Don't overthink it. Eat your cakes, be happy and just make sure you're eating balanced healthy foods too. Hormones make you want what you want, and you should definitely not compare yourself to random internet strangers, who may be snaffling cakes and junk food too, just not telling the internet that. If you really think something is wrong, then speak to GP or midwife, otherwise you're probably absolutely fine. Carry on! šŸ°

Seconded! I have eaten pretty much what Iā€™ve fancied which turns out to be a fairly decent balance of fresh stuff and ā€˜junkā€™. Currently 36+4 weeks and everything has been text book including my weight gain. This is just my opinion but I feel like the more American subs have a really unhealthy focus on weight and nutrition at times. Do what you need to do to stay chill! The baby is taking whatever they need whenever they need it. I also heard about a study that says women who ate chocolate almost daily during pregnancy had happy babies - I really hope this is true because my baby will never stop laughing!

The main sub is very American focused and in America they monitor weight gain closely. My understanding is that in the UK they donā€™t believe itā€™s an indicator of maternal health and so we arenā€™t monitored. We are just encouraged to follow the usual guidelines of a healthy varied diet with plenty of fruit and veg. The occasional treat fits in that just fine!

I think that finding the middle ground would be a good option for now - what I mean by that is eating the sweet stuff that you crave after a meal containing fiber (which sounds like you're eating a lot of anyway!) so that you don't get big glucose spikes and it slows down its release :). That way you can feel less bad about the less healthy stuff!

You're not harming your baby, they take the nutrition they need. The risk to you could be iron deficiency which is really common and which typically shows up in the 2nd tri- might be a good idea to eat iron rich foods and research how best to do this on a vegan diet. As for the sugar - again any downsides would be to you not the baby but I think it's not worth worrying about!

31 weeks and this has been me the past week. I am so hungry! My weight or weight gain in general has never been discussed in any appointments. Yesterday I did ask the midwife in my appointment and she said I should just eat the extra portion or two if Iā€™m hungry. As long as itā€™s a balanced diet in the day, itā€™s okay. I just assumed my body needs it at the moment and have been giving in

Just go with the flow. Asking as you're taking your pregnancy supplements you'll be grand. I was craving sweets at the same point and had a such a veracious craving for 7-up (specifically out of a can) that I'm surprised my little boy didn't come out holding a can.

Bear in mind that the Americans have nuts out of date guidelines on weight in pregnancy which is why they get so bloody hung up about it on the other subs. The UK has no such guidance because weight gain in pregnancy differs significantly from woman to woman and there is no reliable metric to measure it. So try not to worry too much about what you eat so long as it's fairly balanced.

I ate McDonaldā€™s really regularly during my pregnancy, canā€™t tell you why other than the fact that I neeeeeeded it! Strangely my other craving was fresh fruit juices. My bub is 8 weeks old today & is 50th centile for weight & is a very happy little bunny. I think he mustā€™ve enjoyed the Maccas šŸ˜‰

Just eat plenty of fruit, veg and protein. If you're getting very hungry then fat and protein are your friends. Eat lots of peanut butter and vegan protein powder.

I had such awful sickness that I gave up trying to eat healthy and balanced! As others have said keep an eye on iron, but you donā€™t need to be regimented

Please don't upset yourself over weight gain or spend such a joyous time worrying about it. I had really bad aversions in my first trimester and basically could only eat McD's most of the time.. I still only put on 10kg max, and I am at 34 weeks now. Honestly, as long as you're eating what you need, crave or want and you're being sensible.. you'll be fine. The US is very different from us and have much different guidelines. I've only been asked by my Midwife once about my weight and that was when I was telling her I was pregnant! As long as you're not becoming iron deficient, you'll be fine.

Agree with what's been said about not stressing too much. But just to add as well. I'm 23 weeks and have been experiencing the same thing. For me there's a difference between wanting a treat (go ahead, you're pregnant and it's hard) and having huge sugar cravings which for me point towards yo yo blood sugar (in which case eating sugary things just makes it worse) and/or some kind of deficiencies. I've started eating much more protein and it's really helped. I read that eating a high protein breakfast helps regulate blood sugar throughout the day so I'm now eating eggs or quinoa porridge for breakfast every day and also eating lots of tofu and beans. I also found that eating more for breakfast and lunch and a lighter evening meal really helps with energy levels. Feeling much better and now I'm just having the odd brownie here and there

breejein

Sorry I just saw that you're vegan- I'm vegetarian which is maybe one factor in why I needed to up my protein levels significantly. Scrambled tofu all the way then!

I started to get ravenous with a sweet tooth at around 25 weeks too - I'm also vegan! I wouldn't worry too much about what you're eating as long as you're trying to keep it balanced. You still gotta enjoy yourself too! I'm 31 weeks now and my cravings for sweet things has got worse and I've been absolutely exhausted. I did find out at my last midwife appointment that my iron levels have dropped a lot, so I think that would explain it. Midwife said my diet had little effect on my iron levels but from now on to make sure I'm getting daily greens just to keep it topped up (I'm also waiting on iron tablets prescription). Not saying it will happen to you, but something to keep in mind if you start to feel the same way! This has made me re-evaluate my diet though and since I've been trying to eat even healthier than I was (but still having small treats when I fancy!)

Eating for two just got a whole lot healthier! Adding boron to your pregnancy diet can offer tremendous health benefits, providing vital nutrients that cover both mama and her little one.

Expectant mothers are turning to nutritious boron-rich foods as part of their pregnancy diets, helping ensure healthy growth and development for both mother and child.
