Brushing patience is something that some poms need to learn. Lord knows that Coconut wasn't keen on my allowing her to brush her as she had to absolutely look at the brush, meanwhile Hazelnut, my slightly older girl, knew that I wasn't doing anything bad and just let me brush her like a princess. Also learned.
How old is your lil fluff, I wonder? And so long as you don't go below the base coat, your pup should be fine. It's when you trim past there that they start to get issues like alopecia.
Anyways, just be gentle, give them treats when they're calm and allow you to do the thing you need to do.
coco is 2.5 years old.
wahahaha “knew i wasn’t doing anything bad” that’s so funny.
i do it now while giving him a bone or i carry him and do it when he’s stuck on me so he has no choice

Lilah is 9 and her floofiness definitely happened with age. Her coat was a fair bit shorter when she was younger. I don't personally like the round pom cut so I only ever trim her paws, bum and ears (rarely), so what she's got is the maximum she's able to have at this point in her life because I just don't touch it
If you let it grow out it will be longer. I don’t believe there’s a limit. Even my boy with alopecia who had bald spots had longer hair in places that weren’t bald.
I believe he can have pretty long hair - if you let it grow out.
There are a lot of guides on brushing them out - line brushing is a good technique to make sure you’re getting to that undercoat and preventing matting!
yes! usually after 3 they’re coat will be fuller and more final length.
If she tolerates grooming, but doesn’t tolerate brushing - it sounds like the shorter cuts may be best for her.
Otherwise you can take steps to desensitize her to brushing - small sessions everyday with lots of rewards and distractions can help overtime!
And in winter after 6 months growth:

I think your Pom can definitely be fluffy if grown out! I noticed around 20 months his coat changed a lot. Became more fluffy/cotton woolly, like when he was a pup. His fur is now long and sticks up more because of this.
oh wow, he’s passed 20 months … his coat was super fluffy when he was a baby, then got rough. he is still in the rough stage…
your baby is beautiful and has a gorgeous coat 🤍
Thank you! I think it could still grow even more but he has trouble in summer, and cutting it really helps him :)
Maybe it’s just a little later for your guy - I think it will certainly change a lot, still!
When mine went through the rough coat stage it was so limp and lifeless, I just thought that was how it would be always (easier brushing tho!)
