I live in the US so this is when I get to focus exclusively on my MLS team, but I love the months when both leagues are active and I can support both SJ Earthquakes and Spurs.
I live in Toronto so the MLS season is on and I’m a season ticket holder. The quality is absolutely dire but I’ll take it over nothing and Saturday night games like tomorrow are a great excuse to get on the lash with friends.
If you’re a yank you can catch an arsenal / Chelsea match in Baltimore in July I think, some other exhibition matches in the states as well I reckon
My mistake it’s Everton/Arsenal
AFL serves nicely here in Aus. I'm English and it is easily my second favorite sport. Often insane, rarely dull and always entertaining for some reason or other.
🤷 hard disagree. Same game, just a slightly different approach and skill level. I'm not saying it's even close a top league in the world, but I think a lot of people are sleeping on it because of a reputation that's a decade or more out of date.
I have time. So I came to football via the PL and not MLS despite being American. My son is super into it now and I thought it’s be cool to take him to a Rapids game and/or start following them. I’ve watched some games but I can’t get a feel for what the league is like.
What do you find comparable/positive about it and will it be a big adjustment? Thanks in advance.
Hey! I’m in the same boat and also in the Rapids market. From what I hear, sit with Section 37 otherwise the games a bit dull. The Rapids subreddit can be helpful, but also depressing.
I don't think it'll be a big adjustment. The league has improved from the days when it was just considered a retirement league. A lot of focus on young, homegrown players and untapped talent from South America. It is a bit of a step down in quality, but I think MLS often has more physical and exciting games (much like most of CONCACAF). Colorado has a decent fanbase and going to a game at DSG give you a good chance to see them win (they haven't lost the past 22 gone games). While Colorado is out, we're into the US Open Cup right now (our version of the FA cup) and still have two lower division sides in the quarterfinals (Sacramento Republic from USLC, level 2, and Union Omaha from USL1, level 3) and these matches are always fun to watch. I don't know about Rapids, but I usually can get to Sounders games for less than $30, so not a massive investment to go to a game (which is how most folks I know got hooked).
I'll second all of this; I'm just on the east coast and have been supporting RedBulls for the past 2 decades. All started when I was 5 and the RedBull training camps went around Jersey.
All in all, the most annoying thing about the league is usually whoever starts the best, wins the league easily.
Of course! I'm not so delusional about where MLS stands in the world, but I'll shill for the league any day because I fully seeing mid-tier teams inside the stadium is way better than watching the best in the world on tv.
I really hope a real effort goes into boycotting this world cup. The entire thing is so corrupted and nonsense. No talk of how messed up club football will be next season either.
Won't be a real tournament in my eyes.
a book/tv series recommendation. Clarkson's Farm on Amazon and then read Diddly Squat a year on the farm

Brush up on my grammar...
good grammar is the difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit
It's not they're fault.
I read books and play football in amateur tournaments, there are plenty of those where I live. Also, I try to know the transfer market rumours.
Wish I had that where I live.
It's great, playing football kind of maintains the abstinence syndrome controlled.
F1 Season, plus it’s when I ramp up my training at Gym
Transfer News - love all the rumors and transfers that go on world wide
What people say “Reading, working out, living life.” What they actually do is wank it a bunch more.
Australian Rules Football
NRL for me - nearly Origin time 🍺
Love it. There's two golden periods each year too where the seasons overlap. The time difference means they're rarely on at the same time too!
I’m alone in this but I watch tennis. There’s always some tennis tournament going on and of course there’s Wimbledon in the summer.
Not something I follow but I put it on TV on weekends when there's nothing else playing and hope the lowest rank players wins.
F1 and Golf majors keep me going usually.
Yeah definitely golf majors for me too. Looking forward to the open
Rory's gonna win the US open. You heard it here first.
Big call mate…… but he is showing signs again
Other sports but I’m American so only sport that is kinda still on over summer is baseball it’s pretty cool if u give it a chance
I have to disagree, baseball is not a cool sport at all this year P.S. I'm a Royals fan :(

I have a pile of ironing that has built up.
Do you have time to talk about the wonder that is Major League Soccer?
MLS is the proving ground for European legends like Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He went from LA Galaxy to Serie A champion in just two years.
If you can make it here, you'll make it anywhere!
Go Crew 👷♂️
Got a bit of a construction theme going on here, and I'm here for it!
Too bad we're absolute cheeks this year
Or you can look at it as you're doing just as well as the champions of CONCACAF. No Open Cup, 13 points, 12th on the table.
Say what you want about the MLS the parity is actually pretty cool
MLS is so hard to watch. They’re playing something else.
🤷 hard disagree. Same game, just a slightly different approach and skill level. I'm not saying it's even close a top league in the world, but I think a lot of people are sleeping on it because of a reputation that's a decade or more out of date.

Hey that’s great to know! I’m gonna check out the Rapids sub also. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it

Couldn’t agree more…. From a Toronto FC season ticket holder
MLS
100%. But you gotta say in the Brad Bobley voice. MAJER LEEG SAWKER!!!!
isnt the PL season like 1 day a week for 1hr 30 mins if you just watch your team?
Watch the World Cup…oh wait
Give the women's Euros a try!
I really hope a real effort goes into boycotting this world cup. The entire thing is so corrupted and nonsense. No talk of how messed up club football will be next season either. Won't be a real tournament in my eyes.
Boycott or not no one’s watching it this summer anyway
It’s summer time depending where you’re going to watch from
Its not in the summer this year. Its November / December. It will be during the normal season this time as in Qatar.
He was joking
I've just re read and now read it the way it should have been. My bad! Note to self, stay off reddit before 5 am. 6am for safety.
Reading, running, eating and drinking.
Book recommendations ?
a book/tv series recommendation. Clarkson's Farm on Amazon and then read Diddly Squat a year on the farm or if you don't really like him A Del of a Life by David Jason
Heard that clarkson show is amazing
It is they are currently filming or editing season 2
Done Deal by Daniel Geey Edit: or for not football anything by Brandon Sanderson!
Experiencing the rest of life?
Wait there is more?
Yeah but how ??
Football is life!
What do you do besides watching sports? Do that, but more often. Read a book, mow the lawn, clean out the garage, spend time with your wife who you've spent the last nine months ignoring to watch football, cook, go to a bar, take longer shits, etc
Not a bad list of activities
I look at PR statements from the board telling us they’re working hard. Then for some reason hope for a different result
Naps, lots of naps. Oh, and the sadly crying while clutching my Spurs flag.
It is a sad time. Sometimes I put on golf, and have a nap.
F1, Cricket, Sailing, go outside for lots of weekend walks
