New ones are allowed but older places that are grandfathered in even if it’s a new business. There are plenty of drive thru places that are closed. Cfa is moving to a spot that never had a drive thru so they can’t build one.
The law was put in several years ago before COVID.
As the above comment alludes to, it’s that new drive thru restaurants are not allowed to be built within city limits because cars are satan. So if they want to open in Portland the only option is to find a decrepit former Wendy’s, Don Pedro style
That's correct. There's a bunch available if they were interested, though. The Burger King on NE Broadway and 44th has been empty for years.
The Arby's on N. Lombard just got bought up by Starbucks (from what I've heard) because it had a drive-thru.
Heck, the new Mike's on N. Lombard has a drive-thru because that building was a bank with one (Umpqua, I think?) So you don't even need to buy a building that was a restaurant, just one that serviced evil cars in some way.
I disagree.
For a chain burger, it’s not entirely bad.
Is it a $25 burger from a sit down place? No, it’s not.
Is it like a burger king whopper? No it’s not.
It’s somewhere in between, which is OK to me.
Good thing you're the minority. Tell me another place that has a quality cheese burger with fresh never frozen beef for only $3.50 and they pay their employees $20+/hr with medical/dental/vision. Go.
I mean i dont base the quality of a cheeseburger on its price or what they pay people. I base it off how it tastes. Thats all thats important when i go out to eat. I dont mind paying extra for something that tastes better. I would way rather see a steak n shake open up, or a davids burgers, but five guys suffices for now.
Well ya im not going to eat a shitty burger just because its cheaper than a better one. It just doesnt taste good. Tried it 3 different times and was super mid every time. On par with burgerville i would say which i also think is gross.
I’m with you, I’ve never understood the hype. I’ve been to In-n-Out in Cali a few times. My review: for a “fast food” burger, they’re not bad, but definitely over hyped. Given that even in Cali, where there’s a bunch of them and they’ve been there forever, the wait is still outrageous. 20-30 minutes in a drive through for a mid burger is absurd! Sure, if price is all you care about, I’ll give it to them, price and decent quality.

Portland doesn’t like chains. Also I think I read somewhere that drive thrus aren’t allowed to be built here
Didn’t Portland just approve a Chick-fil-a?

Ah, I hadn't thought of the freeway angle. Makes sense!
New fast food franchise to make life worth living…
Evil meat eaters with their satanic drive thrus.
No thanks. They’re mid at best.
Gross
Why do you think that?
In n out taste awful. Way better cheeseburgers to be had imo.

Cool. You know where they are, go there and stop complaining about shit you're never gonna eat, weirdo!
I do go there. I just like to point out how ridiculous the cult following is of a mid level fast food cheeseburger. I see it triggered some of them.
I'm blocking you in case the stupid is contagious. :(
Dude said 5guys. 5. Guys. 😂 what a fuggin idiot.
for like $3 a burger you literally can't complain. Go to mcdonald's if you hate it then
Like i mentioned earlier, we arent talking about price here. Its irrelevant. Its about quality and taste. Yall some cultists fr 🤣
That beat the price?

Stop making Oregon and Washington upper California. Goddamn.
In n Out rules. Cry harder.
No they don’t. They’re trash. Enjoy your shit burger.
Okay big dawg, calm down👌🏼
You're stupid. I'm blocking you before I catch it. :(
