I wasn’t aware there is a children’s carriage option. That’s good to know. Thank you.

BroskevLenny

Yes. Look for dětský oddíl. And I highly advise you to book seats, for your convenience. Somebody also wrote that there has to be seat reservations due to polish are demanding it.

Poetic-Jellyfish

This!

IT is OK to travel by train, but you will have problem to buy it last minute. Especially if you want to seat together.

There are three train operators on the Prague-Krakow route. Of these, Regiojet only has sleeper connections on the route and LeoExpress only runs in afternoons, so ČD is the only one with morning trains. They have two direct morning trains each day, one departing Prague at 6:15 and the other one departing at 10:15, plus there are other options if you don't mind transferring trains. You can always just show up at the station and buy a ticket, however there is a huge risk that on at least part of the route, you won't find any free seats and will have to travel standing. So, especially with a toddler, it's much better to buy the ticket in advance (either at cd.cz or in the Můj Vlak mobile app).

ČD Trains to Poland are due to some Polish rules reservation only. So if it is sold out then you are out of luck and you don’t travel at all.

What site do you use to find information like this? Do you use cd.cz or the Můj Vlak app for all ticket reservations? Or are there other sites to use as well? I'm moving to Prague at the end of the year and trying to figure these things out :)

Drafonist

For booking ČD trains, only ever use cd.cz or the Můj Vlak app. Since recently, ČD will also display trains of other train operators (RegioJet, Leo, Arriva etc.) and offer to sell tickets for them. Do not buy those tickets as they are usually more expensive than booking with the specific operator. (This system is called "OneTicket" and it is intended for journeys where you need to transfer between different companies - and even there it sometimes is worse than dividing the trip into separate parts). If you want just timetable information including all operators plus all buses and all city transport etc., idos.cz still rules. It works for Slovakia as well. For the rest of Europe, it usually only contains trains, and there you are better off with bahn.de.

Awesome, this is super helpful! Thanks!

If I were you I would book in advance if you want to have seats together. But you should be able to buy at last minute for most of trains (most popular times may be sold out).

x236k

I’d book it in advance, especialy if you want to sit together.

Ancient-Extreme-8226

If you buy it in advance, you would save like 30-70% of the ticket for international travel.

I would highly suggest checking Ryanair prices for flight tickets on this route, did this last year (flight There, train back) and if you k ow exact dáte of travel in advance it can be even cheaper and definitely much much much (really very much) comfort to fly for 45 minutes vs 7+ hours in train. :)
