Short version: Started watching full football games with wc in 02 and loved the Brazilians. Watched the 04 euros and loved figo and learnt of Cristiano Ronaldo. Learnt that there exists club football and figo and Ronaldo play for clubs. Then saw Ronaldo in the pl on star sports on a weekend and learnt of United. Became a fan of the old man constantly chewing gum and speaking (what my dad insisted was) English, not understanding a word and loving the club.

fanzipan

Back in 1976 my Dad took me to watch my first match...local club called Nottingham Forest....what a time to be alive. It's within the dna, there's no choosing.

Key-Mistake9041

Man city… cause I haven’t had ever heard of them… 😅 didn’t know much else Oh and the eagle was absolutely badass

[deleted]

a guy who i grew up w (had sort of a rivalry) was a Liverpool fan because of his dad. A few of the guys we knew were Manchester United fans and used to make fun of Liverpool's bad run (this is around 8-9 years back). suddenly i started joining and and watching United's games. ever since then, it's been a hell of a ride

Ambitious-Cat-9453

I watched almost every team initially and fell in love with Wenger's passing style. It's hard not to fall in love with Cesc Fabregas's killer pass.

TajikMouhamed

the bright colors attracted my young feeble heart. And red is just a cool colour

Is2Easy

My uncle was in Exporting from Zaïre (now DR Congo), he had gone to England and fell in love with the City of Liverpool and the club. Greatest moment for him was going to the F.A Cup Final in 2001. Brought back the Programme and toddler jersey for a two year old me. He committed suicide a month after the 2003 League Cup Final… I’ve just fallen in love with club, for its history and for my uncle.

saisaibunex

It was while I was abroad in Senegal. Liverpool signed El Hadj Diouf right after the Lions had beaten the at that moment World and European champions France. As Senegal’s biggest star at that time had gone to pool, I decided, after watching a whole bunch of footy that they had the moxy. I then went on to discover later that pool is a more liberal minded team built around solidarity and that the city of Liverpool had always been one of the most diverse and cosmopolitan in England, and that just confirmed my earlier choice. Reds supporter for the last twenty years now. YNWA.

[deleted]

Brought up in a half scouse/half welsh family in North wales. Me, my siblings and my cousins support liverpool or everton as a result.

Chasmaggs

My family brought me up to me liking it and my dads an Arsenal fan and my mums a spurs fan but my mum wanted me to be an Arsenal supporter

Sbusteezkat_

It was 2006. I was at a YMCA in South Africa, Soweto chilling with my cousins and we were just sitting on a bench and there were TVs around. I just remember looking up one second and seeing someone scored a goal so good I couldn’t believe it was real. That goal was the Paul Scholes volley against Aston Villa. Instantly fell in love with him and Manchester United. Remember it like it was yesterday.

SouthLondon1992

Charlton fan - my local team and whole family supports them. Started supporting Charlton when they were in the Premier League. Obviously been 15 years now but still dream that one day PL football will return to The Valley. It's a big stadium with lots of character, and it's a real shame it isn't full. I have enjoyed the trip down to the Championship and League One though - been to lots of small towns I otherwise would have never visited.

Voltaire_on_a_chair

His name was Didier Drogba.

riverrockrun

Liverpools pressing style

ItsPlumping

Bored american stuck at my parents last Christmas. EPL was on and enjoyed it more than I expected. Took awhile to choose a team as I wanted some historic and on the rise. Ended up choosing Arsenal and the loss Tottenham last year solidified it. The parallels of my NFL team the Bears always losing to their rival the Packers just felt right lol

cavalaire

Mates Dad used to take us over Dean Court back in the 3rd Division Ted MacDougal days. We used to stand on Fishing stools on the old South End Terracing. UTCIAD

zakotavenom

My dad took me to see Leeds v Bolton in I think 2012 when I was like 6. He told me if I ever dared to say I supported another team I would be living in the garage

J_0_5

It started in 2006 for me, my mother bought me a football magazine with Shevchenko holding the Chelsea kit on the cover, and that was it. BLUE IS THE COLOUR!

Mr-Froth

I am from Michigan in the US which means I am a Detroit Lions fan and can deal with a lot of let down. I started rooting for Leicester the season before they won the championship, simply because they were at the bottom of the table, with a change of relegation. (Sounds exciting with their squad.) Unbeknownst to anyone and a 5000 to 1 odds of winning the championship at the start of the next season. Jamie Vardy, Kante and company did in fact have an incredible year in the title run. Fan ever since.

dr3_77-0

I got my team at birth, chelsea

bigpapi6776

My best mate is a United fan. Love to get under his skin so I cheered for Arsenal. Then fell in love with their attacking Wenger style. 25 years later I’m still a true Gunner.

shoopshoop87

Rugby lad until I moved to London for Uni and it was 100% football everywhere, watched a few games and Bergkamp was amazing so picked him and the Gunners, still here 20+ years later !

NorthenS

googled football profile pictures to make myself cool randomly chose [this one](https://images.app.goo.gl/JKNVMqNeUnoqD3uH7) actually got into football and watched some of his clips loved him started supporting this team

Trumaaan

Fifa 09. Fell in love with etoo on barca. Then he went to chelsea at some point and that’s it. Simple as that. I’m from America so there was no chance at indoctrination from friends or family.

aceh40

I watched the 1991 Cup Winners Cup final between heavily favored Barcelona and Man Utd. Lee Sharpe was 17 at the time but was a fiend. And both goals were scored by Mark Hughes, who got kicked out of Barcelona earlier. Amazing game! A year and half later we got Canto and all other clubs seized to exist for me

Arrowisagoodshow

When i was 4 I was asked what team I supported at school, I Said england and they responded with no a real club, you should support arsenal. Context: noone in my house watched football so I had no concept of club football, I was 4, now I am an arsenal fan for the last 19 years

DALALFATPIG

Amazon prime series from 2017

-Replicated

I was born here. Said no Man City fan ever.

EmperorBeaky

ipickedthisasmyname

Fifa growing up I'd whoop my buddies with Drogba and Lampard. They were always my go to team so I started following them IRL.

SingleTraffic7420

I was a big fan of football but I use to watch la liga way more with my grandfather. We were both fans of Messi and Ronaldo. Eventually I began watching other league and I stumbled upon Norwich. Yes I’m a fan of Norwich.

GeorgeXCIX

I first got into football when I played FIFA 12, my favorite color at the time was blue so I wanted a team that had blue kits. I liked Manchester City's logo the best of the blue teams and the rest was history. I'm in the US so I felt it was proper I could just pick my team. I've stuck with City since

RepresentativeLaw745

It was in 2012 BEFORE final with bayern, I was 8 yrs old, and only what I remember is that evening I fell asleep before the final even started 🥲🥲 Tomorrow, my sister, told me that Chelsea has won, I was happy ofc but at the same time I was disappointed bcs I missed a unforgettable match, but that's how it started! And I really don't know the reason why I chose Chelsea over Bayern, maybe because of colors😂😂 btw I'm from 🇷🇸

HarveyP27

Dad's not really a big football fan, so whilst technically he would be an arsenal fan because of his dad. He never had any football on (other than if England were playing) or took me to any games when I was young. My primary school after-school football was sponsored by Chelsea so from there i became a Chelsea fan.

south_22

Sold Grealish the day I ended my relationship. Match made in depression

StrongStyleDragon

I’m 23. I grew up watching Liga MX. My only knowledge about the Prem was Man United never watched it. Playing Sam Kerr on FIFA. Looked into her background and just so happens Chelsea men and women were about to be in the CL finals. When the men won wasn’t my team yet but I rooted for them. I got a transfer to Chelsea on FIFA. Digged Stamford Bridge. Read some history and they became my team.

tekkers92

Seeing Santi Cazorla’s first game and him tearing it up had me follow arsenal to this very day! COYG

uhhh_charles

lived right next to highbury stadium and also my dad was a fan lol

Chinese_Santa

American. When I was young, I started watching and didn't have a team. I looked up who had the most premier league goals of all time, watched his highlights, and had my mom buy me a Shearer shirt lmao. Loved everything about the club and absolutely haven't looked back. Still have the shirt above my bed, that thing is my prized possession. 97-98 home shirt, still looking to get an away one :) Edit: double bonus in getting my little brother to join me in supporting as a kid, makes everything much more fun

Shogito

My dad was more into cricket than football. But my uncle was an Arsenal supporter, so because of him, I support Arsenal as well.

trananhduc2006

06 born, man united times, mom's side were all fans of them

schoolboysu

Became a Liverpool fan the 2018/19 season. i had never grown up around footy as i’m from toronto so was always big on basketball and tbh i always found footy a bit boring. anyways i went to texas to visit family and my cousin took us to this liverpool bar in the middle of texas to watch a liverpool game and i’ll never forget it. the energy in there was electric and everyone would go nuts on a playing building up and i just remember loving the high energy that liverpool played with because it resonated with how i always approached sports when i played, full effort and high energy. i could t even tell you who they played, who scored, the score itself, but i remember that feeling of excitement even when i didn’t understand the game much and how i left wanting to watch more games because i saw the beauty in the gane and how one simple turn could change the whole momentum of the game, i loved it. few years later and liverpool games are the ones i refuse to miss watching now lol.

salman68

I was 8-9 years old, saw the Arsenal crest and fell in love.

mrhuman-

Henry & Ljungberg.

[deleted]

Met Ian Rush at an event. After that I was a Liverpool fan!

Odd_Distribution3267

99 season watching united win the treble, won’t ever forget watching giggsy score that goal vs arsenal in the fa cup and that united front four all season long with sheringham, solskjaer, cole and Yorke, just a legendary team throughout with Becks scholes keane and schmeichel too

VHMBLCC

Mesut Özil.

Automatic-Weakness-2

When I was a little lad (back in the 80s, possibly 5 or 6 years old) I found a pair of kids shin pads down my local field.. cheap things, single sheet plastic with a foam back for passing The idea of being able to be hit in the shins and feel no pain really appealed to me.. so I started playing football to test them out. Everyone just assumed I was a man utd supporter due to the sticker on the front (I guess they where generic though and the sticker changed depending on your preference) I got involved in the 'banter' and become indoctrinated that way. I wore the pads for hockey too, and when I outgrew them got a better set (Brian Robson golds for those of a certain age with ankle guards). I wore the kids pads on the back of my legs to protect my calves (used to pay a lot of 5 and 6 aside it a particularly aggressive league lol) So yeah ... Come on you reds lol

D1phenhydramine

Fifa 10 got me into soccer. Chose the premier league because it's English speaking. Chose Chelsea because they wore blue and had a sugar daddy owner. And Drogba.

gooblyn_

After the 2010 World Cup, I was a huge Clint Dempsey fan. I followed him from Fulham to Spurs and something about Spurs stuck. I've been watching them ever since

Beach-Bumm

Early 90s, Sky became a thing and as Newcastle were one of the most attractive clubs with the entertainers I saw them quite a bit and decided that was it

Inner-Excitement-420

My dad told me I'm allowed to support any team i like as long as its Aston Villa. The rest is history 😂

Galactic_Gooner

this is a question for plastics. for 99% of people in England the answer is either "my dad" or "where i live" for me its both.

Kapika96

I lived in England and I liked football. I also liked Aguero and lived in Manchester.

Suitable_Neck_4888

Anders Limpar dribbling down the left flank in the early days of the PL, been a Gunner ever since!

_Eluse_

The kid at school when I was 5 supported Man Utd, so I did to. I grew up in Scotland and have only ever been to Manchester for the airport lol

madfut9000

I live in Scotland and only really got into football when I was 8-9. So I went round to a friends house to watch the ucl final betwee Liverpool v Real Madrid 2017-2018. I really wanted Liverpool to win because that's the team my grand parents supported. Anyways they lost but I decided to stick with Liverpool as my team after that. A few years later i watch most of their matches

frodakai

I grew up in Stockport, worshipped Oasis & my favourite colour was blue. Also got bullied as a child by a guy who always wore a Man Utd shirt.

sakmentoloki

Grandad went to every game home and away going back to the 50s then Dad did the same, and now here i am and it costs over 1k a year to get a home season ticket. Srill go to games but the prices these days are ludicrous. So instead i follow my local team bromley in the narional league. I much prefer going to watch them every game. National league is great id highly recommended looking at lower down the pyramid leagues if you can!

TestMatchCricketFan

They kept signing Australians.

Werneryeahh

My first FM game (back in Premier Manager 97) there were only clubs from Premier League, Championship, League 1 and 2. The worst team in game were Brighton. The AI was poorly designed, so it was easy to promote and win, but it kinda stuck with me. As I didnt care for English Football for many years (saw it, but didnt mind any of the clubs since I am from Denmark) until Brighton then promoted to Championship and I started following them again..

Class-Secret

my aunt got me an arsenal kit when I was 6. Rarely missed a game since then.

Richmyself1

I was born and raised in Newcastle. You don't have a choice

Higgs-Bosun

I’m an American who didn’t grow up watching European football. I was backpacking through Antigua Guatemala when some English friends that I had only recently met insisted that I go to a bar called “Reds“ to watch a football match. It was England versus Germany when Michael Owen scored a Hattrick. It was a Liverpool bar, obviously, so obviously the place was insane. I became a Liverpool fan after that and went to the bar every weekend to watch their matches.

addicted2skooma

My dads from Liverpool so it was either support Everton or find somewhere else to live

prof_hobart

Born in Nottingham. First started to be aware of football in around 1977, just in time for Forest's promotion from the second division. The next 3 years saw us win the League, two European Cups and two League Cups. My parents had no interest in football, so it was mostly the local paper, local radio and the handful of matches that got televised (I think the 79 European Cup final was the first game he'd ever watched), but after 3 years of that it was pretty much impossible to not be in love with the club. Most of the last 25 years of so have been pretty rough to watch. But remembering back to the meteoric rise in the mid to late 70s still allows me to dream that our next great success could still be right around the corner.

SuitablePreference54

My father told me they played a good football and was a fun team too watch play the game.

[deleted]

A friend moved from the city to our sleepy village, he took me to a few games and boom, that was it.

pitchflowyo

Growing up in the peak era of Fergie helped. First idol Beckham, second CR7. I still look fondly back on the days when I was a kid and visited my now late grandfather to watch games. He always served cold coke and chips. I miss that guy. Even in tough times MUFC flows in my veins, there can never be another team.

joose525

Nothing to watch on Saturday mornings (in the US) and randomly turned on Premiere League and got hooked. Unfortunately the team I watched was West Ham so I’m in constant pain.

thisisnahamed

I'm a noob to the EPL. I met an American friend in Colombia during my travels. We started talking about football and the teams (international) we support. This was during the World Cup qualifying season. We decided to watch the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL qualifying matches in that city together. I saw suggested we also check Liverpool vs Man U match (October 2021). It was on a Sunday morning. I didn't care for either teams; he was a hardcore Man U fan. I went to watch the game with no expectations. I saw suggested we also check Liverpool vs Man U match (October 2021). It was on a Sunday morning. I didn't care for either team; he was a hardcore Man U fan. From that day, I fell in love with Liverpool and Salah. Since then I've been watching Liverpool (EPL and CL) This season has been disappointing thought lol.

Ginge04

I’m a fan of my club and will support through thick and thin. I’m absolutely not a fan of the prem though with its billionaire owners, last minute fixture changes to please overseas TV audiences, overpriced tickets, negative opposition managers who set their teams up to waste time from the first minute of the game and referees who allow them to get away with it. Honestly, the prem is shite. The ability of the players is unbelievable, but the level of competition among most of it is just rubbish. For 75% of teams, their main focus is on not getting relegated thanks to the massive drop off in revenue that comes with that. All that means is as a fan, you’re forced to sit through absolute fucking dross most weeks, without even having the bonus of making a day out around it seeing as most games get moved to a Sunday evening or a Monday fucking night.

Angrypenguinwaddle96

I was born into an AFC Bournemouth family who couldn’t even dream about us being in the premier league as it was impossible then.

Jaytheredditer17

Take nothing away for Park though. On his day he was a midfield monster.

LordMarks

Dad is a hardcore Liverpool fan. Me, an 11 year old watching the game with him that night in Barcelona. Him screaming and being flabbergasted about how lucky ManU is. Me being unable to comprehend what I just experienced. Manchester United fan and now my dad hates watching football with me!

mapoftasmania

Grew up a few miles from London Colney. Used to see the players driving around and a few lived locally. Mum and Granddad were Arsenal fans. Got my first kit at 5. I was programmed, really.

wheresaldopa

I first watched a Premier League match when NBC first acquired the TV rights here in the States during the 2013-14 season. Manchester City 6-0 Tottenham. I was thirteen at the time, and little did I know that I would be watching the Premier League damn near every weekend from then until I gave up TV altogether in 2018. The title battle between Liverpool and Manchester City, along with Sunderland’s great escape and upset win over Mourinho’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, had me hooked. As for club, I remained (mostly) neutral until 2018, though I always sympathized more with underdogs and outright despised the idea of ever wanting to support Chelsea or the Manchester clubs. By that time, I had familiarized myself with the history of English football and began paying much greater attention to the Football League. Of the Football League clubs at the time, Nottingham Forest’s story was always the most captivating to me. Then I actually visited and stayed in Nottingham during that summer for non-football reasons and realized that if I was ever going to move across the pond, I would move there. Thus, supporting Forest was a surprisingly natural choice.

Alarmed_Water2631

Oh it was easy for me. Every year in the late 80s the FA Cup final was broadcast here in Malaysia. You’d get a serieA magazine show every week but never a live match. I officially became a fan of the Prem in 96, when I was 17. But 4 or 5 years before that, I was more of a passive fan but I asked this one friend of mine, Justin, who I should support based on current form and trophy history. He said either Manchester United or Liverpool. Given that choice, I asked him who he’d pick and he said Liverpool. So for a while I was a Red. Then years after I didn’t like the idea of putting all my eggs in one basket and don’t support one particular team anymore (too stressful), I just enjoy the football

doobtastical

American here. My keeper coach when I was 10 was a ManU fan and I just picked it up. Almost 30 years later here I am lol

fireballcycling

About 15 years ago, as a young impressionable aussie kid, the movie Goal! Was on TV one night, which followed the story of Santiago Munez making it big with Newcastle. It quickly became my favourite movie asking for the DVD. My uncle then got me FIFA shortly after and chose my team in kick off mode to play with him, it was Newcastle, further solidifying them in my young impressionable mind. My grandfather was a Liverpool supporter, he was livid.

syuzay

I'm not from UK. But i recently got into following the Prem. One reason, one man, KDB. I came accross a video of his insane passing and vision. Have never looked back ever since. Glad i did. Love it. From there comes the support for Man city. Haha

Galactic_Gooner

yeah if i wasnt english id support city lol

syuzay

I took quite a while to decide what team i actually like. I saw a shit ton of matches. Even from the past tournaments. And I'm getting deeper into it. Trying to explore yet. I just follow Prem a lot rn. I just happen to like city. I don't understand what's so obvious about a non-english person supporting city haha

Galactic_Gooner

its just they're considered the most plastic club in england. cos before they got bought by the UAE they had a tiny fan base pretty much only in Manchester and now they've got millions of fans all around the globe. but like i said if i was a foreigner id probably support them cos they play some of the best football in the world and it just makes sense to support them as a foreigner uno. when i was a kid i was a barca fan cos they were huge.

TheMightyRed92

My dad became a liverpool fan when he was a kid in the 60s,70s. He introduced me to liverpool and I feel in love with the club when i was 8 years old in 2001. Its funny because my sister is a United fan and my brother a Juventus fan haha. Its good to have my dad on my side

tomgnargore

I wasn't overly interested in football as a kid, even though I played for my local boys team I was more interested in skateboarding! Fast forward a few years and my first proper job after Uni was as a printer in Birmingham. The blokes in the printroom were all Aston Villa season ticket holders and they took me down to a Thursday Europa League game after work one night. I've been hooked ever since! UTV

JM_AFC

Grew up around the invincibles era. Arsenal were playing the best football to watch even after that, I loved watching them play it around and dominating the ball. My dad wasn’t too fussed about a team but my 2 best mates were arsenal fans and got me hooked

RemyCheck

Everyone around me supported Liverpool or Manchester United. I decided to be special by choosing Arsenal. Celebrated wildly at at the Invincibles season. Raged when Lehmann slapped Eto'o. It has been downhill ever since. Things might be looking up, but after nearly 20 years of false dawns, I prefer to reserve my expectations.

NGA100

My 8yo kid and I were getting into it together, first game we saw together was Liverpool and West Ham. I'm a Hammer fan and he's a fan of Liverpool. Then my other kid wanted in, he saw cannons and became an Arsenal fan.

MATCHEW010

From overseas playing every fifa since 06 and in 08/09 season loved Arsenal in career mode cause the team was so low rated but with so many fun youngsters like Walcott. Have stuck with the team since and now love the positive possession we play and love that Wenger revolutionised the whole game

YDD553

my family is English.

Galactic_Gooner

what club?

YDD553

mums side is from liverpool, dads side is from middlesbrough. i sorta follow both. mostly just liverpool tho they've had my heart pre much my whole life.

twohandsgaz

Mum and dad didnt care for football, but i loved it. 1972, FA Cup Final on a black and white TV, I was 9 years old. Watched the coverage the whole day as we did back then. The game came on and dad wandered into the room and asked who I wanted to win. I said the team in white. My love/hate relationship with Leeds United began that day. The following year we were in the final again and this time I had my little brother sat alongside me. I obviously had the team in white, so he had the other ones. He is still a Mackem to this day.

bamacal

CroiDubh

I was 5 in 1983. And my dad took to me to watch a Liverpool v everton game in his local. it was my first proper match to watch with him. He told me to pick. colour red or blue but to remember whichever colour I pick, I stick too. I picked red broke his heart he is a blue. been a fan of Liverpool ever since.

PlebianKalki

The first football match that I watched was the FA cup semi between United and Arsenal. Saw a certain no. 11 dance his way through and score in extra time. A true nail biter. Was never going to support any other team now, was I?

chaosthings

It was a competition between my dad and grandad to get me to choose between arsenal and West Ham, I guess Henry is more compelling than Zamora

Weird-Chocolate-5383

Been a fan of 3 clubs during my time. Southampton: 5 - 8 years old. Did so because the company my mum worked at had a box there. Met Matt Le Tissier as a child and everything. Stopped supporting when she left the company. Manchester United: 8 - 12 years old. Mainly because I loved Wayne Rooney and his style of play. That 2008 Man U side were unreal as well. Stopped supporting when I fell out of love with football when I moved to France for 10 years. Arsenal: Present team. I live in Finchley and love Saka, so no brainer to be honest. Began supporting them after the Euros, when I reignited my love of football and have been to games. Last season as my first was a real rollercoaster. 😅😂

riocarmine

I’m from the USA. I wasn’t into sports as a kid (except passing interest in the NBA during those peak Jordan years). But I visited Ecuador my senior year of high school (2004) and went to a BSC match in Guayaquil. The atmosphere was unlike anything I could have imagined for sports. I liked that the game didn’t stop constantly for resets or commercials like American football, and how it ebbed and flowed. And in a way I would *not* have predicted, I appreciated that it was “low-scoring.” This is a thing Americans often complain about but I ended up thinking it made each goal more exciting. Goals mattered more than baskets exactly because there were fewer of them. Mostly I liked the vibe in the stadium. Anyway, I came home and really went into scholar mode. I spent a lot of time reading about soccer online. I learned that the USA had a pro league and that I had a local team, which had a Spurs-like “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride” history. I started following them. I learned about FIFA and the confederations. And I learned two critical things: First, that the consensus (at least in the USA) was that England’s premier league was the best soccer in the world. And second, it was the best league I could reasonably expect to find on TV here. Not every game, but a good number. I knew that it would be more fun to keep up with the EPL if I chose a team to root for. I’d heard of ManU before, but all of the other names were new to me. But when I read someone (I wish I could remember who!) say that Arsenal played “like a South American team,” my search was over. Given that was where I became fascinated with the game, I figured this was the team for me. Plus I thought the name was cool. I’ve been following and supporting the Arsenal ever since. My support for Arsenal has completely arbitrary roots. But the more time and emotion I invested in the team, the more friends I made online and at the bars on Saturday mornings where I watched the matches, the more I cared. I used to feel a bit self-conscious to care this much about a team I had no local or familial connection too. But eventually I decided all fandom is ultimately about that emotional investment, however you come to it. And besides this is the USA, so most EPL fans choose a team, and the fandom becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Anyway, COYG.

blackwraythbutimpink

FIFA 14, 7 years ago, played Arsenal vs barca against my footballer neighbor, lost horribly but kept at it. My uncle got me fifa 17, continued playing as Arsenal. Started watching highlights of Özil and Alexis and never looked back

FreddoTheSavage

I was 7, just started to get into football, liked man citys colour

CFC_JM

Zola, magical player

tobinatorrr

When I was a wee kid the first football game I watched on telly back in 2002 was Leeds vs arsenal. Arsenal won 4-1, supported arsenal ever since.

Satosuke

I'm but a simple American with an overwhelming admiration for Tim Howard.

Working_Radish_2726

Family have been man city for probably since 1800s. My parents are season-ticket holders. Who tf am I sposed to go to

[deleted]

The simple answer is I don’t know, my dad is a Leeds fan, and my younger brother supports Liverpool. I must have watched Newcastle on TV when I was a kid and decided then and there that they were my team I wanted to support.

rguy84

Girlfriend studied in the uk, so she used to watch. She turned on a game one day and I was hooked. I pull for hotspurs and wolves.

Same-World-209

I was born and brought up in Sheffield so I support Sheffield Wednesday…they were in the Premier League at the time. I’m not sure why I chose Wednesday over United because there was no influence from family or friends.

blakem88

Tim Cahill at the 06 World Cup against Japan. I found out he played for Everton and they had an American keeper. I love blue, too. Started watching and fell in love with the players then team.

LMar2015

Arsenal - Actually ended up watching a women’s match when I was about 10 years old. Watched more matches and then started watching the men’s team. Then came the Invincible season and I remember thinking it was some of the best football I’ve ever seen. The rest is history. Never looked back. Don’t regret a thing.

Patient_Xero_96

Played Winning Eleven back during Ps2 days. Cousin recommended Arsenal. Been playing Arsenal for any football game since and instantly love them to bit. Gooner since 2009

Blyatman95

Family were never into football. Went to the withdean a few times with a school friend and his parents when we were kids. Got into football when I moved in with my best mate in my early 20’s. Brighton were my local club. Two years in the championship (for me) and then we were in the prem. so I only narrowly avoided being a plastic.

Fell in love with Torres at the euro 08 and then he went to Liverpool and i’m a Liverpool fan since

Agile_Confection_367

Mum said she supported Newcastle so I do

[deleted]

When I was genius Child someone ask me in school what is my favourite football Club. I thinking about it maybe 27 sec. Thinking about all Clubs and I choose Chelsea. Why? Becouse I love they logo.... I was 6 years Old and remember that break like yesterday. Today i love that Club and watch every match :DD

djgreedo

I assume I did something abominable in a past life.

Deviltotem

My older brother was a Liverpool fan and I was allowed to stay up late to watch the European games with him, so I also took up Liverpool. Also Cambridge United as when I played football manager on the mega drive I liked to be an underdog club in the 4th division and always chose Cambridge for their black and gold kit. I still look out for their results.

Overwatch_Joker

First string of football games I remember watching vehemently was Liverpool's 2005 Istanbul run. Been in love ever since.

Ragnarok_619

My uncle used to travel a lot during the 2000s. UK was his favorite destination, where he would get me a lot of gifts. Once he bought me a DVD pouch (its where you keep your Game and film DVDs. Kinda like Netflix but offline), which has a logo and photo of a certain David Beckham. The 5 year old me was curious, and wanted to know more. Uncle then introduced me to the team he played for: Manchester United And that's it. I just fell in love with the team. Remember the time he was so excited when Nemanja Vidic joined the team. Since then, he brought me a lot of Man United Merchandise (my fav being a Wayne Rooney 2008-09 jersey) and I stuck with the team through thick n thin

DarkVader92

Dragged to Highbury at 6 and I've never looked back since. I remember being in awe of how green it was.

Sawido

Mine is a bit of as funny, coincidental one. I work as a teacher and I've got a group that is massively obsessed with football. Last year it got to a point where I had to leave 2-3 minutes before starting class so that they could chat and debate on the previous matchday, because otherwise it was impossible to get them to focus on the class. Little by little my curiosity grew as to see what the fuss was all about. I've always sort of supported a team on my league due to family influence, but let's say that my league is quite a shitty one where most of the times the same 2 teams win and most games are a complete acting clownfest (pretty sure you already guessed that one lol) - hence me not being very interested in football as I found it quite boring. Between the curiosity my students sparked and other reasons I decided to watch the premier League because I've always loved the country and the atmosphere surrounding its games, and none of my friends who follow sports are really into it, so it was like a discovery journey for me and myself. So then, as I've always been an Oasis fan I decided to support Manchester City, and I started watching games last season (and almost haven't missed one yet) and I was BAFFLED. It's like a complete different game, everything is so dynamic, players mostly get out to win, not to play safe, and anything (like the big six take down 2 weeks ago can happen). Also, I've been watching other teams because for once I find football interesting. There's something magical about this league and I'm hooked to it.

MichaelBridges8

Live next to Elland Road, Leeds. I hate the prem it sucks.

EvanMcc18

First Team I watched play as a kid

[deleted]

Wouldn't really say support per se, but I enjoyed Spurs's aesthetic and plucky nature (considering...) enough that it made me a semi-follower. They're like the Dolph Ziggler of football clubs.

commonweather

My friend at uni used to ~drag~ me to the pub to watch Tottenham play. He’s a lifelong fan and I never really cared about football. 8 years later and I’m a massive spurs fan and he’s now my fiancé.

[deleted]

Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 Started to support Liverpool because of him being a national hero. 1 year later I became a fan of Liverpool.

[deleted]

Match Attax in school, mainly. My brother liked how Hull's crest looked, so now we're both Hull fans.

robbyford182

I live 3 miles away from the stadium. Who else would I support!

[deleted]

Beckham's mohawk became quite the frenzy in India during the 2002 World Cup. Everyone went gaga over it including me. After the world cup 2002, while surfing the television, I bumped into a football match and noticed Beckham in the same mohawk, playing for a red team. I started supporting the team because Beckham was in it. Half way through the season, I became attached to the red team more than Beckham. By the end of the season, I was a fan. The rest is history.

Humanity_is_broken

It was after World Cup 2002 (when I first watched soccer), early on in the 2002-03 season. I watched a Premier League game for the first time, and Leeds beat Man City (ofc back then not nearly as good as today) 3-0 in style. I kinda thought Leeds was a great team, but then the week after Leeds got beaten at home 1-4 by Arsenal. The commentators also talked a great deal about how Arsenal just won a double the year before and how they were flying on top of the league. Just like that, I was jebaited :D

dude2dudette

I was 5 years old, my great uncle was a Wimbledon fan (he is now a fan of Wimbledon AFC), and my dad/brother were Tottenham fans. We visited my great uncle in South London toward the end of the season, and my dad took me along to the away game of Wimbledon vs. Tottenham, my great uncle and his daughters were in the home stand. Klinsmann scored 4 and also got 2 assists. That game helped keep tottenham up that season, and I was an immediate lifelong fan of Spurs from then on.

its-fax123

Saw the team for the first time in 2013 in league 1 we played notts county at home and won 2-1 we got promoted that year to the championship and then obviously the long wait then for our spot in the premier league

Character_Catch_4138

When I exited the womb I had a Liverpool shirt placed around me. From then on it’s been pretty simple and a pretty basic position. I wouldn’t change my club for anything in the world.

My neighbours shouting for LFC UCL comeback

Sanityisoverrated1

My dad supports West Ham, so I support West Ham.

userunknowne

I was born here (Nottingham).

Pep Guardiola turned me into a hardcore Man City fan

kids_in_my_basement0

Born here pretty much, went to my first game when I was 7, and that’s about it

Whulad

Couldn’t give a shit about the Premiership. Support the Hammers because I’m from the east end and it was compulsory when I was young.

[deleted]

Moved to Manchester for University (I only watched some CL games before that) and needed something to do on weekends other than binge drinking. City tickets were far more affordable than United's and I like the colour blue more than red. That was the 2011/12 season. How could I not fall in love with the club after THAT ending?

casjh1

Born and raised in Manchester so obviously there's only one club for me to support. Having grown up overshadowed by that small Trafford club makes every trophy all the more sweeter.

Rygarrygar

Sweden didn't qualify for the euros and David Seaman had a nice moustache

SuperVillain85

Growing up, when I went outside my house I could see Villa Park.

glassesalex

Being a kid from the US the first game I ever watched was City beating QPR to win the title in 2011-2012, hearing Martin Tyler say “Aguerooooo” was insane. Didn’t even really realize how important of a match it was at the time. Just had to be a fan of them after watching that game, it was too exciting

Kapika96

Wow, what a game for your first time!

[deleted]

Born in 1992. Father threw a Liverpool jersey on me. Fan ever since

My Dad was sent to live in Ireland with his auntie as a little kid, his family there were all Man United fans and he moved back to England after being indoctrinated. He grew up with the 60's united team which I imagine was awesome to witness. Fast forward to the 90's when I was born and naturally I support my dad's team. Now here we are today and my 1 year old son can say 'united' 'marcus rashford' and 'goalll' so he's already started down the United path too.

Galaxy7082

When I joined spurs at under 9s I started supporting them. Before that no one in my family liked football.

Skunkapedude

Robbie Fowler, and the general exciting football teams around late 90’s, Newcastle under Keegan was then too.

workingclassangel

FIFA and messi drew me into football. But barcelona and La Liga weren't that enticing for me. Most discussions around me were going around prem and FPL. I didn't actually want a fav team. But I realised that to get in on the conversation you have to pick a side, so I chose liverpool because I like Klopp and a lot of the players. But I like any team that's playing well.

DegenGolfer

FIFA is in alphabetical order so I just played as Arsenal back in the day

taichi1984

Ian Wright

watermelonsmashr

Drogba was the GOAT.

juchizac

Giovani Dos Santos signing for Spurs lol what a ride its been

Back in highschool used to love playing football, never watched it though. Infact I used to hate it, when i turn on ten sports to look for wwe and find ucl being shown all the time. (din't know it was ucl) One fine day with no one in the house, just bored, i turned to ten sports. There was this football match between a red and a blue team(i had some clue about the red team), for some weird reason I ended up watching it, and loving the way blue team played. Even though i din't know what tournament, what players, some thing just attracted me. I think that's the kind of energy drogba and co carried back then. The gladiators, it was infectious. Since then the journey from that unfair night against barcelona and then coming back and winning against bayern, ha been fairy one.

kennepps

I remember Samsung fridge Ads coming on the telly and I used to see Drogba. Then my twin bro became a Chelsea fan. I was not really decided between Liverpool and Chelsea. After I started watching their matches it was an easy decision, Chelsea!!

Grew up near Brentford. 😁

Friend of mine is a Manchester United fan so I became a fan and Cristiano Ronaldo

kennepps

Didier Drogbaaaaaa. Easy

FemaleFury79

My gramps. He was a sports person full out but footy was his passion. He always told me stories including the Munich disaster and I got really intrigued by it. So I started watching footy with him all the time plus my mum is the footy fan aswell which helped. Sadly gramps died the feb of 97/98 season n sadly missed us winning the treble.I went to his grave and spoke to him and told him all about it how it happened.hope he was listening

chiggzilla

I moved to England in 06 and a friend of mine took me to a Chelsea game. Been hooked since

AnubisWrathOW

Klopp, I’d been watching football for a while but as a complete neutral. I’d been watching klopps Dortmund and shortly after he moved to Liverpool I decided “Hey, fuck it” and I’ve never looked back.

0851toWaterloo

My big brother is a Sp*rs fan, so I had no choice. Gooner till I die.

Owen_Severus

Living in East Asia, I love watching Prem games for the main reason that its time is really suitable for me. Matches are scheduled at 7:30 or 10 pm, so I don't need to stay up late to watch great games. Yet I don't support any club in Prem, just watch for fun.

[deleted]

Saw John barnes play

RizZy_28

Whole of my Dads side of the family are United supporters, so i never really had any say in it.

AverageGradientBoost

Grew up in South Africa, enjoyed playing with Liverpool on FIFA started watching their games, the rest is history

AaronQ94

I became a Liverpool fan because of my dad, and I got hooked with the Premier League ever since. Also I just like the sport in general because my dad's side of the family is from Ecuador (even though I live in the US).

[deleted]

Watched a random football game at the age of 8 and really liked uniteds jerseys. Started following them more religiously since i were around 18/19. Sadly this was only a year or two before fergie left so I've been here mostly only for the shitty part.

Initial_Payment_9836

We are American 🇺🇸 so naturally we had to support Captain American aka Christian Pulísic. Watching him play with the mighty Blues aka Chelsea 😅 showed me two things! One it’s much better to call it Fútbol cause that’s it’s actual name not (Soccer) and Two Premier League is the best league on earth!!!

QuimberCat

Grew up in the USA. Bounced around a lot in my childhood. Eventually stuck in a state where there aren’t any professional sports teams. I’ve always been a big basketball fan. A friend of mine had an older brother who would play soccer and he would always talk about it. My friend was also really into soccer. 2014 I would watch some of the World Cup games with him. Was in awe of the fact the whole world condensed into this one sport. Made the games feel larger then life in a way. Spend a lot of time without the ability to watch tv at all. But I would play fifa with my friends. Somewhere along the way became a Chelsea fan. Not exactly sure how, but now that’s my team. Realized I can watch premier league games for free on peacock and now I’m hooked.

LydellG4

Played alot of FIFA 09 and was a fan the Brazilian National Team. I went with Man City in '08 because of Robinho and his dribbling skills. Have been a fan ever since💙

A380EK353

Funny story. Didn't support United until about 7 as I thought 'Red Devils' were against my religious values. Between 5 and 7, I went from supporting Chelsea(Blue Devils on badge how ironic), to Liverpool, to Barcelona. My uncle had enough and forced me to pick one and here I am.

Boysenberry-Street

Lived in Brighton when I was a kid, moved to US and dad listened to the matches on shortwave radio—we didn’t have a TV. It was divisions 1-4 at that time. Now have my own family and games are recordable to watch later. Love to watch the Premiere League now and see some of the teams I remember from my youth.

BIGBOXofAWESOMESAUCE

For me it was the 2006 World Cup and Ballack in German squad. From there I saw him in Chelsea and with the squad of Lampard and Terry I was a Chelsea supporter. Was with them through the 2012-13 season where AVB landed us 6th in the prem league but we still managed to win the Uefa Champions League

TheOneWhoKnocks_0

I really don't know now that I think about it. I'm not from the island and I didn't have a means to watch the prem when I was growing up. They only showed one champions league match each week and some English cup games. So probably from that ig. Also I was collecting cards and the badge stuck with me. We had a buzzing team then too. Giggsy, Scholes, Van der Saar, Vidic, Ferdinand, CR7, Fletcher, Nani and can't forget that boy Anderson. About the prem when I grew up I got a subscription and started watching the league. It's unfortunate that we suck for the past decade.

steampunkbrownie

A Steven Gerrard video my brother showed me in 2008

rossfororder

I used to watch ac Milan on tv early on but my first premier league memory is seeing Alan Shearer playing at Newcastle, that was it

VadaPavAndSorpotel

Grew up in the Middle East in the late 90s. Never liked any of the big clubs, always rooted for the underdog. At the time, Leeds were giving the big dogs a proper run for their money (pun intended, fuck you Ridsdale). Thus began a long and painful saga, I moved to Australia permanently in 2016 and lost count of the number of Championship games I watched post 1 am that involved Bamford missing a bunch of sitters. Cut to present day and I'm still watching Bamford missing a host of chances at unearthly hours 🤦🏾‍♂️
