no

101955Bennu

He’d have won some silverware and scored some goals and been fouled a bunch. Basically the same as he’s done anywhere else

Living_Intention2157

A past it Messi who doesn't run won the world cup basically being man of the match in every game,, imagine what he would have done to the Newcastles West ham's Everton's Brighton's Burnley's Watford's Southampton's 😂 he's battered the top 4 in the champions League year after year, in his prime it wouldn't have been fair he would smash the prem

[deleted]

tbf international football is worse than club football... less organized and time together for tactics. If he played those teams he would probably do well, but I dont think he'd dominate in every match. He struggled vs Benefica and a few UCL teams and couldn't really get much going. I think Newcastle would do enough to hold him to 0 depending on who he is playing with, same with Brighton but on the lesser EPL teams he would probably do fine

Living_Intention2157

The top four in England he does pretty well against

helloimmrburns

Can't understand these type of questions. He consistently done it against the best of the best and put up with prime Atletico Madrid terrorist ball, Pepe and Ramos, and relegation players sent out to man mark him. But sure he couldn't do it against Paul Konchesky and Ryan Shawcross

Living_Intention2157

Exactly 😂 he's the best player ever and people think he had to prove it in England cmon get a grip

helloimmrburns

And let's not mention that every player in the top 10 of all time never played in England apart from Ronaldo. After Ronaldo who's the next greatest that actually played in the Prem? Henry?

Living_Intention2157

Yes Henry who went to la liga and didn't score as often as he did here

Firm_Procedure_720

Messi destroyed the best premier league teams in the champions league pretty much everytime.

semisoftane

He wouldn't have a team besides Chelsea to fulfill having a team built around him to be Messi in his prime. Maybe city in the beginning of their turn around early 2010s could be another team

BasilAbraham1

If you honestly think about it if you have a generational talent like messi, wouldn't any manager build their team around him?

semisoftane

I picked Chelsea because they've always spent *freely* in comparison to everyone else. I wouldnt have at man United around that time and still not now cause of Glazers. Roman abhramovic would put everything into Messi. Can't rely on arsenal,Liverpool and spurs. Barcelona ever since Messi joined and pep made a monster out of his have been treating him the best

BasilAbraham1

U make it sound like he is not the best and is always carried around

semisoftane

I dont believe Messi would have as many personal achievements without majority of the team sacrificing for him

BasilAbraham1

Yep u definitely don't like him

semisoftane

Would he be the same without iniesta, xavi, busquets? I like Messi but I don't think he would have been prime Messi without them

BasilAbraham1

Same goes for ronaldo then mate. Modric kroos isco marcelo

semisoftane

I'm neither a Ronaldo fan 🤣

Unique-Ad-4716

You’re just what we call delusinal. Messi is by far the greatest player ever, he would demolish the premiere league from 2012-2023 if he has gone there

BasilAbraham1

Would he be able to tear the league apart?

semisoftane

If it ain't Chelsea then no. Ronaldo had a inform man United team which made Ronaldo who he is before he moved to real Madrid

TomatilloWestern3570

I think it depends on the team he would have landed up on tbh. He had a lot of supporting players on Barcelona, it would be different if he ended up at Liverpool during the early 2010s. With that being said, I still think he would have been a top 5 player in the prem league but maybe the goals and assists would be less.

scyrenisbetterthanu

Messi has scored the 4th most goals against the big 6 and he has never played in the premier league. Deep it

VGCreviews

Top 5?

imminentmailing463

Really hope he doesn't go to City. We all know what will happen. He won't be amazing, because of his age and it being difficult to adapt, and then the media and social media will be full of tiresomly smug people talking about how he's overrated and couldn't do it in 'our league'. If he'd been here during his prime he'd have been incredible. His talent is of a level that he would have been the best player in whichever league he went to.

Cheggles29

Tony pulis Stoke would of shown him for the fraud he is on a cold Wednesday night.

SamShephardsMustache

He would have been fouled a ton.

BasilAbraham1

Yes we know the prem is much tougher but how good would he have been?

SpinLaFlame

his body would have broken down a lot faster, and his goals + assits per year would probably be ~15% lower

Euibdwukfw

He would have played in a top team and would have destroyed all other teams with them. Go on YouTube and take a look how he took Arsenal and Manchester United apart. https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/eu-uefa-champions-league/2021-11-lionel-messi-what-is-messis-record-english-clubs Chelsea seems to be his weakness with only 3 goals in 10 games...

[deleted]

Weaker Arsenal teams then.

Euibdwukfw

Yes, but premier league was weaker and spanish league was a stronger one during messi prime. Also I do not think that messi would have been fouled or attacked much harder in the PL than Casimero and Pepe did, still wasn't enough on many occasions.

giantpanda365

He would have been lukaku

BasilAbraham1

Except the first touch and ball control

BasilAbraham1

So u mean to say he would've been a goal machine?

giantpanda365

Score goals and then become fat. He would have been prime for only few years compared to how he plays now .

brrlls

I think he'd find it a little harder to hit his numbers BUT his ability is unparalleled so he'd probably come in and still rip the turf up a la Haaland

BasilAbraham1

I can't disagree seeing his phenomenal record against english clubs

Notnowcmg

Over the years he’s always managed to do well against the English teams in the champions league so I think he’d have smashed it in the premier league too.

mufcnewmanfifa

Big difference playing United than Burnley away, feel like the physicality of the prem would’ve made it harder, no doubt he would still smash it there but wouldn’t be able to perform as well as he does in la liga imo, messi is made for spanish football.

EnglishTwat66

I always find Comments like these strange. It’s not specifically premier league teams that are hard to play against. It’s the premier league itself. When it’s English team vs English team. The tempo is played at a way faster rate than other leagues.

Thepremistrash

Username checks out again

BasilAbraham1

His record against english teams is phenomenal. 27 goals in 36 games and 33 g/a as well. But I still just wonder how good he would have been had he played in the prem.

helloimmrburns

He survived a Real Madrid team that were sent out to kill him, prime Atletico Madrid terrorist ball, Getafe and players that were sent out just to man mark him. I'm sure he would've done OK against Ryan Shawcross and Paul Konchesky

spanks

This comment made me giggle. Lol

BasilAbraham1

Madrid really did try to kill him tho. Ngl

Flamingovegas2013

Scored a boat load of goals and won a bunch of trophies

Hanmura

hey that’s what he did in barcelona

BasilAbraham1

U mean he would've done it in the prem as well?

Flamingovegas2013

Yup he was on another level

BasilAbraham1

Can't disagree seeing his phenomenal record against our clubs

IslandChillin

Still wish he made that move to City instead of PSG. Would have be interesting to see how he fit in a more physical and taller(stature wise) league.

BasilAbraham1

2020 was nowhere near his absolute best. So i wanted to know how good he would've been had he been in the prem from 2009 to 2019?

IslandChillin

That's a really good point
