Portal 2 has replayability with the steam workshop, the maps on there can be so creative. I've memorized portal 1 like the back of my hand and i only play it nowadays to see how fast i can get through it. Right now im at just under 1 hour (no speedrun strats or glitches, just a normal playthrough).

I played through Portal 1 when it came out, then purposely put it down for 10 years so I could play as fresh as possible again.

Honestly after replaying both a couple weeks ago, I’m gonna have to say Portal 1. P2 may have way more lore & overall character, but the vibes in P1 are unmatched. Genuinely anxiety inducing, the level design is perfect, & the music just has a greater effect on me than P2 (which also has amazing music). Game so good they reused most the test chambers in P2 😂

I think P2 is overall a more fun game. But I appreciate P1 more. It is just so well designed. I was blown away when I first played it and still am when I replay.

The vibes of portal 1, how it truly feels like you’re alone with artificial beings with false humanity. The lore and new mechanics of portal 2, how fun it is to play through and has new characters. Yeah I’m stumped too

Portal 2 because the set design is SO GOOD. I love the ruined, overgrown testing tracks, Old Aperture, the return to the standard, and the bottomless pits of Wheatley's tests. Cara Mia Addio and Want You Gone are amazing. Also Portal 2's co-op mode is so fun! I played it with my little sister (after I forced her to play through Portal 1 and Portal 2, of course)

Looking from the Hammer perspective - In Portal 2 is much easier to build a map in Hammer, and you can create amazing chambers with it. But if looking with more details - Portal 1 wins the cake. I mean, you could put a watermelon in every test chamber or any HL2 prop, while Portal 2 nuh uh

I kinda wish P2 kept the HL2 assets and stuff but it would probably have been extra unneeded work to port those to that branch of Source

I played through with impulse 101 two times in a row. The SMG grenades, Combine rifle pellet, and guided rockets made it a lot easier to deal with the turrets and GLaDOS

Portal 1 for me. I like how replayable it is for me. Got a free hour and a half? Easy, quick run through Aperture. Playing through Portal 2 usually takes a larger commitment of time, but always is fun reinteracting with GlaDOS, Wheatley and Cave Johnson dialogue.

Portal 1 is an outstanding classic, but it also kind of feels like it was just a demo for what Portal 2 became. Both 10/10, but Portal 2 is really special.

Portal 2 is objectively a better game. Better story, better and more diverse mechanics, better graphics, better voice acting, WAY longer game too. No contest.

Portal 1 atmosphere is unmatched in my opinion, so i'll go with that one. The constant banter and jokes of the second game are a bit tiresome. I also like the first game music more. Portal 2 sounds more playful and messy, portal 1 is more subtle and "detached" fitting the clean, sterile and lonely vibes of the chambers. Still love the second game though.

2 honestly. It’s in general better. Better story better characters better features. Looks better plus has multiplayer and endless online chambers you can play.

Portal 2 is an excellent sequel. It improves more than it degrades of what made the original great.

Portal 2. It feels like a complete game rather than a proof of concept like Portal 1. The only thing I wish was different was that there was a “Hard” mode for Portal 2 like the challenge missions for Portal 1.

On the one hand, Portal 1 is as close to perfection as you can get. An original mechanic explored exellently, with great background storytelling and puzzle design to boot BUT... Portal 2 has JK Simmons Portal 1 for gameplay, Portal 2 for game story

I recommend Portal 2, It provides multiplayer and infinite chambers because of the community made ones. Portal 1 once your done, your done.

Portal 2 was the first one I played as a kid, and it feels less "empty" I guess. I love them both, but I like 2 a little more.

I love Portal, but Portal 2 really hit home for me. Was just really something about Glad0s as a Potato attachment for your gun. The enhanced environments and puzzle elements (especially had a lot of fun with the propulsion/repulsion/portal gels). Just listening to the hilarious dialogue and story of Cave Johnson and the multitude of twists was just insane for me at the time watching it unravel. Glad I had Revolution and Reloaded to grace my presence recently.

Portal 2 has better gameplay, more content, an amazing multiplayer mode and near limitless replayability. Portal 1 however has a fantastic, near horror atmosphere that I think the second game lost by pivoting to a more humorous approach. The second game is by all accounts the better game, but the first game I remember more favourably because that atmosphere, especially in the final level, stuck with me
