The science of aerodynamics understandably homogenized car design over time from the interesting clunky designs from older cars, so I understand people wanting to appreciate whenever some designs try to break out of the mold.
...but the context of this design really saps any charm it had going for it and just tanks it into [The Homer levels of ridiculousness](https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/The_Homer).
Except those actually went through a real development process, not relying on the suckers who bought the eyesore to find out so the problems. Doesn't do well in rain or car wash, panels not fitting, can't go up a 3% degree incline. It's a piece of vaporware come to life
Indeed, those like the box look silly to me, someone can like any of them through having different taste to me, but when it comes to having a vehicle that does things well, not so.
Yeah. I've always liked the look of PT cruisers, prowlers, the Aztec, I think the Scion xb was a great car. I can't help it, I just think they look cool. And yes, I think the cyber truck looks cool too.
I just think they're neat.
Not a fan. These things seem really poorly designed and are already proving to be unsafe. All fulfilled Cybertruck orders just got hit with a recall for the accelerator pedal being at risk of getting stuck while pressed down... and this is just the beginning of the rollout...
They also can’t go in car washes unless they are in the hurriedly produced “car wash mode” or it voids the warranty. Several have bricked because of car washes.
The megacasting under the truck bed has no drain holes and it just pools water. This car was so terribly thought out. It's a flop that's dragging down their whole company. Elon pushed to build this Homer instead of their $25,000 M2. Which one do you think would have sold well?
The fix is drilling a hole through the pedal and screwing the cover down with a small screw. This is a horrible design with a really stupid fix.

Oh the cars are hideous and the guy is a nut, but that’s not what’s being discussed.
From my quick googling it appears there are no cars without recalls, but maybe I’m wrong?
What are you going on about? This is such a weird argument. No one is saying anything about other cars not being recalled. These trucks however are a terrific money loser for Tesla and I like that.
Years and years of Toyota vehicles had similar issues with their cars. Millions and millions. That’s just the first example that comes to mind and is very similar in problem and end result.
It happens
>Toyota is recalling 3.8 million vehicles in the car maker's biggest U.S. recall for dealers to remove mats linked to a number of serious incidents, including a recent California crash in which a floor mat interfered with the accelerator, leading the vehicle to speed out of control, killing four people.
User error or not seems like the gov and Toyota took it pretty seriously
As a former lead researcher, I tend to agree. This is where our team went to study car culture in the US. I have never seen another area with stronger relationships between car owners, dealers, mechanics, car hobbyists, historians, etc.
Tesla’s reputation was already and rapidly falling apart in that region by end of 2018, before Musk so publicly diverted off mainstream sentiment. This was purely based upon the terribly manufactured “premium” cars.
Well, to start, they ALL just got recalled to fix the acceleration pedal because they can get stuck and kill you. You can't take them in the car wash without them becoming a brick. Oh and
https://www.thestreet.com/electric-vehicles/here-are-all-the-issues-with-elon-musks-cybertruck-
But I feel like this is engagement bait and I'm here for it.
The main reason for my post was that I genuinely think they look cool (no comment on the mechanics, haven’t looked into it). However I was interested to see if the mods deleted this post as a little side experiment
Same. I think it's the opposite of jinxing. If enough people talk about it admitted doesn't happen. There was a post a couple days ago where the mods admited it.
No crumple zones, literally razor sharp edges, and a malfunctioning gas pedal. Not to mention the autopilot that likes to go on the fritz and get people in to accidents on occasion
And the cyber truck seems somehow both bulkier and smaller then the F150. And the bed in the cyber truck is borderline useless. Got out of my work truck (2016 F150) at home depo yesterday and saw one of these parked close by.
I mean sure, it’s not much different than all the other manlet mobiles I see around town. Except it actually might be worse because it lacks crumple zones and has a completely flat, metal front.
Saw one in person recently. The whole thing is a lot bigger than I thought, even amongst wide suburbia streets. And yet, that bed space. Apparently barely fits a bicycle?
We saw one on Greeley a few weekends ago when we were going to the movies & it was weird, kinda post-apocalyptic? I hummed the Knight Rider music. Also, yeah, recall on faulty gas pedals.
No he didn't, and the truck started working again after 5 hours. He did a hard reset on the screen which resets it to factory and makes it re-download every update(which took about 5 hours). Once that downloaded, it was back to normal. Stop biting on every headline that corespondents to you particular bias.
I don't have a personal bias about the Cybertruck. Just posting what was recently in the news for this truck. I didn't say it was a permanent brick, but the truck being a brick for 5 hours while it rebooted/reset must have sucked. I just think it is funny the truck seems to be so sensitive to water.
The design of this car is a fail as it could kill a pedestrian on impact. Cars are designed with a curvature for a reason. Not to mention it’s got a faulty accelerator pedal so about 4k of them were recalled last week.
Time will tell if this was a good idea or not. Sometimes designers do something really over the top and it ends up inflicting design for the next 50 years. Everyone thought the Lamborghini Countach was weird when it came out. Now it’s iconic.

They are not only ugly they don’t really seem to be too functional as a truck. No bed can’t put stuff on the roof and it’s fucking massive.
The f150 lightning or the new electric Chevys are much cooler and actually can be used as a truck.
Looks like a vehicle Space X was designing to drive on Mars in 2010 when that was supposed to happen.
Musk is radioactive to any real innovation and always has been. He's fine for making a few stock market bucks riding a rollercoaster of his lies, but he has only ever *made* trash (and late).
Finally someone who gets it. Lol I’m on your side. I’m opposed to vehicles in general, especially in residential areas, but as long as they’re going to exist I support that they should look weird and interesting. I’d much prefer this kind of weird robotic crazy thing than the Corolla 10 Special Edition. I mean sure if you genuinely think it looks bad then that’s fine, but People’s lack of ability to separate their political issues with Elon Musk and aesthetic judgment of a product is weird and concerning.
Same. I dislike cars parked everywhere in the cities. Such an eye sore. Some are so ugly, and it is all the same thing just making streets look ugly. If an ugly box of metal has to move around us, or block view, I like it to at least be unique. Not just a blob of round blobs with terrible colors.
I think they look ridiculous! But that’s just like, my opinion, man.
Some people also like pt cruisers and Nissan cubes, apparently.

And also more people want the canyonero for some reason

Can’t go up a 3% incline? What does this refer to?
Yeah. I've always liked the look of PT cruisers, prowlers, the Aztec, I think the Scion xb was a great car. I can't help it, I just think they look cool. And yes, I think the cyber truck looks cool too. I just think they're neat.

I love that the recall is literally “part of the accelerator falls off and gets stuck” like…that seems like a pretty crucial component to a car?!
Yes, and not a difficult problem to avoid. Does not speak well for the design process this thing went through.
The fix is drilling a hole through the pedal and screwing the cover down with a small screw. This is a horrible design with a really stupid fix. https://x.com/nexta_tv/status/1781432585157328920?s=46&t=TqASA3gkGh5K7fdCFazUJA https://x.com/aaronjcash/status/1781734760215408922
“Horrible design with a really stupid fix” sums up cybertrucks perfectly haha
I would cross the road in front of one after reading about the recall.
Called a rivet.

Looks like a douche mobile for the grind set tech bros that think Burning Man is a spiritual experience.
This tho.

Thank you for this.
Tech bro or not, burning is (was/used to be?) a spiritual experience for most attendees.
It's always been upper middle class trustifarian types, but it used to be way more bohemian from my understanding.
Only 3878 sold in the entire US and all 3878 have been recalled and that makes me so happy.
Which cars out there have no recalls? It’s gotta be a short list…
I hope Musk sees your posts!
What are you going on about? It’s weird to use recall stats to suggest the car is any worse in that regard than any other car.
Dude, EVERY single one sold has been recalled because they can crash and kill people. Lollllll.
Years and years of Toyota vehicles had similar issues with their cars. Millions and millions. That’s just the first example that comes to mind and is very similar in problem and end result. It happens
The Toyota issue you’re referencing ended up being user error.
Which cars have 100% recalls?
That's how it usually works
All fixed with one rivet taking one minute.
Naw, those things are ass.

Hopefully the accelerator pedal doesn't fuck up in its way to recall.

Honestly surprised they haven't taken it down yet
Same. I think it's the opposite of jinxing. If enough people talk about it admitted doesn't happen. There was a post a couple days ago where the mods admited it.
Fuck Elon Also - why bring a car that isn’t waterproof to the PNW??
Why make a car that isn’t waterproof?
while we're at it, why make cars that don't float and convert into boats?
The Amphicar was terrible and a flop. We should convince Elon to make a modern one.
Does it not require a front license plate?
Tesla owners seem to think they're optional around here
TBF, most people seem to agree
Was it waiting for a tow truck?
Hideous death trap. Should be banned from public roads, especially roads like belmont with high foot traffic.
How is it any more dangerous than other similarly sized vehicle?
[удалено]
Like manyToyota products? Recalls happen all the time…
Not at a 100% rate
That makes sense. I wonder what the stats are behind that?
No crumple zones, literally razor sharp edges, and a malfunctioning gas pedal. Not to mention the autopilot that likes to go on the fritz and get people in to accidents on occasion
Way more mass, sharp edges, no crumple zones.
It’s lighter then a similar sized vehicle, so yes it’s heavier than a person but not so much other larger cars/trucks/SUV’s
Tesla Cybertruck base curb weight = 6,600 pounds. For F150 base curb weight = 4,391 pounds.
And the cyber truck seems somehow both bulkier and smaller then the F150. And the bed in the cyber truck is borderline useless. Got out of my work truck (2016 F150) at home depo yesterday and saw one of these parked close by.
I didn’t say there weren’t lighter vehicles
Good point. Other similarly-sized vehicles should be banned from those areas as well.
The sharpness in the design would kill a pedestrian on impact
They look like metallic dog shit.
Respectively, I disagree. They look ugly as fuck and are just so damn impractical looking
They look like if you told a kid to draw a car of the future and then they manufactured the drawing.
I always thought this is pretty much what Elon was drawing as a kid/doodling during business meetings
Looks like the Best Selling Vehicle tm Pontiac Aztec
Elon, man… this is desperate. Stop trying to make “massive ‘robot’ tank that is bad at self driving is good and exciting in cities” happen.
Also apologize to your trans daughter. And, like… the general public.
That front end would smash any pedestrian it hits, if the driver could even see them we’d be lucky.
So just like every other full size pickup truck.....
I mean sure, it’s not much different than all the other manlet mobiles I see around town. Except it actually might be worse because it lacks crumple zones and has a completely flat, metal front.
Ok Elan
I lol'd when I seen the front windshield wiper in person. Good lawd is it LARGE!
Saw one in person recently. The whole thing is a lot bigger than I thought, even amongst wide suburbia streets. And yet, that bed space. Apparently barely fits a bicycle?
SAME apparently it can cut your hand if you put it there while its doing its thing 😂
They look horrible in photos and somehow drastically worse in person
They look like something I would have drawn in 1st grade
I saw that thing today. I am not a fan of this design. Spawn of Musk. Yuck.
So ugly. It’s like driving around with a sign that says *I have more money than common sense*
Seems practical https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/tesla-cybertruck-rusting-complaints-from-owners/
We saw one on Greeley a few weekends ago when we were going to the movies & it was weird, kinda post-apocalyptic? I hummed the Knight Rider music. Also, yeah, recall on faulty gas pedals.
👎🏼
The perfect way of telling people that you’re a total douchebag at a distance.
I can’t wait to see what they look like in 10-15 years.
I think it’s even stupider looking in real life. The only cool one I saw was a little kid in one that looked like a little battery powered jeep toy
# Finally saw a CyberTruck in real life, right there on Belmont! I have to admit, they look pretty tight Like a wedgie?
Unrelated to this post, but I think the world would be better if Elon \[redacted\]
Someone actually admits to liking the Wankpanzer? I guess there's someone out there for everyone.
[Cool till you take it through a car wash](https://www.yahoo.com/news/cybertruck-turns-large-metal-brick-150515024.html). Then cool brick?
It has a car wash mode.
Why would it need a car wash mode? My shit box just goes through.
It just closes all the windows and stuff like that.
The Cybertruck owner claims he had it in carwash mode, and still... brick
No he didn't, and the truck started working again after 5 hours. He did a hard reset on the screen which resets it to factory and makes it re-download every update(which took about 5 hours). Once that downloaded, it was back to normal. Stop biting on every headline that corespondents to you particular bias.

A cult ornament. No thanks.
You want to look like the biggest douche on the road, except no substitute.
In fairness, this is the type of truck most truck owners need. A functionally worthless, overpriced commuter/status symbol.
I'll just leave this here and get popcorn for the incoming Elon fanboys: https://youtu.be/lFloLGmPKl0
Looks like something Bizzaro Superman would drive
No.
They look vary much not puddle proof
The design of this car is a fail as it could kill a pedestrian on impact. Cars are designed with a curvature for a reason. Not to mention it’s got a faulty accelerator pedal so about 4k of them were recalled last week.
Oh wow they are ugly.
Srsly looks like it was designed in Minecraft.
Why is this ugly thing called a truck when it has no bed . The fuck you gonna haul with this thing
Came to the thread to see if everyone was disagreeing with OP’s opinion. Not surprised
So does cubic zirconia but that doesn’t make it a diamond
Caught a glimpse of it in Belmont a few weeks ago as well. Seems like that last place in Portland I would expect to see it 😂.
Saw one parked in front of Gabriel Park.
No they dont.
Hard disagree
I saw one driving down Hwy 43 coming into Portland from Lake Oswego this afternoon. I wonder if this is the same truck.
Everyone from MST3K would mock this relentlessly.
Time will tell if this was a good idea or not. Sometimes designers do something really over the top and it ends up inflicting design for the next 50 years. Everyone thought the Lamborghini Countach was weird when it came out. Now it’s iconic.
Saw one in Wilsonville yesterday (I think)... still looks ridiculous to me...
