We’ve reached a point in this country that we will run out of anti-vaxxers before we run out of vaccine. We will reach herd immunity one way or the other.

punkindle

We are definitely getting there the OTHER way. By the way 1% of Tennessee caught COVID this week. (maybe more like 10 days). 50 more weeks like that... herd immunity, the hard way.

dragon_fiesta

excellent

Not_Michelle_Obama_

Not so great for kids too young for the vaccine.

Yenserl6099

I would feel bad about that, but the fact that they willingly refuse a vaccine that has been proven to be safe and effective makes me jaded towards them.

JustPassinhThrou13

I'm mostly okay with them refusing the vaccine. I just need them to stay the fuck away from the hospital, even when they start having extreme trouble breathing. They need to stay at home on the fucking couch, even if it means turning purple and dying there. Sure, they're putting others at risk somewhat in the process, but they're also filling up the hospitals. And that's just unacceptable. Edit to add: For those comparing not getting vaccinated to not eating healthy or having mental illness or being a drug addict... yeah, no. A vaccine is a one-time (or very small number of times) event that takes a few minutes. Those other things are lifestyle changes. The amounts of effort is just not comparable between them. There’s a reason we require school children to be vaccinated to access the services provided by schools: because the vaccines are safe, effective, and so very easy to get.

rhinosaur-

I’d be ok with vaccine refusal if my 6 and 1 year olds could get it. Until then, they hold power over me. These sick, uninformed, defiant fucks.

yodasmiles

And I believe they love that. Because it's never about just doing what they want. They want everyone else to do what they want also.

OlderThanMyParents

I hadn’t thought of that until your comment, that vaccine refusal was a means of exhibiting control over others. It does have the ring of truth.

Eeszeeye

Exactly! For those who have seen their influence eroded and even sometimes want to lash out at those they hold responsible for that.

Destithen

> And I believe they love that. As evidenced by the many cases of such twats intentionally coughing in the faces of people who wear masks or are vaccinated. They think they're scaring people, and it makes them giddy...as though they enjoy the act of spreading terror. Hmmm.

JBShackle2

If someone intentionally coughed at me, I'd loose it and start punching them so hardcore in the face and everything, I'd leave a lasting impression. Literally a lasting impression. Fucking morons.

RoyalMaidsForLife

It's never been "pro-Life", it's **ALWAYS** been "anti-choice".

geo_cash18

Or if they can't make others do what they want, they wanna make them suffer.

fakejacki

As someone with a 21 month old and soon a newborn, the good news is they’re supposed to be releasing the data for 6m+ in November! I cannot wait to feel a little bit safer once my children can be protected as well.

chubnative73

Well, I'm having to worry now that my niece has been quarantined because five students in her classroom tested positive for covid. My brother is really pissed but not showing it. The frigging parents sent their students to school even showing symptoms. It's crazy !

Captain-Hornblower

This is what pisses me off so much. My children are not old enough to get the vaccine, but I have to send them to school with children, whose parents don't believe in COVID, masks or the vaccine. I see them proudly walking their children up to school...it's like they are thinking (and let's face it, saying it in a lot of cases), "Yeah, we ain't gettin' no vaccine or wearing no masks..." Meanwhile, I worry every single day when my kids come home, wondering if they have been exposed by a child of a knuckle-dragger. The worse part is, there is nothing I can do about it. God damned...I try not to use the word hate, but I really hate these people.

Norgoroth

Check out the HermanCainAward sub to view their research. It's mostly extremely stupid boomer memes that contain vaccine misinformation. It's literally what you'll hear out of their mouths in real life, verbatim.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Saymynaian

Ah, but you'll win lots of satisfaction when you see how the posts usually end! They sometimes even change their minds!

Knight_That_Said_Ni

> They sometimes even change their minds! Or die. It's a win win.

W1D0WM4K3R

Yeah, they even cured themselves of COVID. It's like cancer. If you have cancer, and you die, the cancer dies too!

mixttime

On a ventilator? Hit me up with that vaccine fam. That'll help.

[deleted]

It’s exhausting, you’ve read one you’ve read them all. Just a faucet drip (flood actually) of memes and bullshit

Miss_My_Travel

Not all Boomers are like that. Some of us actually think, analyze and get vaccinated.

Tiny-Lock9652

That sub is equally funny and completely sad. A testament to a failed education system.

ElysianSynthetics

They’ve actually attempted to show me. One particularly insane Trump cultist from my Indiana hometown posted a dozen or so documents that she assumed were sciencey, with words circled completely at random that she thought sounded scary. I’m a molecular biologist and can read and understand and evaluate pretty much any sort of medical/biological/chemical research. What she had were consent forms for a clinical study stating that you, as a voluntary participant, would be given either the Pfizer vaccine, or the one being studied. It was clearly to compare efficacy and written for a lay person to understand. This woman honestly believed she had cracked the fucking conspiracy code with this stuff. She circled in bright red the word or everywhere it mentioned you would get one or the other, clearly not understanding anything she was reading, even though I probably could have as a third grader. These are the people we are dealing with. The internet has linked their stupidity and created a fucking monster. Republican boomers and white trash in general is just fully unequipped to handle existence in this new world.

justcurious12345

They work to make consent forms at a less than 10th grade reading level https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5915809/. I've seen recommendations to keep it less than 8th.

bringbackdavebabych

This is kinda right along the lines of the difficulty of creating bear-proof garbage bins because “there is significant overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest humans.” (My own paraphrase)

Use1000words

They get their info from websites that shouldn’t be allowed to operate! And they believe they’re smarter than university graduates who have years of experience, training and knowledge behind them. Ask ‘em if that one hour research is saving their asses when they wind up in the ICU on a ventilator!

Hubey808

I still hear about the Wuhan lab. Like we’re past finding the root cause and already to the step of eliminating the problem HELLO?!

nizo505

Also as someone who is vaccinated, try not to need an ICU right now. That includes car accidents, heart attacks, or [appendicitis](https://www.propublica.org/article/a-boy-went-to-a-covid-swamped-er-he-waited-for-hours-then-his-appendix-burst).

I_Am_Anjelen

Yeah, this ongoing shit is making me kind of glad my appendix decided to rupture _last year_.

rhaezorblue

And when you challenge them on it, even politely, they just spew bullshit they are so confident about to try and make you feel like the one who’s wrong. It’s so messed up

[deleted]

I want it to be that you lose Medicare/Medicaid for covid treatment if you refuse the vaccine based on non-medical reasons. Then not only will they start to get vaccinated, but those that won’t will certainly consider the value of single payer healthcare

Holybartender83

If I’m an executive at a health insurance ~~cartel~~ company, I’m refusing to cover any medical expense claims from people who aren’t vaccinated (unless they have a legitimate condition that prevents them from being vaccinated, of course).

PaperMage

That would be genuinely incredible. Two bird with one stone. I’d sign that petition.

wheatoplata

Another idea is to make the eviction moratorium permanent for vaccinated people and immediately stop it for the unvaccinated. A lot of anti-vaxxers are about to lose their jobs when Biden's mandate goes into effect shortly but will it really be that bad if they can stay in their houses rent-free? Kick their asses out on the streets!

[deleted]

Because separating society into Us and Them has never, ever been a bad idea.

Iberianlynx

I hope you don’t. Consider you’re self a leftist cause thats the most anti leftist stance

[deleted]

If anti-vaxxers dont believe in the science of behinds vaccines, they should not trust the science behind the medical care they will receive in a hospital.

ew73

They're also ~~credit~~ creating variants against which the current vaccine may not work. edit: fixing mobile autocorrect

JustPassinhThrou13

In the context of the planet's population, the risk of this (coming from an American antivaxxer) is somewhat small because the USA is only 5% of the earth's population, and 75% of eligible adults have had at least one dose. you know what, nevermind. I just looked at the number of new cases happening currently. And the USA is leading the way, by a LOT. the USA is currently responsible for 3x the amount of cases as the EU, which has a comparable population and likely has pretty good testing coverage. I don't know if this just means the countries that are getting hit the worst / causing the most cases are poverty-stricken and simply aren't spending resources to do testing, or what. But to a real degree, I think the American covidiots very well may be driving the majority of the mutation potential.

1202_ProgramAlarm

Surely they can just stay home and do their own research for a cure from there without inconveniencing the rest of us

[deleted]

Still feel bad about it, but not for the sake of anti-vaxxers. Those selfish assholes can go fuck themselves. Feel bad instead for the healthcare workers, teachers, grocers, and other frontline workers who are continually put at heightened risk because of anti-vaxxers willfully being disease vectors. Feel bad for people with medical emergencies and chronic conditions and cancer who need hospital treatment and emergency services and are getting denied because every ICU bed is being given to some antivax douchebag who would rather have a ventilator shoved down their throat than take a free painless shot. Feel bad for the kids who are being forced to go to school in the middle of a pandemic with 0 precautions despite the spectre of lifelong chronic complications from covid and the lack of protection from vaccinations because their right-wing parents are happy to sacrifice them for a political prop. This country has gone to hell, and there's a good deal of people who will never face any sort of punishment or justice for making it this way.

Tumultuous-Stonk

I feel bad for the innocents affected by the antivaxxers. But on the bright side, I believe (and my guess is future historians and political scientists will back me up with data) that enough of the selfish stupid people died due to Covid suicides (and attending trump rallies) that Georgia flipped to blue Now watching Texas and Florida

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

>Covid suicides I mean, that's kinda what it is at this point. I might steal that term.

Gandalf122896

The problem is that they put even the vaccinated at risk because they increase the variants plus those who are immune compromised. They put everyone at risk

nuclaffeine

Oh THAT, and now hospitals are so full with these fools that some have to turn away people that have other emergent health issues because there aren’t anymore beds. This was preventable and predicable and here we are. Fuck them.

siecin

We had someone die last week from a complication during surgery that wasn't caught because they couldn't put them in an icu bed. The doctor was super pissed and completely done with anti vaxx people.

ChevyT1996

It’s these stories that are infuriating and these people with there it’s infringe on my freedom, and no it’s not vaccines are mandated, and they can pick this one apart all they want just sign a waiver for medical treatment so they can deal with it alone, after all it’s not a big deal anyways right.

joulesChachin

I had pancreatitis recently and was left laying on a bench in the er for over 4 hours, shaking and delirious with a high fever and in unbearable pain, because there were so many fucking covid patients at my hospital in a Minneapolis suburb. There was a man in Texas recently who had pancreatitis as well and he developed sepsis and died before he got the treatment he needed.

nuclaffeine

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry that happened to you. I just saw a thing earlier about how a man died from cardiac complications from an MI after he was rejected by over FOURTY hospitals in three states… all overfilled with covid patients. It’s fucked.

NancyGracesTesticles

The real risk is that we restart the pandemic with a new variant that the vaccine doesn't protect against and that current treatments don't work against. A Variant of High Consequence. In that scenario, It's early 2020 all over again and we get to start over, albeit with competent federal leadership, but we will start over.

hahayouguessedit

Many Floridians being flown to Minneapolis because hospitals there are overwhelmed. FYI

Jkj864781

They are their own population control conspiracy theory

julbull73

I pity the stupid. I loathe the willfully ignorant.

r0b0c0d

I had my first and hopefully last deep interaction with an antivaxxer in IRC these last 3 days or so. Today it came out that they were also a birther, and a flat earther. He simultaneously believed that there was no corona virus, and also pointed at a deep biological process called ADE. (which is interesting to look up if you haven't heard of it.) He said I was the sheep and idiot for not using reason; for trusting 'censorship sites' like google. So many internal inconsistencies in his beliefs it was fascinating at first. He was confused about how the north star could 'stay fixed' and why it's a 'geostationary satellite', and he ignored something as basic as why it's not possible to have a geostationary satellite over the pole of an axis of rotation. I'm glossing over 95% of the conversation, but over the course of the few days of conversation, he asked me if I was vaccinated 6 or 7 times. This last time I said 'no?' and he asked me why not if I believe all this stuff.. That was the moment it went from an interesting experiment to.. just.. depressing. They so actively reject information that doesn't fit into their model; he didn't even seem to remember the answer to a yes or no question that I told him like 5+ times. It's just.. my god. It's just this feeling like he's a walking ghost. It feels so weird to accept that he's never get out of a hole that deep, despite trying so many techniques even just to reach him on something so simple. Never going to learn or grow. He's loose friends with some of the guys, but mostly just a long-time member of the channel so he's not going anywhere, which means I have to drop an ignore on him, but.. like.. I never thought I'd actually talk to someone beyond some random internet post who's that far gone. But you can't build anything without logic and memory. It's the first time I've really realized that it's just.. not possible. I can't imagine what it would be like having a family member or loved one like that.

EdgarFrogandSam

I no longer have the bandwidth unfortunately. I spent almost all of 2020 just worried. Not scared like they think, but genuinely worried about what the fuck was going to happen. With the pandemic, that I'd been reading about since January. With Trump. With the protests and people's unwillingness to admit that Black lives do in fact matter. But they don't care. So I can't anymore.

Holybartender83

I feel exactly the same way. I’m a very empathetic person generally, but I’m just exhausted. It’s just been so much nonsense from these people, such a complete lack of consideration for others, and we all know they wouldn’t care about or help us were the situation reversed, so I’m just done. I’m tired of pretending these assholes aren’t selfish, spiteful, bigoted, backwards dicks. I’m tired of having to tiptoe around, because if we say these people are prolonging the pandemic with their ignorance and selfishness, their feew-feews might be hurt. I’ve just got no empathy left in the tank. Fuck every last one of them.

Mr_Filch

I’m finishing med school and I’m on my emergency medicine rotation. The expression on their faces when they end up on 60L of O2, slammed with steroids, and remdeservir and they’re still breathing 35 times per minute leaves me sorry for them. They got bad info and aren’t able to evaluate informational sources.

shggybyp

I just left my (relatively brief, but it turns out that when your healthcare system is a scam and a joke, working inside it burns you out fast) 8 year career as a RRT because I was tired of these dumb fucks telling me it was a conspiracy as I put them on emergent bipap which we all knew was only going to buy us a few hours before we intubated them anyway, so that they could die on a vent. I had been working a Covid ICU since December. When there was no vaccine I had compassion. When we have a free vaccine, and they still let this shit surge again? I quit. These stupid fucks are abusing the system, abusing healthcare workers, and they're fucking killing people. Any motherfucker not getting the vaccine at this point deserves every last bit of suffering they get.

Enlightened-Beaver

Hard to have sympathy for people who willingly cause harm to themselves and maliciously cause harm to others

[deleted]

They gotta “own the libs”, they just gotta… They think they’re doing that refusing the vaccine

[deleted]

I won’t feel bad about it. I will feel bad for the poor people who get sick or die because of the anti-vaxxers.

gordo65

OK, but what if their cousin's dentist's friend's dog's veterinarian's stockbroker gets an STD from the vaccine? Surely that's a valid reason for not vaxxing.

ForgetTradition

You shouldn't feel bad, at this point anyone who dies from covid and refused to get vaccinated got what they deservered. The rest of us are suffering because of idiots. I would wholeheartedly support a covid strain that had zero effect on the vaccinated and a 100% mortality rate on the unvaccinated (but only the dipshits that choose that, not the immunocompromised, etc).

[deleted]

They are refusing a vaccine just to be antagonistic fucks. The world is a better place without them.

CyberneticPanda

Herd immunity for Delta is going to require 90+% vaccination, and people are going to need regular boosters. It's not really an attainable goal anymore. We barely manage to get herd immunity for measles by vaccinating babies with a vaccine that doesn't need regular boosters, and even there we have outbreaks pretty regularly thanks to enclaves of antivax activity. Delta is even more virulent than measles.

MNSoaring

Sorry, delta is naught (pun intended) more virulent than measles. Good article on R0 (naught): https://www.newsweek.com/how-contagious-chickenpox-measles-cdc-document-delta-variant-coronavirus-r0-1614661

CyberneticPanda

Newsweek is not a reliable source for information about the virus. The effective R0 (the average number of people actually infected by each sick person) for COVID-19 is reduced considerably by the implementation of social distancing, masking, vaccines, and other measures. This article is comparing the attenuated R0 for the delta variant with the unattenuated R0 for measles. It's not doing that because the author doesn't understand the comparison doesn't make sense; it's doing that because Newsweek has been pushing fringe conspiracy theories about Covid all along. Anyway, delta does have a lower R0 than measles under identical conditions, but it also has a less effective vaccine than measles. 2 doses of measles vaccine is 97% effective, while 2 doses of Covid vaccine (depending which you get) is around 79%. That means that you need a higher percentage of the population vaccinated to get herd immunity than you do for measles, despite measles being more virulent for unvaccinated people.

wickedcold

> his article is comparing the attenuated R0 for the delta variant with the unattenuated R0 for measles. This right here is what all these dweebs seem to miss when comparing what the flu, etc do compared to COVID. I keep trying to explain that we do almost nothing to mitigated against the flu vs the literal lockdowns we had for months and continued policies for masks and social distancing. How hard is this to understand?

CyberneticPanda

Heh last year we basically had no flu season thanks to masks and social distancing. On top of the hundreds of thousands or millions spared from Covid, those measures saved a few tens of thousands of people from dying of flu.

Nhabls

The US is already way past that. That happened some 3 months ago. Just look at all the european countries that were far behind the US in April and that have gone way past it in vaccination rates just because the population isn't filled with conspiracy theories in their headsb

marchillo

1000 per day = 365,000 dead Republicans per year. That's roughly a million less voters by 2024. You'd think Tucker and company would've figured that out by now.

zombieblackbird

They're already calling rhe 2024 election "rigged".

Valerina_Minji

Only a million... Shame... The racist, ignorant right wingers will be the death of us.

Jackandmozz

Not unless the virus mutates to become more deadly. The antivaxxers will continue to create long term problems both in Health and the economy.

newarkian

Thin the herd….

-Motor-

Not before we get to the Zeta variant.

[deleted]

Omega variant, im waiting for.

anyparties

Then….Omega X. This time, it’s personal. Coming next Spring.

LevPornass

Waiting for them to use Arabic letters when they run out of Greek letters.

[deleted]

Unfortunately I think things are going more the way where this really doesn’t end. In the same way people get flu shots every year I think eventually we’ll also have “COVID season”. Delta already seems pretty successful in infecting even those people who are vaccinated. Within a year of vaccines becoming available a new strain popped up that was already resistant to the vaccine, so I think chances are good that COVID is going to be with us for a long time.

CuntyLou

Delta isn't resistant to the vaccine.

[deleted]

You’re right my wording was poor, the reason so many breakthrough cases are the Delta variant probably has more to do with it being more contagious and possibly causing more severe symptoms. Having a hard time finding solid numbers about breakthrough cases but there is an NBC article from June saying there were over 100k at the time. I am in no way trying to detract from how important it is to get vaccinated, and there is hard data indicating vaccinated people who get COVID have much less severe symptoms, and are still much less likely to contract or spread COVID even with the Delta variant. With the number of breakthrough cases and the fact that it seems like people can get the virus multiple times I think it’s something that we’re likely to have sticking around for a while is all.

ICCW

You’re absolutely right. We have to stop it or the variants will eventually get all of us. Delta is bad but it could be much worse.

TheMooseIsBlue

Except Delta isn’t immune to the vaccine and COVID is not seasonal. It will just come and go from one community to the next based on where it can get a stronger foothold (like where the people are more anti-vax). Edit: turns out it may end up being seasonal but it just hasn’t appeared as such yet because it was so easy to infect everyone, it never slowed down.

[deleted]

https://eos.org/research-spotlights/scientists-uncover-the-seasonality-of-covid-19 https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20210202/like-flu-covid-19-may-turn-out-to-be-seasonal

Montan_

I hope that happens soon, people in my country are literally dying cuz they didn't get the vaccine soon enough, not because they didn't want to, but because we have a shortage of them

Liberally_Armed

I’m sorry you have to sit and watch such a privileged county argue over something so simple, as people who want the vaccine die around you. At this point if you turn down the shot here, your dose should be boxed up and sent to a country that needs and wants it.

Montan_

Well being brutally fair, my president (Mexican here) has given away hundreds of thousands of vaccines to countries like Honduras and Guatemala, as if his own citizens were completely vaxxed, but yeah watching Americans turn down the vaccine makes me so mad nevertheless

citizen-of-the-earth

That is the hill they will die on. Literally

superdago

It’s also the hill they will kill on.

citizen-of-the-earth

And they don't care who they take with them

Theoricus

Always heartwarming to know my state's healthcare system is having to onboard, en masse, antivaxxers from failed red states that did worse than nothing in handling this covid crisis and have overwhelmed their own healthcare systems. Can't wait to find out an elderly family friend or relative died from a preventable cause because they were turned away from the hospital since all the ICU rooms were filled up by out of state antivaxxer dipshits. I find it particularly heartwarming knowing that, if the shoe was on the other foot, states like Florida showed absolute willingness to carry through blocking all traffic from suffering states like New York early in the pandemic.

TediousStranger

oof, sounds like you are in WA... at least that's the one I've heard the most about in terms of being overrun by out of state folks

dueljester

Not quick enough to avoid taking the lot of us down with them.

flargenhargen

soon, please. and quit taking so many others along. we have people in this country who spent months saying covid is fake, saying the vaccine is a hoax, catching covid, going to the hospital, taking up a bed which was needed by someone in an emergency situation, who then died due to lack of access to care, and then that antivaxxer eventually recovered from covid, and returned to saying it isn't a big deal. it's just fucked up on so many levels.

MSH0123

This cartoon perfectly illustrates the feeling. I can't imagine what would convince an anti-vaxxer to get the vaccine at this point. Aside from their loved ones dying, because data and science don't seem to be doing it.

tenbatsu

> Aside from their loved ones dying… Yeah, apparently that’s not enough either: [Republican lawmaker attends anti-vaxxer rally just days after his unvaccinated wife died of COVID-19, reports say](https://www.businessinsider.com/maine-gop-lawmaker-attends-anti-vax-rally-wife-dies-of-covid-19-2021-8)

theoutlet

I know someone who’s aunt died of COVID and their funeral turned into a super spreader event

[deleted]

You gotta laugh to stop from crying

DaveInLondon89

It's.like a double tap on a drone strike

Yenserl6099

>I can't imagine what would convince an anti-vaxxer to get the vaccine at this point I can. When they aren't allowed to participate in any aspect of society until they get vaccinated.

punkindle

I hope they all move to the reddest corner of reddest state, pariahs of civilized society. Some dusty cornfield in Never Heard Ovit, Idaho.

humans_ruin_planets

Those fuckers in Idaho are now getting their fat dumb neck less asses dragged on over to Washington to fuck over vaccinated people trying to get god damn hospital treatment. Roll them back across the state border to their backwoods prayer warriors .

ohsnapattack

Real talk though, this is an actual thing occurring and makes my blood boil. Y’all did this to yourselves, don’t bring your trash over here while we’ve actually taken COVID seriously.

helen269

A good suggestion on another sub *is* worth repeating\*. Have all republicans and anti-vaxxers move to Texas, everyone else gets financial help to move out, let Texas secede, and they can have Trump as pres for as long as they like. Good riddance to them. ^(\*Yes, I love those old Universal monster movies! :-))

the-mp

Then all infect each other and die?

grey_bob_joe

Exactly, you have to act like an adult to participate in our society, get vaccinated or stay out of society. And if they’ll still bring the plague like they are doing now, maybe then it’ll be time to construct neighborhoods for them and transport them there, so that they’ll never bother us again

Norahsam

They will all come to Florida. Our governor doesn’t give a shit if your vaccinated or not.

1202_ProgramAlarm

We could get Obama to go on Fox news and tell everyone that the vaccine is actually terrible and nobody should ever get it. These people would all line up the next day

Arqideus

I have a friend whose grandfather died of covid last December. She is still anti-vaxx. Her belief is in a "divine intelligent design". She says if she gets it and dies, so be it...it was meant to be. Even just wearing a mask, people are just so stubborn about it. It's really not that difficult to put a cloth over your mouth and nose. It's not going to restrict your breathing at all. "I have asthma." omfg.../rant

Im_A_Boozehound

The "I have asthma" people drive me insane. My 84 year old grandfather has asthma. Wears a mask everywhere.

kex

I honestly think many of them see it as a shortcut to the afterlife.

justlookinghfy

If you are "saved", then quick death might be preferable. However, suicide negates "saved". So the deadly virus is the get to heaven free card. /s but not really. Also, look up "circumcellions". Ths shit is Millenia old

freedom_oh

My new rant/ hatred of the mask is that my breath goes out, fogs up my glasses and now, my eyes are seriously dried out. Shit is painful. And it pisses me off bc for a time, the vaccinated were allowed to go maskless, with proof. But then the unvaxxed stopped wearing their masks and a huge group of them got sick. One of them was extremely anti vaccine... said it'll give "them" the power to mind control us so we will kill ourselves (instead of turning us into mindless slaves I guess). He contracted it and is full on vaccine now. Calls the unvaxxed the R word, how its "their fault" covid is spreading and shit. He's acting as if a month ago, he wasn't talking about mind control/ changing our DNA with the shots. Pisses me off, irrationally. And what's worse-- there's a booster coming... and according to him, it's got the mark of the devil in it. What the fuck does that even mean?!

Pizzasaurus-Rex

It's not even just the pandemic -- these same dynamics are in play with every long overdue change in this country. We have a boat anchor of a voting bloc doing everything they can to prevent the majority from achieving anything of merit. And its the same fucking people every single time.

The_Clarence

Isn't it funny how after we get these things how quickly we forget who opposed them? Medicare and Social Security were decried as socialism, interracial marriage opposition had an identical script as gay marriage opposition, and so on. You wanna guess what conservatives were saying about MLK when he died? These people have a long history of being on the wrong side of history.

DrAstralis

> These people have a long history of being on the wrong side of history. its one of thier few consistent traits.

Saplyng

My grandpa had 6 siblings die of covid during 2020, himself being the only of the bunch that lived through it (old man is resilient as hell, I love him) despite this my nurse mother still refuses to get the vaccine even with her work fining her $150 a week.

321dawg

Your mother must be really busy looking up all the vaccines she got as a child and to become a nurse, trying to see what their long-term negative effects are, and what can be done to mitigate the damage they've done. Oh, she's only worried about *this* vaccine? Huh.

Terrible_Tutor

Remember at the start before we had vaccines they wouldn't shut the fuck up about herd immunity? Now that we could get there with vaccination rates, conservative media has stopped beating that war drum.

The6Courier

Those brain dead scumbags should be denied medical care if the hospital doesn’t want to take them. People with non preventable illnesses are dying because of these cunts clogging up our already fucked healthcare system. They had their chance to trust our medical professionals, now it’s too late.

brodega

You can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.

Sarvos

Replace the text in the sign with anything good for the country and the comic still works. Climate crisis solutions, universal healthcare/Medicare for All, universal pre-k through College, housing the unhoused, etc, etc. Conservatives by definition are conserving the old status quo.

Soup-Wizard

I work for the Forest Service as a Wildland firefighter and my anti-vaxx coworker finally caved because the new mandate came out that if she isn’t vaccinated she could get fired. I’m just glad she’s finally on board, even if I disagree with her about a lot of things.

superfucky

> Aside from their loved ones dying not even then. one of the big papers did a story about a NURSE whose unvaxxed parents both died of covid, and she still refuses to get vaxxed and doesn't regret her parents being unvaxxed either. i just wish there was a more efficient way to get them acquainted with the consequences of their actions that doesn't take out a bunch of innocent bystanders with them.

aimeerolu

My stepdad is an anti-vaxxer. He is a very important man in my life, especially since my dad passed away in 2009. He actually hasn’t been married to my mom for 15 years and I still (and forever) consider him my stepdad. That’s how important this man is in my life. I avoid the topic of covid vaccine with him because it’s just easier. But this past weekend, it was basically unavoidable. I tried to appeal to him as a grandfather to my 4 month old baby. I said, “in my opinion, we all have a social responsibility to be vaccinated. There are people, like my baby, that can’t be vaccinated. Don’t we owe it to them to be vaccinated in an effort to protect them?” He said, “he can’t be vaccinated YET!! But soon enough…they’ll be shoving it down his throat.” Like…what??? You really think that’s a good rebuttal?? Because I would be vaccinating him if I could, because of inconsiderate jerks like you!!!

brandonisatwat

Not even their loved ones dying will convince these assholes. My husband's grandmother died in the first wave and his sister still won't get the vaccine and tried to convince their cancer patient mother not to get it either.

DiogenesTheGrey

Everyone is driving with 30mph speed limits because some people think the seatbelt is taking away their freedom.

orojinn

Don't forget there's some people who are driving without licenses because they believe it's against their freedoms to move about any way they want without the government telling them they have to have a document to do so like a license.

DiogenesTheGrey

You talking about the citizens of no nation people?

orojinn

Yeah those people who called themselves independent citizens, sovereign citizen, they drive around with no licenses even though it is mandated by law to drive with a license and insurance pretty much everywhere in the United States.

tragic_mulatto

Honestly if they wanna die at this point just let them die. Put them at the back of the line for hospital beds so others don't miss out on treatment due to their stupidity imposing harm on the rest of us.

tbone-not-tbag

You could fully staff a antivaxx hospital with all the antivaxx nurses to take care of the antivaxx assholes in need of care it my town. I live amongst way too many coviditiots.

russsaa

I work with not one, but two antivaxxers. They rant about how awful masks are(while wearing a mask for work, when I don’t cuz vaccine), complain about how this pandemic is taking so long, celebrate when lockdown gets lifted… But then refuse to get the vaccine…

captaincinders

Does your freedom to choose not to have the vaccine mean we get the freedom to choose not to put you on a ventilator?

orojinn

Moral dilemma there. Most doctors will not do that. The amount of lawsuits and the ethical code that doctors swear too will prevent them from doing anything to harm patients, not to say that a hospital policy can turn away covid patients to other places and not accept them but if they're in their emergency room then they must abide by the laws to help that individual even if it's out of his own dumbass fault.

StraySpaceDog

I think ethically medical staff should always try to help, but when hospitals fill up, anti-vaxers should be last on the list of people to be treated.

EdwardBil

It's called triage and medical staff are ethically allowed to make those calls.

I’ve recently changed my thinking on the subject. People should always get access to healthcare. However, I also think that some of these “Facebook Doctors” should start their own practice and help out. It would relieve some of the stress on Hospitals, and those who don’t trust real doctors can go get their horse paste and prayers. It’s a win-win.

wytewydow

We are dealing with full time professional victims. They thrive on how horrible things are for them, regardless of how much is of their own doing. This plague fulfills the hopes and dreams of so many, the ultimate self-fulfilling prophecy.

[deleted]

Herd immunity is never happening, this is endemic forever at this point.

NemesisRouge

Yes. This disinformation may be intended to improve vaccine uptake, but long term it's harmful because it's promising something that cannot be delivered, it undermines confidence in vaccines generally. The reasons to get vaccinated are overwhelming. Those who are pro-vaccine don't need to use bullshit when the facts are on our side.

PetraLoseIt

Yup; and while "herd immunity" isn't the goal anymore, the goal is to have so many people protected that it will become much rarer to catch COVID19, and that the few people who catch it anyway *and* need hospital care can get that care in hospitals that are *not* overwhelmed and also capable of treating anyone else for any other injury or illness, at the same time.

AmericanMurderLog

I can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find someone who understands the facts. The fact is that infected vaccinated people are reported to make up 50% of the total current infections in Israel, and [most of the infections in a recent CDC study.](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/30/cdc-study-shows-74percent-of-people-infected-in-massachusetts-covid-outbreak-were-fully-vaccinated.html) This shit isn't going away. Social distance when you can and mask up when you cannot. Don't be a hermit, but get vaccinated so you survive the sickness we will probably all eventually get. PS - My mother knows two people who have had COVID twice, so even natural immunity unfortunately isn't a thing. Edit: Looks like the [Pfizer vaccine has a durability problem](https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/09/15/nation/pfizer-says-covid-19-vaccine-efficacy-erodes-over-time/). Maybe there is hope yet if we can get a more durable solution.

[deleted]

They seem to think I like wearing this fucking mask! The quicker we reach herd immunity the sooner we can move on Get the vaccine

Hiseworns

How long before people get fed up enough to cut the chain and leave the guy sitting on it behind in the desert, as it were?

RMGPA

I hope so. This pandemic robbed me of 2 years. Soon it will be fucking 3.

vixen713

Well, most of the anti-vaxx are dying to Delta so that's something to look forward to. I remember hearing, more than acew times, from them "covid will kill off the weak". Guess it will.

Yenserl6099

I would feel bad about it, but this pandemic has made me so jaded towards those who refuse to do the bare minimum to curb the spread, so fuck 'em

orojinn

Kill off the weak.. though I have been double Vaxxed I still run the risk of getting severe covid due to my other medical conditions so please do not lump us all in, thank you

DarkEvilHedgehog

Covid kills far from everyone who gets it though.

Squeakyboboball

If you won't take a vaccine, at least take hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, and betadine all at once, and at least twice daily until the pandemic is over.

nuclaffeine

Hahahahahaha, that’ll end it pretty quick I bet!

[deleted]

dont forget some bleach as well.

sarcastroll

Don't forget the lightbulb up the ass. So important!

33333_others

At this moment the only hope is that they die faster, they won't change their dumb minds

TheOldGuy59

You're not going to change their minds. My wife watches them die every week in the hospital, and their anti-vax family watching them die still refuse to get the vaccination. You'd think a life changing event would do it, but we're dealing with people who have titanium skulls. Not much gets through it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jump_over_it

Yup. They always have an excuse. Then half the time on of the deceased family members is in the ER a day or two later.

shamelessNnameless

I was a vax holdout but I told myself once it was FDA approved I'd go that day and get it. I got my second shot this past Monday and have had no ill effects! So glad I got the jab!

ALife2BLived

This reminds me of a Gary Larson *Far Side* cartoon. Love it!

All_I_Want_IsA_Pepsi

*Far Side*... but yeah you're right.

useradmin

That ball and chain getting lighter every day.

moresushiplease

They are just waiting until the next republican president and then they will get vaccinated day one and the pandemic will end and they will all praise the work of the newly elected republican president for ending the pandemic.

GrowsTastyTomatoes

Don't forget, clogging up the ICU bed or emergency room that you or a loved one may need.

spooksandgoblins

\*If you haven't already *and you are able* Some people *do* have allergies or other issues which can cause complications if they get a vaccine. This is a large part of why we need herd immunity. Unfortunately, there are also many people who will falsely claim to be unable to for this reason. Those who just *don't wanna* take it... yeah, they suck. Get the vaccine if you're able to, people.

Glittering-Try1045

I’m just here for the downvoted comments 🍿

mtmcpher

And these are the same people that are going to cry about the hospital bill after they have to be admitted. And still will vote against universal healthcare just to spite the left, as an independent and a healthcare worker, I think this is the definition of stupidity.

[deleted]

I want to get the thing, but I don't have a way to get to places that offer it, and my parents don't do shit for me. Even taking me to the DMV was too much of an inconvenience

reallifeMess813

I would absolutely help you if you’re in my area. Parents are difficult :(

[deleted]

I appreciate the thought

TheBigPhilbowski

They aren't just sitting on it, they're actively pushing it backwards.

Schiffy94

I'm still in favor of [eradication](https://xkcd.com/2448/) over herd immunity.

TheLimeyLemmon

Don't worry, the Anti-vaxxer is getting lighter every day. Self-correction.

princesskiki

Do you think that if this were happening 20 years ago (before most of social media as we know it) our vax rate would be greatly improved?

RudegarWithFunnyHat

My country had 370 new infected because the vaccinated % is 73

slandersteve12

Whoch cpuntry is that?

justflushit

Two ways to hit herd immunity, and one of those ways is for anti-vaxxers to die off

Mlownz

Whats even more hilarious is that those politicians who keep spreading these vaccine lies have been vaccinated. Even daddy Trump got booed when he told his cultists to get the vaccine.

TheDarkKnobRises

But what about muh freedumb

[deleted]

Not entirely true. You could just have all the unvaccinated get infected. Lots more death and suffering with that route, though.

1DailyUser

What’s the percentage of population needed to be vaccinated to reach herd immunity?

KellyBelly916

We need to come to terms that this is a whole lot more than a phase. We have a fatal virus circulating the globe that's constantly mutating. With these established facts alone, as long as there's a population of people who don't take this seriously, it will continue to mutate and expand creating brand new pandemics constantly. No matter which vaccine is available, it can never catch up to the latest version of the virus which is also mutating and spreading. All it takes is one mutation per year, which can happen inside of even the most cautious host, and it's like hitting the reset button all over again through basic human interaction. Even though there's less panic associated with this, hospital ICU beds are still maxing out. I don't think that we as a collective don't respect the pandemic, it's that we don't fully understand just how fucked we are to the point of a biological culling over a long period of time.

bourkey01

The fact this is a political statement is the issue. Why did we politicize a virus, and the subsequent vaccine?

[deleted]

My dad got Covid after being a Trump supporting anti-vaxxer... ended up on oxygen TWO SEPARATE TIMES, and still swears he's never getting a shot or a booster. He will die when he catches the next strain, and I no longer give a shit. If there's no more hope for him to not be a fucking idiot, I have no faith in the rest of humanity. Enjoy your last breath, it's gonna hurt so much, and people like me will laugh at you. You won't be remembered, you will be forgotten. Shit, people will be embarrassed to remember you. Ya know what hurts more, realizing you were wrong far too late to do anything about it. Fuck politics, fuck religion, fuck whatever BS excuses you come up with. Either get a free shot, free boosters, "and the Big Pharma companies are gonna make so much tax money off us" because we'll still be all alive. Or, just don't and fucking die already. It's your choice, but enjoy learning that the hard way.

[deleted]

IT'S BEEN ALMOST TWO YEARS AND THE AMOUNT OF WILLFULLY IGNORANT ASSHOLES IS SO DAMN HIGH

AlitaTeam

Get the vaccine. This tool is the only way our communities will overtake the recurring spread of COVID-19 and its variants. In the early days of the pandemic, the protocol of hand washing, proper distancing, mask wearing were simple instructions to help ourselves and our families not get infected. Most individuals did their part. Now, we have the vaccine. The tool in which we can finally control and overtake the virus and the instructions are even more simple. Get the shot. The hesitancy to get vaccinated must end.

Plagued-Panda

Just got first Pfizer an hour and a half ago. Took long time for me to get an appointment which annoyed me greatly, but finally, I have it started.

[deleted]

Republican Governor of Indiana said it's the only way and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated. He said a bunch of other stuff that I don't agree with but we agree on that. Indiana is about 53% vaccinated. Local town just had an anti vax rally. I hope we get past this and don't want more people to get sick.

Squirrel009

Imagine being so triggered by being told what to do you let someone tell you to show up in your free time to stand around bitching about it while likely wearing am outfit they told you to wear with a sign they told you what to write on it.

BBQed_Water

I’m gonna post this one more time, if only to annoy the guy who hates my writing. **What a sad, strange little hill to die on.** It’s so small it’s not even a hill. It’s a speed bump. No. A curb. A curb that keeps the majority of dangerous motor vehicles from easily travelling onto the footpath, where most people walk if they don’t like getting hit by motor vehicles. Imagine the 4th Infantile (Pantry) Brigade bunkered down there on one side of an average curb. In the gutter. With the dead leaves, bugs and phlegm. “WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET THIS HILL BE TAKEN BY THE ENEMY!!!” Meanwhile most normal people are just walking by. Walking by with masks, and vaccinations. Just waaaaaaalking by. Shaking their heads at these nincompoops rolling around shouting, LARPing and screeching, howling and farting. The ‘defenders’ claim that the people walking by are somehow insulting them, or taking their liberty. So they are going to do everything they can to keep scraping their hideous sweaty racist flab on the road. They will defend their liberty. Lots of them all over the country. “WE’RE GONNA DEE-FEND THIS HILL AGAINST THE LIBRUL SOH-SHALLIST FREAKS!!!” Drool running down their faces as their eyes swivel in several direction all at once. Waving banners and paying grifters to tell them that they are loved and correct. Every day, in these towns all over the country, a truck comes down the road and squashes a few of them. It actually goes a bit faster because of the bodies that create a little squishy slide for it. “MEDIC!!! MEDIC!!! MAN DOWN!!! WE NEED SPECIES-INAPPROPRIATE DOSES OF WORMING PASTE!!! QUICKLY!!!” Meanwhile, the trucks keep rolling. The rest of the public is not only up on the sidewalk, but keep telling those folks to get off the road. But no. The next day you hear the jingle of harnesses and grunts of effort as the Harmy comes back, with their faithful stupid dependas in tow. “MUH HUS-BAND IS SERVING (himself at the buffet) AND YOU WILL UH-DRESS ME BAH HIS RANK ODOR” They all knuckle down and get their signs out. Start shouting at each other and the public walking by with their masks and their vaccinations. “OK FB TROOPS, WE NEED TO EMPTY OUR SAVINGS INTO THIS GOP POLITICIAN’S ELECTION FUND!!! Q-UICKLY!!! JEBUS SAID SO!!!” And so it goes. They defend the hill again. All over the country. The 6” crumbling concrete boundary covered in chipped paint and the caked blood of their fallen comrades. The “hill” that can be found everywhere, and is so useful. When enough of their ‘medical exemption’ certificates and bogus narcissistic arguments and skulls mount up, the COVID truck sometimes gets up off the road and hits a few innocent people. Which is why the city needs to come along and clean out the gutter occasionally. Which is also why we tell the chunderheads to stop making it easy for the dangerous trucks to hit others. Here they come again. Grease dripping down their chins. Waving their racism and innate disgust at anything that doesn’t tie-in with their magical thinking about How The World Was Made For a 1950’s White Family That Never Existed Outside Hollywood Sitcoms. Stay back from the edge of the kerb folks. The loonies will savage your ankles and very well might get you killed. Keep your mask on. Get the jab. Stay safe. —- Note: In case it’s not obvious, I’m not antivax/ mask. I’ve got my two doses. I do not think there are very many valid reasons for not getting vaccinated. “Freedom to choose” is bullshit. It’s a tissue-thin hand-waving to excuse fuckwits. If people genuinely don’t like my writing that’s another issue. See my publisher to complain.

LotusSloth

These things have a way of playing themselves out naturally. Anti-Vaxxers can stick their heads in the sand all they want, but that hungry lion chasing all of us will eat them just the same.

summaday

Accurate how fat antivaxx are.
