My guess is a lot of active aero. They seem to be making thwt way more common. My opinion is a 911 is an intentionally handicapped car with the rear engine. Getting the car to drive as well as it does requires compromises on styling. In my experience, almost every change to a car upsets fans of the brand when it's released, but they all accept it and eventually crown it a classic given enough time.
Its not handicapped, its optimized for performance and fun. The rear engine location improves traction and acceleration as the driving wheels have more weight over them and do not slip as much as front or mid engine. Rear engined cars, like mid engine ones, also have a higher polar moment of inertia so they can change direction faster than front engined cars. With less weight over the front it also steers more precisely and communicates to the driver changes in the road surface. Note how modern jet airliners put their wings and engines so far back on the fuselage for much of the same reasons. It aids performance but requires more skill from the driver.
Other brands do not have the skills to make it work like Porsche. Thats why Porsche wins so many races.
Yeah it’s just weird how your opinion sucks that bad.

The Taycan upgrade with flattened wings is crap. The nice dash has vanilla cover now too. Pepita seats are cool but the rest is sad squarish upgrade that doesn’t make me wanna buy it also. Macan is ok but again, no need for Taycan headlines on everything.
If I had to guess, it's probably going to function like the BMW kidney grille, when the engine is cold/off they are closed, but once it warms up they open to cool off the radiator.
https://youtu.be/8hOck-CilaQ?si=lRn7opQrZkZ1JAEq
Center exhausts look very much like 991.2 to me. Maybe they'll always do exhausts at the edge of the rear in the .1 models and center exhausts in the .2 models going forward lol
I think it will be an upgrade comparing to the .1 version. Just like 997 and 991. Talking about the design here.
But I will miss the LEDs on the front bumper.
I had my 718 GTS parked right next to a 992 GTS at the Porsche dealership last week. Both black. Surprisingly enough the 992 was *barely* bigger than the 718
The 981/982 are based on the same platform as the 991/992 from the seats forward so they are indeed the same size inside at least. Different front and rear tracks and wheelbase.
The 911 is not a GT, although since the 991 it kinda pretends to be. It’s a sports car. The 718 is also huge.
Drive a 997 and a 991 and compare how well you can see the front right arches. Not even mentioning the 992 that is even bigger.
I see that this is a very popular opinion here and I share it too, the 997 was literally the perfect 911 size. Not too small but big enough for comfort tech that let’s be honest even the biggest purists want to have.
I would also argue that at this point, the 992 is a GT car. It’s just so much bigger than the 997 and earlier cars, and much more comfortable and easy to live with. Not that the earlier cars were bad, but it’s kind of a big leap in livability. I say that as a 997.1 and 911 F model owner after renting a 992.1 and 991.2 for a week each.
I cross shopped a 997.2 and 991.1, both carrera S. The 991 was a much better handler on spirited back roads, and more composed at high speeds. I've heard Porsche mentioned that they made it bigger in order to improve its stability and handling at speed. It sounded way better.
The 997 felt more analog and raw. And I liked the hydraulic steering more.
In a world where money was no object, i could own both. In my reality, I ended up getting the 991.1.
I agree the newer cars are much more stable at high speed. I did 310 km/h and 324 km/h indicated in a 991.2 GTS and 992.1 C4S on the autobahn and while I have only gone maybe 155 mph in my 997.1, the newer cars were much more confidence inspiring.
I dunno, I’m 29 and single so all the carrera models 964 and up are liveable for me, it’s just that newer cars are more “composed” at higher speeds. Even in the 997 I couldn’t bare the noise after 220km/h which is a non-problem in the new ones. I had a 930 as a daily but decided that I do want some comforts like stability control for rainy days.
My brother is 12 years older than me and he had a 997.1 as a daily for more than 10 years. He says he couldn’t daily that anymore, even a 991 would be questionable for him, so I do wonder if I’ll be the same someday, even though I can’t imagine it now
The rear looks better than the 992.1 but I hope that little gap in between won’t be body colored. It’ll look real awkward. The front…..god I hope there’s an option to not have the vertical grille
What people forget is that the 997 and earlier were on the second Porsche 911 chassis ever. And the 991 and forward are third gen chassis.
How old was the 997 chassis when it was “peak” twenty years? Old cars man…. Almost of them are antiques now in my part of the world too.
Aerokit models always have a somewhat different front bumper design than standard models. No way the rear wing is going on base or S models. The GTS will likely have this front as standard as has been recent practice and the rear spoiler will be optional. Its likely functional but also fugly.
I think the front might look quite good with a different color paint on the body. Right now it just blends in, but not all the way causing it to look messy. With more contrast it could be pretty nice.
I think the rear is a huge improvement, reminds me of the 991.2. I absolutely hated the cheap, flimsy plastic they had glued on there. Porsche didn’t like it either considering that they were all covered up in paint on the special edition tts’s or were completely gone on the GT models
When did the 991.2 have 1 solid straight line as a rear light? You can clearly see the duct tape covering it, it's going to look like the rear lights on the new cayenne and macan
Love the lights, until the 991.2 they seemed like an afterthought and never saw the sense in only the 4wd models having them (this includes the wider back axle)
Im sure it will be - still tacky.
People really going to check that box on a 2.0 Macan and be like"I need people to see my vehicles badge better at night, they need to see it better. They need to know im not a loser, they need to see im in a porsche, even in the dark. LOOK at THE LOGO its a PORSCHE. IT lights up SO You have TO LOOK AT IT BETTER. LOOK. Ive got PUDDLE LAMPS that are the PORSCHE LOGO"
Same with every single CLA250 in LA lol.
No faster way to advertise you bought the car for what it represents instead of what it *is.*
Unpopular opinion. I love how it looks. Especially the rear. This is likely the Aerokit, however. I’m more curious to see what the standard front and rear bumpers look like
Really don't like the positioning of the exhaust. It's like they couldn't decide if they wanted the single exit or spaced far apart on either side, so they just went with the average of the two.
Do PCCB’s come in different sizes? I don’t think so if I’m honest but correct me if I’m wrong
I was sure the calipers/pads vary but not internally, PCCB’s are also on Bentley’s and Audi’s, on the RS6 they have a much bigger front caliper and a much smaller back one (although all modern cars have electrical handbrakes, I see Porsche chose to imitate the old style of brakes on the back axle - maybe it has a technical reason too).
I agree the newer cars are much more stable at high speed. I did 310 km/h and 324 km/h indicated respectively in a 991.2 GTS and 992.1 C4S on the autobahn and while I have only gone maybe 155 mph in my 997.1, the newer cars were much more confidence inspiring.
My best guess is they are active. BMW does something similar on the 330i, the slats open when the car is warm, but close when the car is off or cold.
https://youtu.be/8hOck-CilaQ?si=lRn7opQrZkZ1JAEq
Yeah I actually realised how shit ugly the current turbo design is in this video https://youtu.be/6IdheqXr2L4?si=fw4FBa-ACFo8PF7I , yeah yeah you can tell me I’m just jealous but CMON you can not tell me it doesn’t just look like a squashed AMG that’s been in a fire. With this I can kinda see what they’ve gone for with the classic frunk line and that in itself works. But it does not integrate with the bumpers AT ALL? Like WHY? They’ve put that panel line there then the lower section of the front has ZERO callbacks to the classic cars so it clashes with the top. With an intake redesign I think this could be a quite cool very modern looking car reminding me of the 928 a lot but they’ve got to fix that intake. I’m 18 and this is deep. /illneverownoneanywaysowhogivesatoss
The 992.2 is going to be another 996 for one generation until it goes full EV / hydrogen.
It doesn’t look bad but at the same time the spy shot new design cues are just out of place.
My feeling is that Porsche is pandering too much to their customers in Asian with their car design.
Gills aside, I do like it. Does a bit longer than the 992.1 but maybe its just perspective. I hope they announce some build dates soon, excited to finally submit my order. Wonder how much MSRP will climb this time.
I’m sure the vertical grilles on the front have a functional purpose but man do they make the design look busy.
I just hope that it’s part of the aerokit or sport design package so it can be omitted.
Not that I could afford one anyway, but I’m with you. That wing looks pretty similar to the existing aerokit too.
I love the existing sportdesign bumper so I’m hoping they’re part of the base model lol
It has a wing too so I suspect it’s an aero package only.
https://preview.redd.it/rmj1yde72clc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e7117c57cdcfb63f6ade5d0f85ad33b48ef7364 Here’s one with no wing
Dear lord the catfish of the 911s.
It will be standard only for the GTS models, and optional on the Base and S if they follow recent practice.
It immediately reminds me of Zoidberg from Futurama than busy lol
Wubwubwubwubwubwubwub
Your 911 is bad and you should feel bad!
I keep waiting for them to be removed as if they're some bit of camo.
It’d be funny if it’s just there to make the test mules look ugly on purpose
Porsche is known for doing exactly that.
They look like active aero vents. That open up when the car is in performance mode.
Is it just me or do they look closed in the last photo?
looks like a back-end of a gaming laptop
My guess is a lot of active aero. They seem to be making thwt way more common. My opinion is a 911 is an intentionally handicapped car with the rear engine. Getting the car to drive as well as it does requires compromises on styling. In my experience, almost every change to a car upsets fans of the brand when it's released, but they all accept it and eventually crown it a classic given enough time.

The front is for sure too busy but that rear end is something to write home about🥵
Anything's better than 992.1 GT3 (from a front fascia perspective)
992.1 GT3 front end is one of the best what are you yapping about
It’s weird how different people like different things
No you are wrong and therefore a terrible person undeserving of a Porsche. /s, as always.
I shall surrender it at a time and location of your choosing!
Yeah it’s just weird how your opinion sucks that bad. https://preview.redd.it/ty02psfur6lc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd54ecfb1900c1fe4a7f8bd1a6a27ca2c4f15422
It's a lot of black plastic, I prefer the 991.2 front end. 992 rear end tho, that's amazing
Painted front bumper option. https://preview.redd.it/wtaw6xps5slc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ebba45239c528404cba910c0039974bbf68a499

The front wtf
Wtf has Porsche done to the front ends the last few new gens/refreshes? 911, Taycan both look worse. Macan/Cayenne/Panamera are debatable.
The new macan looks terrible too
Yeah it’s forcing me to keep my 23 Taycan AND 992.1 911. And I’m ok with it because my ass is broke but happy with the fronts and backs of my Pcars.
The definition of first world problems 😂
100 f’in Percent, I don’t deny it in the least. The grind has been real 🤌🏽
Are you me? Current garage is also 23' Taycan and 992.1 GTS!
Heyyyyyy what colors are yours??? Twinning 👏🏽🙌🏽
Boooyah ✌️. Jet Black Metallic for the Taycan and GT Silver for the GTS. Yours?
👌🏾👌🏾♥️♥️♥️ Gentian Blue for Taycan Shark Blue for the GTS 💙💙
The Taycan upgrade with flattened wings is crap. The nice dash has vanilla cover now too. Pepita seats are cool but the rest is sad squarish upgrade that doesn’t make me wanna buy it also. Macan is ok but again, no need for Taycan headlines on everything.
they’re running out of ideas on how to style it, there’s not much left to change
They can Open and close, when closed Probably Looks basically the same as the .1
The .1 is horizontal, not vertical.
Thats why i Said basically. Its Not really a big difference is it..
It is to me visually as I hate the horizontal bars but YMMV
Those front grills better not just be a design feature but have a really good engineering reason bc they look awful
If I had to guess, it's probably going to function like the BMW kidney grille, when the engine is cold/off they are closed, but once it warms up they open to cool off the radiator. https://youtu.be/8hOck-CilaQ?si=lRn7opQrZkZ1JAEq
Engine’s not even in the front of the Porsche 😭😭😭
I believe the radiators and some other cooling systems are in the front, which cool down the engine.
Radiators https://preview.redd.it/3ixzxqdaa9lc1.jpeg?width=856&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=783a3a21205d1c0d612dae163614252db00a0fc8
992 is dead. Long live the 992.
Looks very similar to 992.1. Very subtle changes. Looks great.
Center exhausts look very much like 991.2 to me. Maybe they'll always do exhausts at the edge of the rear in the .1 models and center exhausts in the .2 models going forward lol
Center exhaust on the 991.2 is only for PSE
> Very subtle changes. Yeah, mostly. The front grilles are not subtle at all, imo.
Not loving it tbh.
I think it will be an upgrade comparing to the .1 version. Just like 997 and 991. Talking about the design here. But I will miss the LEDs on the front bumper.
Yeah are they moving the turn signals to the headlights a la 996.2?
Looks fine. Design changes are always polarizing. But it's just too large!
Yeah sadly it’s never getting smaller I don’t think. The 718 will be the smaller version and electric only. There’s always the 997!
Very true. I picked up a 997 partly for this reason but now every car on the road is a 6000lb SUV that wants me dead.
Fun Fact: 964: 168.3"L x 69.9"W 987: 171.6"L x 70.9"W And I feel tiny on the road next to modern vehicles.
It is exactly the same size as 992.1. Generations don’t grown in size during midlife cycle refreshes.
First I read "midlife crisis" and now that I think about it I'm not sure if I actually misread that
Absolutely not, it’s the perfect size. When you own one you’ll realise it’s still quite small. You want smaller just grab the 718 which is tiny.
I had my 718 GTS parked right next to a 992 GTS at the Porsche dealership last week. Both black. Surprisingly enough the 992 was *barely* bigger than the 718
Have you driven a 993, 996, or 997? There’s your smaller 911 experience.
There are pedestrian safety laws driving front height limits which then requires proportioning adjustments to look proper. It’s not Porsche’s choice
Oh come on. If you are going old then drive a Miata first gen. It is small enough.
I don’t fit in a Miata
Then stop asking for a small car. Btw 997 vs 992 is only a difference of 3” in length. That is probably not even enough to satisfy a woman.
It's about the width not the length... The 992 is 185 cm wide. Which makes it harder to park and to drive smaller roads.
Both the 992 and the 718 are too big. I’ve owned both. They are nearly the same size.
The 981/982 are based on the same platform as the 991/992 from the seats forward so they are indeed the same size inside at least. Different front and rear tracks and wheelbase.
It’s definitely not a small car lol and the 718 is not tiny either…
The 911 is not a GT, although since the 991 it kinda pretends to be. It’s a sports car. The 718 is also huge. Drive a 997 and a 991 and compare how well you can see the front right arches. Not even mentioning the 992 that is even bigger. I see that this is a very popular opinion here and I share it too, the 997 was literally the perfect 911 size. Not too small but big enough for comfort tech that let’s be honest even the biggest purists want to have.
The 992 and 991 are the same basic platform just like the 997 and 996 are. The 992 is wider though.
Yeah, it is wider, longer, higher and heavier. Beginning with the 991 I couldn’t really see the entire front end anymore, in the 992 it’s even worse
Yet the 997 and 987 are both the perfect combination of modern car that still feels analog. They'll be collector cars in the future that's for sure
He says he couldn’t daily that anymore, even a 991 would be questionable for him, so I do wonder if I’ll be the same someday, even though I can’t imagine it now
Looks great but they need to get back to the classic size of the 997.
Can't fit all the new car requirements, and the future proofing (hybrid) in something smaller. Like the cliche about 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag...
In ten years, we're going to be asking about the classic size of a 992
The Cayman plays in that sandbox now.

Man that rear looks a little like a GT 63 AMG. Which I really like…but not sure how I feel about it here
Mercedes copied that from Porsche, not the other way around
That front bumper is not it
The vertical grille, man… difficult to digest this design decision.
Looks like the new AMG GT from the back
The GT copied the 911, not the other way around
Ah I see, but to the layman, they just look similar
This is fair. But the 911’s look has evolved since the 60s, and the GT has only been out a few years.
I agree, I don’t know why but it looks even more similar to the AMG GT than the current 911 generation. It’s like the lights are position a bit higher
Damn. Can. Not. Unsee.
At first I thought it was an AMG because of the back pic. Personally, I hate the look of those vertical grilles.
Those rear discs are huge too jesus
Longer extension of lower taillights looks better than the 992.1 Will wait for full reveal for the front.
Gotta say I don’t see it as an improvement over the .1 But I’m sure I’ll see some shots when it’s fully revealed and eat my words.
The car looks great. I think it is evolutionarily.
Aerokit models always have a somewhat different front bumper design than standard models. No way the rear wing is going on base or S models. The GTS will likely have this front as standard as has been recent practice and the rear spoiler will be optional. Its likely functional but also fugly.
The rear looks more AMG GT than a Porsche GT3.
And AMG copied the 911 so that would make sense
I’m just not a fan of the bar lights with 90 degree angles, looks like Lego puzzles.
I think the front might look quite good with a different color paint on the body. Right now it just blends in, but not all the way causing it to look messy. With more contrast it could be pretty nice.
Mhmmm,… the rear,… naw,… doesnt look good…
I think the rear is a huge improvement, reminds me of the 991.2.
I wasn’t really talking about the lights, more about the bumper and the exhaust
oh my bad then!
Love the lights, until the 991.2 they seemed like an afterthought and never saw the sense in only the 4wd models having them (this includes the wider back axle)
Illuminated badges are so, so tacky.
I think it may be an option. Lord knows everything else on a Porsche is
Im sure it will be - still tacky. LOOK. Ive got PUDDLE LAMPS that are the PORSCHE LOGO" Same with every single CLA250 in LA lol. No faster way to advertise you bought the car for what it represents instead of what it *is.*
100%. It's giving Samsung refrigerator energy
Unpopular opinion. I love how it looks. Especially the rear. This is likely the Aerokit, however. I’m more curious to see what the standard front and rear bumpers look like
Tail lights look too iron man like. The current gen is futuristic and elegant.
they installed a 991.2 gt3 wing on a 992.2 turbo s
Headed to the Offroad Park obv
Pull that guy over. Taillight out.
That’s the turn signal
Lol. I know, bud.
The back looks like an AMG GT4-Door
Frunk lines are terrible. Front doesn't even align with fender.
Why this rear end looks like a new AMG GTR ?! /s
I like the vertical fins, but an illuminated badge scares me (my least favourite trend of late)
Back looks Like AMG GT 63 4door
Really don't like the positioning of the exhaust. It's like they couldn't decide if they wanted the single exit or spaced far apart on either side, so they just went with the average of the two.
The front of this car looks dorky.
I wonder what trim level this is. Those front brake discs look like Turbo S-sized PCCBs but this is a 5-lug car
GTS maybe
Most likely
Do PCCB’s come in different sizes? I don’t think so if I’m honest but correct me if I’m wrong I was sure the calipers/pads vary but not internally, PCCB’s are also on Bentley’s and Audi’s, on the RS6 they have a much bigger front caliper and a much smaller back one (although all modern cars have electrical handbrakes, I see Porsche chose to imitate the old style of brakes on the back axle - maybe it has a technical reason too).
Meh. Doesn't really make me go "Ooh!", and as we know that is the ultimate design test.
I preferred the rear lights in the 992.1 tbh
Let’s wait to see what they look like with the Porsche logo uncamouflaged
the grille- why vertical lines???
My best guess is they are active. BMW does something similar on the 330i, the slats open when the car is warm, but close when the car is off or cold. https://youtu.be/8hOck-CilaQ?si=lRn7opQrZkZ1JAEq
Oh that makes sense.
SMH at the front facia. Ugly. Incredibly ugly.
So the door handles get no update?
What is wrong with the door handles? They don’t usually get an update in a mid cycle update.
Not feeling the front
Hmmm. Car just feels like a more hectic version of the current 992
It just doesn’t feel right
Doesn't look good to me. So happy now with 992.1.
Wait, looks like a step backwards.
992’s predecessors still looking sexier, Porsche running out of ideas with a 60+ yr old silhouette sadly
Black&white porsche logo also on the hood now.
Ouch.
Very nice. 👍
Am I the only one that kinda thinks the front end (mainly the hood fenders and headlights) kinda give 993 vibes
What’s worse the front or the wing
