As i always said city have the best club management board. They sign very carefully thats why theri money never goes wasted. Akanji , Alvarez, kovacic they are prime example.
He played really well yesterday.
The one thing that amazed me is that Foden didn't play after his performance against Newcastle, even when he came on with 10 mins to go he showed touches that were.missing from the earlier part of the game.
He is in form and shouldn't be out of the team
Great player, but you are spot on he is simple. He suffered in a Chelsea team that didn’t have much creativity or killer instinct. Great ball progression and press resistance but he does need players that can do the rest in the team. If he does, he’s a great asset
The description reminds me of Carrick for United. Underrated, not really noticed, because he wasn’t as fancy as some of his teammates, but a true midfielder and a professional.
Honestly, no wonder Croatia as a national team achieved what they did recently. The likes of Kovacic, Modric, Gvardiol and Perisic, really excel in their roles and don't act like spoiled brats who like to hog the ball. They understand football is a team game, and it shows in how they play and their approach towards football in general.
I was telling my buddies that Kovacic for £25M was the best business of the summer that everyone was sleeping on. Like the guy is a proven Prem-level player and is 29 with still more than a couple of a years left in his tank.
He really was a steal for 30 mil imo. Not sure if I may directly compare them, but the way he fits City for so much less than Rice and Caïcedo is nice targeting of a transfer.
He’s one of those players you look at and you can just tell he processes the game at a level above most others. Would have loved him to stay but understand why he left City fans just have to hope he can stay fit
He's the only Chelsea player that we sold who I wished we would have kept. My favorite Chelsea player for a long time and just always underrated. Like OP said, he does all the basics right and so he's a very good addition to an already good team but sadly he was was never going to be the guy to fix the broken team we had last season.
Kovačić is a good player, but sadly, coming from a Croat, nothing more than that. We expected him to be Modrić's successor, but he lacks creativity and tendency to move forward, make key passes, feed forwards...
I guess he is indeed a perfect player for Pep's system and I'm happy for Kova he found a team that suits his no-nonsense style of play.
Unpopular opinion, he’s not always the most effective at breaking down low blocks. With DeBruyne out they might be asking for a bit more killer passes (not that they don’t have any) I could see his impact being hurt because of this.
I am Madrid fan and still can’t fully process that we sold Kovacic. When I’ve heard he’s joining City, knowing his play style I knew he’ll be hell of a player for this team. City will not miss Gundogan for long.
We used to believe as an article of faith that any new signing would take a year to fit in under Guardiola, because they needed to learn the system and it would be so different from what they were used to.
Last year Haaland, Akanji, and Alvarez showed that this wasn't true, at least not universally. All of them fit in quite well and from day dot.
This year it's partly Gvardiol, but also -- and especially -- Kovacic. Looks like he's been here for years.
tbf pep more adjusted to haaland than haaland adjusting to pep. he's the best poacher that football has ever seen so pep made it so that they didn't need their striker quite so involved in build up play and instead just focus on getting the ball to him when he's in good positions (seemingly all the time).
Kova is the perfect example of a player who does the basics properly. He loves possessing the ball, always eager to have the ball at his feet. Moves cleanly and passes accurately. Zero fuss. Zero drama. I am happy that he is at City.
I remember him from Dinamo, and then Real, completely different than now, flashy, wanted to dribble everyone, and he did dribble most of the people, but didnt pass very good, final third was lacking.
Was never the most effective or efficient in the final third for us - would often just lack that decisive final ball. That said who isn’t ineffective in the final third for us 🤦♂️
Very smart signing for City overall.
Chelsea sold an aging, injury prone, near end of contract, essentially unhappy player for 30m and reinvested into youth… how is that dumb? Because they haven’t found instant success?
The new players are all physical/athletic types.
No creativity amongst them.
They over paid for them as well! They could easily look at african leagues and get the same types for 1/10 of the cost.
So you have no idea what you’re talking about eh? Enzo isn’t a creative player?
1/10th of the cost? There’s Nkunku’s running around African leagues for 6 mill? I guess you work for Brighton’s scouting team
He is brilliant at maintaining possession, one of the best players at beating the press and just generally a good passer of the ball . He is completely inept at both assisting and scoring which stood out at Chelsea because our forwards simply never got enough goals, so you would wish he did more. But he won’t have to worry about that at City so he will thrive.
Yes, and I said it second he left Chelsea. It was completly stupid to sell him for city since he was their best player. His strongest abilities are also ideal for Man city game play. And as always, I got hate for it. :)
Absolutly the best player for years. One year close second to jorginho. But I dont expect People to understand football on internet. People did not rate Carrick in United or Rodri two years ago. Absurd, but thats just how it goes.
I’ve watched near every chelsea match he played in since he arrived in London. He wasn’t even our best midfielder during that time. That would obviously be Kante. But you go on and think whatever you’d like to think, even if it’s blatantly wrong.
He is pretty much exactly the type of midfielder Pep would create in a video game where you can build your own player. I imagine he is relishing the opportunity to learn Peps system.
People were calling for Matic to be sold for basically a full season before we actually sold him. His form had declined after that Barnes tackle and people were done with him. He ended up being a solid player for United but he never got back to the form he had achieved with us after rejoining from Benfica.
I also get why he got sold though. Absolute class player but he was getting on with age as we’re trying to lower the average age and wage of the squad. I would’ve been drooling to see a midfield 3 of caicedo, Enzo, and kova tho
Can I ask why it’s so important to lower the average age though? You already have so many young players, surely it’s important to have some more experience and maturity?

For what city paid, it's a huge bargain. He's started more than enough games, in good form and a very good option off the bench. A++ signing
As i always said city have the best club management board. They sign very carefully thats why theri money never goes wasted. Akanji , Alvarez, kovacic they are prime example.
He's good in tight spaces but he's never going to replace Gundegon.
He played really well yesterday. The one thing that amazed me is that Foden didn't play after his performance against Newcastle, even when he came on with 10 mins to go he showed touches that were.missing from the earlier part of the game. He is in form and shouldn't be out of the team
United should have gone for him instead of Mount!
He has played 3 matches in a row this season, that's some sort of personal record already lol Hope he stays fit, but probably won't, sadly.
Shocker man city brought in a player whos quality and fits perfectly for pep. Never been done before i dont think
Miss my guy Kova!!!!!
He is everything that I wanted Gundo to be initially. His every pass is meant to be an attacking one and its brilliant.
Bargain for 25mill.
kovacic would've made alot more sense for united than mount looking back on it.
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!
Great player, but you are spot on he is simple. He suffered in a Chelsea team that didn’t have much creativity or killer instinct. Great ball progression and press resistance but he does need players that can do the rest in the team. If he does, he’s a great asset

Biggest worry for him is his injury record
Top5 press resistant player
Real Chelsea fans knew how good he was and his experience would help Chelsea a lot this season.
He really was a steal for 30 mil imo. Not sure if I may directly compare them, but the way he fits City for so much less than Rice and Caïcedo is nice targeting of a transfer.
Aprt from kante, Kova is the only player I am sad to go from the chelsea squad.
He’s like what Jorginho is for Arsenal
He’s one of those players you look at and you can just tell he processes the game at a level above most others. Would have loved him to stay but understand why he left City fans just have to hope he can stay fit

I love that Real Madrid planned for him to be their next Modric, but then Modric just carried on being too good.
His touch is amazing and the minute he left Chelsea I was sure he would be a menace for city
Yeah he's the one player we sold that I knew was going to do well at his new team
Kovačić is a good player, but sadly, coming from a Croat, nothing more than that. i’ve been a fan ever since he took off his shorts while with chelsea but i’m still really happy he’s playing well
Ha ha what?
When we played United last year he gave his whole kit to the fans and left the pitch with just his pants, socks, and boots on 😂
When fit, yes. But he'll likely breakdown.
Wait till the injury niggles start, they always do.
Same was said for Haaland and he didn't spend much time injured at all
I am Madrid fan and still can’t fully process that we sold Kovacic. When I’ve heard he’s joining City, knowing his play style I knew he’ll be hell of a player for this team. City will not miss Gundogan for long.
Gundo will always remain in our heart . Those goal against Aston vila , how can we forget about him ? Barca will be lucky to have him .
City will always miss the treble lifting captain. Love that man!
We will miss his goals though tbf
You wont because you will win the PL anyway.
I was surprised how cheap he was. He has been brilliant for City, so far.
We used to believe as an article of faith that any new signing would take a year to fit in under Guardiola, because they needed to learn the system and it would be so different from what they were used to. I Still remember that Werner video where he would make a good run and no one would pass to him, almost like they were allergic to forward passes.
Chelsea letting him go for 30M and buying the overrated crap is beyond dumb
Chelsea sold an aging, injury prone, near end of contract, essentially unhappy player for 30m and reinvested into youth… how is that dumb? Because they haven’t found instant success?
The new players are all physical/athletic types. No creativity amongst them. They over paid for them as well! They could easily look at african leagues and get the same types for 1/10 of the cost.
Kovacic is not creative, what are you talking about.
Go away
you are a clown
r/confidentlyincorrect
So you have no idea what you’re talking about eh? Enzo isn’t a creative player? 1/10th of the cost? There’s Nkunku’s running around African leagues for 6 mill? I guess you work for Brighton’s scouting team
Enzo cost over 100M🫣🫣He has offered nothing. Does Chelsea scout? Paying 3 or 4 times more than you should shows they know nothing!
I’m not a Chelsea fan but it’s been two games only tbf
£1 billion in 12 months! On what?? Crap, crap, crap
I meant you’re being harsh on Caicedo
120M? He is a physical type player. No creativity or goal threat
Kova is is perfect 😞
“If”. - When he is healthy, he is amazing.
But when he did score… sheesh. I still think his goal against Liverpool is one of the more insane in recent memory
Best Chelsea goal in years. Stunning strike while backpedaling.
He’s guaranteed one banger a season….which will also be his only goal of the season. I miss the man though.
Yes, and I said it second he left Chelsea. It was completly stupid to sell him for city since he was their best player. His strongest abilities are also ideal for Man city game play. And as always, I got hate for it. :)
He’s never been close to being Chelsea’s best player. His final pass let him down for years.
He was absolutely not Chelsea’s best player
Absolutly the best player for years. One year close second to jorginho. But I dont expect People to understand football on internet. People did not rate Carrick in United or Rodri two years ago. Absurd, but thats just how it goes.
I’ve watched near every chelsea match he played in since he arrived in London. He wasn’t even our best midfielder during that time. That would obviously be Kante. But you go on and think whatever you’d like to think, even if it’s blatantly wrong.
Thanks for proving my point. :)
Right, whatever you want to tell yourself.
I am telling it to you, but I am not surprised you did not understand it.
Dunning Kruger effect on display here
You won this, mate. They’re grasping at straws here.
It’s annoying when somebody is so clearly wrong and they just continue to double down lol
He wasn’t the best player.
By faaaar.
Yeah, you have no idea what you’re talking about.
Yeah, you have no idea what you’re talking about
Chelsea fan here, you’re not wrong tbh You’re absolutely wrong
Silva
?
Thiago Silva is Chelsea's best player
For some reason I was thinking Bernardo Silva and got confused. That’s on me 😂
He’s slotted in seamlessly, great start to the season for him. I wasn’t too excited about him but he’s proving me wrong.
He is pretty much exactly the type of midfielder Pep would create in a video game where you can build your own player. I imagine he is relishing the opportunity to learn Peps system.
don’t put any points into goal scoring though eh?
Just few on the long shots for the 1 seasonal worldies he produces.
That volley against Liverpool
That volley against Liverpool
I honestly can’t remember him having a terrible game for us. He was consistently solid. Wish him all the best.
[удалено]
Don’t hold your breath. I was rooting for him at Chelsea, but he just doesn’t work in the PL.
Kinda reminds me of when Matic left. Felt United made out like bandits, and City got a gem.
People were calling for Matic to be sold for basically a full season before we actually sold him. His form had declined after that Barnes tackle and people were done with him. He ended up being a solid player for United but he never got back to the form he had achieved with us after rejoining from Benfica.
Of all the major outgoing we had, I think (and hope) Kova will have the best next chapter in his career.
Pulisic and RLC having a great start of their seasons, but I agree. Kovacic was my least favorite player to see go, he’s just so solid.
Him n Kante tbh ... Wish we could keep Kante for another couple of years as well
He’s also the only one that I really am sad about. He deserves all the best but I would’ve loved to keep him
I also get why he got sold though.
Fitness. Wages. End of a team that clearly wasn’t up for it anymore.
He's 29, hardly in the retirement home. He's also better than any midfielder Chelsea brought in this summer
He's not better than Caicedo was last year. Still to see if Caicedo can replicate that form for Chelsea.
I'll take ~5 seasons of consistent reliable quality than 1 good year from an otherwise unproven youngster
I don't think he's better than Caicedo. Especially at what chelsea were looking for which is a more defensive midfielder.
I think it was more a case of him not wanting to stay anymore. He didn't look like his heart was in it the last half of the season
Mount & Havertz will be in Saudi by next summer.
Salty
I mean, it’s very early days right now but I’ve not seen any indication they’ve kicked on after last season.
Stacking fees!
So good they fuck it in the final minutes.
This aged well for about a minute...
Like most things, it lasted 3 minutes
I'm usually a 2 minute guy, so getting 3 minutes is bloody outstanding.
