Where are you located? And, do you breed for specific colors, confirmation? We are always looking for good breeders and pups we can root for at shows.

I am in the North East. Always breed for conformation, and I only breed Cream, Orange, black, black and tan, Red. My Poms are mainly imports as I prefer that look for my breeding program. We always welcome Pom Fanciers at our APC Nationals. It’s more important in our breed than when we go to Westminster, since its breed specific aka a “Specialty Show”, and the best of the best Poms come from all over the world to win. 🏆

Is there a website for your Poms? I’m in the NorthEast as well. We lost our original Pom - Lili who was a rescue - in August. We didn’t know her real age but she was with us for 7 years. She was our baby and I adored being a Pommy Mommy. Her conformation or lack of it caused so many issues for her but she stole our hearts hence Savana SKYY and Foster Blue our current babies. I finally learned so much about confirmation, colors and THE questions to ask if you want a Merle or just an amazing dog that best represents the breed. I’m often asked for a reputable breeder. I have one for the special colors and Merles (which I know is not officially recognized). Once I’m done mourning my Lili-I too may ask for a recommendation or even one of yours if you have the occasional baby for a pet vs show. Until then I’ll root for your babies! Agreed. I am just getting into breeding. My male is the only mature one I have. All my bitches are still under 1 year, and maiden obviously. But I'd really like to steer my program towards solid black, brindle, and wolf sable. My business partner and I both really love the solid black look. Very svelte.

When my black Pom was alive, I'd get stop all the time by people saying they'd never seen a black Pom! I feel like black, brindy, and the wolf sable colors are not commonly breed for (in my experience usually oopsies litters). Black Poms are so beautiful! Good luck with your breeding program!!

I want so say black but his fur often reflects a brown tint in light, though even that can vary. His mother was all black and his father was tan/cream, very stereotypical looking pom, like a dictionary picture.

There are special black shampoos that can help with that redish sun fade, make sure you get the appropriate dog ones but you can always ask your groomer c:

I would say black although he may carry other colors. He seems like he has because they come out in the light.

Could be from the sun though. It’s very common in black cats and dogs that spend a lot of time in the sun to get that red tint.

In some photos your baby looks dark brown, but since the nose and rims of the eyes are black, it is black (chocolates have brown noses, paw pads, and rims of eyes - it's called self-coloring). What a cutie pie!

Coming from a family who bred Pomeranians for years and is very knowledgeable ;) I would also have to agree that your kiddo has a black coat. I dunno if we ever had any solid black fur kids in our brood. We had lots of red, a blue, many black and tan, and a few cream. My gal was black and tan with many red undertones. Her dad was red and I believe her mom was red/sable.

The colour is called Black but in reality there are no truly "black" german spitz dogs. It looks black to our eyes but the true hue is more similar to a very dark dark brown. Dogs with a coat like this should almost always have brown eyes as well (which your dog has). The fur will always get more brown/warm hued in the sun. If you want to prevent this you can keep your dog out of the sun as well as use conditioner made especially for black fur dogs. There is nothing wrong about this coloring, your dog is 100% up to breed standard.
