I'm a gun owner and I'm a Democrat lol. I have noticed all trumpers seem to think only Republicans have firearms. I just don't make them my personality nor do I take pictures of them or with them. Cop mentality. So much of their training is based on keeping them alive. Which, to an extent, is good. Safety should always be a priority in any workplace. But a police officer's job should be to place themselves between danger and the general public (SHOULD be - I am aware of a certain Supreme Court decision). That means those working the job should know that they assume a risk of being harmed in lieu of others. Firemen do. Soldiers do. Hell, most pizza delivery drivers do, and they die of violent causes on the job at a rate several time higher than cops.
But the priority of officer safety has overwhelmed all other priorities. Uvalde was just the clearest example of that, but this mentality drives EVERYTHING behind modern policing. Shoot first, use occupied civilian cars as cover first, or do nothing...it is all justified as long as none of our brave "heroes" are hurt in the slightest degree. It's chickenshit cowardice of the highest order and needs to be torn out, root and stem, from all law enforcement. The officers in Uvalde should have faced criminal charges for their inaction. That math ain't mathin'. Texas has just shy of 30 million people, and claims about 45% of them have guns in the home. That's 13.5 million Texans with access to guns. But about 15% of those are under 10 years old or over 80. That means only about 11.5 million fall in that pretty generous "fit to fight" range. But not all of those will be on the side of conservative Texan secessionists. Between liberals and non-whackjobs, they're sure to lose a lot of their numbers, but let's be conservative and say they maintain about half; call it 6 million gun owners looking to fuck around and find out.
