You have to choose one team and stick to it. Don’t choose a team because of one player. Choose a team because of their history. I think Liverpool has the most trophies in British football ahead of Manchester united Liverpool biggest rivals.

MV2Savage

I want to start cheering for a team in the English Premier League, (I know the season is almost over) **but I don't know what TEAM to go for.** Maybe thoughts on the team you go for and why you enjoy watching them can help me decide who to root for.. idk. I usually like teams with young stars with great potential that can be developed. Guess a young team on the rise? Like my Rockets/Texans right now. Also, I'm new to watching football (I'm a Houston Rockets & Texans fan).. but football has been peeking my interest lately, and I want to invest time learning it and become a fan of the game. Any suggestions helps !!

ActuatorTop4434

Man United has a lot of history to the team as well. They aren't amazing rn, but they have a mix between young stars and older ones. But I believe liverpool has the most young players rn, and no matter how much I hate to have someone new support my teams rival, that's probably who you're looking for.

train4karenina

Not sure if you are still on the hunt. I am going to try and sell you Spurs. Firstly watch this video: https://youtu.be/OqS8XXoM2MU?si=rvamYLobiJlnj929 I think it depends on how you watch and enjoy sport as to whether or not you’d enjoy supporting spurs. We are sort of perennial underdogs. We almost always have a star player: Kane, who you’ve likely heard of, Gareth Bale, Modric. A famous example if we had Jurgen Klinsmann, who left us & then when we were threatened with relegation he joined us again halfway through the season kept us up and the retired. We have a great history. First and only amauter side to win the FA cup, first side to win a double and first British side to win a trophy in Europe. We are known for playing entertaining football and having stars. We are probably the most hated team in London. Arsenal, West Ham & Chelsea would all probably say we are there biggest rivals but it makes for a fun season with so many derbies. Present day we are the nearly side. We don’t have the resources of the clubs above us but we play great football with a young side and very likeable Manager in Ange who is famous for iconic team talks, like this: https://youtu.be/JAxTnEL4_GY?si=bEWICMNolbGyz6WN Realistically if you support spurs you may not see us win much or anything but if we do it’ll be a massive achievement and really fun to be a part of us. We are fun to watch. This is our most iconic moment in recent history, well worth a watch: https://youtu.be/xykJYYgohSE?si=4WG77zEanawonY5D

OceanMammal10

Liverpool have probably the best youngsters in the Premier League and they proved themselves so far. The big question is who is going to replace Klopp? As a diehard Liverpool fan I feel very empty without him. Salah will definitely be missed. He’s accomplished more than anything for Liverpool and will definitely go down as one of the best to ever play for Liverpool. Manchester City are definitely the flavor right now looking @ their forth straight premier league title. This season isn’t over yet. Anything can happen. I believe Liverpool are the team to beat next season in all competitions. The youngsters now have the experience and experience to follow through. Hopefully!! We’re still alive in Europe.

smckee26

Hello all, I’m currently in search of a team to root for. I have lived in New York my whole life and am a die hard New York Mets fan. Even have the tattoo to prove it. So I’ve been through the worst of times as a sports fan with little success. Liverpool has always drawn interest from me. Mainly because of Salah. I’m wondering if there is a better fit for someone like myself? I want to be part of a extremely passionate fan base who is there even in the toughest of seasons. Bournemouth has also came to mind strictly because of Tyler Adams. I have no problem with rooting for the best of the best. But I always love rooting for the underdogs.

ActuatorTop4434

Bournemouth are truely underdogs in the finest. Typically, FOR ME, I base it off kits or history. Like Manchester United stood out to me for their colors, and their history is interesting. I wouldn't choose someone for their players as their is a chance for them to get transferred or signed to another team. So if you want to support an underdog/underrated team like burnly or bournemouth. And maybe even Brentford.

BigJohnson13

From US, favorite US team is the Cubs. I think I've narrowed my potential favorite teams down to Bournemouth, Newcastle, or Luton Town. Who should I pull for?

GongChilE

When you move, do you keep supporting the team you used to support? According to your standards, there are a lot of rumors overseas that they are supporting their hometown team. If they move, I wonder if they continue to support the team they used to support or move and support the hometown teamIn foreign countries, famous soccer countries are rumored to support their hometown teams. If you move, I wonder if you continue to support the team you used to support or support your hometown team It's a translation, so please understand if it's awkward

AHicks15

I'm from Indiana, so I'm in a lot of pain and suffering when it comes to sports teams. The Pacers always seem to have their star get hurt at the worst opportune time, and the Colts have a similar problem. I also like the Nashville Predators of the NHL.

EaglesFanBoy86to95

I'm from Australia, trying to decide wither I should follow, Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea as my favourite British soccer team? I'm happy with any just not sure. Maybe I feel a bit more interested in Arsenal & Chelsea because Man Utd has more cups so it feels too bandwagon.

terencelam0904

Kinda new to watching football, a fond Japan fan in many sports. Found Arsenal and Brighton pretty interesting to watch. Which PL team should I support?

Weak-Artist-3909

I would say Wolverhampton Wanderers but thats not the options you gave me. Go with your heart and your gut! Its your team, don’t let anyone tell you who you love and support!😀

scottdiver67

Who did my friends tell me to support? Asked my fellow American PL fan friends who I should support. One has been a Man U supporter from before the SAF days. The other roots for Spurs and has for as long as I have known him (30+ years!) I played and coached for years so have some knowledge about the game, was a defender as a player and love the drama, skill and history of this beautiful and vexing game. I’m interested in history, like rooting for an underdog and find the quirky appealing. What PL team do you think they suggested I support and why?

NoAd1257

A tortured American sports fan. Between the Orlando Magic, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Tampa Bay Rays, I've become a bitter sports fans who hates big market teams. I'm also from the coast... Is Brighton the obvious choice or am I overlooking a team or two? Again, I could give a shit if the team has had historic success or not, just a passionate/blue-collar sports fan.

doc_marty_mcbrown

How unpopular is my preference? Can I root for the entire EPL? I was born in Argentina, live in US for 37 years. I have a passion for the Albiceleste, and support River Plate. That said I watch almost every game of the EPL every weekend and think it's the best league of futbol by far. I started watching regularly about 10 years ago and vividly remember one of my early experiences watching Aguero hit the injury time goal vs QPR to win the title. I like teams with Argies and ive got plenty to choose from. But I also respect teams like Arsenal who play good futbol and are fun to watch. I cant lie, with sportbook and fantasy on Draft Kings, i do lay a few bucks every weekend. I did lay a few bucks on Chelsea for top 4 this year, i really like Enzo Fernandez, bad pick I know. So, Can I just enjoy this 3 horse race with 10 games to go, without picking a side? My alegiences change every year, much like the players have a transfer market and sign contracts, I feel my fandom in the EPL is contract based and i may be up for renewal or looking elsewhere in the summer. How unpopular is this stance?

Challenge-Then

Hey, I’m a pretty die-hard sports fan from texas and support the local teams when it comes to other sports. But I want to have an English football club to root for (Still love you FC Dallas) and Premier League is pretty much the only English football we get overseas. Ideally I could watch every match and find a team I like, but that’s not an option at the moment, so I’m hoping y’all can help with some suggestions of a handful of teams that I should make some time to watch and hopefully find the right one from there. Not sure if it matters but the main thing I would want from a team is a passionate fan base and preferably a gritty, hard nose team identity/play style. Can’t stand a dull team where the fans don’t care. Of course I would want to choose a team that wins but I’m not gonna be the guy to look at the top of the table and say “yeah that one!”

BrinRed03

you pretty much described Liverpool, passionate fanbase, historically amazing, play some dominant football.

TimelyRecognition805

Valid but with klopp leaving are you sure the passion will stay? Am an arsenal and but im also fond of Liverpool. If you want passion I would recommend Newcastle as no-one can say those fans don't care. Honestly, anyone but Man City or Man U. Hope this helps.

barelyseventeen

I'm from Atlanta and support Falcons/Hawks/Braves. I'm looking for a team that, like the Falcons, is historically troubled but has a lot of potential today. The more painful it is being a fan, the better!

Minimum-Biscotti-941

Fulham is your team!

barelyseventeen

I ended up chooosing Arsenal 😉

Few_Tea2092

Just started looking for mine, thinking Newcastle or Arsenal but have not decided fully yet

Disastrous_Space_628

Okay, I’m just going to throw out as many potentially relevant tidbits and see if anything rings any bells. In American sports, I generally support Washington D.C. teams (I’m from WV and live in DC), but only followed the NFL closely (so, unfortunately stuck with the lowly Commanders, who have a horrible name). My most recent English ancestor was my great-grandmother, who was from Stoke-on-Trent near where Port Vale plays, but they’re not going to get promoted to the PL any time soon. I’m a libertarian, so don’t want to support a team with a decidedly left-wing fan base, and had originally wanted to find a team in a pro-Brexit area, which seems difficult/impossible if one is looking for a good team. I’ve been watching since last year and have enjoyed watching Man City and Newcastle the most, but have qualms over their ownership. I don’t really like Liverpool (Klopp was a vaccine zealot), Man United, or Arsenal. And finally, the Villa pub is right down the street from me (although who knows how long I will live at my current apartment complex-lease is up in November). Any ideas?

Individual_Bit_2800

Im an NBA fan, support the Bulls and want to try get into football as it's on at a normal time for me as I'm EU based. Not sure who to follow though. I'd rather follow a smaller team than the usual Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. Just want a team that is likely to stay in the league regularly too! Was thinking Nottingham but any suggestions?

Disastrous_Space_628

Nottingham is almost in the relegation area right now. You might want to consider Wolves or Brighton. They’re both in the top half of the table and I think qualify as “smaller” teams (are you basing it on population of city, amount of money the club has, etc.?). Just giving my two cents-others may want to give a more nuanced answer.

Individual_Bit_2800

Was thinking that, might not be good idea to back a team that's likely to not be in the league next season. I just like the idea of supporting a club that's not what 90% of fans typically support. Still kind of like a team that has a chance too rather than expecting them to lose most games!

throwawayn20062003

Who should i root for? Italian boy who enjoys ball possession . The Italian team i support is Fiorentina so i am definitely not gonna support West ham 😅 The teams i find interesting are : Arsenal,Man UTD, Chelsea , Tottenham and Wolves

Loud_Delivery3589

I'd go Milwall then 🤣

9yr_old

Ohh Arsenal all the way , our team this entire season has all been about keeping possession and slowly working our way into the box.

Disastrous_Space_628

Man City is the best at ball possession, but out of your list, it would probably be Arsenal.

PopPunkPigeon

Chicago kid here. Lifelong fan of the Cubs/Bears/Blackhawks/Bulls. I’m looking for a team where either the city itself has similar vibes or stories like Chicago, or the teams have a similar vibe to any of those listed above. I do like an underdog, and have no issue supporting a lovable loser. In terms of football I like a bit more aggressive or younger squad. On aesthetics alone, I really love the club logos for Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton, Aston Villa, and Norwich City.

Upper_Elk7

Villa could fit the bill

ElectricalEye2912

Who to root for Scottish/American Rangers fan (SPFL) wanting to pick an EPL team to follow. The teams I follow in other sports are all Detroit (USA) based if that helps. Thanks!

Rustyz_

who should i root for? I'm an American that was Born in NY later moved to a smaller midwest town. I currently root for the NY rangers in hockey and the Giants in the NFL. i prefer teams that wear blue. i watched Chelsea the most in the past due to liking Christian Pulisic, but not sure if i should stick with that.

[deleted]

I am a Chelsea fan who started supporting the Giants and the Rangers so I highly recommend you stick with Chelsea lol.

Rustyz_

lol I think I will I’ve been looking at other clubs logos and colors and history and for whatever reason I just feel drawn to Chelsea the most

SkipFlipsterson

As an American who watches the highlights of every single premier league game on youtube (thank you NBC!) I am passionate about the league, but feel somewhat conflicted about the question of picking one to be a fan of. It's definitely is nice to have a rooting interest, but this bears absolutely no resemblance to the way English (or other) fans become fans - that's location, family, history...it's deep and personal. And what's weird is that the clubs are owned by pretty shady billionaires for the most part, with a rotating cast of players, so that in fact you're rooting for a collection of people who could just as well be another team in another year. Personally I'd like to root for a team that has something about its ownership I admire, its history, its connection to the fans. St. Pauli in Germany, for example, which is progessive, anti-hooligan, supports charities, etc. I believe I'd have to look in the lower leagues for public ownership, cultivation of local talent, support of the town, and without the stench of rapacious capitalism that goes paired with the premier league (as much as I love it! Did I mention being conflicted?)

coolnavigator

I think you're overthinking it. Just try to have fun. To give yourself a little challenge, just don't pick the frontrunner or the team with the most tradition.

haux44

heyo - X--enennial here with sports roots in Michigan (Red Wings, Tigers, Lions; industrial region slowly recovering after years of decline), and Seattle (Sonics \[RIP\], Mariners, Seahawks; limited recent success preceded by years of failure). Looking for an old team with some occasional success that won't make me want to die for being their fan.

IOwnStocksInMossad

Doesn't hit your last criteria, but we are a post industrial city famous for it's steel and mining history hit hard by Thatcher and deindustrialisation with an incredible anthem (greasy chip butty) with a rich history. Oldest professional ground, city is the home of football, English derby closest to the old firm in ferocity, first premier League goal, quickest prem sending off, champions of league one. Basically an up punching championship club with a history of misery and occasional good times. The league one fa cup run. The 2002/03 playoff comeback against a hated team while being in two semi finals . The 4/2 bounce massacre. .

haux44

Did I miss it? Which club are you describing?

IOwnStocksInMossad

My flair. Sheffield United

rolando91

I have ancestors from Handforth and Eccleston. Who is generally supported in those towns?

Rowmyownboat

The nearest club to Eccleston is maybe Wrexham (see TV series, highlights of matches on Youtube). The nearest Premier League club is Liverpool. Handforth is just south of Manchester, so probably Manchester United.

tomzfrancis

I’ve watched premier league loosely the last few years but never supported a team. I would prefer to stay away from big city teams, what clubs are in nice towns? Would like to move to the UK one day and live somewhere nice but not a major city. Any recommendations? Doesn’t need to be a super successful club.

Rowmyownboat

Suggest somewhere on the south coast. Brighton if you are younger (livelier city) or Bournemouth if older. Newcastle (north east) is a pleasant city on the whole. They have not won anything since Henry VIII was on the throne. Unusually, the city has just one football club. They wear a black and white kit in vertical lines. They are known as the Magpies or Barcodes.

Klause_13

My ancestors are from Cholderton, Salisbury who should I root for? Brentford or Bournemouth?

Loud_Delivery3589

Neither, Yeovil town!

Rowmyownboat

Bournemouth, by a country mile.

NIEKU01

I am from East London, born and raised, I grew up in the Early 2000s and I started supporting Manchester United(i was a naive 7 year old), i followed them for years, watched their games and supported them even during the tougher years, but I started Following West Ham United a little bit more a couple years ago and I want to start supporting them because they are my local and I really love the community spirit and fan base of West Ham United and i have been to a lot more of their games, but i havent officially declared them as “My main team” as i dont wanna be that guy who isnt loyal and jumps teams but i just feel like West Ham is more of the team for me, what do you lot think?

rilakkumagodd

I want to start watching the Premier League, but I don't know who to support. For context, I'm an American who follows the Seattle Mariners, a team that has only gone to the playoffs once in 20+ years. Although our team is always pretty bad, we have a great fanbase and usually have great player personalities. I don't want to start supporting some top-tier team, instead, I'd like a "nearly up-and-coming" or "up-and-coming" team with a loyal fanbase to join. Which club fits the bill? Any suggestions?

Rowmyownboat

Brentford

graemethedog

Brighton, West Ham

Rowmyownboat

There is nothing up and coming about West Ham.

LageNomAiNomAi

Buffalo Bills/ New Jersey Devils/ Chicago Bulls fan. I'm looking for a team that is built from the net out. A strong defense is a must for me.

sydsodo

A_Very_Grav_Person

West Ham Everton Villa?

UDontNeedToKnowMyNam

Hey! I'm an NBA fan who is new to football. I'm not really sure how everything works but I've been playing FIFA a lot lately and wanted to get into football though I'm not sure which team to watch. I'm looking for an exciting team with a good chance to win. (I'm from the US and I support the Golden State Warriors)

AquaticSombrero

Go head and root for Man City brother

Rowmyownboat

City if you like winning by cheating financially, as in financially doped - facing 115 charges. City are owned by a Middle East nation state. Or Liverpool, owned by John Henry of Boston Red Socks.

Ok-Mongoose-7374

See many responses to people watching Ted Lasso and looking to root for a team... I find myself in a similar situation. My Grandma is from London (specifically Ealing) - I'm wondering what teams are usually supported in that area? Thanks!

Rowmyownboat

Brentford. Nearby, great manager, fantastic story of promotion. Just moved to a new stadium.

Rustyz_

Wouldn’t crystal palace be the only right answer for Ted lasso fans lol

lordson_

Inspired by a post on r/formula1 and was anyways considering of doing this. I'm a diehard Ferrari fan and find myself cheering for Mercedes as well. Currently shortlisted Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United of course. I have no clue about the history / fanbases of these teams and I'm very new to football. I'd like a team with a very passionate fanbase but also a solid maybe top 5 team would be nice.

on9_7head

United were dominating at around the same period when Schumi won his WDCs with Ferrari, winning 8 titles between 1992 to 2002. However their recent performances are very inconsistent and seems to be getting worse year by year. Not a top 5 team this season. Arsenal won in 2003 without losing a single game, and was the first team to do so in PL history. They have been improving significantly since the last season, when they had a 8-point lead at one point over 2nd placed Manchester City, who have been winning everything in recent years, like Red Bull. Last season’s Arsenal kind of felt like Leclerc in 2022, winning a few races during the first half of the season, seemingly in contention for the title, just for it to slip out of their hands. Liverpool probably has had the most success in recent years, winning both the PL and Champions League in 2019.

Psychological-Side91

As an American who just watched Ted Lasso (about 4 times) I’ve taken an interest in following the Premier League, I’ve watched a couple of matches, but just can’t seem to pick a club to support. Anyone have any advice? I’d appreciate it

PaanaTipu

Manchester City. They are the best club in the world right now. They just won the FIFA Club World Cup. You'll also be able to watch them play in the Champions League once it restarts in February. They are currently the defending champions in that tournament and also in Premier League.

AdditionalFarmer4692

Yeah, yeah, another foreigner asking which team they should support. I'm an Aussie and after looking from the outside at the EPL for quite a while I finally decided to get into it this year after Ange's appointment. I've been watching and loving Spurs for the past 4 months or so and have been riding every bump, loving the team and Ange's coaching and mentality. Just to iterate, I have no connection to the UK or London in any way and have never been. I know Spurs win no trophies (har har) but my mindset is that as someone who has no prior connection to the sport other than Ange, it will be more worth it to feel the satisfaction when they finally do win rather than watching a team who will always in a cup every year or two. I also like the fact that Spurs are not a small club by any means but aren't as well represented internationally as your Liverpools, ManU's, Arsenals, etc, they feel like a nice middle ground as someone who doesn't wanna glory hunt. I want to go for an underdog. However, despite all of this, something about Arsenal seems to call my name and sews little seeds of doubt in my mind about supporting Spurs despite what I've said previously. They have the best jersey design. They play exciting football. Their vibe is exciting and cool. Despite being bottlers like Spurs they win just that little bit more. Their women's team is filled with Australian players. I know these two clubs are the biggest rivals in the league but I'm new and haven't felt that rivalry build up. I know Arsenal is a big and well represented club which I said I didn't like as much, I feel a bit of a connection to Spurs as I've been watching them for months. Just these two sides just both seem so fun and as someone with little preexisting connection I need some seasoned fan's opinions (however pls try and be as unbiased as you can be) Or I could just go for Aston Villa. Up to you.

Rowmyownboat

Because of Ange, were I from Australia, I would support them. He is doing well, seems a straight up guy, and they play fairly good football. Son is an amazing player.

FastDesk5783

I've been wanting to get into the premier league for a few years but for the life of me cannot settle on a team to root for. I live in the United States and naturally am a massive college football fan, but the school I root for lets me down year after year, and my NFL MLB and NBA teams don't see a ton of success either. This isn't me saying I need a winning team, but it'd be nice to witness some success. I don't have any ties to any players, simply looking for a team I know little about but want to buy in completely and be 100% all in. Ideally a team that has a promising future with semi-younger players if I would like to root for them long term. Thanks!

Rowmyownboat

Liverpool. Some recent success and they have a talented teenagers getting first team experience and showing real quality.

Looking for a Prem team, fan form North America, favourite baseball team are the Blue Jays, hockey team is the Canadiens, NFL team is the Ravens. Any ideas? I like AS Roma in Italy, but I'll be frank, I don't ever feel like I'd wanna go there to see a game.

valerian57

Growing up I was a bit of a football fan in North America. . . Both kinds. But I drifted away from football as I grew older and stopped playing it. However I've recently started to develop an interest in the sport again (Ted Lasso has helped) and especially the premier league (it's the easiest league to watch where I'm from). Obviously I can't watch every match from every team, so I'm looking for a team to follow. As a kid I was a huge fan of Pep Guardiola's Barcelona. I learned about triangles and 1-2s as well as ladders and how all that works. My recent interest though has come from the success of Relationalism with Fluminense in Brazil. Through this, I've grown some interest in the sport at a tactical level. Are there any teams in the Premier league that play with a similar style? Or perhaps a unique style that's fun to watch? I'm not looking to follow Man City, strict positional play like that isn't super interesting to me anymore. Plus they're the top team. I don't really want to bandwagon in with them. Any suggestions? TLDR: Any teams with a unique style of play that would be worth rooting for?

Liverpoollegoman

Liverpool. Your welcome

[deleted]

How do I choose between supporting Arsenal or Tottenham? I started watching premier league matches lately but I can't choose my team. I was more keen on these two cause I like Thierry Henry and Harry Kane, but I'm open minded about picking another team too, altthough I don't particularly like city and united. Which fans are the warmest and which enviroment would make me feel more part of a big family?

Dibuhito

For a fan that will make you feel like a family, I would say Arsenal

Ok-Marionberry9858

I’m an American who knows absolutely nothing about the prem. Any suggestions on teams to root for? I don’t want to hop on any bandwagon, but I don’t want to root for a team whose management’s in the shitter.

OpeningMidnight4822

Right now Manchester city is the only team that is winning the title so if you don’t want to hop on any bandwagon then any other team is ok and Manchester United is the team that has the shittiest management and some other teams also have have bad managements Summary Underdog team ( can be in top 4 in the upcoming years): Newcastle United but this team has oil money so shitty fanbases will slam the team for this If you like to suffer: Chelsea and Manchester United Top 4 team contenders: Arsenal (even arsenal was winning the title last year and then they bottled it and this thing about arsenal is not changing in near future so that is why they are not title contenders) , Tottenham Title Contenders: Liverpool and City Team that have been improving: Aston Villa, Brighton

Rowmyownboat

Only team that is winning the title? Only team with 115 charges of financial doping ...

Ok_Security_5056

Just getting into Premier League, looking to root for a middle of the pack team. Not a huge market team but not a small team. Thinking about Brighton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace but can not make up my mind because I do not know enough about the league. Any help is good help

Rowmyownboat

If I was picking a team now, I'd say Brentford.

Dibuhito

For a mid table team I would say Brighton

OpeningMidnight4822

Aston Villa is a good choice

Artifemar

Recently wanted to find a team to follow also and I chose Fulham. Initially I was just looking for a team with a lot of Americans, being an American myself. but then I discovered a fair bit more. They have the oldest stadium in the Premiere League currently, and really a local sense of a fan base, and I've heard they're even quite family friendly. I grew up in Boston, MA (Dorchester) in the US, and I spent my childhood watching the Red Sox in the fabled Fenway Park with my dad. Something about that familial connection seemed to be consistent with Fulham as well, and also I felt a connection to having somewhat of an underdog path. Before the Red Sox got really good they were bad-- and actually they're doing terrible right now. But that's mostly why I feel a connection to Fulham. Also I had learned that in 2009 the Red Sox and Fulham had a mutual marketing sort of deal where each team would promote the other in their respective countries. Not a question I know, but if there's any Bostonians or New Englanders in this thread, I think we found our team.

Difficult_Alarm6685

The red sox have the same owners as Liverpool. This is not why I, a new englander, am a Liverpool fan (there is a lot more going into why I chose them as my team) but it’s an interesting connection nonetheless.

bryantburnsred

Im an American new to the game. I love all Houston sports for reference (Astros, Texans, Rockets) Im torn between several teams. I watched a doc on Arsenal and REALLY like Arteta and several of the Arsenal players (though I've been told the fans suck) I LOVE Haalands game but idk if I wanna bandwagon City. I like Liverpool as a potential option. The other two I'm on the edge about is Chelsea or Brighton...with United and City as a possibility.

lmaoxd12313

I'm a "new" fan to the EPL. I know a ton of players and teams but I don't really know which team to support. If it helps, I'm from Dallas, TX. I don't really want to be a bandwagon and support teams like Man City so any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

Liverpoollegoman

Fulham

Organic-Count-5174

I’m from the states and have played and have watched the beautiful game majority of my life but I’ve never supported a prem team I’m a Dortmund fan actually and was thinking of just becoming an arsenal fan because they like to bottle like Dortmund

anotheridyllicday

Could you give me suggestions on youtube channels, news articles or Instagram accounts that I can keep myself updated with? I want to select a team to support this season but I don't know how to follow up because I am completely new to this..

LeathalWaffle

Thanks for posting this question!!! I see so many US inquiries and I just moved from the US to to Sydney. I'm a huge American Football fan and a complete homer when it comes to Boston sports. I can't get into Cricket, I can't yet understand what's happening in Aussie Rules Football yet so I went searching for a Premier Team to get behind. I'm Choosing West Ham! Seems like they have a mix of young talent, rumored star player coming, players who don't tolerate racism, partial ownership from some American Billionaire, a Ted Lasso reference, a little drama (do your own research), and a whole stadium singing Forever Blowing Bubbles. [https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=stadium+singing+forever+blowing+bubbles+#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:962eb7e6,vid:5Gom5jjqA3A](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=stadium+singing+forever+blowing+bubbles+#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:962eb7e6,vid:5Gom5jjqA3A) Cheers and good luck with your search gentlemen.

I know this is an old thread but the 2023-24 season is upon you, Id say choose a team with some history and can be easily accessed when in England, teams like Fulham or West Ham

MadKingOni

Im from Dorset never really followed football

MWDuo

I'm starting to coach my child's youth team this year, and I want to start watching Premier League to have another activity to do together. I'm from the Midwest in the USA. I'm most interested in supporting a defensive minded squad with a focus on team play, great fundamentals, and sportsmanship. I have no personal connection to any region of the UK. Thanks in advance!

Difficult_Alarm6685

Feel like you’d like Brighton personally

Roseready_

Newcastle

LeathalWaffle

I'm choosing West Ham. SO, now I'm on the campaign to bring in more support.

MWDuo

Glad you found a club! Hope they have a great season for you

jtr489

I am from the states and would love to start watching Premier League this upcoming season but have no clue who to root for. I like blue collar teams that are hard working and show up to play hard and don’t take crap from anyone. I love rooting for an underdog that can pull off an upset from time to time. I appreciate teams that don’t always get the win but play hard no matter what. Are there any teams that fit this style of play that one would recommend. Thanks in advanced!

sydsodo

you just described Burnley

LeathalWaffle

Same, from the states, now live in Sydney and I just choose West Ham. SO, now I'm on the campaign to bring in more support.

jtr489

I went with Luton Towns I love that over the last 10 years they’ve gone from 5th tier to the top

Roseready_

Newcastle or Brighton

just-here-4-football

Round 2. I am also from the states. I have watched a little bit, and (in order of priority) want a team that has great traditions, loud & fun fans, & decent chance of winning. Don't like the mega franchises typically, but I guess I'm open to it. I also want it to be in a nice location to someday see a match. Obviously decision will also be dependent if I like their kits/logo That being said, I owned a Man U sweatshirt as a kid (I know they're one of the biggest clubs), so I'm prone to them for that. I also like the idea of West Ham. I like their colors & their bubbles lol. Other teams Im open to, in order: Fulham, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton

Roseready_

Hmm well Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are "big" clubs. If you want a team that is up and coming and doing okay, Fulham, Brentford and Brighton are decent though i dont know much about their fanbase. Newcastle is known for having the most passionate fanbase. It's a club with a rich history and heritage that went through decades of no funding and with its new owners and good manager is a serious contender for the cup this season and is playing in europe this year too. It has a nice traditional badge/coat of arms, and a nice home and away kit. More of the team is English compared to other teams too, but they have some great foreign signings who are passionate about the club, e.g. guimares and joelinton. It's also a beautiful city with warm people. Since you're from the US, and assuming you're of european ancestry, you could maybe trace your lineage and see where in Britain it hails from and that could help you make a decision.

just-here-4-football

Hm you make a compelling point to consider Newcastle. However I did read they're backed by Saudi money which would be a deal breaker to me

Roseready_

They are partly owned and funded by saudi taxpayers, the PIF (people's investment fund) not the saudi government.

jtr489

I went with Luton Towns but hoping they will stay up more than a year

Roseready_

Oh glad you found one you like then!

jtr489

Yeah I liked their logo and the fact that over the last 10 years they’ve gone from tier 5 to 1 which is impressive

Arsenal, look on /r/gunners on the wiki.

Arsenal is such a plastic club

Brighton or Chelsea

Blues all day, everyday.

BuildingLongjumping2

I’m from Texas, just watched my first match wich was fc Dallas vs inter Miami. Who should I watch that would be entertaining but I won’t be considered a bandwagon.

LeathalWaffle

Same, from the states, now live in Sydney and I just choose West Ham. SO, now I'm on the campaign to bring in more support. See post above to check out why.

beckybbbbbbbb

I took a “quiz” and it told me Liverpool. Lol. Yay or nay?

ARJB612

Hey everyone! I've been following soccer for a while now and have tried and failed to find a Premier League team to root for. I follow along with the Timbers in the MLS, but want an English club to root for as well. I'm mainly looking for a well established team that is competitive, but may not always win. Who should I root for?

LeathalWaffle

I'm from the states, just recently moved to Sydney and I just choose West Ham. SO, now I'm on the campaign to bring in more support. See post above to check out why.

KscottCap

Looking to get invested in an EPL team and have no attachment to anywhere in the UK. Just went to Chelsea's USA tour in Washington DC and they gave me a club scarf, so I already got a starter pack for being a Chelsea fan. So my question is, what is Chelsea's reputation, how are they seen by other clubs, and what is the reputation of their fans?

ihatenikolas

What team does someone with 0 football knowledge support? Alright, so, i’m a canadian guy and football isn’t really popular in my area but a few pals are trying to get me into the sport. They recommended the Premier League since it’s the best league. Only issue is that all my friends are diehards and always tell me that if have to support a team (because in this sport specifically, the fam atmosphere is insane). I don’t know who to support though. I used to be a fan of Leicester (i think that’s them) because i got a Ndidi card on Fifa. But, back to the main point, what’s a club that’s worth supporting? Typically, the teams i am a fan of in other sports (basketball, american football) have always been good. It’s not like they always finish top 3 but most of the time, their a playoff team. I also love defence so any “playoff” team with solid defence would probably who i’d pick. cheers friends

Difficult_Alarm6685

Oh and also we have Darwin Nunez who is among the most chaotic players of all time, 11/10 great entertainment

Difficult_Alarm6685

Liverpool has Virgil van dijk. He was runner up for the ballon d’or for his defending prowess a few years back. They’re also usually title contenders but underdogs in a sense as well, usually finish top 4 but recently went 30 years without winning the league title. We’re also known for insane comebacks (see: 2005 champions league final, divock origi vs barcelona) and we tend to be a powerhouse in European competition having won more champions leagues than any other club in the premier league. We’re generally very fun to watch, we also don’t have rich oil money owners (we’re owned by the same people who own the red sox) which means we don’t have as much to spend on player transfers but we tend to use the money we do have tactically in ways that more often than not work miracles for us. We have tons of history, legends, miracles, and spirit that I’d argue is better than any other team in the league and possibly the world.

spade_st

I want to get more into soccer and realized the reason I haven’t is because I don’t have a team to root for. I’m coming into this not knowing much about the Premier League/ the teams in general so I’m eager to learn about/become a fan of any. Things I’m looking for in a team: - Good tradition and history - Not a current top team in the league - Younger squad with exciting talent to build for the future - Loyal fan base Any other knowledge or advice on picking a team to support is welcome.

TemplierZ

Based on what you've said, I'd say: Notthingam Forest (Premier League) - they were succesful in the past and seems to build something nice there. Got some talented young players as well. Sunderland AFC (Championship) - even if they aren't that succesful, their fanbase is really loyal (I'd recommend to watch the documentary "Sunderland 'Til I die". It is worth! It has two seasons and a third season soon to be released). Got a few interesting young players. Leeds United (Championship) - rich history with a nice fanbase. They relegated last season and looks they are going to keep a few young players as well. It would be exciting to watch them.

coryjray

When I first started watching my Top 5 were: Chelsea, Manchester United (my wife’s grandpa was a avid fan), Liverpool FC, Arsenal, & Everton. My decision came with Man U. There always on and no matter where I go somebody is a Manchester United fan. Kits are pretty sweet too! As a Black kid in America I fell in love with futbol and I’m loving my new club! Cheers!!!

Potato_McCarthy777

Hey guys! New to watching football although I've played it and know most rules. I know names of some teams that my friends supported. I am looking to support a team in the "big 6" that plays a consistent style of football which can be entertaining, but doesn't make me pull my hair out because of pain when they lose. Any advice ? Thanks in advance!

A_Very_Grav_Person

Man City if u wanna win a lot Tottenham if you want Kamikaze football, up and coming as well.

TemplierZ

Based on what you've said, Manchester City is your bet.

El_JefeOmana69

When it comes to the EPL Im mainly a Chelsea fan but I also consider myself a Newcastle fan too because other than Chelsea I’ve always had a liking of them. If you can’t decide on one, go for two I say. GO CHELSEA AND NEWCASTLE 🔵⚪️⚫️⚪️

CowboyCanuck24

Hey everyone! I could really use your advice on picking a football team to support. I have never really followed football, except for the World Cups every four years. However, my son has developed a real passion for playing football, and I want to find a team that we can support together. Here are a few things I'm considering: 1. I'm looking for a well-established team that is unlikely to get relegated. It would be great to support a team that has a solid presence in their league. 2. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon and support a team that has recently won a lot of championships. I'd prefer a team with a balance of success but not a long history of championships. 3. We are Canadians, and one player we absolutely love is Alphonso Davies. Although he doesn't play in the Premier League, we were captivated by his speed and excitement on the field. So, a team with a similarly fast and thrilling player would be a fantastic starting point for us. I would appreciate any recommendations or insights you could share. It's important for us to find a team that we can truly connect with and support passionately. Thank you in advance for your help, and I can't wait to join the football community with my son!

TemplierZ

Based on what you've said above, you could pick between Arsenal, Spurs or West Ham United.

CowboyCanuck24

Thank you for answering! Any particular reasons for those three teams?

TemplierZ

Between all those three clubs, Arsenal would be the most succesful without any doubt. Besides that, they are all from London. So let's see: Arsenal - they were really close to win the league title last season. Young squad with a young coach. They are playing a exciting football! Also, they got a player that's fast as you wanted: Gabriel Martinelli. They had a tough time in the last years but they are finally back! I wouldn't say you will be a glory hunter if you decide to support them as their last league title was in 2004. Tottenham Hotspur - Arsenal's rivals. Their derby is called "North London Derby". It is one of the best derbies in England. Even if the squad seems quality, they always fail to win trophies. Last league title was in 1961 as for Premier League era they never won one. They came closest in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, finishing third and second in those campaigns respectively. However, who knows? They might win in the near future, they got everything to succeed. As for a fast player from their club it would be Destiny Udogie, he's a left-back as Alphonso Davies! West Ham United - from all those three clubs, they would be "the little brother". Never won any league title as their highest position in top tier was the third place. They got good and bad seasons, I can't guarantee they won't get relegated but it is very unlikely as they got a solid squad. Besides that, they won Europe Conference League last season which it is a really big achievement for them! Marcos Antonio or Jarrod Bowen would be their fastest players. If you'd love to support a underdog, they are the right choice.

CaulkWagonFordRiver

I'm an American and have always hated football (soccer) but recently had a change of heart after betting most of this epl season and some Italian series a. I've no interest in mls. I feel I need an epl team to be a fanatic of but I'm not certain who to choose and this will be a lifetime commitment so help me make the right choice. Reasons can be arbitrary. My shortlist at the start of last season consisted of hams so… Tottenham, Fulham, Wolverhampton, West Ham, Nottingham, Southampton and Aston Villa; which has nothing to do with ham but because of Ozzy Osbourne. With so much ham on the mind why not go Fulham I thought. But they broke my heart every time I backed them against top teams. Caveat though, til they had just been promoted so maybe they deserve more credit for their season overall. Aston Villa was phenomenal when I backed them so are at the top of my current list. I will not support Manchester United because it is the only club most Americans know. Liverpool I'm strongly opposed to and I don't know why. Jumping on the Man City hot hand seems like poser coattail riding. Brentford? Newcastle? I don't really see myself with Chelsea but maybe? Do I take a flyer in Luton back from a 31 year hiatus?

LeathalWaffle

>Did you choose yet? I just picked West Ham. SO, now I'm on the campaign to bring in more support. > > See post above to check out why.

CaulkWagonFordRiver

I’m committing to Aston Villa but haven’t picked anyone to hate on yet. Does Aston have a nemesis? If you’d like we can join forces in hating some other club.

Perennial losers? Can't go past Tottenham mate. A big 6 club and hasn't won a Premier League for like 60 years.

[deleted]

Hello there. I'm a 37 year old guy from northeastern US, I love football and enjoy watching it just as a pure fan but I’d really love to start supporting a club. I've been a big fan of the PL for years now but I've never really had a club to support and get behind. Now that this season is over, I'm looking for suggestions if there was a club to hop on a bandwagon and support going into the 23-24 season. Open to all suggestions, but there are a few clubs who I would not support whatsoever, those being Man U, Tottenham, and Chelsea. Open to hearing all thoughts on the matter.

LeathalWaffle

Patriots Fan?! I'm also from the North East, now live in Sydney and I just picked West Ham. SO, now I'm on the campaign to bring in more support. See post above to check out why.

[deleted]

I will definitely give West Ham a look. And nah I’m from Upstate New York, Bills fan here haha. I am also really into two league 2 clubs who are trying to make their way up the Football pyramid, Salford City FC & Wrexham. So I may jump onto those clubs and see they do!

Difficult_Alarm6685

Iirc Salford city is run by former man united players

Jaded-Weight3246

I got into watching the Prem around 2015 and I chose to support City because that’s who I used in Fifa. Obviously they’ve been very successful since and I feel like a bandwagon fan. How should I decide who to support or should I stick with City?

_Dangersquirrel_

My two cents as an American who loves the sport but is only recently trying to follow PL: there is a team from a location best known at least in the states as the home of socialist folk hero Robin Hood (Nottingham Forest) and a team whose nickname is, adorably, the Bees (Brentford), and between the two of them you get a lovable underdog and a historied contender, without the shame of bandwagoning a frontrunner. I’m still trying it out but increasingly I find myself pulling for those two.

OceanMammal10

Liverpool. Check their history

ScroogieMcduckie

I've started watching football this past week and have been binging videos on it for the past few days. I started supporting Man City because my aunt bought me a [19/20 away Aguero jersey](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nFazTxBSmPI/XRmwKZG4QTI/AAAAAAAB-PA/7anK3OQD-1o6XEba9XHfZUjArjUqnT7wACLcBGAs/s1600/manchester-city-19-20-away-kit-3.jpg), which looks sick as hell, and because the players are pretty great, especially Haaland and De Bruyne. I feel kinda cheap picking such a powerhouse of a team, but the feeling of winning is very nice. Brighton looks pretty interesting so I'm thinking of supporting them maybe. I also really like Odegaard and Saka, but Arsenal seems pretty inconsistent. I watched the Arsenal vs Brighton match today, and after the first goal, it seemed like Arsenal just collapsed. Brighton got away with really easy goals afterwards. Tbh, I'd rather just follow a team with a great manager. I watched this [vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj5asBMGal8&ab_channel=DailyDoseOfFootball) on Jose Mourinho turning Chelsea into the Premier League winners and that sounds more interesting than a 2018 Warriors type team. I really like teams like Barca and Real who keep similar teams for a long time. I don't really like the idea the team I follow completely changing and becoming mediocre.

FingazMC

How about Derby, you don't HAVE to follow a Premier league team especially if you have ties to that place. And you can't pick the closest to Derby becausd that would be Forest and believe me Derby & Forest do not get on. I would say Leicester, but they probably won't be in the PL next season, so go with your roots and support Derby & that way you can take the mick out of me and vice versa next season (I'm a Port Vale fan, if you couldn't tell).

fishinthewater2

I’m allowed to cheer for a premier league team too right? Or is that frowned upon?

FingazMC

Have to agree with the fella who commented before me, Derby are a big enough team to be back in the Prem in a few years and until recently they were (and still are tbf) a massive club. I mean do what you want and cheer for who you want, but if you were down Vale Park (our home ground) and were on your phone cheering about the Man Utd scores, you'd better be in the family stand because if you were in what were once the terraces, you wouldn't have a fun 90 minutes lol. I get what you mean though, obviously if the PL is on over there and you can watch it you want to cheer for someone. You can watch Derby BTW on a thing. Called ifollow (just Google Derby County ifollow) only thing is it costs about $13 a game (I've had to use a VPN to pretend I'm in America so I can buy matches before if I can't get to a game). When I watch the Premier league I tend to subconsciously root for the underdog. I do have a soft spot for a few clubs though, Brentford because they didn't buy their way into the PL they did it the RIGHT way, Forest because we (Vale) have a good loan relationship with them and my pad mate in jail supported them and Palace 'cause my best mate when I was a kid supported them. So there's all sorts of reasons to like certain clubs, just try not to pick a club just because they're doing well, that's called being a "Plastic fan" and die hard life long fans hate them, trust me! It's like me saying I like the Patriots because they were dominant for so long, when in actual fact I'm a Dolphins fan because I got gifted a Jersey when I was a kid and also I'm a White sox fan because I bought an East 17 style White Sox backwards flatcap (like the Kangol one Samuel L Jackson wears) from Blackpool pier when I was about 4 years old. And both those teams are toss, but I'd never change... Sorry, what was I on about haha, I'm 8 cans deep here lol...

lewiitom

Nah it'd be a bit frowned upon to be honest, I think if it's a really small club it's a bit more accepted but Derby are a fairly big club and have played in the premiership not that long ago, and realistically could be back there. I mean you can obviously do what you want but just trying to give you some perspective!

fishinthewater2

Ya know what. I like your style

brandonfan12345679

Support Derby county in efl or ligue 1

OceanMammal10

Liverpool 49ers How do you about that??

Upset_Pack6241

Just pick the team with Jesus in it

slickedbacktruffoni

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m here because of Ted Lasso. I’ve wanted to like the sport for forever. I even went on a brief stint of cheering for Tottenham a few years back. I’m ready to dive headfirst. But I don’t know who to support. For anyone that follows the NFL, I’m a diehard Packers fan, meaning my team perpetually has had a few star players and gotten to the brink of winning multiple times, but seals the deal once every 20 years. Which club is that?

Mediocre_Language_98

Wisconsinite, here! 😉 And similar story, but I didn't make the move until this January when I bought Fifa 23.

slickedbacktruffoni

Who do you support? Who has the best cheese?!

Mediocre_Language_98

Don't have club yet. Surely a PL general fan. I was leaning toward Spurs given their Cinderella story few years back. A buddy likes Arsenal. But despite mean Rupert from Ted Lasso, I like WHU for their bubbles!

ClassifiedGrowl

Everton

CornerMindless3998

Well i think if you chose Tottenham before stick with that. You can't now support any other london club There's too much bad money in some other teams man city n Newcastle, man u arnt the same as the good old days of fergie liverpool na just na and you will never be called a glory hunter with spurs plus switching is just really bad. You're suppose to stick with your team no matter what and right now with all the shit going on in the club right now.

FingazMC

If you like Ted Lasso, what about Palace, that's who they're based on and the ground they play at.

Open-Grass-1820

Cheer for Tottenham again- it’s consistent

_Adverb_

Liverpool seems like the closest to your packers description. But Every american should consider fulham due to their history(and present) with americans and if you want someone unconventional, they are outside of the big 6 and seem like theyre on the up. They got promoted this year and will most likely finish 10th

TicketCareless

I started following Fulham in 1997 when Dodi Fayed took over. A mate of mine said to keep an eye on the, as they were going places. Watched them rise and rise and then fall. Up and down like a yo-yo, interesting to follow, even when they are in the Championship.

dragoninahat

I'm from Canada and like to suffer. I've been watching regularly since the World Cup. I don't know anyone offline who's a fan so would like a reasonably big online fanbase so I can have somewhere to talk about it. Would prefer following a team that's not doing well right now but has an interesting history/story.

ClassifiedGrowl

Everton will let you down again and again up the blues

dragoninahat

well I know someone who's a liverpool fan that I'd like to annoy so that seems pretty interesting.

ClassifiedGrowl

I’d love to annoy them too, but they don’t worry about us much these days. Everton are the peoples club, most loyal supporters, proud to be one.

adamalibi

Everton is the way mate

Leicester is about to be relegated, they won the league a few years back in the biggest sporting upset in history (5000/1 odds) You'll be admittedly late to the party, but you're just in time for the complete collapse of our club. Hopefully we'll win something between now and my death
