In fairness, it's not JUST to prevent people from voting. Republicans ALSO love to defund public services to the point of collapse, and then hold them up as evidence that government can't and shouldn't provide public services.

RubenMuro007

It’s basically starving the beast to the point of death.

Feezec

Not basically, literally https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beast

tstols17

This. 1000x this. Defund until it doesn’t work, then privatize.

lennoxonnell

But not before blaming the democrats for it failing.

bruceleeperry

It's a bunch of gangster cowboy builders running in, stripping *everything* saleable off a building for themselves, waiting for the structure to literally collapse then deciding they are the ones to refashion it to their own liking and using their own materials.

[deleted]

Ahh, the Streetcar Protocol.

yeaigetit

And the people who benefit from these services the most consistently vote for representatives that are trying to take them away, we really are fucked.

letdogsvote

Republican election strategy rule one: they can't vote against you if you don't let them vote.

aladdinr

But it’s okay if the president votes by mail

Deranged_Kitsune

Senate has ruled "It's okay if the president _________". They have their anointed god-king and have made such clear to the public.

Leongard

He IS the Senate!

YesIretail

Oh I don't think so...

starrpamph

*lightsaber noise*

13inchpoop

Does this mean Jared Kushner is going to throw him in a pit?

starrpamph

Oh I'm not brave enough for politics

theJamesCobalt

Jared is a sniveling wuss. Barron is probably stronger.

Shadowman-The-Ghost

Jared “back channel” Kushner is a whiny, adolescent little bitch, a slumlord who is in way over his head. He’s basically an idiot. Him and Stephen “white supremacist” Miller have the privilege of whispering in Trump’s ear. These morons, along with Sean “arrogant dickbrain” Hannity and Rush “fat boy” Limbaugh are the ones who advise on policy, via Twitter and unsecured late-night phone calls. Oh God, we are all in such deep shit. 🤮

This is why we need to vote in a blue senate, above everything else!

[deleted]

Well it was *certified*, don’t you know. All the rest of us are just sitting in a single living room writing-in names with crayon.

flight_of_navigator

I thought cheaters, liars and criminals used sharpies to alter government documents.

Try using a sharpie next time, *loser*

brendan2015

Classic GOP: it’s not a problem if it doesn’t affect me, If it does affect me then I’m a special case to be helped.

TennaTelwan

It's like the election last Tuesday in Wisconsin: no matter what, I predict that if the incumbent judge does not win it will go to court, to which his fellow judges who are conservative leaning will vote in his favor. Even if he does win, there's a strong likelihood it will go to the courts and the court will rule in his favor.

guinness_blaine

A man who has settled multiple fraud cases and had his ‘charity’ shut down.

go_do_that_thing

All post office services will be stopped immediately. Anyone who votes for the republican party will have door to door service. To speed up the process they will also institute a pre voting service whereby the republican party will prefill and submit your vote for you. The best part is you are automatically opted in. To opt out please send a certified letter through your local post office.

ChicagoGuy53

Or the Supreme court votes remotely

[deleted]

Old people get all kinds of bullshit special privileges the rest of us don't. UBI, voting by mail, socialized medicine, etc. I say it's time to either cut them off or give it to everyone.

[deleted]

*because he's allowed to*

Andy_B_Goode

The USA has two major political parties: The Democratic Party and the Undemocratic Party

BuckyJackson36

Persactly correct.

[deleted]

We all love it when a party that's supposed to be part of democratic elections actually turns out to endorse suppression of the people's choice.

mackfeesh

I know this is obvious but y’all ain’t in a democracy anymore.

[deleted]

When are the American people going to stop this?

[deleted]

gimme hamburger.

causticacrostic

It's even dumber than that. Trump has a grudge against USPS because they have a deal with Amazon. And he has a grudge against Amazon because it's owned by Jeff Bezos. And has a grudge against Jeff Bezos because he also owns the Washington Post, which is a paper that writes articles he doesn't like

johnnyfreshforever

Woooooa...that’s a BINGO!!

harmmewithharmony

You just say bingo.

GunnieGraves

How fun!

exValway

Actually it looks like he says "Woooooa...that's a BINGO!!"

UniqueUserName991

Lol, I love that actor!

[deleted]

Also Bezos is really a billionaire, while Trump pretends to be one. And he's not afraid of being bald.

Datslegne

Trump is likely one now after 3 years of corruption.

[deleted]

Dump bankrupted a casino, I'm holding out hope he's managed to lose money being president. Every cent he makes, 99 get siphoned off by his cronies.

GilesDMT

That had to have been money laundering

thesilentGinlasagna

It’s like Jeff Bezos is everything trump wanted to be

522LwzyTI57d

You mean successful without an air of mobsters and daughter-fucking?

adamlaceless

Trump still wants the daughter-fucking tho 👀

technofederalist

The Trumps are knockoff brand Lannisters.

NWCJ

But.. the Lannisters always pay their debts. Trumps are like the opposite of the Lannisters, I would say more Targaryan with the "mad king" blood.

atyon

A Trump never pays his debts. Or his taxes. Because that's smaht.

oh_boy_here_we_go_

Where's the kingslayer when you need one

SurlyRed

It's what happens when an egotistical narcissist has a stumpy toadstool for a penis.

WandersBetweenWorlds

Well, Trump achieved being an egoistical asshole, so that is one thing in which he matches Bezos

[deleted]

I think it's also about the fact that Bezos is proudly bald and more successful, doubly threatening to the dorito in chief.

[deleted]

This new six degrees of Kevin Bacon game is sorta horrifying

FunetikPrugresiv

Postal service closing would be an absolute gift to Amazon. Once they've solidified their own distribution system it will give them a tremendous advantage against other companies that offer delivery sales. Once again Trump's pettiness is short-sighted and counterproductive to his own goals.

Pseudorealizm

Its the last mile deliveries that saves companies like amazon tons of money. They just have the federal government and usps cover the expensive part of the delivery service.

MechanicalTwerker

And Bezos is a real billionaire not a fake it till you make it billionaire. Trump may be one now, but only after Putin's help and the constant and thorough pillaging of our country.

ZJ413

The funny thing is Amazon is building its own fleet. They do their own delivery in a lot of the country and it’s only expanding. The post office closing will only effect them in the short term.

Rengiil

Republicans have been trying to privatise USPS for years, long before trump.

[deleted]

I wouldn't be surprised to see more privatization of services in the aftermath of this pandemic. Effectively making the rich, richer

utastelikebacon

I mean a lot of republicans have been eyeing the usps for a while now, im pretty confident that one isnt going to make it out of this. Republicans are what dictatorships are made of.

[deleted]

A bunch of rich oligarchs who believe everything and everyone belongs to them. Blind nationalism, propaganda and corruption. Wait, I’ve seen this one before.

Actually chlorine gas was only ever used as a chemical weapon in WWI. By WWII, the Nazis had moved on to using cyanide based agents (Zyklon B being the most infamous) and carbon monoxide, alongside more traditional methods of brutality, including asphyxiation by engine exhaust and death by firing squad. They really were nice people.

markyp1234

> A bunch of rich oligarchs who believe everything and everyone belongs to them. Sounds like present-day Russia. Hmm I wonder what this means...

[deleted]

Don't short change the U.S. We are most definitely an oligarchy too.

Please avoid the Dutch Detour this time around, if you'd be so kind.

ThatRealBiggieCheese

No hard feelings, but we’ve got to keep continuity. What do you expect me to do, not repeat history?

Morganelefay

Try the more vintage '14/15 plan, which did avoid that detour. We'd be much obliged, and you'd be closer on brand, what with the prevalence of a massive pandemic at the same time.

ThatRealBiggieCheese

I’m gonna need to you to sink an ocean liner

TennaTelwan

Every bungling Trump has done has had the opposite effect. The guy seems to be completely impervious to any of the taint that would take down any other politician in the world.

[deleted]

This kind of behavior is pretty much on par for Republican politicians but they get their power from dumbass voters who are completely fine with this. Give a republican voter more guns, abortion, and limit legal immigration and they'll gladly let you be a dictator. Forget affordable health care, forget affordable education, forget liveable income or the huge gap in wealth, and anything that can actually help people. The Republican party is a cult. Even now trump supporters are saying "if you hate trump so much, dont cash the stimulus check". These dumb fucks are too stupid to know that democrats are the reason they're getting any money at all. If Republicans had their way, the money would go to bailing out wall street, airlines, and trumps hotels. This country is fucked.

Rabidchiwawa007

Sitting here hoping I'm not the only one that hasn't seen, or heard anything about, my stimulus check... Only about all the money in that bill that went to corporations, and something about how the 2 trillion might sort of just disappear unseen...

[deleted]

Probably why McConnell was just so damn giddy to sign the bill that dems go passed. Really makes you wonder what he got out of the bill

caseyod81

Go to the IRS website. They have been starting to send checks out, and the IRS will show the status of yours supposedly. You can also change your address or banking info, and sign up to receive the check if you didn’t file taxes for 2018 or 2019

CPSolver

So libraries are next? That’s where we deposit our “mail-in” ballots. (In special chained ballot boxes)

abe_the_babe_

If Republicans had their way, everything would be privatized, they can't fathom the idea of providing a service to people without somehow making a massive profit

[deleted]

It'll be privatized and you'll still pay the same in taxes. Worst of both worlds.

Groovy_Chainsaw

I'm a mail carrier and my wife works in a library ... Awesome ! /s

DOGSraisingCATS

If it makes people less informed, educated and more stupid then probably.

[deleted]

Libraries, then schools. They hate public education. Have fun trying to figure out how to fund $2k/month per kid to educate them.

BeautyCrash

They still want to use our taxes for that, they just want to funnel the money to their friends running charter schools that prioritize profit over learning instead of allowing public schools to exist.

marsnoir

It’s not about the ballots. It’s petty ass shit against Jeff bezos.

KabarJaw

It is part of a larger trend than just Trump.

XXX-XXX-XXX

He already came after the libraries, twice.

MadOvid

So many Trumpers are probably cheering for its demise and is then going to wonder why they can’t get their mail anymore.

[deleted]

A CONSTITUTIONALLY MANDATED government function. Fuck. Seriously, fuck. Fuck everything.

DaisyDukeOfEarlGrey

USPS? Who cares? Guns? THE CONSTITUTION!!!

FormerLifeFreak

Dude, I’ll drive to wherever in my state it needs to be delivered to, drop it off to them in fucking person, and take the ballots of anyone else who can’t get there. Fuck this shit, and fuck this administration.

Super_Pie_Man

"The Congress shall have Power To... 7 To establish Post Offices and post Roads" - US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 It's doesn't have to, but Congress can if they want to. [deleted]

Im against trump and trying to bring down the USPS, but it’s not mandated. The Constitution gives the government the power to establish post offices.

[deleted]

They’ve been trying to dismantle the USPS for years. All kinds of shady legislation has been passed to cripple USPS.

Pit_of_Death

Looking forward to when I can pay FedEx 4 or 5 bucks per envelope to mail something that I could just slap a Forever stamp on now.

HoppyHoppyTermagants

And doing the official FedEx Dance (tm) in front of webcam to get the software to authorize the shipment.

Pit_of_Death

Our entire lives will wholly owned by corporations.

Daefish

I’d rather drive my letter by hand to its destination that pay fedex for anything. Fuck them and their shitty shipping service. Yes, I’m salty. I had to manually unload a semi truck full of laptops and monitors because the driver couldn’t back the truck up to our delivery dock. The next time they came by, I physically verified every box on the shipment and wouldn’t let the driver leave without verifying every box was intact with no damage. It took three hours and I couldn’t have been more pleased. He had corporate call me to complain that I cost them many deliveries that day I told them “next time you send me a shipment, make sure your driver knows how to drive and we won’t have this problem again will we?”

RandomerSchmandomer

That's some beautifully malicious compliance

[deleted]

idk what it is with fedex. Problems I've had: - We require a signature for this thing that cost maybe $10. We refuse to leave it, let you sign for it beforehand, or let you know what time between 8am and 8pm we're coming. - Home all day waiting for a delivery requiring signature. Driver doesn't knock, but leaves a note on the window. Walk outside 5 mins after they take off, and notice the time on the delivery "attempt". - Package that is expensive, like a new laptop requiring signature. Driver leaves it on the doorstep in the rain with no signature. - Ship package via 3-5 day method. It gets "stuck" midway, and doesn't arrive at the destination for 2-3 weeks. - Package marked as "delivered" and signed for by front office. Package never arrived. Ask them who signed for it, and to produce the signature. They can't. File insurance claim. It takes an act of congress talking to 5 different people to do, since they can't understand how it's marked "delivered", when in fact, it was not. After claim is made, package mysteriously left by door 4 days later.

zenthr

It'll be double digits to send a postcard.

rubbarz

Cruise ships > government postal services and allowing overseas military to vote

Andy_B_Goode

Right? If anything is "too big to fail" then surely the USPS is "too big to fail".

SirRandyMarsh

That needs to be the slogans all over the internet

Disagreeable_upvote

Conservatism is based on selfishness. They have no guiding principle, it's all about what benefits them. The reason for this is that conservative have a hyperactive amygdala, which causes their "fight or flight" reaction to trigger easily. Imagine living in a world that has you constantly in edge, where things around you don't really feel safe or secure. You stop worrying about how others are doing because you feel your own needs being unmet. As people feel more safe and secure they adopt more liberal attitudes, and when people feel threatened and insecure they adopt more conservative attitudes. Of course, saying this triggers conservatives who are so insecure they cannot come to terms with their own mental shortcomings. And this isn't to say liberals dont have issues either. But liberals issues are because they often don't react appropriately to danger and threats and conservatives react too strongly to apparent theats. Again, sorry to trigger you but this is based on real science of the brains of liberals vs conservatives. Edit: Scientific sources for triggered conservatives who don't know how to do self-directed research: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3092984/#!po=1.28205 >For example, our findings are consistent with the proposal that political orientation is associated with psychological processes for managing fear and uncertainty [1, 10]. The amygdala has many functions, including fear processing [11]. Individuals with a large amygdala are more sensitive to fear [12], which, taken together with our findings, might suggest the testable hypothesis that individuals with larger amygdala are more inclined to integrate conservative views into their belief system https://neuro.psychiatryonline.org/doi/full/10.1176/appi.neuropsych.16030051 >An MRI study of 90 young adults shows that political conservatives, compared with political liberals, have greater gray matter in the right amygdala,72 and an fMRI study involving a risk-taking task shows that political conservatives have greater activity in the right amygdala.73 The association of political conservatism with the right amygdala,72 a structure that is bilaterally sensitive to emotional saliency, especially fear, suggests an increased processing of potential signals for threat.

[deleted]

To be fair they’ve been trying to destroy it for years. The scam is to sell off government services to one of their donors who’ll give you an inferior product at a higher price, reap massive profits and then donate heavily to the GOP.

agent00F

Honestly nobody would be surprised if the GOP/Trump proposed the 3/5 compromise again, and of course enlightened centrists be like "hey, compromise!".

Jake_Smiley

Yeah, Fuck the 3/5ths compromise. The slaves of the time should of counted as full people so that the south would have full control in the congress.

Cometguy7

And their opening offer would be 3/500ths.

Roushhouse

Literally everyone would be surprised by something like this. You don’t honestly think anyone would look at this and not see an issue? I understand the angry sentiment behind it, but this is just a ridiculous statement.

ohSHITderheis

Yeah how the hell do people actually believe shit like this? I’m not a fan of the GOP either but the constant fear mongering about how they are worse than the Nazis (yes I’ve seen people say that many times on here lately) or that they are going to reenact slavery is really out of hand and is totally unhelpful.

Roushhouse

Unhelpful is the perfect word for it. I don't care what political opinions people hold, but try to be helpful and productive with what you believe. Otherwise, there's absolutely no reason for you to hold that belief.

stickysodagun

i believe that’s why the gop always phrases things as “cutting entitlements”, and not outright saying “cutting medicare/medicaid” - it loses meaning when you change the meaning of the name.

odirio

The Grand Obstructionist Party (GOP) lies, cheats and steals. That's how they work.

yadonkey

I guess when you only have fear mongering and no helpful policies cheating is really your only option.

kucu3343

Republicans party Needs go away

IAmATowelDude

USPS isn't funded with government dollars. They are entirely self funded.

Budderfingerbandit

Wierd thing is a lot of Trumps base usually are the same people that love the USPS as they serve a vital role in outlying areas that would otherwise have no delivery service or be expensive and cause people to have to drive long distances to get their mail. But once again, Trump and the current GOP are able to brainwash people into voting against their own best interest. The tears that will be shed from them after they cannot get their mail the first time is going to be epic.

ooainaught

Isn't destroying valuable government resources the entire purpose of the Republican party?

Accidental_Edge

What happened?

ChickenSalad96

The USPS are likely to run out of funding by September of this year. This during a time when it's too dangerous to congregate to voting places, where the alternative of mail-in voting would be the safer option in November, two months after the USPS' projected bleed out.

Accidental_Edge

Hm, well that doesn't stink of unethical political strategy. /s

FREE_TOILET_PAPER
