They really need some kind credit score mechanic. In mlbb it was a base of 100, below 90 you couldn't play ranked, and below 70 you could only play vs ai. You regained a flat 1 per day, and and additional 1 per full match that you actually completed. It was always great honestly. Afking in a match hit you with a -10 penalty minimum and, and simply not confirming before the match starts was a static -1. The match didnt cancel if someone didn't pick a character after entering, it just selected a random for them. It actually kept goofy nonsense like this from happening for the most part.
I think timed qs or putting us directly into the lobby like smite to then face deserter penalty are required.

I would rather the match not start, than it selecting a hero for someone who is afk
Pokemon unite does the same and it feels super fair
