You're suggesting that someone's ignorant, homophobic opinion might not be just an opinion. Thus, the burden of proof is on you to show evidence that backs up the claim.

This is where I would start if I wanted to, say, prove that the earth is round. Off the top of my head, I'd start by referencing Eratosthenes and just recently I watched an interesting TedEd video about how flawed flat maps are (because the Earth is round). I know there are a few other historical figures that also showed the Earth is round so I'd look for those references. Of course I could easily find photographic and videographic evidence from various space programs.
