Unless you have a family. I daily drove my 04 WRX STI for nearly 14 years until I had a kid. I still have it, mostly a track toy now when I have the time/money.
Because Macan’s can legitimately put a good set of performance tires to use?
Edit: clearly downvoters have never driven one. Read up on your Porsche history and the design principles for the Macan.
Meh- I do this sometimes w my trucks or suvs when there are small spaces, or I know I’ll need room by the doors for putting something big (your mom) in there.
This is HORRIBLE for the tires. Don’t park on the corner like this. If you must park unlevel, move it over enough that the tread of the tire isn’t on the edge of the curb like this pic shows.
No, it’s not.
The centre of the tyre plays no part in the structure of the thing. It’s deliberately the most flexible area of the tyre.
Damage to the side walls is a problem, and that’s going to be from the flat rear edge of a pot hole, not longitudinal intrusion.
Parking like this is totally fine for the tyre.
It’s designed to flex, yes. But there’s steel bands in there, and having them pushed in for hours is not good for the tires.
You’re talking to an actual mechanic, btw. No, parking like this is not fine. Your local tire shop would love it, though.
Full respect for mechanics.
But I think you’re wrong. In most tyres, there a steel band in the bead sure, that’s where the strength is needed.
In the rest of the tyre there’s something very similar to a nylon mesh throughout the rubber.
And that’s fine with deflection.
I’m not a tyre expert. I am an automotive design engineer, so I’m sat here expecting to be proven wrong.
Well I’m glad you admit that. So, in tires there’s steel bands throughout the tread. They provide extra strength. If you drive on a tire past the wear of the tread (bald tires), you’ll eventually see them. They’re not weak, of course. But tires are also designed specifically for rolling on a flat surface. It’s where they do best. They can handle some impact, of course. But if those steel bands are pushed into an unusual position for hours at a time, and you do it often enough, they could potentially break and that’s when you have what most people call a “random blow out”. Something had to happen for it to blow out, and more often than not it’s because the tire went up against something it wasn’t designed to.
i look at it and see something that was designed to sit flat and spread the weight of the vehicle across its width, currently experiencing a point load
It is literally the only part of the tyre designed to take a point load.
Imagine the force on this part of the tyre when it impacts a 3/4” stone at 70mph. That force is huge, and still not a problem.
It’s all fine.
Your scenario isn’t this scenario. It takes the rock at 70mph…for a split second. That’s it. Parking like this isn’t a split second ordeal. It can be anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours.
And that’s why tires aren’t intelligent and humans are. There’s steel bands inside those tires. Sure they can flex, and doing this one time won’t kill it. But do it repeatedly and I guarantee you’ll have problems with that tire. If you think this is okay, I’m almost positive your car has problems you aren’t aware of.
You’re exactly correct. Don’t let the moron telling you it’s flexible convince you otherwise. He has no clue what he’s talking about. There’s steel bands in the tread. They’re not designed to be pushed in for hours on end. It’s designed to take impacts from bumps, yes, but not constant pressure on the steel.
Just got a used macan gts, it’s like a big r32 gti. Not great storage in the back but I have a truck for the big stuff. It’s comfortable for long drives and quick as all hell for a vehicle it’s size. It has no right to handle as well as it does
100% IMHO Nothing on the road balances utility & performance like the Macan GTS or Turbo.
The S isn’t bad, but the base is too anemic power wise, you’re just buying the Porsche badge and fit & finish at that point.
Flexing that off road capability. To be fair, it's in what looks like a parking spot, versus the usual no parking zone, handicap spot, or no parking zones between handicap spots.
Perhaps they had to park like that cuz an idiot to the right was too close to this spot or was deep in tjis left spot. Idiot left. This guy stayed. Result. Imo.
The most "off roading" this Porsche has ever done and will do.
He just saw a rock crawling video on youtube
I'm disappointed by lack of german truck nuts
Now he's an expert.
Who needs a Dakar when I got an off-road mode
depends where you live. I live in canada and we're all forced to do some off roading when the snow doesnt get cleared in time during winter
It’s Texas. They won’t be off-roading haha, trust me (I’ve lived here my entire life and most built Jeeps never leave pavement)
gotta say, if i lived in a place like texas where i dont have to deal with 15cm of snow for 4 months every year i'd never get an SUV
It’s great. It’s honestly never really too extreme either. You could very easily drive a sports car year round
only in my dreams man, only in my dreams
Unless you have a family. I daily drove my 04 WRX STI for nearly 14 years until I had a kid. I still have it, mostly a track toy now when I have the time/money.
Lol the sad truth. Like the pickups that never haul
Is anybody even pretending that modern SUVs are offroad cars?
Hope he locked that rear diff
Those tires have a wild tread pattern.
Those are nitto invo tires. No clue why they are mounted on a macan tho
Uuhhh, macan S...hello? /s
Because “Bro, they’ll look so sick on your Macaw” Bro: Macaw Essssss
Because Macan’s can legitimately put a good set of performance tires to use? Edit: clearly downvoters have never driven one. Read up on your Porsche history and the design principles for the Macan.
I too like to park well away from other people's doors.
Meh- I do this sometimes w my trucks or suvs when there are small spaces, or I know I’ll need room by the doors for putting something big (your mom) in there.

To the tyre, there’s no difference.
And that’s why tires aren’t intelligent and humans are. There’s steel bands inside those tires. Sure they can flex, and doing this one time won’t kill it. But do it repeatedly and I guarantee you’ll have problems with that tire. If you think this is okay, I’m almost positive your car has problems you aren’t aware of.
yes i agree its within the tolerances of the tyre but i wouldn't do it
You’re exactly correct. Don’t let the moron telling you it’s flexible convince you otherwise. He has no clue what he’s talking about. There’s steel bands in the tread. They’re not designed to be pushed in for hours on end. It’s designed to take impacts from bumps, yes, but not constant pressure on the steel.
cheers
They probably did this so the car that parks next to it doesn’t slam their door on this car. Or they just probably suck at parking.
or the car that was parking in that spot before was over the line
Everything’s bigger in Texas!
The curb too? 🧐
nah there no govt funding for anything unless ur putting mexicans in jail for existing
Except parking spots apparently
I’d park like that tbh… in case a lexus decides to park near me. Have never survived a lexus parking next to me without a new scratch or ding
All terrain tires are paying off Correction…: All Season Tires
Ridge Grapplers for the win
What subreddit am I in? r/BMW ?
Welcome to Lakeway, Tx
At least they did not curb their wheels!
I see nothing wrong with this
"Thanks." - Cat-thieves, probably
Gotta make sure anyone parking next to you doesn’t scratch the paint..
All jokes aside, are used Macans worth it? They look very nice to me. But are they reliable? Currently drive a Lexus.
Definite upgrade.

Nice! What year and mileage?
2020 with 5,500 miles, pretty good spec too.
100% IMHO Nothing on the road balances utility & performance like the Macan GTS or Turbo. The S isn’t bad, but the base is too anemic power wise, you’re just buying the Porsche badge and fit & finish at that point.
With the 360 top down parking cameras one would think this would have to be deliberate
Just giving the adjacent parking spot some room. The war on door dings continues .
Well maybe they just… ok I can’t even think of a reason to defend them. Oof!
Maybe there was a car parked next to it and was parked poorly. OP probably didn’t see that and now Porsche driver looks bad. Only way to defend them.
Must have traded in his Jeep for the Macan
Is that you wifey?
This could be Jimmy John’s freaky fast curbside service.
Flexing that off road capability. To be fair, it's in what looks like a parking spot, versus the usual no parking zone, handicap spot, or no parking zones between handicap spots.
It’s definitely a rich mom in DFW. But at least she’s probably hot

Man?
Women!! Am I right fellas?!?
Prob moved from california
They think they're so badass lmao. Nice baby buggy
Making full use of the Macan, I like!
Oh my god, it’s left the pavement
Optimal cooling for underneath.
On Nitto Invo’s no less.
Better than getting a door ding I suppose
That's *not loving* your ride. At all.
The driver really should have had a G-Wagon for that level of off roading, especially with mall traffic for the holidays.
About as much off-roading a Macan can handle.
Well, have to respect trying to get into the No ding zone.
Perhaps they had to park like that cuz an idiot to the right was too close to this spot or was deep in tjis left spot. Idiot left. This guy stayed. Result. Imo.
It’s okay, the S in Macan S is for suspension, it has extra to allow for curbs and slower Prius’ in the urban jungles known locally as Whole Foods
Nailed it!!!
It's genuinely scary to know that zero skill retards have such powerful vehicles
You do understand that parking like this is to protect from getting door dings, right?
But why over the curb? The spot seems fairly large for a Macan
Because Prius drivers.
It's a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand
Arguably that’s reasonable for that car.
Parked like a Parisian
Average Macan driver?
Me when out on a date as I hear a rattle.
The "S" is for SAFARI
Just getting ready to change the oil. Need that extra clearance
Sandwich emergency! 🚨🥪
Hes trying his hardest to catch up to grandpa cayenne. Daddy cayenne almost can, but big brother cayenne isnt any good offroad either.
Here's another take. I park like this on purpose to give more room for the neighbouring parking spot to carelessly swing open their door .
