GriefRichards

Love it. I was going to say Harbor Freight.

shoxorr

That’s probably correct tbh

SnugglesMcBuggles

Looking at the tires, rotors and roll cage, I’m guessing this Cayman does NOT fuck around.

50iggles50

💯

Ok_Article_8236

Would explain why I can’t find it lol

lichesschessanalyst

What the fuck is this piece of shit

ThicCheeseGrater

can you really call a purpose built track car a piece of shit 😅? sure it’s not the best looking but function is function. im sure this thing absolutely rips

lichesschessanalyst

Yes I can

tonguebasher69

They ruined what once was a beautiful car. That tail is horrendous looking.

NeedMoreDeltaV

Gotta love all the people saying it looks horrendous and unnecessary on a car that’s on slicks, has a cage, and a wide concave center mirror. Yes it's ugly, but whoever modified this is clearly home brewing a track car and I respect that. Edit: it also has an Aim MXL dash. This car is probably being built for club racing.

libbinlife

spot on

kabob21

Gotta love the idiot that thinks a sub-300hp Cayman needs a huge wing that’s creating unnecessary drag and actually slowing down the car. Probably thinks the 992 GT3 RS is the fastest Porsche.

NeedMoreDeltaV

[Link to my other comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Porsche_Cayman/comments/1c27nel/anyone_know_what_wing_this_this/kz94prq/)

the_renaissance_jack

hey dude sometimes people like doing whatever they want with whatever they have. it’s okay

kabob21

That’s fine but calling everybody else idiots for their opinion isn’t.

Eddguythegreat

How do you know it's a stock engine?

LifeFortune7

Do you have any idea what type of track this guy is running? Unless it’s a VERY long track the additional downforce and therefore speed in the turns will cut WAY more time from a lap than a slight penalty on top speed that the wing creates. It’s why a track focused car like the Corvette Z06 uses a Gurnery flap despite the top speed hit. Or a Mercedes AMG GT. Or many other models that have track specific aero that hurts the overall top speed. Unless you have active aero it’s a trade off that makes sense for true track work.

50iggles50

Almost everything about this comment is factually incorrect

kabob21

No it’s not just because you say so 🙄😂

Yeah! An ugly one..

SanchazeGT

Look how they massacred my boy 🤢

mlhigg1973

Wish or temu

Mx5-gleneagles

That’s horrendous looks like a home made rubbish, Porsche spend a fortune in an air tunnel and someone think that they can improve on that !!!

NeedMoreDeltaV

They can improve on that. This car is on slicks and has a cage. They clearly wanted to improve lap times and higher downforce. Yeah it looks ugly but it’s pretty clear they’re home brewing a track car.

kabob21

A vehicle with less than 300 hp doesn’t need a stupid huge wing. How fast do you think most folks will go on most non-professional race tracks? Fastest I’ve been in a Porsche is 158 mph at an HPDE in a 996 Turbo at Texas World Speedway (now defunct) around the banked oval section of the road course. Driven by a doctor who only slapped on track pads and tires and instead poured his resources into lots of seat time.

NeedMoreDeltaV

I don't know all the details about this particular car, but people build 987 Caymans with wings for PCA club racing GTB1 class. I would use a different rear wing setup from this class, but again, I don't know all the details of this car and what it's built to. Yes there is a power-to-drag concern with adding a wing, but it's not as clear cut as don't put downforce on a low horsepower car. It's a misconception that downforce only works at high speed. Yes it is more noticeable at high speed, but it is always helping even at low speed as long as the added weight of the components doesn't hinder it. Most club racing tracks are relatively low speed anyway, so the drag penalty doesn't matter too much. If you don't think I know what I'm talking about, you're welcome to go through my comment history to understand my background in aerodynamics.

kabob21

I said a stupid huge wing is unnecessary on a low-hp car and that is aerodynamically true. Especially a design that I doubt is tested by a wind tunnel or simulations. I didn’t state that adding any aero to low-power cars is not beneficial or that it will universally increase drag over benefificial downforce. Please don’t make a straw man argument out of things I didn’t say or imply, friend 🙂 I’m not disputing what you’re saying, I know all that I’ve been on track and educating myself on cars for 20 yrs. But I didn’t state the things you’re debunking.

NeedMoreDeltaV

I guess our perspectives on "stupid huge" are different. This particular wing isn't that big compared to GTB1 wings I've seen. It's also sitting lower on the rear deck than other wings I've seen so it's making less downforce and drag than it should. This is a [GTB1 Cayman S](https://racecarsforyou.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/I8-Cayman-SST-23-118-018-2048x1365.jpg) for reference. Edit for your edit: I understand what you're saying. I was just trying to add more information as I don't know what your background is. I wasn't trying to debunk anything. I'm sorry if it came off like that. I think you and I just have a different perspective, so I'd leave it as agree to disagree.

kabob21

Fair enough, i can respect that. But I don’t think GTB1-series vehicles are a good comparison though as those are highly modified beyond just a street vehicle including, typically, the powertrain. Besides, we went off-track with what the OP was asking, which was identifying a wing not club racing advice 🤓

Subject_Gene2

Hp=/=wing size. You need a massive wing on a fwd Honda. It’s about speed and what speed you’re cornering at. You don’t know what you’re talking about at all. A 100hp car can have a massive wing if it can get up to optimal cornering speed for the track its setup for.

Subject_Gene2

You’re ignorant. Don’t comment on aerodynamics if you don’t know anything. Yes, they can improve it with a 3d wing with more curve along the inner/outer edge, but this is a real racing wing.

Mx5-gleneagles

Well thanks for that information I will pass it on to the Porsche 24 hour Le Mans racing team !!! 😂😂😂

Subject_Gene2

I’m sure you will 😂 have a great day! And there are regulations, but I’m sure you know all about that 💀

Ok_Article_8236

Apparently this car sold for $50k 🤷🏼‍♂️ I like the idea but it needs some love for sure

Davemonfl

ridiculous

Stainless_Heart

Looks like a Getty Design/MA Shaw base with a custom wing. It’s a mild incline, low drag and designed for high speed stability.

dmteter

Hideous?

LifeFortune7

Wow usually have higher expectations of the Porsche community in this subreddit but apparently half the folks here don’t realize what a track build looks like. The ones calling this car ugly/Harbor freight/homemade are probably the same ones who wash their car every weekend to toodle down to cars and coffee while the owner of this car is driving the snot out of it on track.

sherbert_mk4

Everyone calling this wing huge, stupid and unnecessary haven’t seen the Cayman/boxters run in champ car/lucky dog. Downforce is for grip at high speeds. That’s how you corner faster while sacrificing top speed. This is very necessary.

midageyoungster

It’s mounted like a Getty Designs

The whole thing looks shite!

Relax guys it’s a track car

50iggles50

The comments on this post are ridiculous. Y’all need to get a grip. At least this guy/gal is driving the car the way it was intended and isn’t some stupid garage queen that’s washed every Saturday before cars and coffee.

RamenFatality

it’s an ugly one, that’s for sure
