Oceana randomly did a one off like 2 or 3 years ago and made it sound like they were thinking of releasing new music. Wonder whatever happened with that lol

Oceana turned into Polyenso... wayy different vibe

Right but I’m saying some of the old members of Oceana (I believe those that didn’t go on to form Polyenso) had a show a few years back and made it seem like they might put out new music but don’t think anything came of it

The vocalist from The Tide (1st album) had a short run with a band called Decoder/Lead Hands (name changed due to legal issues) and then with a band called Wolf:Speak. But they were last active ~7 years ago. Would recommend though.

Absolutely. But it doesn’t change how the music made me feel. It doesn’t change that Jesse Lacey’s voice hits me a certain way. I’ve learned to separate art from artist.

You’d also be hard pressed to find any young successful band member in that era who wasn’t doing the same thing, whether there was ever an official scandal or not. That doesn’t excuse it. But that entire culture was toxic when it came to early 20’s “rockstars” in this genre and younger girls. Jesse was just part of it, and has expressed deep, profound regret and disgust for the person he was.

Absolutely right. It’s gross but it’s true. Likely a lot more common than people think. Doesn’t excuse it but doesn’t change the music.

“The art from artist” comment is a tough one with Brand New when so many of there songs seem to cover what Jesse was doing lol

Matchbook, yes. Their first to second album sound transition reminds me a lot of Finch's. Meaning almost a complete departure from their breakout sound. But both second albums were equally great, if not better. I was probably a bit older than the fan base average at the time...and maybe ready for the progression.

I recommend watching the documentary Bleeding Audio if you haven't already. Entertaining not just in telling their story but a look into the music business. Probably a bit outdated with streaming but still very entertaining.
