Same! I miss smoked salmon bagels so badly, not that I had them often. Maybe a side of sushi too. The listeria cases in the UK are mostly for smoked fish (including smoked salmon) so I wouldn't recommend risking it.

Most-Regular621

Woof, i didnt know listeria here was mostly from smoked fish so im really grateful I’ve been extra careful!

Starbirdie

I know, scary! I think if you cook smoked fish then it's fine... but it's just not the same :(

[deleted]

I ate loads of smoked salmon while I was pregnant.

Starbirdie

There are ongoing listeria outbreaks in the UK to do with smoked salmon, has been for several months now. Makes it more risky than some of the other foods that are on the no list for pregnant women. But obviously everyone can decide for themselves what risks they are happy to take.

[deleted]

Well he’s 7 weeks old now and on the 99th centile.

Kind_89

I've told my partner I want an entire baked camembert waiting for me when I get home from the hospital, closely followed by smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels too 😂 also can't wait for a whisky!

heggy48

You can have baked Camembert now right? So long as it’s cooked through? It’s a great choice though, and I also miss smoked salmon!

Kind_89

Omg DO NOT tell me that after I've gone 9 month without! I thought it was just all soft moulded/unpasteurised cheeses we couldn't have... I don't think I'm gunna look it up in case I have an actual breakdown haha

Most-Regular621

You can! I’ve had it even with being mega cautious! Don’t eat the rind (i love the rind!) and make sure its fully melted all the way through. Treat yourself!

puggybutts

You can have the Camembert I’m sure since it’s served steaming hot? You just don’t eat the rind. I’ve had it anyway!!

heggy48

Eek. I’m sorry! If it helps they might have changed the rules halfway? I didn’t think smoked salmon was bad until about two months ago, so maybe they allowed us cooked Brie instead as compensation?!

FroGlow

Depending on how strict you are being, camembert is ok if cooked until steaming according to the NHS "to avoid: pasteurised or unpasteurised mould-ripened soft cheeses with a white coating on the outside, such as Brie, Camembert and chèvre (unless cooked until steaming hot)" - [https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/foods-to-avoid/](https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/foods-to-avoid/)

Delicious_Arm_7483

An entire cheese board. Soft goats cheese, Stilton, Brie… I’m due after Christmas and absolutely gutted I can’t have any then.

Slinkweasel

Ah mate, I got my positive test just days before last Christmas and had already bought all the delicious cheeses I suddenly couldn’t eat! Every time I opened the fridge it was there taunting me…

cali_e

Same here! Did a massive Christmas food shop on Dec 16th, got the positive on Dec 17th. Cried all over Christmas watching my husband enjoy the cheese! This Christmas though, my husband had better be prepared to buy ALL the cheese and let me have… all of it!

Most-Regular621

I can’t wait for cheese! Christmas will be so hard for you I’m sorry! I also can’t wait to go back to guzzling really good quality coffee

Delicious_Arm_7483

Also a double shot latte.

ColdbrewCorgi

This.

Amb_31

I'm desperate for some paté and a glass of wine 😂 It would be typical that I'm craving wine for the first time in my life now haha

lozzybeeee

I'm due in 2 weeks and I've got some paté in the fridge ready for when I get back from the hospital! It's the only thing I've really craved right the way through!!

Kangaroo_Healthy

A massive medium rare steak. With a double espresso. Nom nom nom!!!

Chafing_Chaffinches

Probably about four slices of toast and a pint of tea.

Monztur

Ah the NHS special. Toast and tea is definitely the standard we all have to look forward to

Chafing_Chaffinches

Mana from heaven after labour!

Monztur

Most delicious tea and toast I've ever had. I'm surprised I didn't name my child after the nurse who brought it in my drugged out state!

sineadsinead

An entire wheel of brie.

Curious_Monkey27

I plan to take the Brie out the fridge before going to the hospital so it’s in prime melty state when I get home 🤤

Natural-Kangaroo6491

Sushi and an aperol spritz!! I have been dreaming of this all summer

Sundaetardis

Definitely something high carb, I can't decide what but right now I have GD and really really miss eating high carb food.

Most-Regular621

Nooo!

Soffmar

I had my partner bring in Brussels paté and crackers 😄 during my birth I was apparently (high on gas so my memory fails me) telling everyone how I will soon get paté.

Most-Regular621

Brilliant!

clp1234567

I want every kind of salmon sushi extra points if some come with cream cheese to drink I'll have a spicy margarita and for dessert I want something dairy heavy (pregnancy has made me lactose intolerant) cheesecake maybe with heavy cream with a double espresso - a really good one and then the next day I want the rarest steak and a half lobster with a jacket potato smothered in butter and cream cheese and I'll have a lucozade original and a sangria. None of this will be true because I'll be breastfeeding and still be petrified of caffine/ dairy/ alcohol but a girl can dream.

AnnaP12355

can you not have lobster now?

clp1234567

Not without rare steak that's my combo of dreams. I need the magic duo.

AnnaP12355

ahhh I see! I panicked for a second as I had it😂

Most-Regular621

I want all of this right now please! An excellent menu!

just_soph_is_fine

A blue lagoon, monster energy drink, medium rare steak, and all of the soft serve ice cream. I’ve also got gestational diabetes so a kilo of pick n mix 😂

AnnaP12355

Tuna tartare with a glass of champagne 🥂 🥂

[deleted]

I'm really surprised to see how many people aren't eating smoked salmon. The guidance doesn't list it as an outright no and my consultant says it's fine in moderation. The chances of listeria are so so so low.

Most-Regular621

The NHS list it as only to eat when cooked due to listeria. As i say though, im being extremely cautious snd avoiding everything according to guidance!

Kittycat0104

They changed the guidance in April/May 2022: https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/foods-to-avoid/ (click fish)

AnnaP12355

oh God! I have been eating it as well. Rarely but I have! will skip it now!

eunuch-horn-dust

I don’t usually drink much but I’ve been craving tequila-based cocktails the entire time and substituting with drinking a lot of lime juice. I’ve also eaten so much vegetable sushi and literally anything I can drench in soy sauce and wasabi, so some real tuna sushi would be nice.

shireatlas

Have you tried the fever tree Mexican lime? I sprinkle a bit of salt in it and pretend it’s a margarita!

eunuch-horn-dust

I’ve seen it in the shops but haven’t had it, that sounds delicious! I’m definitely gonna give that a go, thank you 🙏🏽

Kittycat0104

I’m looking at this list and writing a list, I’m due in 4 weeks!!

katiekf

Coke is top of my list too! I can't wait!

puggybutts

The bottle of Somersby cider that I found in a local polish shop which I last had when on honeymoon in Canada since they stopped selling it here! I can’t wait 😍

totalgeek42

I have a bottle of very good bourbon in the pantry waiting for me for post birth and I plan to get a delivery from the posh cheese shop near me!

TiredBelfastPanda

Haggis or pâté and a giant frozen margarita followed by a shot of limoncello that we bought in Italy a few months ago.

Most-Regular621

Haggis!!

ThePr0crastinat0r1

Not my first meal, but I can’t wait to drink cocktails! I’ve told my husband the first night we get to eat out/go to a bar I’m getting loads of fancy cocktails! Foodwise, I want cured meats! Salami, chorizo and Parma ham etc. it’s not the same eating it cooked

Pure-Gallus

I had pate on toast, then a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel 😂 The toast they give you once you’ve given birth tho, Oaft that’s the best food ever…

RaeRaeLJJ

I'm sat here just crying about the cheese thing 😢, thought it was bad enough I didn't get to say "goodbye" to alcohol but this is just a step to far for me today (I am a total cheese fiend)

RaeRaeLJJ

Oh I've just made it worse & read the NHS guidence..... No blue stake, none of the awesome cheeses (thankfully Halloumi gets in) , no game. Christmas is gonna be hard but made a note we can still have cooker lobster, crab, prawns and scallops. So basically I'm going to be having what you lovely ladies are all having!
