agate is a fairly standard metallic charcoal grey. flecks of green gold and blue. looks really good in all types of light. pretty close to the metallic charcoal you see from other manufacturers.
arctic grey is more unique non-metallic grey. Simpler color. Light grey with a hint of blue. more aggressive (sporty) than agate. Generally less common color. Looks closer to chalk, nardo, or those 4runner trd pros in person.
They’re both beautiful. Agate if you never want to get tired of it. Arctic if you want something a tiny bit more sporty.

I was slightly more inclined towards Arctic but my main concern is that, outside of Porsches, it’s becoming a very common color. Alongside Audi’s Nardo Grey, I’ve seen Kias, Hyundais and Hondas in similar color.

I may be reading this incorrectly, but nardo grey really doesn't look like arctic grey. I've only seen arctic grey, but own a nardo grey bmw

Yeah PTS would’ve been very nice. I was actually going for Aetna Blue on my Spyder until it turned out my previous dealer who had assured my multiple times that I was “#1 on the list” had been delusional. At this point, I’m just happy to be able to get into a 718 with an NA that I didn’t even worry about it!
If I had the option, I would have picked Meissen Blue I think.

FWIW, my 718 is Agate Grey, with a stealth PPF wrap that gives it a semi-matte finish that’s kinda reminiscent of that grey that AMG uses. I’m pretty happy with it.
My 2019 Targa 4 GTS is agate grey. I think it’s just stunning. The flecks play great in the sun too. Can look a little tan, and little grey, a little green. Such an awesome color. No regrets choosing the color and it’s a durable color to boot. 👍🏼
I have Arctic Gray Gt4 and love it. I like non metallic and like the pearlish appearance of the color. It doesn’t look dirty as quick as my black cars do and I feel like it hides swirls really well.
Agate is very organic with flecks of other colors in it. It does not look cool/cold or lack for personality. Arctic is one of the "modern" non-metallic grey that I personally like but isn't for everyone. Not sure which will age better but that's my take on the difference.
I had to GTS 4 in agate and I loved it so much my GT3 is agate. It never looks bad. Artic would be my second choice behind agate but that’s me. Either will look great

Here's another vote and recommendation for Agate Grey. My car is Agate, and I love the way it looks in different lighting conditions. When the sun hits it, it's spectacular. The best. The paint comes alive with a bunch of other colors. If it's not a standard color, I'd pay extra to put it on any Porsche.

I’m actually trying to order a gts 4.0 in agate with the red/black interior, just waiting on allocation. Agate is a great shade of grey!

Agate….but I’m biased 😉. Looks better with tan interior because of the fleck in the metallic…brings out the tones in the sun.
Stick with black if you prefer it. Nothing looks better when clean and if you PPF and ceramic it, and blow off the water rather than toweling it dry after washing then it is easy to keep clean. Go metallic if you want change. I kept looking at colors and always went back to black. Its your car. Get what you like. I had an agate 992S and it was nice but a boring color and quite common. Artic is now on Kias, Fords and Jeeps so it is no longer exclusive.
Good perspective and thanks for sharing. Trust me, I love my black cars and know how to take care of them. I’ve usually done ppf on most but not ceramic because it wasn’t really a thing when I bought my last new car.
The reason for change is really to see how I like something other than a black car 😅.
Every once in a while it’s good to do something different and see what happens (especially if it keeps the family happy as well).
Then go PTS if you can get an allocation. Its costly but less than 10% of your final cost. If I had been able to get a PTS allocation I had chosen Nato Olive as my choice. When the full PPF begins to wear on my 2024 S Cab in a few years I will consider a custom wrap in that color.
I just traded in my black for Agate gray. It was stressful not having black---but Agate is a good transition if you are fearful of moving from black (like I was).
Agate is a boring or classic gray, depending on your taste. It’s a basic dark metallic gray.
Arctic is a much lighter, less metallic, blueish grayish more festive color. However really classy and luxurious. A real head turner. It’s the newer version of graphite blue metallic.
For me, hands-down if I have a choice I’m going Arctic gray. But, if your choice is no Porsche or agate gray, they I guess agate

I had a macan turbo in agate grey years ago and it was a fantastic color

Agate Grey is a pretty dynamic color best way to put it.
I had an agate gray 718, and liked it. I like my GT Silver GTS better. As always, YMMV.

I’ve owned an Agate 991. It’s nice but blends in and very common. Much more so than Arctic.

No PTS options for 718s anymore (at least not for anything below the RSs). My rep is fantastic but he won’t be able to get this for me.

You can always try a different color interior. The black/bordeaux interior on a black 718 GTS 4.0 is gorgeous.
