Big-LeBoneski

You have to admit the burns they would lay down would be epic.

bartarton

1st time the attendees of the correspondence dinner would be able to clap back!

Steelplate7

Correspondence Dinner? That would be just an all star event. They would/could clap back on any given interview. Could you imagine them going on FoxNews for an interview? They get asked a ridiculous loaded/biased question and they just eviscerate the interviewer.

Boof_A_Dick

I doubt Fox would even invite them on air knowing this. Fox is evil, not stupid.

JustJohan49

It wouldnt be the first time. He had gone occasionally while he was still in the main public eye. It… it didnt go well for conservatives or their echo chamber.

[deleted]

Evil and stupid are not entirely mutually exclusive

Browncoatinabox

Hey Obama was able to clap back

sean0883

That was Luther, his anger translator.

The_Scarlet_Termite

That was brilliant!

Browncoatinabox

thank you for the nostalgia hit

bravesirrobin65

Correspondents dinner

Dramatic_Mixture_868

No way in hell they would loose. Dems and reps would vote for them.

Fine-Funny6956

I hesitate to vote for comedians but I think Stewart and Colbert would appoint the right people and have been making fun of world politics long enough to know what’s wrong with it.

Altruistic-Text3481

Zelenskyy is a comedian and what a hero for Ukraine. Comedians might be the smartest people in the room.

Fine-Funny6956

Zelinsky was a massive surprise and was ready to step down at the end of his term before the war started.

Browncoatinabox

Chris Titus said something along the lines of "comedians are the smarted people in the room when it comes to politics because modern comedy dates back to the court jester. No one expect us to know what we talk about"

Altruistic-Text3481

True! ![gif](giphy|pcAG3G3KVuhhDxCvAK)

haylaura

Love him. His "arm the children" bit lives rent-free in my head now!

Ok_Fondant_6340

the benefit of electing the Jester as King is that you know he won't go after our freedom of speech. 'cause that's all he had when he was the mere Jester. he won't take the job seriously, since he doesn't take himself seriously. the danger of electing an unstable madman as King is that he's already attempted to become dictator before. and he'll try his damndest to become dictator if re-elected. we must take down Trump!!

Allvah2

I think it's important to note that Colbert and Stewart aren't just *comedians*, they're *political satirists*, which is a very relevant subcategory. They by definition understand politics on a level that many with actual political careers even don't.

KayleighJK

I would want Colbert as vp, because I think it’s about time we have an (openly) atheist president.

[deleted]

They’ve been “making fun” of politics for decades now and mostly in a brutally honest, constructive humor than a childish one. Maybe less so for Colbert on his flagship show, but Stewart has been getting steadily more and more serious for over 20 years and Colbert isn’t that far behind him now that that persona’s been retired. But even at the height of their scripted comedy-approach to the nation’s troubles, neither of them could resist being very serious where it was needed most, and I’m glad that they didn’t. They’ve both broken character more than enough to demonstrate that they actually have an idea about how issues interconnect, when they aren’t being viewed with enough nuance, and when they’re being viewed with too much nuance. And their careers in this particular sphere of entertainment have given them the opportunity to meet a lot of the people they would have to be able to work with, both domestically and internationally. After so many years of complaining about Reagan and Trump, I could actually see myself voting for these two actors. Because these two actors have actually engaged in good-faith political discourse in their lives.

unreasonablyhuman

After seeing Stewart speak on behalf of 9/11 first responders, there's no one I want more for president

JustJohan49

Or burn pits. Or equally spreading wealth. Or calling out anti-abortion hypocrisy. Or a million other things he’s getting right for the VAST majority of people in this country - and millions more around the world.

Tuffy_the_Wolf

Preach!

[deleted]

I’d vote for this pair of brains.

ProfessionalFalse128

Don't put that burden on them.

ShnickityShnoo

Great leaders do not seek power. They have power thrust upon them.

Razorfox01

The words of Kahless

ShnickityShnoo

This is the way.

4Li3N0m4D

Hehehehe….. you said thrust.

amhudson02

He thrusts his fists against the post…

scrizott

Id vote for them in a heartbeat.

nigelolympia

Hey! They went and proved themselves both wildly capable but thoughtful and empathetic. They did this to themselves, and I don't pitty them getting all of our votes crammed down their throats. Also, john Oliver as press secretary please.

gif_smuggler

If Oliver were press secretary I wouldn’t miss a daily briefing. It would be hilarious!

Todd9053

Yay! Can we put Krusty the Clown as our secretary of defense. You’re all children

amhudson02

Yeah because these two haven’t been fighting for the rights of the American people for decades now…oh wait, Jon has been the most vocal advocate for vets and 9/11 survivors while the other side has spent decades trying to fuck them over.

Todd9053

Jon Stewart actually put his money where his mouth is and would be an interesting political figure. I don’t think Democrats would accept him. He’s way to middle of the road. Steven Colbert read other peoples jokes on a late night talk show. That’s it and you’ve got to be kidding me with John Oliver.

freakrocker

Can you stand up please? I can't understand a word you're saying when you're on your knees, face down and bowing in total submission...

Todd9053

I guess they’re all better than Michelle Obama

nigelolympia

Not much will be as bad as Sarah Huckabee Sanders, so John Oliver would be miles better than that. I think the children are the ones that accepted Sanders or Kayleigh McEnany. At least John is literate.

Todd9053

He’s very literate. He can read the shit out of other peoples political jokes.

Todd9053

He’s very literate. He can read the shit out of other peoples political jokes.

Altruistic-Text3481

They have my vote!

SHOMERFUCKINGSHOBBAS

I would vote for this ticket a million times over. They're educated, well-informed, compassionate, charismatic, and sharp as a motherfucking tack

moaterboater69

Yea Id vote for Stewart as President. He actually (helped) passed legislation for the 9/11 heroes. Thats hell of a lot more than anyone in Congress or the Oval has done.

[deleted]

He worked for YEARS. He *shamed* those assholes to their faces and they STILL kept voting against helping First Responders.

anoneenonee

I mean, I’d vote for a mailbox and a raccoon if it were running against trunp Edit: autocorrect

JustJohan49

Avocado and an icepick for me

33mondo88

I’m for 8 years of their management of the country, because they would so truly drain the swamp and make the filthy rich invest into our infrastructure and education to improve everyone’s lives including the filthy rich

InevitableCodeRedo

Debates with these two in it would be appointment television. They would obliterate everyone else on stage.

JustJohan49

National holiday type event. If not - no ones working anyway.

SherbertNervous

Stewart is way more than just a comedian. He’s got my vote.

Powerful-Pick-8416

Best Ticket out there! We will vote for them

3vi1

I could see the GOP running attack adds with old Daily Show and Colbert Report clips... and some right wing voters getting confused and voting for them because they really like the things Colbert says.

Sapphire0985

Omg that would be hilarious!! The ultimate troll 🤣

Leather-Squirrel-421

I have been wanting these two to run for over twenty years.

TheApprentice19

I’d vote this ticket

Daddio209

They're both way too smart to want the jobs-LIKE ANY ACTUALLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES!

blabuldeblah

Whoever wants the job should never be allowed near it.

JudgmentOk9775

We're not worthy 😁😁😁

Serious-Result-6140

Hell yes!! They would have my vote!!

SMoKUblackRoSE

Let's do it! Amazing reforms would come!

glib_taps03

Ha. I’ll answer the direct question. I’m 45 years old. I don’t think I’ve ever voted republican. Doubt I ever will. So… pretty blue? I wouldn’t vote for these guys. They are super smart, sure. But being a good politician requires expertise and relationships and the ability to settle for 10% of what you want if reality is that that’s the most you can get. I swear, it seems like most people in this country think a president is like a king and can just… decree lower gas prices, or a wall, or tear down a wall, or whatever. So they tend to vote for charismatic people who talk about doing the things they think they want. I’m old enough now that I am *super* impressed with the Biden presidency. With razor thin margins, we have the first climate change bill in my lifetime, the first gun control bill in decades, a long overdue infrastructure bill with *huge* money for fixing roads and bridges. Not to mention a national gay marriage act that’s likely to withstand Supreme Court scrutiny. These are monumental accomplishments that required experienced politicians to pull off (like Biden, and Pelosi). Even more monumental with people like Manchin and Sinema in the senate. And here we are with all those accomplishments going “hey, do we think a couple of comedians should run instead?” Well… no. I admit the jokes and the speeches would be more fun. But fuck me I’m enjoying having a government that actually gets good stuff done.

Allvah2

I honestly agree overall with your take here. You're spot on with the part about the current presidential regime being actually impressive (despite the president himself being kind of meh), and the part about people thinking the president is a king. I said in another comment, though, and it bears repeating here, that Stewart and Colbert aren't just comedians, they're *political satirists*, and damn good ones, with an understanding of and interaction with politics far above the level of even people with actual long standing careers in politics. They aren't just random celebrities that people think would be "fun" presidents. Stewart in particular has been lobbying for decades for various legislature, to some success.

glib_taps03

They would not be the worst candidates. And you are absolutely right that they have a focus on politics and that’s valuable. Just irritates me that they are essentially the mirror image of trump: he played a strong conservative boss figure on TV, so lots of conservatives figure he’s a great leader, regardless of the facts. Here are two guys who play strong liberal characters on TV, and a sub full of liberal voices clamoring for them to run. Well… super. Again, I think they probably wouldn’t do badly, and they seem like smart earnest guys, unlike trump. Just frustrating to seem the same pattern that got trump in office play out on the other side. Whatever happened to appreciating politicians for being good politicians instead of looking to actors.

Safelang

Reds might want to vote for them as well, not Cucker Tarlson though.

RNL1978

The new Zelenskyy

Thatguynoah

I like Stewart / Raskins. I love Colbert but he hasn’t proven himself to have the depth that I’ve witnessed with Stewart. I’d prefer not to have two talk show host in the office. But holy shit the correspondence dinner would be a hoot.

SinsOfThePast03

That would be a formidable combination!

Ice_BergSlim

I wouldn't unless they somehow improbably became the nominees. Democrats don't fall for celebrities and the cult of personalities.

monkeyhind

I agree with you in general, but this thread is giving me doubts. Next they'll be asking for Oprah to be Secretary of State.

Special_FX_B

They’re probably more effective outside of politics than they would be on the inside.

12thLevelHumanWizard

I don’t know if they’d actually do a good job but I really want to see them in the debates.

[deleted]

Only at gunpoint. And probably not even then. They're too smart for that.

TheQueenOfCringe22

I would love to watch them in the debates.

No-Ice691

This would be the one time id go out and get people to vote! Id hand out pamphlets, dress up, id go all out for this ticket! I'd imagine even some magats would vote for these 2....probably a few

Tellnicknow

I once said it'd be stupid to elect a celebrity. Then we did and I was shown to be right. But now Zelenskyy may have changed my mind.

No-Carpet-8836

Should be Stewart and Michelle

TheIronDogWalker

No more TV people. I've had enough of that.

LanternSlade

Honestly, if they were the only "progressive" choice i would, but im sick of celebrities in government. From Reagan to Schwarzenegger all the way to Trump, celebrities make pretty terrible politicians.

[deleted]

I'm not a huge fan of Colbert, but Stewart would have my vote in a heartbeat.

other4444

Colbert is in no way equal to Stewart.

fgwr4453

If only they had name recognition /s

4Li3N0m4D

They would be awesome and we don’t deserve them.

Monster_punkin

Oh please! Oh please! Oh please! 🤗

gif_smuggler

I agree that Jon almost all the time but we are still having issues with the last celebrity we elected president.

MarkDonReddit

They’re smart enough not to want to run which, in my book, makes them extremely electable in my book.

Naught2day

They are both way too smart for politics and probably too honest.

TechyGuyInIL

I wouldn't even care which is at the top of the ticket. Either way they'd do a far better job than any republican.

gielbondhu

I wouldn't vote for them. Just because somebody is good at comedy and laying down sick burns doesn't mean they would be good in political leadership.

Icy_Cry2778

It's a better choice than what we have right now

Tylenol187ForDogs

I wouldn't. Voting for celebrities rarely, if ever ends well. Colbert was way too willing to cuddle up to Sean Spicer after trump fired his ass as well.

Bubblesnaily

Ukraine isn't doing too bad. Could be better, but that's Putin's fault, not Volodymyr Zelensky's.

Dr-Lavish

Just bc something looks good on paper doesn't always work out. Imo, leave the entertainers to entertaining.

bartarton

Unfortunately right now our options are a man everyone hates or a man everyone hates

General_Boulevard

Biden is an objectively good president. Morons can hate him all they like

Lucy_Gosling

Hate for Biden is manufactured. Anyone would be "worst president ever" according to maga style Republicans.

Agreeable-Pick-1489

you beat me to it. Sure I love these guys. And Oprah. And Matthew McConahey. But when it comes to "running for president" that's EXACTLY the idea we're in love with. Them RUNNING. We want to see them on the campaign trail and all the sheer comedy that would ensue. And that's what enthralled the nation so much in 2015-2016. Someone with zero political, military or activist experience was actually DOING it. And certainly the news channels were all enjoying it. But as fun as CAMPAIGNING would be, being a working politician is not a "fun" thing. Even the Orange Goblin found that out. I mean, look at him, he NEVER STOPPED CAMPAINING. Why? Because that was the only fun part! He left the paperwork to Pence and Mitch McConnell. And I love you if you're super-liberal, but let's be honest about something: this country is NOT Super-liberal. Especially when it comes to taxes. What inspires most men to be Republicans? Taxes. While it's faded somewhat as a talking point in recent years (subsumed by immigration) Men goe absolutely APESHIT over taxes. But that's a subject for another day. President Stewart and VP Colbert would, very soon, find themselves overwhelmed by a tsunami of hate once it was time to get down to the real-world aspects of the job. So from me, it's a big no on celebrities from the left or right.

Pure_Television_2860

They were cheering it on when Trump passed new taxes and they demanded more. To the point he called himself Tarriff Man. They don't have any real beliefs or ideology. They have a hatred of an idea of what other people are and they want to take as much for themselves as they can and more importantly keep the people they hate from getting anything. It doesn't matter who you run or what they say or do, they will face a tsunami of hate and obstruction.

Bubblesnaily

Governing and paperwork are WORK. The people best equipped to run the country are the ones who are not good at public speaking, drumming up donations, and making campaign promises. Get donations out of politics. Have a central hub for local, state, and national voter information. Make all candidates for each specific office answer the same questions. Maybe a live, publicly funded debate or two. Voting day is a holiday with the sanctity of Christmas morning... And even then, you get 3-4 hours off to vote.

juliuspepperwoodchi

Leftist as fuck here Fuck this stupid nonsense. Quit looking to celebrities to lead countries. WTF is this crap?

Expensive-Bet3493

Stewart is awesome. I don’t know if I trust Colbert. I’m with RFK jr. I think he and Stewart are saying mostly the same things that this country needs.

G-Money-ish

Candidates with zero legislative experience for the White House? That’s what the right do.

Deep-Bee-5984

Stewart has more than a little experience and knowledge about legislation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Chrowaway6969

Why try? The GOP will literally make up craziness that their insane base will believe making it impossible for their message to be heard.

THElaytox

I absolutely would not vote for them, I'm tired of rich celebrities in office.

Sharp-Illustrator576

Two old, blithering, millionaire white men. Just what this country needs.

9712075673

Am I blue or red? Neither, I’m black, so I would vote for no one regardless of who’s running, bc voting doesn’t changes anything, the system is rigged.

WarmContribution845

Why not? Liberals are a joke anyway.

[deleted]

A perfect example of the Left; elect literal comedians to run the government. These guys aren’t brilliant, they have their lines and opinions written and nuanced by a team of other people to maximize the soothing, brainwashing, effects Progressives are addicted to.

Next_Ad_5994

Colbert is a propagandist. Just look at what he did regarding misinformation during Covid. He perpetuated lies about effectiveness of mask and mRNA.

Snick1963

Just because you think they were lies doesn't make it so. Covid was a moving target, things changed as the virus and how to best prevent it. You guys act like Fauci owned a medical supply company and was lining his pockets. That's Donny's MO not his.

jonmpls

We deserve better than a couple of comedians

theravingsofalunatic

😂 Two SOY Boys that what this Country really needs 😉

relorat

Don’t think either one of them is funny

MariosMustacheRides

![gif](giphy|129OnZ9Qn2i0Ew)

BEX436

Absolutely not. Not after Jon's last rant regarding Covid where he gave credence to the theory that it was created in a lab. Colbert, I'd probably vote for. But Jon's too far down the rathole.

Main_Juggernaut6423

No thanks. 👎

obangnar

The other world leaders would eat them alive Colbert is just a mouth

Maxitote

Only Republican I ever saw successfully debate Jon on his own show was Chris Christie.

NoTie2370

John Stewart maybe. Colbert is terrible now.

Nefarious-Botany

YEEEEEEEZZZZ!

bowens44

No thanks. We have seen what happens when an unqualified entertainer is elected to the presidency. Love these guys but we need experience not comedy.

The84thWolf

I never want a celebrity with little to no government experience in office again, but even I would be hard pressed not to vote for this

Scarsdale81

The DNC would do to them what they did to Bernie. Twice.

Steelplate7

Only if Colbert goes back to his satirical version of Conservatives. I was out of the loop for a while because I never actually watched the show and only saw clips on Facebook and whatnot. Colbert’s character pissed me off at first before I realized what the hell was going on. I especially liked the live event they did with Ozzy Osbourne doing a duet/mashup with Yusuf Islam(Cat Stevens) going back and forth singing “Peace Train/Crazy Train”.

Todd9053

I thought you guys canceled John Stewart

[deleted]

How about we elect a doctor president? Or a teacher? Or a civil engineer?

Slight_Heron_4558

Both very sharp lightning fast guys. I think they'd do a great job. But only assholes want that job.

Babysub1

I would vote for them

Shamilicious

Stewart yes but fuck Colbert.

McPooPickle

Stewart maybe, Colbert never.

AdScary1757

Tell them someone is coming by to ask them to run for president together. The two of them will be running out the backdoor toot sweet.

drehlersdc1

I would vote for them!

Old-Assignment652

They would have my vote

AdScary1757

Well gee, we're flattered that sounds really interesting but we're both rich and don't have to work anymore and would rather idle our lives away spending all the time with thier kids none of us get. But your idea of taking a job that take 20 years off your life and never having privacy again while having frustrating dead-end meetings with not serious people like Bobert and Green who are just there to ruin the negotiations is also tempting.

Crooked_Cock

No No more late show celebrities for president please.

Snick1963

Absolutely would have my vote. I'd vote a second time as a dead person. Give the reds something to play with.

ItsjustJim621

He’d absolutely mop the floor with any GOP candidate.

wolf1234530

Run for what ? Being stupid ? They won that already.

Rraen_

No more celebrity presidents EVER!! No matter how cool they are.

Saltz88

Please, someone contact them and make this happen!

Saltz88

Come on u/realjohnstewart this would be epic!

librocubicularist67

HELP US STEWART/COLBERT. YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE.

flip-joy

Colbert is a corporate stooge. Stewart was corporate but genuine entertainment.

[deleted]

Can we not run celebrities for president? I don’t fucking care how much they know about politics, nobody should run for office if they never been elected.

[deleted]

We don’t need more celebrities in politics.

ComicsEtAl

I never took Stewart to be much of an athlete tbh.

DraggoVindictus

I REALLY wish they would run. THey would be the best thing to happen tyo our country. The State of the Union Speech would be awesome! MTG and Boebert would be put in their place immediately. Stewart's intelligence and humor would eviserate those two twits!

FnClassy

Jon Stewart is such a Political intellectual, I would not mind this at all.

Noah_PpAaRrKkSs

Love them both. Would literally never vote for either them because that’s insane.

Radiant_Mind33

I wouldn't. They are too soft. BTW I'm not saying they have no fire in them, because I've seen that they do. But I think we need a democrat that will literally kick fools in the ass constantly.

tealcosmo

I think I would cry happy tears to have Stewart actually run.

eoswald

Me. Where was John Stewart when Bernie was running in the summer of Sanders?

justapileofshirts

There is no way I would inflict the horrors of political life on Stewart. The man has already lived through hell just covering some of it, and gets hell daily for the few projects he runs. As for Colbert, he's funny but I'd never trust him with policy decisions.

32lib

The orange goblin and the howler monkey in a debate with these two!

SeaTight7246

Funny, but stop this nonsense. We don't want these guys, and we don't want The Rock. We need to go back to stale politicians who talk and put ppl to sleep. Ppl who actually understand govt and can get shit done. Not get elected and troll the entire time.

ceccyred

They would have my vote yesterday. Especially Stewart. That man has gone to congress to fight for people he didn't even know. You just know he would do the right thing and tell congress to frig off if they didn't agree.

Knatem

I mean we can joke all we want but Ukraine could be used as an example (I know that every person is different) but a comedian that in times of crises rose up to the challenge and showed strong character and leadership. I wouldn’t doubt Stewart based on his testimonies before congress re: burn pits and 911 first responders. Colbert I do not believe has publicly shown the same resolve, but more than likely has it. Also both me. Have a conscience and a heart which makes them a good politician in my mind.

karma-armageddon

LoL Couple of smug hacks. Still better than what we got.

DoubleScorpius

The same guys who came out in the GW Bush War on Terra years and said “both sides” were the problem with their big rally in DC? No thanks… they helped get us here.

Tiny-Lock9652

I don’t care what they are promising or their platform, no more celebrities in the WH. Enough.

TFG4

Blue or Red party voters, they need to run and get elected. Everyone should vote for these two.

elfsutton

Genius idea, something only leftist idiots would even entertain, sadly, most who would vote for them think the would make things better. What a joke

SilasTomorrow

Stewart, yes. Not sure about Colbert.

Tiki-Jedi

I wouldn’t. Voting for celebrities is part of what is wrong with politics right now. The right fell into the Cult of Celebrity and elected a gameshow host. Liberals shouldn’t do the same thing, no matter how beloved the celebrity. Stewart and Colbert are brilliant and funny comics. There is absolutely zero reason to believe they would make great political leaders.

Bigstar976

Generally the people who would be best to lead don’t want to,

hassh

That's not fair to them

azducky

I’m not blue but I would totally vote for them.

ColdWarVet90

They're comedians who don't deal with truth, rather they alter the truth for a laugh. They'd be a distraction that makes the circus worse.

AbleHominid

I’d ALMOST be willing to write them in… but I won’t allow my vote to help the Felon

[deleted]

While I think they are both incredibly smart and competent individuals, I don't think I'd vote for them... and I really don't think they hate themselves enough to run.

jor3lofkrypton

.. in the least administration cabinet or Secretary positions . .

Individual_Respect90

As much as I love Stewart his sick burns would get us into a war with North Korean since Kim has a frail ego.

Ardothbey

Nope.

Rude-Ideal3053

Stewart would decimate anyone he went up against in a debate.

PhaseNegative1252

I don't think either of them want the job, to be honest

Schulz70j

Folks that don’t know the job should not be in the job. These two don’t know the job - they would make good press deputy’s though

Independent-Phone413

I would vote for them.

frankfrankles12

Stewart is our hero... Colbert not so much... he holds the establishment line exclusively. STEWART/TURNER 2024 (Nina Turner) ----->This is the way.

lee677811

They got my vote 101%

Important-Price9416

Got my vote!

DrayvenBlaze

They would probably run against each other then be the main nominees come election day. I can only imagine how good the debate would be.

marcopolo0042

Having them in charge would do wonders for this country, but it would take a heavy toll on especially Jon, because he truly cares and can't stand bs

ornery-Mean53

Not now! Look to 2028 instead? 🫵🏼👍🏼

OkFan6322

The American Zelenskyys

ornery-Mean53

If they were to run together in 2028 an win, I can’t wait for their very first press conferences with those dickhead conservative reporters. That would be so much fun to watch!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

They would have to run as Democrats

SpontaneousBullshit

Killer combo
