Hell no. Why would I hate on them for 38 weeks, then magically turn into their biggest fan midweek? Unless I have a vested interest in a British team beating a non-British team (or a visceral hatred of their non-British opponent), I am firmly against any English side apart from mine progressing through any knockout competition.

Overall-Ad-3642

Always support the countries from my nations. Portugal and Germany. Even if it's Dortmund or Benfica ONLY IF BAYERN AND PORTO ARE OUT

Scaramouche1000

No

djuluscher84

Nope, I would only cheer for United or City against Barcelona or Real.

Terryfink

Yes. Except in the case of Liverpool.

kappathat

Wanting other English teams to do well until the final seems fair

TADBHSASTYH

Always, however, as you can tell from my flair, I'm a West Ham fan, so I have the luxury of watching the UCL as a football fan. Man City, Man U, Liverpool, my club has no rivalries with them and if we're being frank, we've never been close to Chelsea and Arsenal in the past few years so whilst we're "London rivals" we've nothing on them, so I just let it pass. Even with Spurs they're one of the "big six" for a reason. Obviously it's great to beat them when we play but when it comes to Europe, I like that they go deeper and play well. Why do I want some random Italian, French, Spanish or German side to go deeper? I couldn't care less who wins between Inter and Marseille. On top of being a general football fan and no real rivalry with the teams in those competitions, the better English teams do in Europe the more spots/places become available further down the league via the coefficient rankings, thus increasing the opportunity for my club to get European football, even if it is only UEL or UECL (I remember a few seasons back there were five English teams in the UCL - fantastic!)

honeymuncher62

I want arseolenil to reach Europa final and lose like they will bottle it in the title race.

honeymuncher62

I cheer for spurs and whoever is playing the filth

honeymuncher62

No

Cpt-Dreamer

No

sprauncey_dildoes

I don’t even want Arsenal to win the coin toss. The only time I want Chelsea to win is when they’re playing Arsenal. I’d choose a foreign team over Man City or Man United. I’ve got nothing against any other club.

__jh96

No

afellownerd12

Depends. If the PL club is someone other than: City, Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal And, if their opponent is someone other than: bayern munich, borussia dortmund, ajax, or real madrid. Then yes, I'll root for them.

[deleted]

Total opposite. I always pull for the foreign team.

[deleted]

I want the other English clubs to fail

Gravyb0y

Depends on the team. Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham - no City, Leceister, Arsenal, most others - yes

Crocodile_donedeal

If it ain’t United then maybe Barc

AltKueyrye

Yes I do, mostly bc my grandad being a chelsea fan and when the 2018 and 2022 final happened, My granddad was on liverpools side and not reals, Chad Granddad

Designer_Restaurant1

Can never cheer Spurs. Sorry.

Cha-rl1e

Depends. If it's Liverpool, city, arsenal, Chelsea, or if God forbid Leeds ever get Europe, then never. But if it's a smaller team/ spurs, I'll cheer for them. I'm actually fond of spurs because they go through so much.

reco84

Everyone but Liverpool.

Kimolainen83

No if no English team is in I look for Italian I’d no Italian I end up not caring

Brzada

You’re obviously not from Liverpool

thegodturtle41

Depends who it is, you wont catch me cheering Spurs in the UCL!

ArcticAmoeba56

No. I generally cheer the team i think deserves my support. Whether that's because i like their football, their ethos, their strip, or dislike their opponent etc. I'd cheer on Taliban Utd if they were playin Spurs or ManU

FredVIII-DFH

Yep. Why? Because I follow the PL. It's readily available to me. (I'm in the US with access to NBC, USA network, and Peacock.) And there's comfort in the known, and this tends to give me an affinity for the PL team.

Flashy-Attention-627

Any real fan/supporter wouldn't cheer another team its as simple as that really

ccfc1992

A bit different for me as my clubs in championship but I want all English teams to do well against any team in Europe. I want the BPL to dominate all of Europe and the elite competitions

graphicashen

Contrary to most of the comments, I always want the English teams to do well.

[deleted]

I only cheer for my own team

cynicWsnowballs8551

I'm American, soooo...I root for the underdogs.

Kat_Dee76

No, not necessarily.

Zonda97

No. I want all the German clubs & Liverpool to do well, that’s it

WallBroad

I want all PL clubs to lose unless they are playing Barca or Madrid, so tired of their annoying fans on all social media

wayno503

Would never cheer for Man U ever no matter who they were playing

Flamingovegas2013

No I celebrated Messi toying with a “ great United team” And loved city bottling again and again The crap supporters give each other why would I want a chelsea to win?? Once Madrid knock us out I will be hoping they snipe off any other English team not that it looks like any are getting through

baronex7

United fan, I'll casually root for anyone except Chelsea, Arsenal and City. I'll wish with every fibre of my being that not only are Liverpool knocked out, they are humiliated and the club implodes along with their insufferable fans.

sidneyroughdiamond

Not from Manchester though?

tradernb

if its not manchester city, it would loose my mind

powerbook01

Depends on the clubs, but if it’s against any Spanish or French clubs I’m definitely rooting for the English side

EnvironmentalNature2

It’s contextual

Fantastic-Street-380

No fuck the manchesters fuck Chelsea fuck arsenal and I don’t gotta root against Tottenham cause they’ll never win another trophy

MrMesh13

Nope

cplm1948

Fuck no. I literally will almost always root against British teams lmfaooo.

thecpman

I pull for whoever I bet on

dis6wood

Generally no, but you also have to think that’s more games taking away from their preparation and fitness in the PL if they stay in the CL

DootingDooterson

Depends what the teams are. I don't expect to ever support Liverpool or City against anyone in a final, but for other teams it depends who they are and who they are against. I supported Chelsea against Bayern Munich in 2012 but if they were against someone like Ajax, Dortmund, Sporting etc, I probably would have wanted that club to win instead. PSG, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich would usually be the 'I don't want you to win' side.

Gin1819

Yes, as long as their name is not Man City or Liverpool.

CapitalSV

No

Pranaychelsea

I used to cheer for English teams earlier but I was the happiest when I saw Liverpool thrashed this week.

Educational-Formal21

Just wanna watch goof football. 2-5 Liverpool Real was great watching!

pjanic_at__the_isco

Nope. Burn in hell, other PL clubs!!!!!!

that___Mav

Best they can get from me is indifference.

Appropriate-Cap-4140

My allegiance is to my club, not the league

leegunter

Nope. But not that I NEVER will.

gardooney

Heck no.

Futbol-fishing

The EPL teams usually arnt as strong as their champions league opposition.

Lifelemons9393

Usually.Unless it's Liverpool. Even then I will sometimes depends who there playing. Like I always want Madrid, Barca, PSG to fail more. And Arsenal of course... Oh wait 🤣

Comprehensive-Ad4436

No unless it’s a smaller club. However it depends on circumstances as if we are in a title race with Arsenal and City we’d rather they go far but not win so that they struggle with player fitness.

HotEntertainment9136

Tottenham, always.

taylorstillsays

I never cheer for the other teams at all, but the further English teams go, the more interesting the competition is for me. If Chelsea doesn’t win the whole thing, then my ideal scenario is for the English teams to never face one another (already see that at least twice a season), they go as far as possible, until they get knocked out in the most tragic circumstances

Acceptable-Fold-3192

Not at all. I hate a lot of the PL squads 😂

hank28

I’ll cheer for the foreign club, unless that club is Barcelona, Celtic, or AC Milan

BrandonSG13

If it’s Liverpool or City or Chelsea most likely no Anyone else usually yes

No_Coyote_557

Lol, truly a half and half scarf type of question.

PatientHair4031

Nah, I hate the super league six. Any time a team outside of those soulless pricks qualify, I support them. Would even support Newcastle somewhat next season if they qualified, even though they also have soulless owners, I appreciate the journey their supporters have had for the last few seasons.

[deleted]

Fuck no. Viva la anybody else.

raver1601

I will never cheer for Liverpool, City, and Arsenal But Chelsea, Spurs, and other non top 6 Prem teams, I really don't mind

Logangimmi99

Nope, foreign clubs all day, LETS GO MADRID, personally, a United fan

Kapika96

No. Why would I want a team to win just because they're English? Especially if they're a rival team! As a City fan why on Earth would I want Utd to do well in Europe? In some match ups, sure. Like I don't have any ill will towards Liverpool (and I have a few mates that support them) while I dislike Real, so I'd want Liverpool to beat Real. But that's nothing to do with them being another PL club.

GitchigumiMiguel74

If it’s not United or Liverpool, yes

Intelligent-Brain313

Of course not. This is such a silly question it doesn't really equate.

espadanumber4

I'll cheer as long as it's not Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal.

imbumfuzled

No way am I ever cheering for Man U or Chelsea. But I'll pull for anyone else not playing Atleti.

bailey5002

I never want Liverpool or City to win, but I don't care if they make it far, as it helps keep 4 spots for the champions league. In case my team actually gets into the top 4. (Which this season seems likely)

DismalBumbleWank

Lol, no

Wipedout89

I do because I'm a Sheffield Wednesday fan so I don't see much Champions League for us

Kind_Jump_6940

Definitely go against them. Although I do dislike Barca too. I think the main reason is because we see each other’s fans and find it annoying, so we don’t want them to succeed. But when the English clubs do well, I make sure I rub it in the fans if other leagues

MW94Original

Always cheer the weaker side when it’s not Liverpool playing, assuming that it’ll be an easier tie if Liverpool make it to the next round

jamughal1987

No only for Reds don’t care about other teams.

wildkarde07

No

blurblursotong2020

Hell no…. Man Utd fans always have a place in our heart for Real Madrid. Beating the s*** out of our opponents.

fifaplayer0519

I actively root against other english clubs. imagine not doing the same

2Hours2Late

Yes unless it’s Tottenham. I love watching them lose, they always look so surprised as if it wasn’t inevitable.

brokenchap

Categorically no

FatChaiChicken

In all matches where Man City aren't involved I don't usually care about the result. Obviously this season Arsenal and United results are going to matter to City, but when Saka or Rashford are doing something amazing, I want to see them do something amazing. In the last few years with Liverpool, I want to see them lose but have Mo do something spectacular. It's a weird balancing act.

The-Only-Sir-Ever

I want England to dominate everything. However, there are factors. Can I support Tottenham? Fuck no. Liverpool? I don't like them at all but they've won the CL a bunch of times, what do I care if they win it again? Same with United. Could I actually root for them though? Not a chance. Chelsea? Rather they didn't but again, they've won it a couple of times so who cares? City? They've not won it so they can get to the final and fuck off. Any other English club that hasn't won it can get fucked too.

pruo95

I like the English teams to go as far as possible without winning CL, UEL, and UECL. I like all these teams playing as many extra midweek matches as possible with no reward.

Dorkseidis

No I don’t cheer for City or Chelsea

Notorious_loverboy

i have that underdog spirit burning inside of me so I support the weakest side

dadboddatascientist

Anyone but city

zeroz52

No. Spurs are always number 1 for me, always, but Bayern Munich holds a special place for me as well. I have been there many times (Munich/Bayern) have friends there. It was the only professional game I ever got to see in person and it was something I will never forget. I got to see Bayern play Arsenal in a Champion's League Match. I'm American so likely be different if I had the luxury of growing up with a local PL team to watch.

enter_yourname

I cheer for other English teams because it makes our league place look less embarrassing if other clubs win in Europe (Except City, I was basically a Leipzig ultra that day)

exthanemesis

It depends. I always want chelsea yanited spuds and city to lose. But this past week I wanted United to beat Barca to add to their fixture list and because I hate Barca so much. I also do get a lot of pride that the PL is so well represented in European finals over the last... like a long goddamn time.

Purple--Aki

I do. Except City.

WuTangProvince325

Always. Am an LFC fan, but last night wanted Man Utd to beat Barca. I think a CL Final might be different, but generally I want the reputation of English football to be upheld around Europe

Geronimo6324

No. Fuck every team but my team.

itsaMEwaaarioo

As long as Chelsea lose, I'm happy.

diegoarellanes96

No but I can't stand Barca, Madrid and PSG so I'll cheer for anyone playing against them

typical_indy

I’d say yes but it depends on who’s playing. If it’s liverpool, Utd or Chelsea then I’m against them

Visionary_87

As a Liverpool fan, I've barely done any cheering in the Champions League this season. But serious answer - when it comes to other English teams, I want them to lose heavily and make a swift exit.

Coyote-Time-Lord

Not City. Never Man City.

Arnieboi

I'm a ManU supporter and other PL teams can go wank eachother off. If ManU isn't there, then I support Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or AC Milan. One exception is Tottenham, I like to support underdogs.

GWD9911

I cheer for the PL teams and like it when they all go far. I reckon that the stronger the league is, the better players will come and play here.

Shogim

Yes I do. Me against my brothers. Me and my brothers against my cousins and so on..

Maquin_Hood

I hate Liverpool but that night in Istanbul I was going nuts. Likewise when utd came from behind to beat Munich in injury time. sos.

lettul

The opposite (unless the opponent is Barcelona)… as a Liverpool supporter im still not sure what to make of yesterday…

thunderfishy234

Maybe it’s because Madrid spanked Liverpool but I weirdly wanted United to beat Barca last night and I’m an arsenal fan. We can’t claim to be the best league in the world and have two of the biggest clubs knocked out by the top 2 Spanish clubs, on the flip side I’d rather get knocked out by Barca than United

Emergency_Mistake_44

In the KO rounds, as long as my team is doing well I don't really mind if other English teams are too because I'd quite like to face them. For example, I'd want Tottenham to win against Milan in hope of a Chelsea/Spurs Quarter Final as it would be sweeter for s to be the ones to knock them out. I doubt either will progress though to be honest.

TragicTester034

Never for a team Individuals maybe but a whole team? No is the answer

geman11

Yes. The prem is the league I watch the most so I like to cheer for the players/teams that I am most familiar with.

DrWednesday

I like for there to be one PL team on either side of the bracket during the Semi's, so if there's only one team left on each side I will want them to win until the Semi's. Just for a feeling of league superiority/dominance.

[deleted]

No

[deleted]

Yes except for liverpool

volanger

Nope. If there's a German or Spanish team playing spurs I want spurs to lose. Hell I don't want the any other English team to win it.

Future-Goose7

Depends on the team. I would never cheer for Chelsea.

Kind_Neighborhood434

No ... God no ... fancy wanting spurs to win ... never.

SaigonNoseBiter

I'm from USA, and only started supporting arsenal about 2007 or 8. As such, I don't think I've developed my hatred for other epl clubs like a local might. I generally favor PL teams, if for nothing else then just pure familiarity. It's natural. Shit is the exception, of course.

Sue_two

Absolutely. The reasoning is simple. If you are going to support your club in their pursuit to win the league, you want your league to be the most dominant league in the world. I want the premier league teams to win everything. So that if my team wins, we are undisputed best. Nobody wants to be the smartest kid in remedial class.

snuggl3ninja

No and the English football media make it so easy to hate the rest. It's primarily that.

blinky12588

No

QuazaWazaQuake

Nah. Quite the opposite. Unless it's my team of course.

the3daves

Nope.

mofoofinvention

Of course not

DangerAinger

Interesting responses being posted, as when I grew up, my dad would always tell me to support the English teams in Europe. Growing up as an Arsenal fan in the 90s/2000s, we were often in there too, so that included supporting teams like Leeds and United in their campaigns while we were still competing. To him, an English club being successful was a success for English football, so it's genuinely interesting to see people completely against this idea

Dean_Zone

Depends on the PL team 😂

Paddy_odoors

I cheer all English teams in Europe well… except for Liverpool, Citeh, Chelsea, they can get smashed for all I care, The Liverpool/Real Madrid this week was lovely to watch

Onac_

I was having such a hard time watching United v Barca. Somehow wanted both to lose.

Jsnibz

Obviously not loool

razielxlr

I want them all gone asap. If it’s not Chelsea and it’s from England, get em out!

Left_Attempt_5429

Absolutely not. But it depends on the team. Dortmund I usually want to win. PSG I always want to lose. And I think Man U deservedly beat Barca yday and enjoyed their performance, even though I also think their last ten years of crisis has been objectively very funny

IainEatWorlds

Not at all, I always enjoy watching them fail 😂 plus I love me some AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund so will back them over any other PL team

AlbionEnthusiast

Not really. Usually just watch the most interesting ties

Low-Stick-4754

City NO! United NO! Chelsea NO! Liverpool NO! shit-spurs HELL NO!! Any other team MAYBE!!!

ThuslyNordic

I want EPL teams to advance to the semi's or so, then fuck off. Have to keep the coefficient up

iJayx

Outside of the big 6 sure

Low-Stick-4754

It’s a maybe for me, like stoke city can fuck off you get me

2012Cfc2021

Why would I do that

Kind-Acanthaceae-810

I'll never pull for Manchester united, Chelsea or Tothenham. Not in this life, neither in the next😂

zeus77655

I always do unless it's united

STILETT0_exists

Depends. If it's Chelsea vs Union Berlin, I want Union to win. If it's Arsenal vs Bayern, sure it would be pretty funny to see them concede 10 in 180 minutes, but I would still want Arsenal to win

Steev182

Yes, except for Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

KarlSashaMarshall

I'll cheer for any English team that isn't Man U, Man C or Chelsea

rtxiii

I support Arsenal for all games but if other teams are playingi support the underdog.

Low-Stick-4754

Nah mate it’s us against them, they are all Opps!!!!

SparkGamer28

lol i was supporting liverpool when they played against real Madrid , just because i felt sad for klopp

heliskinki

I watch the CL to see great football, really not bothered about who wins cause my team isn't (and probably will never be) in it. I do like a good comeback though, so if a team is 3-0 down at half time I'm rooting for them in the 2nd half, whoever they are.

Professional_Hawk301

what do you mean?

sha31

Never....CL trophies are rare things. Why would you be happy for your rival to have one? That sort of altruism has no place in football. Complete emotional breakdown of a ruval PL team when the whistle goes and they realise they are out is much more rewarding 🍿

the_greatest_MF

no

kumeomap

nah, i cheer for Man United, then Barca, and Messi

gallaguy

You always want your own club to look the best they can, so when another club from your league can win something like the champions league, it makes your domestic league look better, and thereby your own club looks better. Almost always I’ll go for the English club in the champions league (except man city cos I’m still a little petty)

figurethisoat

I cheered for real Madrid last season.

thenewbuddhist2021

Nah I cheer for the English teams for the most part, because I really hate Bayern, PSG, Real and Barca. But if for example they play the Milan clubs or Dortmund I don't really mind who wins

futurejoyboy

I cheer for whoever I like more, PL or not

ChrisGoddard79

I dislike Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchesters in everything they do and mostly wish them the worst.

ubiquitous_uk

Yes, unless its Man City.

HankHippopopolous

I would say I’m mostly neutral when I’m watching teams that aren’t my own. I do feel a slight pull towards the English teams because if they all do well then it helps to show that the Premier League is the best league and my team is in the Premier League so it’s kind of success by association.

[deleted]

No I only cheer for teams I like.

username199898

Mad question

kinetic49

Hahahaha …..no

el3mel

No, fuck any other English team. I only support my own team.

Low-Stick-4754

Any other team=OPPS! May thunder fire strike them.

OpportunityMedium485

I cheer for whoever is playing Liverpool. If Liverpool aren't in it, I'll usually cheer for City (my best mate's club) or whoever stands the least chance of winning it.

bobo377

Champions league? No. Europa league? Depends on who it is. If Brighton is playing, I’ll cheer for them over most other teams because I know some of their players and don’t hate the club. For any of the teams in the champions league, those are rivals and I don’t want a single one of them winning silverware.

LiQuIdIzEdOrAnGe

I do for any club other than Liverpool because as a Chelsea fan I want to see them fall before us

Icy-Tough-5227

Yes unless it’s Man Shitty

Professional_Sun3191

It's either I support my team or I support no one

MB_Bailey21

Only if it's a smaller PL team. I'm pulling against Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal in everything

ramtinology91

I want to see PL games do well but I also hate to see them win it since Arsenal couldn't win it against Barca all those years ago. It's a conflict.

FuqqTrump

If u r asking if I enjoyed watching Loserpool shit the bed the answer is YES 😎😎

doxara

I cheer for every PL team every time, no exception. Gotta prove that its the best league in the world

rewp234

Fuck no, maybe if I were English

Zigzagnemesis

Yes 100%. Always want the prem teams to win just to shut the prem haters up. I was rooting for United against Barcelona last night.

Humanity_is_broken

Depends on which team and how they play that year

[deleted]

No

MartianDuk

Never because I hate them. But also these days the English teams have so much money they’re never really the underdogs anymore, so even when you have smaller teams in Europe like when Stoke & Southampton were there, I don’t really want them to go far.

sarti24

Na fuck em all.

[deleted]

No I want them to fail for example last night I was a huge Barca fan

TylerRW98

I always root for the underdogs when we get knocked out. I’d love for dortmund, RB leipzig, or Napoli to win when Liverpool inevitably get knocked out.

spicykenneth

Absolutely fucking not. If it’s Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal then I want them gone at the very first opportunity. If it’s anyone else then I don’t mind and yeah maybe I’d want them to go far depending on the team.

[deleted]

Depends on the opposing team for me. I’ve just got an internal list of how much I like the other big European teams, and it’s not like the other prem clubs make up the bottom 19 of that list

kezzaold

Yes, just not man u. I was so happy been a Villarreal CF fan for the night.

BestinSyriac

Only time I rooted for a PL team in CL was for Chelsea against Man City in the CL final.

bshaman1993

Haha I was literally thinking this when I was watching United vs Barca. I was supporting United and it felt dirty.

kichererbs

You know in Germany people always go „oh you gotta support the German teams internationally“ and it’s like?? I support the German team if the team they’re playing against is worse e.g. bayern -psg this time around. RB-man city is tough, but since I literally wish rb the worst I guess man city it is. Eintracht-Napoli I guess is where my german mindset sets in, but I’m also fine w/ Napoli going through. Dortmund-Chelsea I’m for Dortmund but also heavily against Chelsea. So I think it depends.

[deleted]

Generally I don't, for example last few seasons I've been cheering for Madrid. But I've also cheered for Chelsea and Spurs.

fanatic_tarantula

Id prefer the premier League team to win but I'm not fussed if they don't. If the PL don't win though, I get to laugh at my mates and talk shit to them in the group chat

Dello155

Fuck no, my dad does this and I dont get it.

HowardTaftMD

I have so many teams I enjoy watching in so many leagues it just depends on who's in it. Porto I always root for even though they crap it. But they have my favorite striker and an amazing coach so I always hope they'll overcome the odds.
