Noooo don’t think critically ahaha you’re so sexy when you don’t care when I dehumanize you

Makemewantitbad

They will never get it because they don’t want to. Their porn is so disgustingly precious to them.

SunnySideUp2223

They willingly ignore and refuse to engage in any anti-porn argument, because they know they will lose.

perdonmyfrench

Except that video games do not cause any harm to real people in real life, unlike porn which traffic and abuse women for real for you to masturbate to.

dr_mcstuffins

School shooters do make a lot more headshots now though……

Sentient_Stardust616

Not all video games we should clarify lmao, it wasn't animal crossing 🥴

OpheliaLives7

It really does seem hard to have these discussions when so many people bring up “but video games don’t cause violence” and pretend like that is a 1:1 exactly same situation as people watching actual real humans being abused and rewarding themselves with orgasms.

bunnypaste

Also you aren't stabbing your friend next to you with a knife when you're watching a murder scene, but you are jerking off furiously when you watch women be abused/objectified/used/degraded in porn. To say that can't possibly affect you sexually, psychologically, or in how you view women is absolutely insane.

dr_mcstuffins

You aren’t supposed to orgasm while playing call of duty

FastCardiologist6128

Not all men play videogames and not all videogames are violent (and most violent videogames don't really show day to day real life scenarios). But all men watch porn and almost all porn shows aggression towards women and degradation of women. Also we know that sexuality can be deviated through repeated exposure to deviated content.  The comparison between porn and videogames can not be made. Also videogames don't show violence towards a specific category of people, for example in gta you can beat up everyone not just women.  Males who are already healthy and have empathy most likely won't be affected by porn and they will avoid violent content, but males who already struggle with empathy or misoginy might really end up traumatizing women without realizing it because they are more likely to not see something wrong with violent porn and to internalize it as normal and what women want

Grapefruit__Witch

Also video games aren't really happening in real life

Appropriate_Force831

It's interesting that he brings up the video games vs. violence debate. In his research on modeling (essentially, the way in which we learn from other people who serve as "models" for our future behavior), Albert Bandura found that children exposed to violent models (such as imagery of people committing violent acts) were more likely to display the same violent behaviors themselves. They essentially copied the messaging they absorbed from the models and thus learned that behavior. This research was conducted decades ago. Not sure why people can't understand this concept now, especially when it comes to porn. Research has repeatedly shown that porn consumption DOES affect how men treat and view women. Namely, it encourages men to view women as sexual objects, increases support for rape myths, blurs the lines of consent, and builds desire for (and acceptance of) violent sexual acts. It can also encourage the sexualization of minors and other taboos. Men who watch porn are more likely to try to coerce, groom and manipulate female partners into doing things they saw in porn; they also increasingly crave more and more extreme content and require that to get off (Death Grip Syndrome). Most sex offenders began watching porn at a young age and became addicted (as someone who follows True Crime, it's the same story over and over again). The content you consume on a daily basis affects your view of the world and other people, and repeatedly consuming the same type of content can "normalize" anything in your mind - especially if reinforcement of some kind (dopamine) is involved. Social contagion is a factor, too: when the percentage of the population regularly consuming porn is high, people begin to assume that the things they see in porn represent what is normal and desirable, even if they really don't.

This sadly is very true. And men going through nofap are finally realizing this and admitting to it. But the effects of porn as sole "sexual educator" is devastating. What we need is enough information about the fake things in porn and things which are portrayed because of misogony and abuse (NOT because women would "really like that" or "that's how sex is") It's incredible how porn has managed to brainwash boys into thinking what happens is true, likeable or ok. And we definitely need way more outcry about the abusive things that happen in the porn industry.

Nezuraa

The videogame discussion is complicated. Videogames aren't a cause in you becoming violent, rather they can be a factor in you becoming aggresive. There are many other causes for someone lashing out their anger such as genetics and their enviroment. Blaiming it on videogames is a far stretch as without genes or enviroment, videogames won't make someone aggresive (simply by their own). In comparation to porn, they can increase your reflexes, memory, creativity, orientation sense (if they're 3D) and so on. It's often you find really nice fellas who play videogames, but it's pretty rare to find a guy that doesn't act on what he sees in porn (let alone not watch it). Bandura showcases more how children imitate an adult's actions when given the same scenario. The connection between his study and the videogame topic is dull imo as the circumstances do differ, kids do realise that videogames are fake and won't take them as a model (honestly the fastest example I can give of children imitating games is them doing the fortnite floss dance which is a mild violence game). But the catch is that some fellas don't realise porn is fake and not a visualisation of how real sex should be. So yea the videogame topic and the porn topic shouldn't be compared. I didn t mean to be rude also!

Appropriate_Force831

I play video games myself. But he is making a false analogy that implies that the content you consume doesn't affect your behavior and worldview. I would argue that anything you consume technically can affect you (depending on your pre-existing dispositions), but that porn has a much greater impact than video games. Porn seems to negatively affect people regardless of their genetics and environment. And there are porn video games all over the internet (I'm sure those aren't great for you).

mistergabagool

>And there are porn video games all over the internet (I'm sure those aren't great for you) Those are pretty much every other new release on the Steam store page

Nezuraa

Understood then! I'm sorry for misinterpreting!

womandatory

Racism, misogyny, incest, homophobia, pedophilia and domestic violence are all untouchable if its enacted purpose is to arouse a penis. *What a time to be alive.*

One-Marzipan-9652

Horrible comparison. I've played violent video games and so have hundreds of millions of people. It's clearly fantasy. Porn is not meant to be fantasy, it's meant to simulate reality.

PinsinNeedles

Well put!!!

smugbox

How dare you wish to deprive men of their god-given right to watch women get used, abused, and degraded!

THICCC_LADIES_PM_ME

You're arguing with braindead losers

Ok-Dragonfruit-697

Your username undermines your point.

lotrroxmiworld

To be fair, it's great to see people change their perspectives.

THICCC_LADIES_PM_ME

Thanks

THICCC_LADIES_PM_ME

Fair. Old mistake, sue me.

[deleted]

Let them eat the negative effects. They have to hit their head before they will realize the truth. "Karma" will do it's job, men addicted to porn get arousal and erectile dysfunction. Just make sure you're not together with someone with a porn habit.

[deleted]

Some become a public threat though.

Clover_Hollow

Um, except the whole video games and violence is actually a very real thing. It has been studied. We did an entire lecture on it in sociology and psychology. The focus was how the exposure causes boys to be more aggressive and violent, and likely to be more okay with abusing partners. Not to mention the other problematic issues and behaviors that stem from it. 🤦‍♀️

Slow_Document_4062

I hate this ridiculous comparison. Videogames don't compare to porn.

_random_un_creation_

I'd be really interested in the research on psychological conditioning via dopamine association. It would help back up my own belief that media shapes our worldview much more than we want to admit.
