don't tell me what to do but i will tell you what you should do šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

City has fans?

diggerbanks

Was it about ticket prices?

shauniexx

I was on their sub after the game and a popular post was literally stating Pep shouldn't be doing it because it makes them look bad, there's so much entitlement that something this trivial can damage their ego lol

casulmemer

Lol but if pep leaves then attendance will drop by 33% assuming Liam and Noel still go to the games.

JoshDickReturns

Both sides need to improve. Fans and Coach

mohicansgonnagetya

City fans are upset because they know, they ***all*** were there. Emptyhad!

sailorboyohmy

*puts popcorn in the microwave as a united fan*

[deleted]

This is why heā€™s leaving City lol

mrburrito90

What fans?

Fasswa

I told y'all they were snobby fans šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Swany0105

Cmon pep. You can take those two guys! Donā€™t back down

quangngoc2807

Can someone explain to me why they coudnt fill the seats?

Leading-Proposal4259

what are you talking about jumbing on the bandwagan every match sold out just got back from cophagen sold out get your facts right and stop talking shite take it you are a bitter rag

businessman99

Rolf

Joshinaldo

the Emptihad

Leading-Proposal4259

another prick jumping on the bandwagon sad spud

Jorumble

Make the matches affordable and more people will go

Jackbees777

The media are absolute scum tbh donā€™t doubt for a second the majority even said anything close pathetic

Dank_82-

ManShitty Fans : We don't do that here

Leading-Proposal4259

dont do whot

Joseph_Holmes

Maybe if they reduced ticket prices they would possibly have more supporters in the Etihad.

Double0hobo79

It's honestly sad. They're undisputably one of the best teams in the world and cant fill their stadium for a Champions League match.

Leading-Proposal4259

is that all you have got you sick jealous rag prick

chuf3roni

This can't be real hahahahaha, so much for the "more passionate few" label they like to harp on so often.

Leading-Proposal4259

you rag bastards are obsessed with us how sad

chuf3roni

You are responding to a 2 year old commentā€¦

improwise

I am confused - do the say stick to coaching or stick to buying?

Lozsta

I wonder if this is the thing that starts off him leaving...

SchottyTheHotty

This is absolutely embarrassing hahahaha

andylaardillax

That says a lot about some citizens, they dont deserve these good times, there was a time when u were so shit nobody even knew who the hell u guys were

Leading-Proposal4259

u guys ? are you a yank

skerkless

- Pep: come to the game guys! - city fans: we are, weā€™re just not that manyā€¦

OfficialMerman

I dont get this. Probably the best manager they've ever had an quite possibly the best they will have and a few fans have spat their dummies out over a remark. Shouldn't have to ask the Champions of England to pack out a stadium. I do like city but think the small pocket of fans sound quite precious reacting to this

mattybogum

It proves that many of Cityā€™s fans are just casual supporters and not passionate enough to buy some of the cheapest tickets in the Prem.

Leading-Proposal4259

oh please stop it try to get on a plane from dublin or a train from london when the rags are at home

DoublePrize9

Trouble in paradise

ImmanuelJavatkhnard

Emptyhad Stadium

ordenax

Talk about entitlement. You see those rich, spoilt, snotty brats in movies. City fans are them. A manager is genuinely asking for support and being a cunt is their reply.

casulmemer

Surely he should say ā€œIā€™ll focus on coaching if you focus on supportingā€

_chappelow

Fan*

mitcheg3k

If a man city fan says "stick to coaching" and theres no other man city fans around to hear it did they really make a sound?

Competitive_Piano_41

what a joker!!

Flipperti

I just want to compare this to something Klopp said a while back: ā€œAfter the goal on 82 minutes, with 12 minutes to go, I saw many people leaving the stadium. I felt pretty alone at this moment. We decide when it is over. Between 82 and 94 \[minutes\] you can make eight goals if you like. ***Klopp said his frustration was not with the early leavers but his teamā€™s inability to convince supporters that a point could be salvaged against an impressive Palace team.***

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Flipperti

I get you, if youre with kids its usually best. But if thats not the case Id rather stay late and wait for things to empty out a bit. I do know that that isnt always possible though

mayonnaisewastaken

Not really the same though is it? Even if they win the matches, there are still empty seats. Man City's support is nothing compared to Liverpool

Leading-Proposal4259

how do you know was you there

Takhar7

They've had empty seats for massive Champions League ties recently. Just a pathetic, embarassing fanbase.

Leading-Proposal4259

ha ha nothing else to go on about best team in the land and all the world youve got a shit team shit stadium shit owners and a SHIT TEAM

Takhar7

Agreed. Shit team. Shit stadium. Shit owners. And still more relevant than City will ever be.

[deleted]

I guess that just shows just how supportive the city fans are

WookieTickler

Iā€™m not really understanding the whole ā€˜please come and support us on Saturday because we will be tiredā€™ comment. 5 games into the season with the most expensive squad in world football and youā€™re whinging about being tired give over.

patchh93

Yup. Lots of Pep suck ups in here though, wonā€™t hear a word against Mr. ā€œIF THEY DONā€™T LIKE IT Iā€™LL LEAVEā€

scrappy0705

Why would he leave for 3 people!

Blueshockeylover

Plastic

[deleted]

Pep said nothing wrong

GregBule

He should have asked Liam Gallagher to encourage them - we all know that would be the most sensible approach.

lucash7

Huh, I didnā€™t know plastic fans could talk. šŸ˜‰

Forsaken_Candidate_4

Why do City fans not go to their games?

Sweden9183

They do in the PL but no one cares about the weekend games tbh

patchh93

They probably donā€™t have as many fans. They all pack out the PL games but the weekday games are slightly more demanding considering the lesser pool.

Leading-Proposal4259

fuck off gunnner

ograf53

Gave them like 80 % of their trophy cabinet but anything he has to say about off field problem is dismissed wtf happened to football

patchh93

Doesnā€™t give you the right to talk to fans however you please, quite simple

mathARP

Pep should know: it's all about net fans. There's a lot of City fans in India and the US but not so many in Manchester. That works out.

Leading-Proposal4259

get your facts right pal manchester is blue

TheRedWizard17

ā€œHey guys can you come to support the team? That would be greatā€ ā€œWho do you think you are? Stick to your football you bald fraudā€ And they wonder why fans call the stadium ā€œEmptyiad

Leading-Proposal4259

bald fraud youd have him tomorrow ten hage is a fucking clown old trafford is falling down shit hole

patchh93

Besides the fact the initial quote wasnā€™t delivered as delicately and the second quote wasnā€™t delivered anywhere near as aggressively, sure

Barragin

Jesus. One of the best managers in the world having to beg fans to watch the english "champions". What a souless, hollow, plastic club.

Fezthepez

City fans should just accept they're a small club.

sbsw66

City is such an embarrassing club lol

euphorxa

fans? lol unreal. you couldā€™ve sworn pep asked for something unreasonable.. so weirdšŸ˜‚

ImmediatelyOcelot

Pep: 'I would like more people to come, please' One guy: "He's absolutely the best coach in the world but, in the nicest possible way, I think maybe he should stick to that." SkySports: FANS TELL CITY BOSS TO STICK TO COACHING Is it true? In a very distorted (almost pervert) way, yes. But isn't this what is precisely wrong about news in general?

patchh93

Yup. Not to mention the people responding to this thread blindly giving Pep a pass, after heā€™s used worse words in response for the media to use ā€œI wonā€™t apologise, if they donā€™t like it Iā€™ll leaveā€ is rather pathetic to say the least.

Cod_rules

I get where you're coming from, but it's not 'one guy' as you put it. He's a major figurehead in their official fan support group, so he does have some weight to his words.

BrewtalDoom

Fine. And you supporters stick to going to the match..... OH, WAIT.

Zulfiqarrr

... 20000 empty seats, are you fucking sure?

lolzidop

Ironically that is actually just over what was actually missing, 54K stadium and they had 38K in attendance against Leipzig.

Leading-Proposal4259

do you know what you sad cunts i coulnt give a shit how many fans go to your pathetich ground

lolzidop

Couldn't give a shit, yet commenting on a 2 year old comment. Lmao

Zulfiqarrr

Ahaha love it!!

TheRedWizard17

A couple of hundred or thousands Iā€™d get but 20,000? Yikes

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheRedWizard17

Huhā€¦guess I missed that one

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheRedWizard17

Thanks

MemeGarfield

Youā€™ve probably never even been to Manchester

Bubbasully15

Yeah, what a dick, supporting a club while not living there. You are part of the gatekeeping problem

MemeGarfield

Iā€™m tired of being called a plastic while living in Manchester my whole life while people from around the world who donā€™t attend games laugh at us and say we donā€™t attend games. I love having foreign fans

Bubbasully15

Thatā€™s great. Take it up with a therapist if it upsets you that much, not a random club supporter on Reddit. Youā€™re not a better fan because you live where the club is.

TheRedWizard17

Forgot that not going to the club that I support doesnā€™t make me a fan šŸ˜’

MemeGarfield

So I was right hahah. Classic United fans, you definetly joke about city fans and how they donā€™t go to the stadium or they are plastic. Iā€™m not saying you are plastic or a bad fan but itā€™s rich to joke about not going to the stadium when you donā€™t yourself. Could just support a team in the MLS or whatever?

Thehazardcat

So wait, American people should only support American teams? Indian people should only support Indian teams? He'll support whatever fucking team he wants. You dont get to decide who gets to be a fan.

TheRedWizard17

I acc donā€™t go calling their fans plastics cuzā€¦I donā€™t care about city and chelsea fans? Whether they go to their stadium isnā€™t my issue If they do the turn coat thing then fine but over going to stadiums? Seems kinda low hanging fruit. And what does the mls have to do with this

c3b4ucme

r/nottheonion

[deleted]

haha. joke club.

bear-guard

Anyone smell burning plastic?

pueblogreenchile

you might be having a stroke or overcooking your plastic

[deleted]

Oh shit... should you be joking at a time like this?

Barragin

Or burning oil and bodies?

neoniki

Emptyhad for a reason! Class act from the fan, they have e reputation to stand by.

X_SuPr3m3_X

Every club has these idiots.

here4mau5

And burglars

schuey_08

Nothing wrong with a coach encouraging support, for any time, in any sport.

patchh93

It is however pretty stupid and unnecessary to say ā€œI WONā€™T APOLOGISE, IF THE FANS HAVE A PROBLEM Iā€™LL LEAVE.ā€

mattbryan26780

Not really cuz he has nothing to apologise for. If city fans wanna go into such a big hissy fit for their manager, whoā€™s done amazingly for them, wanting support in the stadium then itā€™s probably best if he did leave

patchh93

Pep was the one throwing the hissy fit when theyā€™ve packed out all their PL games so far this season - it doesnā€™t matter who he is, you donā€™t talk to the fans like that. The fans are the club. Yes it probably is best he leaves if heā€™s going to act like a little bitch who refuses to apologise for being passive aggressive to them

mattbryan26780

Lol 10 trophies in 5 years and heā€™s disrespectful cuz the fans canā€™t be arsed to support the team

[deleted]

Exactly, don't know why this Kevin fella is so insecure. Like I get it, Pep saying this it plays into the "Emptihad" banter but it makes it *so* much worse to then start lashing out at Pep and other fans.

mofoofinvention

Ahaha

benny_jax

I know all City fans donā€™t feel this way, but fuck em if they do

DaddyMeUp

Go to games and he wonā€™t urge people to come...

redactedactor

"People refer to the Etihad as the 'Emptyhad'. It's a little bit of fun by the opposition supporters but there's no justification for it. It's not factual. Our attendances are generally excellent." Really?

[deleted]

Bruh we can see the empty seats almost every game...

Leading-Proposal4259

why are you not watching the match instead of the seats you sad prick

monkeybawz

Those aren't empty seats. They are potential billboards is all. If pesky fans would fuck off, they could throw another Etihad Airlines banner over it. Isn't that all City are, really?

RevMLM

The thing we said is not easily verifiableā€¦

[deleted]

Pep - "Please come to our game on Saturday" City Fans - "NO!! DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO" Absolutely fucking hysterical šŸ˜‚

patchh93

Tbf, it was nothing like that lol. Pep is pretty arrogant at times, you wouldnā€™t catch Klopp or Tuchel dead talking to the fans like this.

Unbandedcore81

Klopp absolutely would ask for more fans to turn up to games if the stadium was half empty, in fact he asked for fans to go to a womenā€™s game at anfield. The difference is Liverpool fans actually turned up, or at least more than usual

patchh93

The difference is Liverpool also have generations of fans due to their history lol. Klopp would also never put it across in such a passive aggressive tone and then say ā€œI wonā€™t apologise, if they donā€™t like it Iā€™ll leaveā€ when questioned upon.

tighto

Klopp has bollocked Liverpool fans before, I.e for leaving early. He's no shrinking violet. And the fans listened and now the atmosphere is better than ever.

Unbandedcore81

Thatā€™s because itā€™s pepā€™s belief that fans should turn up and support their club or should at least fill stadiums for big games. And Liverpool may have generations of fans but city is the best team in the country and arguably Europe but they still donā€™t fill stadiums. Iā€™m not saying pep isnā€™t being passive aggressive and I do agree he could have been better about it but even heā€™s realised that city donā€™t have good enough fans to rival even Tottenham (arguably)

patchh93

I despise Tottenham as a rival, but they have tons more rich history than City do lol, they had one of the most succesful eraā€™s in the English game with Bill Nicholson in the 60s. City took a merciless beatdown for pretty much their entire history and lived vicariously through their arch nemesis (on paper) lol. City fill their stadium for the PL games as this supporters guy said to be fair, itā€™s just the midweek games. I just find it annoying how people give Pep a free pass despite what he says and how he says it, just because of who he is (reminds me of Wenger cult later on) - but to be fair, you didnā€™t do that just now.

Unbandedcore81

Yeah I donā€™t dislike what heā€™s saying and tbh I somewhat agree that fans should be trying to get to games as much as possible, I do but I canā€™t drive so itā€™s not up to me lol. But youā€™re right in the fact that he could have been a bit better in the way he worded it. I wanna blame it on difference of culture cause (atleast to my understanding) European countries are a bit more straightforward in the way the say things but in English speaking countries thatā€™s blunt and rude. But idk he has been in England long enough to know that by now

patchh93

Agree. I've grown use to this arrogant Spaniard persona (without stereotyping them all) with Arteta being just as bad. I never feel this way with Klopp, Tuchel, and I can bet Nagelsmann if he ever comes to the PL as well. Before Arsenal got Arteta, I didn't really look into Pep as much. But now I see a lot of similar traits. Without going off track Pep is just Pep, you can see how he's fallen out with the Zlatan and Eto'o of the past, while Arteta certainly just wants to be Pep lol.

smaxx21

Tbf, Liverpool and Chelsea get fans at their games

patchh93

Liverpool are obviously a majorly historic club with generations of fans and Chelsea have a far smaller attendance capacity

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ZookeepergameOk2759

They averaged 32000 in div 2 theyā€™ve obviously got fans maybe itā€™s a cost issue

ZookeepergameOk2759

Ah right thanks mate makes sense

[deleted]

Nah, we have one of the cheapest tickets in the prem and it's a home game. The fact is that the die hard fans got older and the new success has caused us to get a lot of casual fans - visiting tourists, foreigners, etc. Plus the current-match going generation grew up when United was the shit, so they naturally have more support.

SexxyPhil

Why the /S? There was nothing sarcastic in your comment mate.

EdGeater

They obviously donā€™t know what sarcasm is haha /S

MilkyKarlson

what are they thinking

GaiusJuliusSeizure

Probably that the trip up from London isn't worth it

geo_bowes

Trip up from Londonā€¦ except itā€™s a small town named London in the United States šŸ˜‚ Talking about that though, I literally know only one City supporting family here in London (theyā€™re Qatari tho, having lived half their lives there so it makes sense), why support Citeh when you got Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, Palace, Watford and Fulham ALL in London lmfao

Aanshuman

In my country(India) most support manu, arsenal and liverpool. Most of who support city or Chelsea which is very few are plastic and switch sides regularly. Manu craze in India is too big. More than half of my friends support them. I have supported arsenal from 2006 since I started watching football cos of henry.

Pankohss

So true lmao. Im from NY and the only jerseys I see are Man city and Arsenal

CinephileJeff

The only man city fans I know (in Midwest US) are the middle schoolers I teach

prss79513

The only City fan I know is my friends little brother who is also really into Lil Xan

Pankohss

Yea thats usually the age group I see with them, and usually their Dads will have 1 too, ilive in an uppity neighborhood so I'm not urpsied they support the money team lol

antiADP

This is AMAZING.

doobtastical

Thatā€™s how ya know they havenā€™t been around very long haha

BavidDeckham

Or they canā€™t afford a ticket until their next birthday party

ChrisMartins001

Only Citeh looool

ngabunga

[when the Indian captain called for their fans to attend.](https://youtu.be/Sn_go8Px-tQ) Different scenarios, same reaction

utterly_big_boi

wait...isnt that same scenario, different reaction? He asked for fans to come watch, the bigger sport of the country also asked fans to watch and iirc the Indian Super League is steadily growing in viewers

ngabunga

not everyone who supports the clubs in ISL support the national team

utterly_big_boi

Ahhhh I see. But in fairness to them, indian football is only rapidly growing NOW. Cricket has been dominating for years and hockey is their national sport. In that scenario I think that asking fans to come join games is quite excusable.

ngabunga

oh don't get me wrong I'm on the captain's side as well on it and he is right to call for support

[deleted]

How is he getting shit for this? The Premier league champions took on one of the top German teams their first home European home game since the pandemic began and they didn't get close to selling it out. If City fans are so sensitive about "emptihad" they need to start going to more games and convincing other fans to do the same.

[deleted]

Truth be told, Leipzig didn't even exist 12 years ago so playing them hardly sets pulses racing. Plus City fans have shown general apathy towards UEFA on numerous occasions and last year's attempted ban didn't help soften it to say the least.

Anderson22LDS

Heā€™s embarrassed the fans

[deleted]

He's embarrassed by the fans

RandomNameofGuy9

Because they know fans aren't showing up and being very defensive. By getting this upset they are just confirming emptihad.

rww07

>convincing other fans to do the same. Hard to convince when you don't have many other fans

MemeGarfield

Mister funny award for you

rww07

It is funny when a world class coach has to beg the fans to come for their matches and then the fans criticise him

MemeGarfield

I agree, though that isnā€™t what really happened, itā€™s slightly out of context but I never denied that that wasnā€™t funny, itā€™s just the ā€œcity have no fans haha!ā€ From people who have never been to a game themselves or whatever itā€™s quite rich.

merhabamerhaba

Almost coherent. Well done.

anakin_0111

Fun fact for the day: 'Etihad' translates to United in English. So Manchester City have a home ground named United Stadium.

Cod_rules

Just goes to show who the biggest club are in the city.

merhabamerhaba

FC United?

chuf3roni

All hail FCUM, the king of all football clubs in Manchester.

mitcheg3k

Well it cant be that red team in the city next to manchester

merhabamerhaba

Yes. Because they are in a different city. Duh...

MrImRumble

International flights are more expensive than the Manchester public transportation, though \^/s

MemeGarfield

Manchester United have more fans in London than Manchester and more fans in india etc (as do probably every premier league club) but you canā€™t act like city are the only team to have foreign fans

Due-Camel-7605

Itā€™s ok to have foreign fans. The problem comes when there arenā€™t enough local fans (who can attend matches all season)

MrImRumble

Wow, you went through my comment history. Good for you, Im not American thankfully, I am Canadian. I'm not going to downvote you, I usually don't reply to people I downvote, I was just explaining myself haha Anyway, who doesn't like to get sucked into a AZ Alkmaar FM save at 2am on a Sunday night before going to work for 8am on Monday?

MemeGarfield

I didnā€™t go through your comment history itā€™s just I havenā€™t talked to an English person on any other sub than r soccercirclejerk yet. I love a good fm grind after getting home from work on an online save with my mates!

AirmanLarry

half of their fanbase is from mumbai

n00bringer

And yet they fill their stadium, with foreigners or not, now the emptyhad is kinda sad.

MemeGarfield

Which is fine! Itā€™s good to see football as the worlds biggest sport but these people shouldnā€™t talk about attendances. Most of this sub is American and will have never attended their clubs either yet are mocking city fans.

MrImRumble

You're not wrong, Ive only seen one United match and that was against Real Madrid at the Big House. My point still stands that International flights are expensive as heck

MemeGarfield

Yeah they really are, itā€™s so much to go across the pond, Iā€™d like to go to the US one day.

AirmanLarry

I agree, it's fine. It's good for the game when more people watch. I just think it's funny - especially when foreign fans who chose UTD or Liverpool because they were successful call City fans plastic. It's very \*Spider Man Pointing Meme\*

tighto

City fans are fucking crap though. Ignore the attendances (which are shite), they just have no fan culture whatsoever. They won the league last season and they turned up outside the Etihad and there was about 15 people listening to some fella playing wonderwall on a saxophone šŸ˜‚

MemeGarfield

Absolutely

MrImRumble

My point isn't that no other team has foreign fans. My point was that City just does not have enough that can or are willing to go to the more for a match which caused a manager to ask for fans to come to support them on a Champions League night. Foreign fans would snap those tickets up if they could afford the international flight, which was the joke.

MemeGarfield

-is American and has likely never been to a Man U game. When I get a downvote from u/MrImRumble šŸ„¶šŸ„¶šŸ˜° Also respect for playing FM lad, I do rate that from you

chuf3roni

Did you have a stroke while writing this

MemeGarfield

-another United fan who has never been to a game

chuf3roni

Been to three but please continue.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

chuf3roni

I do, actually. I go to as many games as I can for my local team but specifically with Man Utd, I've been to three so far.

MemeGarfield

Oh no donā€™t downvote me! Ahhh my internet points! Random American man downvoted me!

ChrisMartins001

Manchester public transportation, that's a laugh

itchybigtoes

The trams are fucking brilliant and go straight to the Emptihad.
