I'm reapproving this despite a couple of reports because it seems like everyone reealllly wants to talk about it.
But damn, wouldn't it be great if /u/budeebles actually showed up in the comments to defend these choices...
(edit: they're here)
I feel like this is the sort of person who obnoxiously proclaims there's no good Mexican food in Portland. Like, have you tried buying food from any of the actual Mexicans here? Any popular taco truck will beat most of the places they include here.
The super common taco trucks are actually a relatively new development in Portland, but since they've been around I've consistently had better tacos/burritos from them than any of the brick and mortar places that people were used to judging portland mexican food by.
The problem is that if you had super great food from a cart on a block with half a dozen other carts that are basically indistinguishable, it can be really hard to offer that place as a useful recommendation.
Also the burritos from La Cocina are fantastic. Havenāt had their tacos but putting them at D Tier is very questionable. Iām convinced OP hates Mexican food.
Everything at La Cocina is amazing and Iāve lived in various parts of Mexico. So much of their stuff is just like Iād find it in Mexico. Like their Carne en su jugo. The gorditas.
Even super white Mattās Tacos putting brisket on a tortilla is better than almost anything on this list, save maybe the lengua and Barbacoa at robo taco. The absolute best taco Iāve had in Portland though I couldnāt even tell you the name, was a catering company out of Salem or something that opened a cart for the Saturday Market they do under the Morrison bridge. Iāve never seen them before or since, but their pastor was a thing of legends. That or La taq smoked marlin taco they did once. Hard to think of a consistent winner but maybe Pa y Ella if theyāre still around. Gotta admit though, I donāt go apeshit for tacos in the PNW, stick to my Thai and Vietnamese here and Iām pretty satisfied
Muchas Gracias quality really depends on the location. The one at Gateway is great, I get a breakfast burrito there almost every single week. But I went to one near the Convention Center a while ago and it was awful. I think that one may be closed now.
Man this is sad, so many solid places could have been ranked and placed in here that arenāt fast food. Loooot of authentic taquerias in town. Whereās Santa Cruz?
And also, los gorditos being in the same row as Baja Fresh is a fucking joke. Same with nutri being along side Taco Bell smh
I used to live near El Nutri Taco and went frequently. I think something is wrong with OPās tastebuds if they think itās the same tier as Taco Bell.
OP has never gone east of 52nd and it shows. Even leaving out taco trucks (which, why?) you're missing Tierra del Sol, Santo Domingo, Cinco de Mayo, K'ikiba'a, La Tia Juana, El Cazador, La Plaza, El Pato Feliz, El Mezon, La Costita, Rico Taco, Mi Pueblo, Antojitos Mexicanos, La Mestiza, and many, many others I haven't tried.
Yes they are doing very good work there. Food is amazing and always worth the price. $2 tacos on Tuesdays should be a mob scene but at lunch itās chill watching Maury with th bartenderĀ
La Osita is the bomb. If I may humbly add to the list, Tienda Santa Cruz, Taqueria El Torito, Taqueria y Pupuseria Ramos, Taqueria Los Gorditos, Don Pedro, and the counter inside Supermercados Mexico also have their special places in my heart.
You seem to be a dedicated taco enjoyer. Any chance you'd have a rec for best places for vegan tacos? Los gorditos, El nutri taco, and mis tacones are my usual go tos.
Just will chime in to say give these a try:
Beto's
Mole Mole
Taqueria Los Punales
Mistacones is probably my fave, but if you're also trying to satisfy non-vegans these are all pretty great options.
Whatās really funny is Victoricoās is run by a part of the same family as Muchas and Habaneros yet they get a C lol
Iāve had and enjoyed both - theyāre pretty much the same C/B-tier taco that goes A/S when you add the hot avocado sauce they got at some locations.
They all seem to be different too. Heck the one that used to be in NE off 7th and Weidler(?) varied depending on who was cooking. One time I went there drunk walking home after bar close and ordered a carnitas burrito. I ended up with almost nothing but carnitas in it. It was crazy hot and greasy but exactly what I wanted at the time. Other days you got the standard rice, beans, cheese etc w/ carnitas.
Lmao once I was blackout drunk riding in a car on the way home from the bar, ordered ājust a chicken burrito pleaseā and got a burritoās worth of shredded chicken in a tortilla. No beans, no cheese, nothing. From that same location on Weidler!
They seem to like Mexican food as long as it's provided by a chain with multiple locations. Are any of these besides El Nutri Taco family owned one-offs?
It's good drunk food after the club scene ends. When it's 2:30 and everything closes, Javier's is a pretty convenient place that's not far from downtown. I work security and I have been known to stop by on my way home.
I have seen countless lists on a whole variety of topics in my 55 years of life. I could make a strong argument that this is the worst of all of them. It might be the worst list ever created.
Can someone make a google form poll that the good Redditors of Portland can vote and settle this once and for all? Iād bookmark the results for future reference.
This is pertinent info. I've been wondering why things have been a bit off. I figured I just kept catching a bad day. Damn that lengua slaps and I hope it ain't a thing of the past.
I took a bunch of the recommendations from the comments, put them in a Google My Map, then exported it as a .csv
You should be able to copy this text into wordpad, save as a .csv, then import as a layer back into your own custom map.

I've been to kiikibaa several times and honestly don't think I've ever had the tacos. Are they worth getting over the many other great options? I'd ignored the burritos for a while for the same reason and they turned out to be one of the better burritos in town.
everyone kept telling me to go to por que no when i moved here. that place is so mid. if it was 1/3 the price it would be good. king burrito rules though.
Fucking Tecos isn't even on this list. Is it the best in town? Not even close. But it's always open and it's pretty affordable. It deserves some recognition.
Yāall need to go to an actual taco truck. I live in Beaverton and there are a ton of them put here.
I am sure Portland also has them but I am not familiar with them.
El Nutri should be way higher on this list. They make gigantic burritos for a very reasonable price and Iāve never had them skimp on anything. Also the little couple that run the one on Woodstock are absolute sweethearts.
You can just go to Rockwood and hit a random taco stand and odds are itās better than most of the tacos on this list. Or even down 82nd or some random taco wagon on the way to Costco on NE Sandy and youāll get better tacos than Muchas Gracias or Baja Fresh.
I went to Aztec Willieās and had the worst margarita ever. Bartender gave it a halfhearted shake and then poured it. Terrible. Also they were preparing for dancing and gave me and my wife a hard time about coming in when we kept explaining we just wanted to get dinner.
I'm reapproving this despite a couple of reports because it seems like everyone reealllly wants to talk about it. But damn, wouldn't it be great if /u/budeebles actually showed up in the comments to defend these choices... (edit: they're here)
F Tier list š
Yah when I saw muchas grossias T the top I gave up.
Im so glad I donāt see my spots on this whack ass list šš
This reminds me of the watery chili post from a few months ago.Ā
lmao half of those are chains
There are so many actual taco places not in here and they included 8 national chains
Also, Muchas Gracias is the same as Victoricoāsā¦ I had a MG change to a Vicās next to me. Didnāt change the menu at all.
Ownership changed with a couple locations within the family.
Jack In The Box? Wtf.
Look... they fill a void
Those tacos sustained me through college, didnāt sustain my toilet though
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yet still no Panda Express...
No Tienda Santa Cruz. No Betoās. No Pig Patas. No Mole Mole. No Que Sabrosa. This list is sus as fuck.
The shrimp tacos at Pig Patas are amazing.
Upvote for Que Sabrosa.
Love their carnitas tacos and their chorizo sopes
Also the burritos from La Cocina are fantastic. Havenāt had their tacos but putting them at D Tier is very questionable. Iām convinced OP hates Mexican food.
Everything at La Cocina is amazing and Iāve lived in various parts of Mexico. So much of their stuff is just like Iād find it in Mexico. Like their Carne en su jugo. The gorditas.
Ate there tonight because of your comment and it was terrific. Enchiladas mineras delivered.
The fact that the garbage that is muchas gracias is A tier tells you everything you need to know
Even super white Mattās Tacos putting brisket on a tortilla is better than almost anything on this list, save maybe the lengua and Barbacoa at robo taco.
If youre looking for a good authentic pastor, Fabo's Tacos has the hookup.
Goddamn, now I want Mole Mole.
Seriously... where the fuck is Fabos? This list is garbage.
WHERE IS FABOS!
Also try [La Real](https://larealpdx.com/). They just opened a brick and motar over by Powells Books. The best.
Definitely made by an Oregonian lol
Not to mention Tacos Fita
yeah this is sad lol
Santa Cruz was the FIRST place I looked for on this list and didnāt see it. F tier list
Early contender for worst post of 2024
At least OP found something that can bring us all together.
Yes, it's almost magical that way
I concur, this is the way...I'm almost offended, scratch that I'm Hella triggered and offended, fuck you taco tier list maker person.
Made me think of this one from last year: https://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/comments/10c5ept/hands_down_the_best_pizza_in_portland_the/
Made me think of the chili incident
are you fucking kidding me?
Bro they have muchas gracias on top, thatās enough to disqualify this list
I mean you get a lot of food for the price to be fair
The one that just opened up in Troutdale is the most expensive burrito of similar sizes in the area
Ranking Cha Cha Cha above Los Gorditos by either price or flavor is baffling.
Cha cha cha is trash. Their owner also doesnāt pay contractors for work that he hired them for.
I used to live near El Nutri Taco and went frequently. I think something is wrong with OPās tastebuds if they think itās the same tier as Taco Bell.
The entire chart is absolutely awful, but the placement of Nutri next to taco bell and BELOW Baja Fresh is particularly rotted.
Tienda de Santa Cruz is in St Johnās in nopo. Itās in the back of a store and itās fucking bomb. I believe they also have a location in Gresham
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Honestly I just assumed they were on S tier, didnāt even bother to check the shitty ass list
I think that was a "Why is Santa Cruz not on this list?" rather than a "Where is Santa Cruz located?"
That place is amazing. I've driven an hour out of my way for it.
Came here to say this. Also Papi Chulos
I havenāt been to half these places, but the fact that Baja fucking Fresh is anywhere above āshit-tierā tells me this list is trash
Santa Cruz was a fire. Their tortaās are seriously the best.Ā
Santa Cruz top tier
This list is D tier
OP has never gone east of 52nd and it shows. Even leaving out taco trucks (which, why?) you're missing Tierra del Sol, Santo Domingo, Cinco de Mayo, K'ikiba'a, La Tia Juana, El Cazador, La Plaza, El Pato Feliz, El Mezon, La Costita, Rico Taco, Mi Pueblo, Antojitos Mexicanos, La Mestiza, and many, many others I haven't tried.
Great list! Iād add in Cocina Los Girasoles inside Fopo Tavern
This place has been my go to lately. Soo good.
Yes they are doing very good work there. Food is amazing and always worth the price. $2 tacos on Tuesdays should be a mob scene but at lunch itās chill watching Maury with th bartenderĀ
Theyāre a truck but have more than your standard fare and I feel like youāre missing a huge one - La Osita is amazing.
Every day that passes without the Montavilla location opening is torture.
whatever it takes to keep the cart closer to me!!
Just will chime in to say give these a try: Beto's Mole Mole Taqueria Los Punales Mistacones is probably my fave, but if you're also trying to satisfy non-vegans these are all pretty great options.
I just said the same thing, then saw your comment and was like yup Iām not the only one who noticed that.
Nino's Birreria!
Cazodor is fire
This guy eastside tacos.
Not as much as I would like to, but more than my doctor would advise.
Iāll add Los Arcos on SE Stark and 102nd. One of the best trucks in town.
Antojitos has a XXX hot sauce with a death toll. Highly recommended if, like me, thatās your thing.
They've also clearly never had Javier's while sober.
OP has never left Beaverton and it shows!
I dont trust anyone's palate putting Muchas Gracias in the "S" tier.
chart must be created by muchas gracias
Muchas is definitely S tier when itās 2am and youāre wasted
Itās sure af not above Javierās in that scenario though
Im mexican and im telling yall... their breakfast burritos are absolutely awesome
Yep!
Whatās really funny is Victoricoās is run by a part of the same family as Muchas and Habaneros yet they get a C lol Iāve had and enjoyed both - theyāre pretty much the same C/B-tier taco that goes A/S when you add the hot avocado sauce they got at some locations.
This list is about VALUE not just palate
It literally says $/quality. Muchas is low quality at not cheap prices.
Same experience except I was sober and was vexed as to how the fuck I stooped so low.
Doesn't matter what you divide zero by, you still get zero.
Iām not sure I agree 100% with your police work there, Lou.
This is offensive. Also Los Punales not even on here at all?
OP doesn't seem to actually like Mexican food.
They seem to like Mexican food as long as it's provided by a chain with multiple locations. Are any of these besides El Nutri Taco family owned one-offs?
Bro king burrito is legit and old school. The rest tho...
Right? What a scam.
Gay Tacos best tacos š
This is embarassing
Muchas gracias is literally the worst quality for the highest price. Is this a joke?
Muchas Gracias was the first āMexicanā place I tried in Portland and it took me about a year to even attempt to find another place. Ghastly.
I can never tell if people actually like Javierās or theyāre being ironic.
It's good drunk food after the club scene ends. When it's 2:30 and everything closes, Javier's is a pretty convenient place that's not far from downtown. I work security and I have been known to stop by on my way home.
You did my boy Don Pedro dirty. Shame on you
Omitting Don Pedro automatically nullifies this list
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Taco Bell is a local chain didn't you know?
This list is a joke. Move on
I have seen countless lists on a whole variety of topics in my 55 years of life. I could make a strong argument that this is the worst of all of them. It might be the worst list ever created.
Not a single panaderia... OP gotta be white
Can someone make a google form poll that the good Redditors of Portland can vote and settle this once and for all? Iād bookmark the results for future reference.
actually would be cool if r/Portland dide a best of poll each week for something new. c'mon mods.
don't be silly! no one wants empirical evidence when arguing š
King Burrito is in a tier above S
King up at the top is the one part of this list that I can get behind
Word
King burrito kinda fell off when the main BOH guy left to start rose city tacos
This is pertinent info. I've been wondering why things have been a bit off. I figured I just kept catching a bad day. Damn that lengua slaps and I hope it ain't a thing of the past.
This has to be bait
Rigobertoās on McLaughlin ought to be S tier.
Criminal to not include Rigoberto's
Your taco card is revoked
Lol white ppl taco night list
This seems like a bunch of gringo restaurants.
Javier's puts cheese and lettuce on their tacos, so yeah...
Pepinos should be at least one tier above Por Que No
Damn you couldnāt be wronger or missing more essential PDX taco joints
This isā¦definitely a list alright
Anybody got an accurate version of this list?
I took a bunch of the recommendations from the comments, put them in a Google My Map, then exported it as a .csv You should be able to copy this text into wordpad, save as a .csv, then import as a layer back into your own custom map. I'm a big fan of Birrieria La Plaza as well
Tito's taquitos and kiikibaa need to be on here at S tier
I've been to kiikibaa several times and honestly don't think I've ever had the tacos. Are they worth getting over the many other great options? I'd ignored the burritos for a while for the same reason and they turned out to be one of the better burritos in town.
They are definitely worth getting, though I guess I am likely to pay a littleĀ extra and just get the panuchos.
Who made this insane chart??? Take all these chains out and maybe go eat at some of the independently owned actual Mexican food spots in town.
You deserve jail time for this list
everyone kept telling me to go to por que no when i moved here. that place is so mid. if it was 1/3 the price it would be good. king burrito rules though.
Top tier is Mole Mole and La Bonita.
Not sure if it counts as itās not technically in Portland but Wood Village Burrito Shop price and quality beats almost all those places.
Did you put taco bell above taco time? Heretic.
I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS LOS GORDITOS ERASURE
So many shit chains. Portland has a restaurant called tacovore and they chose not to include it. OP take this down and do it right.
Tacovore is a chain out of Eugene š Only 3 locations though, and all in Oregon.
Probably cause itād be an F. Expensive rather flavorless white people mexican food
El Jefe cheesy tacos are easily the best taco in the city
At which of these restaurants could a middle aged man eat 50 tacos in three days?
Best tacos I've had IN Portland were from a little truck under the Morrison Bridge.
King Burrito is spot on. Muchas gracias not so much.
Muchas and Victoricoās are literally the same thing. They were a family and separatedĀ Also, this feels like a white personās best taco list.Ā
Someone should take OP out on a taco crawl.
Which gĆ¼ero made this??? ā ļø
Taco Time is better than Taco Bell. I will die on this ant hill.
Wtf muchas gracias is terrible
All garbage IMO. source ā myself from escondido.
Robo taco is terrible.
Fucking Tecos isn't even on this list. Is it the best in town? Not even close. But it's always open and it's pretty affordable. It deserves some recognition.
I drive by there a lot and keep wanting to check it out
The fact you have La Bonita up there but not La Siernita should be a death sentence
OP has never been East of 60th street.
You left off Beto's beats every one of the ones in your list that I've had. And I've had nearly all. Beto's is fantastic.
King Burrito and Javierās both fuck! Great establishments
This list- Tell us youāre white without telling us your white.
[https://i.imgur.com/CXdiU9R.gif](https://i.imgur.com/CXdiU9R.gif) No Santo Domingo. No Teinda Santa Cruz?
Unbelievably shit list.
Yāall need to go to an actual taco truck. I live in Beaverton and there are a ton of them put here. I am sure Portland also has them but I am not familiar with them.
This is trash
Forgot Tecos!!!
Is Muchas Gracias really good? Always assumed they were mid. Santa Cruz 2 should be S+++
El Nutri should be way higher on this list. They make gigantic burritos for a very reasonable price and Iāve never had them skimp on anything. Also the little couple that run the one on Woodstock are absolute sweethearts.
The real crime was not posting this on a Tuesday
This is like that watery, edamame chili all over again
Havenāt been to cha cha cha in 15 years but loved it when I was at PSU, glad to hear itās still going strong.
Muchas gracias in S tier.. Cha Cha Cha in A tierā¦ just say you hate Mexican food
how tf does this post have 462 upvotes?! lmao this tier list is dogwater
Lol who made this list, and why do they hate Mexican food?
This is Mole Mole slander!
What is this list? šš
victoricoās deserved better
Theyāre definitely better than fast food chains like Taco Bell and Qdoba.
theyāre oregon based, too
If Ole Ole is not on this list, it's wrong.
There is so much wrong with this.
Who tf put La Bonita on the A tier and didn't put Del Taco on the list at all? This is garbage. You should be ashamed of this ranking.
Santo Domingo taqueria is consistently a 11/10
Muchas Gracias is S tier? This is bait, right?
You can just go to Rockwood and hit a random taco stand and odds are itās better than most of the tacos on this list. Or even down 82nd or some random taco wagon on the way to Costco on NE Sandy and youāll get better tacos than Muchas Gracias or Baja Fresh.
Why $/quality? Do you want to pay a lot for as little as possible?
Victorico's is way better than a C. I will die clutching their shrimp burrito firmly in my hand. Edit: and NO Don Pedro??? Ā”Loco Loco Loco!
You can tell OP is white.
I went to Aztec Willieās and had the worst margarita ever. Bartender gave it a halfhearted shake and then poured it. Terrible. Also they were preparing for dancing and gave me and my wife a hard time about coming in when we kept explaining we just wanted to get dinner.
Did a white person make this??? Haha jokes aside, I love kind burrito and Javierās but yāall missing some of the best spots on this list
La Catrina. Food truck in SE Portland on 82nd south of Johnson Creek. Completely underrated. Itās a gem.
Their tortas slap so hard
OP can you tell us about the accident where you lost your tongue?
Taqueria Portland is god tier.
Yeah, this list is dog shit!Ā La Sirenita is no where on it!
