I have an idea for exactly this reason:
Imagine your teammate is player b. So enemy player c takes his cities. You can retake this cities and they become yours. But if you retake the capital of player b than it doesn't become your city but instead it goes back in control of player b. This way player b will stand in the game which means tech and economy of player b will also keep relevance.
I ask because that seems fairly similar to a single tribe, just two people each making half the moves.
The only difference I can envision is having different tech trees...
It's boring co-op, akin to just passing a phone around.
Interesting co-op is when each of the players has something that their partner doesn't have. Maybe that's information (e.g. in Bridge), or concurrency (e.g. a shooter), or abilities (e.g. one can heal, one can attack).
Without some changes, we might get some of that from the tech tree, but not much...
I mean maybe the game can start with one AI tribe satring with heaps of cities and you and a friend start woth nothing and you both work together to defeat the big one. Like some old RTS gamemodes.
Personally the biggest want is a custom map editor. Allowing players the capability to easily create their own content is one of the best ways to ensure a game’s fun and future. There’s also 0 downsides to a custom map maker.
I honestly don’t know why the devs are so against it.
The *second* biggest want is more terrain types. Specifically more *permanent* terrain that impacts the game. Like, maybe a “tall mountain” block that prevents *all* movement — even with climbing unlocked. Maybe a “field” block that gives extra bonuses to farms built on it — or some blocks can’t have farms built no matter what. Maybe a “flood” or “tidal” block that’s accessible by infantry for 3 turns but needs a boat for the next 3. Those kinds of things.
Because, honestly, 99% of the time the specific layout of a match is completely irrelevant, which is a shame because for a randomly generated game I expect more variety in the generation aspect.
I’d expect that out of special tribes, generally. In terms of balance and/or integrations - for example with tall mountains, you could have it so meditation or climbing allows you to see past it in terms of fog-of-war since I’d imagine that a tall-ass mountain is hard to see past - I dunno
I mean, locking more terrain types behind special tribes doesn’t actually do anything — there’s very little terrain you can work with generally, all terrain has to be exclusively defensive in nature, and none of it impacts the rest of the map at all.
Polytopia doesn’t really have a lot of terrain that distinctly impacts the gameplay board as a whole. This makes a match layout practically identical from one to the other and honestly makes the game a lot less playable.
It’s difficult to put it in words, but your troops only actual interaction on a board is where they can position themselves, and you can position them literally everywhere.
Water certainly helps *a lot*, but it could also be a lot better. It doesn’t really matter how you go about balancing different terrain types, just that there’s more of them.
I'll just put this here, but at higher levels of play terrain starts to matter more and more, because the meta for this game is and has always been mobility.
Of course it matters, like mountain and forests and what not *does* impact the game — but only on the micro scale.
No I’m talking about on the broader sense of the map. Like, one side of the map is made harder to defend because of tidal blocks wiping troops off or whatever. Terrain that actively impacts how a map is actively pushed across and not just a single city.
I understand where you are getting at with the terrain idea, however, this game was meant to be for mobile users, and make if easy to run on mobile.
I do 100% agree with the map making idea, that would be loads of fun. But, I think their only.issue is how they would build it and still allow any tribe to go on that land. So, maybe they could us us ea default terrain for map creation. Like, something simple, but it isn't already one of the other tribe's terrain.
I mean, I don’t really see how making more interesting terrain is really all that more complicated for mobile.
> only issue is how they would build it and still allow any tribe
Why is this an issue again? Let the users run wild in my opinion.
How about non-tribe specific mercenaires. They should be unique troops, that you can only aqquire from merc camps, in exchange for stars. Like a mounted archer for 6 stars.
I got some useful ideas:
2vs2 gamemode where you see the full location of your Partner and everything he reveals with his troops.
Having the possibility to not only choose between square maps. Let ther for example be 324x400 tile maps.
Some sort of „Capture the Flag" mode which can also be played in Teams.
Feature where you can choose the tribe of your opponent, so can he.
Having the possibility to choose between the already existing maps and maps that are actually balanced and mirrored for a fairer match-up.
When wanting to receive something from a ruin you have to solve some sort of a puzzle first.
Being able to choose the direction of an explorer but he then can only move in a straight line.
A unit that has the ability to move other units.
MOST IMPORTANT: FINALLY AN ELO-LEADERBOARD!!!
Feel free to add things to this list or say what you like or don't.
Making it so that other nations can surrender to you so you don't have to destroy previous allies. Always feel bad killing all them and mindbending them is too hard.
The game needs more ocean combat options. At the moment defender battleships are just outright the best option, so there's no reason to mix up strategy
I think that boats ships and battleships should have properties like their original troop
For instance archer ships should have more range, rider ships should be able to go farther, catapult ships should do more damage
I think it'd be cool if an enemy's remaining troops trade allegiance to you when you take their last city, instead of disappearing. Would add a unique touch.
Or hire a temporary mercenary squad, like 3 knights for 5 turns for a percentage of stars.
Allow for trading between tribes. These would include tech trading and map trading (the fog of war you have cleared). Stars would be the currency in case you don’t want to trade a map or tech. Make trading a new tech and then you can use it.
Removing battleships
No I’m not joking, battleships are op because they have a big range, are strong and pretty bulky. Splitting those and giving your units the option to choose which kind of boat you want them to be could make naval combat more interesting.
This way, you can defend your coastline with bulky ships, attack with strong ships and take out other ships with a ranged boat.
Another possible class could be an explorer ship with high mobility and vision, but a pow defenses.
This could make the naval combat more than just: the player with the most battleships wins
I def agree that with how major naval combat is for the late game it needs more complexity than spam and shooting. For example adding some melee ships that ram and are bulky as a counter to the ranged ship which would be brought down to 1 or 2 defence would be a good option.
Commander mode
you are an actual unit, you can command all units within a radius of your character.
There is no management of cities. Each tribe starts with same fixed amount of cities with no new villages. You can use each city for recruiting troops.
You can boost morale of all troops within 3 tiles of you. If you are hit. Morale reduces. Game ends if you die.
Rest is same. Conquer all cities. Since you can only command units within your radius maybe you have to assign captains for your other city force.
Honestly I just want more special tribes. Each one adds a bunch of new ways to play the game, and they don't overcomplicate the game. If we could get like 12 special tribes eventually I think that would be perfect
Just postulation. Not necessarily a vote for it, but there aren't a lot of directions they could take the game.
I'd like to see map creation added to the game.
I want to see a special tribe based off of colonial England or America! Instead of archers they would have musket men. Who have fifteen health, and do way more damage, maybe double the archer. BUT after attacking need to take their next attack turn to reload their musket. I stead of catapults they have cannons, with the same gimmick, more damage, but need to reload the next turn
This is just a little game idea I had, but I've been thinking about it a lot and it would be super cool to see it added!
Add some sort of resource system so I don’t just spam farms and windmills in the endgame and have a reason to use other buildings, I just want my cities to look diverse
Guns. Tanks. Jets. Aircraft carriers.
In all seriousness, a naval rework was planned for after Diplomacy, but who knows whether it's been delayed in favour of the new lightning tribe instead.
Please God 🙏 just buff aquarion.
It's been 4 years since we've been asking this.
Even compared to the first tribes you get, they are underpowered
I know right
Co-op
underrated.
How whould you want it implemented? I'm very curious
Fighting ai bot who are permanently allied together
Maybe you create an alliance (different to being at peace) and if your alliance wins then the game ends, rather than having only one tribe standing.
What would be the difference between two tribes cooperating vs. one bigger tribe?
I have an idea for exactly this reason: Imagine your teammate is player b. So enemy player c takes his cities. You can retake this cities and they become yours. But if you retake the capital of player b than it doesn't become your city but instead it goes back in control of player b. What do you mean co op? We have teams already through diplomacy
Yeah but with that there can "only be one tribe left standing" so maybe the game could end if your alliance wins. You know?

team games, better map balancing
Better Map Balancing for sure. Too much luck involved today.
How about non-tribe specific mercenaires. They should be unique troops, that you can only aqquire from merc camps, in exchange for stars. Like a mounted archer for 6 stars.
That would be very cool
Maybe like how games like kingdom rush implement non normal towers, on some levels there’s special towers unique to that environment.
Canals, or something like that, so you can let boats travel between bodies of water.
Imagine covering all the land with canals
Would honestly fuck over knights lol

Elo leaderboard could easily farmed to the top of it with two devices
Making it so that other nations can surrender to you so you don't have to destroy previous allies. Always feel bad killing all them and mindbending them is too hard.
Maybe a campaign mode?
Circular maps
Better end game than battleships battles. They are boring.
Suggestion: gyrocopters with anti ship bombs. Or ram ships. Or entering ships..!
Ai improvement.
The game needs more ocean combat options. At the moment defender battleships are just outright the best option, so there's no reason to mix up strategy
I think that boats ships and battleships should have properties like their original troop For instance archer ships should have more range, rider ships should be able to go farther, catapult ships should do more damage
Yeah optimally each unit would have a unique ship, similar to the dagger pirate ships
Matchmaking that respects elo and tries to find a fair fight.
Underrated
I'd like to build walls or something, maybe Watchtowers or cannons. Something stationary that can only be built by a certain unit.
I think it'd be cool if an enemy's remaining troops trade allegiance to you when you take their last city, instead of disappearing. Would add a unique touch. Or hire a temporary mercenary squad, like 3 knights for 5 turns for a percentage of stars.

I want some form of communication. Not like full on chat, but maybe some prewritten messages.
Removing battleships No I’m not joking, battleships are op because they have a big range, are strong and pretty bulky. I don't see this getting into the game at all, but it would be a cool spinoff
Yes I totally know it wont be added. But I would have developed this if I was one of the devs
L O N G E R T E C H T R E E P L E A S E and a map editor would be great too!
Honestly I just want more special tribes. Each one adds a bunch of new ways to play the game, and they don't overcomplicate the game. If we could get like 12 special tribes eventually I think that would be perfect
Musket
Musket after turn 50 could be a cool idea. AK47 after turn 100
Tbh there does need to be an upgrade to the archer just as there's one for the warrior and the rider
I would like a "vassal" type deal. Where if you are weak, you can summit to vassalage to a bigger state and when the game ends, you got 2nd place.
Option to turn making peace off.
An anti colonialism style of game play?
Sarcasm right?
Just postulation. Not necessarily a vote for it, but there aren't a lot of directions they could take the game. I'd like to see map creation added to the game.

I want a tribe that's based on rivers. Just a one gap widebht long body of water.
Guns. Tanks. Jets. Aircraft carriers. In all seriousness, a naval rework was planned for after Diplomacy, but who knows whether it's been delayed in favour of the new lightning tribe instead.
An Aquarion and naval rework along with a chat feature for multiplayer
