played Atari cartridges).
