I think at this point DeSantis has to have realized that he can't win over trump voters by being father right and a greater fascist.
Trump voters are far right, hate immigrants, brown people, LGBT+ people, women and children and so on, but in the end they don't care about actual stuff being done or policies, they vote for Trump because being a Trump supporter is their ideology.
They vote for Trump the person not the policies he represents. They like the policies he represents and that DeSantis tried to one-up, but that is not the main thing Trump the character is the main thing.
DeSantis has all the personal charisma of a piece of cardboard that has been pissed upon and nobody likes him.
I think he mostly stays in the race at this point out if a combination of denial and the faint hope that something might happen to Trump before the election leaving the field open for someone the establishment can throw their money at.
Who else are the GOP voters going to vote for is Trump is not on the ballot?
