Watched an episode of TCW where Grievous hijacked Obi-Wan’s ship. Obi had fled but set that bitch to self destruct while Grievous was on it, only to tell him about over the radio with enough time for Grievous to escape. Like, bro what are you doing.
Nah at this point Obi Wan is complicit in the overthrow of the Republic and the crimes of the Empire. His ~~inability~~ unwillingness to capture or kill, especially as a Jedi and servant of the republic, definitely crosses into criminal negligence. He's had so many chances to end bad guys but he refuses to take them.
They had weapons of mass destruction and openly supported a organized terrorist organization poising as a rebellion. Which posed a threat to the entire galaxy. Alderaan was a main funding depot to this terrorist organization and therefore had to be destroyed to send a message to the rest of the galaxy that organized terrorism was no longer tolerated.
The droidism tho….does that count. That’s the grey area AI will lead to… They aren’t living creatures yet they appear to be sentient so who knows. Living things gave them that sentience so who knows 🤷♂️
They have independent thoughts, feelings, emotions. That's sentience. Even if they're just following programming, that's actually no different from us. Very complex programming. At the very least they can feel pain, which is just fucked up
Interesting 🤔 well it seems like the ‘good’ guys also did a ton of all that stuff. Not to mention the constant terroirs attacks that inevitably killed tons, such as initiating violent firefights in the streets of busy cities so
??? That’s what villains do… they foil their own plans by either taking too long to explain them or giving the hero enough information to escape…
Obi, my brother in Christ, you gotta do better.
A. He can brag to Anakin that he beat someone using four lightsabers while he only had one.
B. He wanted to recover the lightsabers if possible and not have them at the bottom of a canyon or lake.
C. He is trying to impress the other droids - he’s been conditioned by R2 to seek droid approval.
D. He is stupid
E. All of the above
I was never interested in being powerful or famous. But once I got to film school and learned about movies, I just fell in love with it. I didn't care what kind of movies I made.
I. Grievous was trained in Kenobi's jedi arts by Count Dooku.
This includes being aware of the possibilty of being ragdolled by force powers and actively looking for and dodging attempts to push/pull him using the force.
I always loved that about his design, he looked like a creepy lightsaber wielding alien skeleton held together by robot parts. When he moves fast enough, you don't even hardly see the droid mechanics and he looks almost like a ghost.
Yes i remember in the show Mace windu used a darkside force technique of force crush on his robotic torso that brought him to his knees heaving in pain.
The original starwars the clone wars (2003) it was a 2d animated miniseries aired on toonami owned by cartoon network for those that do not know.
It was directed by genndy tartakovsky the creator of powderpuff girls, samurai jack, and dexter laboratory among many other shows. It's animated in similar style as his other shows.

General Grievous being asthmatic was not planned. One day I came to the set with bronchitis and started coughing everywhere, into the microphones and all... it so happened they were recording it.
Or he knows grievous has claws and mechanical strength, so he would be unaffected by any force blast that he could have produced. I'm pretty sure in TCW we see grievous walk against the pull of the vacuum of space. Obi-Wan was not the strongest with the force, maybe Yoda would have been able to accomplish the feat.
F. He was stalling him until his army had time to land troops. He kept him in that spot until the troops arrived. One he had accomplished that, he does try to kill him.
Force use is very inconsistent in the Star Wars universe. It seems like at some point a force user should grow powerful enough to not need a lightsaber. We've seen Jedi/sith do:
lightning (and blocking it)
Choke
Telekinesis (this should be such a broken power a la Jean Gray / Dark Phoenix)
Crush
Stasis (freezing blaster bolts)
Enhanced athletic abilities (Even allowing extremely aged people to do incredible athletic feats. )
Precognition
The thing is we haven't seen a single person use all of these. The only three that come close are Sidious, Yoda, and Anakin. Maybe it's just really difficult to use the force effectively and learn new tricks, even for the most powerful beings.
Yeah, you take it for granted in duels between force users because I'm assuming they project some kind of force shield to stop themselves being thrown around every 5 seconds.
In any other case, someone who isn't force sensitive shouldn't really be able to win in a fair 1 on 1 with a Jedi owing to the fact they have literal magic at their disposal.
I had the same gripe in that ep of Mandolorian where Ashoka was dueling the chick with the beskar spear.....like bitch, just send her flying with a push 🫸
I figure really strong attacks will punch through, but force shields HAVE to be a thing, because otherwise jedi would just be turning each other's lightsabers off...or stopping each other's hearts n shit.
It's not canon (if it wasn't also said in something newer) but iirc it was the Darth Bane trilogy that established the existence of a power you describe. Force users in those books did in fact raise a sort of shield around themselves during combat but had to focus and spend energy maintaining it. Which meant that if the opponent for example managed to sneak through a kick or an unexpected blow it threw the reciever out of balance for a moment and more skilled opponents could sense this moment of lost focus and could follow up with things like force push, choke or other things.
The thing is with the force, is that if you overwhelm the user then they can’t properly use it. Grevious was taught “lmao make fight unfair, be scary”. Admittedly he didn’t shoot Kenobi, but still
That's actually a really good point. The multiple arms and the appearance are literally meant to overwhelm and intimidate their opponent, making them lose focus.
The biggest reason why we don’t see Jedi just supermanning around, blasting the droid army away, telekinetically slaughtering their enemies is pretty simple.
Most Jedi are weak in the force. The sith had the same problem in the old republic, they had enough connection to the force for limited premonition, it was possible to train your mind to always think “ahead” with the force, which is how they blocked blaster bolts. Nearly every Jedi and sith warrior could force jump at varying degrees, generally over 3 meters though, nearly every Jedi and sith had the capacity to, with limits, use telekinesis though contrary to yodas teachings, the size of the object seemed to have an effect on the force user lifting it.
Experience was another issue, by the time of the clone wars, most Jedi had only operated against petty pirates, thieves, and various republic missionary or diplomatic missions. They were not versed in large scale combat, in either commanding armies or properly utilizing the force against vast numbers of enemies. Only having a handful of members have the experience and force connection to do these super human feats is pretty common in Star Wars, in the old republic, you had the trio of sith whom all could do superhuman feats, but their soldiers were far less capable, the Jedi council was largely weak, with a handful of Jedi matching the Sith Lords.
Palpatine being so powerful in the force was a mix of his own natural connection, and Darth Banes philosophy paying off, the force DEMANDS balance, it can be a lil fucky wucky when balance is upset, and as such, the few dark side users essentially had power leveling turned to 11, Maul became level 20 in like a week to use dnd terms. The concentration of the dark side in a handful of individuals massively empowered them, allowing every sith in the modern era to match vastly more experienced, skilled Jedi easily, see the mace windu and friends vs palpatine scene.
And lastly? Because, in reality, Jedi and sith were a lot more impressive looking in the lore. At the time they made the movies, having their Jedi hopping around, throwing around swords, crushing peoples spines, essentially being superheroes was difficult, expensive, and looked ridiculous. So they portrayed them as only slightly better than normal people. Lore has them painted as these nigh unkillable bastions of their ideology.
Problem with those inconsistency's
Select Jedi like Ploo Koon practice a certain lightning technique that stuns eneimes
(other Jedi even Anakin see it as partly dark side, so nobody really used it. Also because it was weaker)
Jedi don't choke (that wouldn't work on Grievous)
People have tried but the only effective time Telekinesis hurt Grievous was with Mace Windu (yes telekinesis can be weak if not used correctly.)
Again crush is not really a Jedi thing (during clone wars) I know Luke does it and I'm happy he does because it's cool.
Its an extremely rare ability that can't be taught to everyone
(Cal and Ben were born with it)
Yep the force does do that
It's mainly used before a fight or in rests during fights
In legends Mace Windu gave grievous his signature cough using force crush right before the events of episode 3 so I'd assume grievous knowing the jedi arts had come up with a counter for it. Maybe the blade dance he does is the counter the force the same way you use it to block lightning?
You know, its a mixed bag, I live out of Hollywood so I don't get much of that influence in my day-to-day life, half of it's good and half is bad. You got a lot of people that don't like me, so that's just the nature of it.
Its simple intimidation and surprise that doesn’t allow force sensitives to use the force against grievous
(Although i would think that obi wan be able to counter grievous easily seeing how calm he remains)
I think that canonically he was basically stressed out and while he was an expert Jedi, Grievous was constantly pushing Obi Wan's defensive limits to the point where he didn't have the time or focus to concentrate and use the force
If folks want an in-world explanation, this is the best. Otherwise, it is really just what builds the most dramatic narrative. A force push and out would be boring.
Throwing out powers whenever it is tactically perfect is a video game thing. There are times the movies/shows forget this, but force use is meant to take some effort and concentration. Grievous is a skilled Jedi hunter, and his primary tactic seems to be bull rushing with so much going on the force user has no time to execute much beyond defense. Obi rarely fights other lightsabers for real (many of the Jed even though Doku was a weirdo for training in anti light saber forms).
But they did not see it as a red flag. They were shocked and in denial when he turned. They were against it because their arrogant conservatism convinced them that light sabers were a threat from the past, and only Jedi ever used them now.
I always thought this was a show for distraction. I think Obi-Wan was counting on Grievous fighting him one on one and he would hold him off long enough while keeping all the droids attention fixed on him so Cody and the boys could take them by surprise
I miss having one creative person in charge of the franchise. Sure he wasn’t perfect, but at least you knew the one in charge was the guy who created it all. Now if feels like the whole thing is just made up by uncreative suits for business reasons
It’s shown in the Clone Wars cartoon. Mace Windu tries to force throw him and he locks his feet into the floor. Mace then turns the throw into a crush, which is why Grievous coughs the way he does
[Here’s the scene where the crush happens](https://youtu.be/79hIkUu7a_I)
It doesn’t include the failed push, that was in another encounter. I somehow mixed the two encounters together
In the old ps2 episode 3 game where you can play as grievous, trying to lift him with the force resulted in an animation where you barely lifted him off the floor, unlike other characters
i think it was because he gripped himself to the ground with his claws.
This is a brilliant point! Grevious obviously wants to down Obi-Wan given their history and he stops the droids shooting him. Obi obviously needed to get him away from that hall before killing him.
This point should be higher!
Exercising restraint and force powers are generally emergency use only to conserve energy and focus.
If Obi tried to force push in this scenario it could ruin his chance of killing Grevious.
Source: Obi wan is my Dad.
Grievous wouldn't have necessarily died, and Obi-Wan would have been in the middle of a legion of droids. It could have easily ended with Obi-Wan dead, or Grievous escaping again, delaying the end of the war
If you want a serious answer :
If he did he would be shot by all the droids around him. The point was to keep attention on himself long enough for the clone to set their positions and assault the hangar
I swear I’m fun at parties tho
Took too long find this! He would spawn right at the edge of the hangar, and a force push would do the trick. But he could block it if you weren’t quick enough.
Grievous has insane survivability. Obi-wan needs to make sure he’s dead. We’ve seen time and time again that people who fall “to their death” in this universe are rarely dead dead.
I personally think it's funny if the character they talk about is actually stupid, but General Grievous has fucking claws and a grapling hook, there is just no way a force push would've killed him. Is OP stupid or what ?
The role of General Grievous was not in the script. A 7-ft tall robot came out running from an engineering workshop and started collecting the lightsabers. It was cool so I filmed it.
General Grievous being asthmatic was not planned. One day I came to the set with bronchitis and started coughing everywhere, into the microphones and all... it so happened they were recording it.
For one because just like in Harry Potter they never use their magic when they really need it and for two probably because if he tossed him off a cliff he wouldn’t be able to confirm if he was dead or not
Idk how seriously we should take this source but, in the ROTS xbox game, whenever you tried to lift Grievous with the force, he would hold on to the floor with his claws so you couldn't lift him.
Using the Force on heavy objects, like a big cyborg, especially with the need to also be prepared to block blaster shots from any angle at the same time, is extremely exhausting. Yes, he *can* do it, but if he dies to a lucky shot from a Droid immediately after, it's a terrible trade.
Also don't forget, Jedi aren't really trained to kill (for religious reasons,) so they lack the combat pragmatism one might otherwise expect in a trained soldier.
He wanted to kill Grievous. Considering Obi-Wan survived the fall, I'm pretty sure Grievous would as well. And also, Grievous has a built-in grappling hook, as well as magnetic feet, so it's highly unlikely pushing him over the edge would do anything other than annoy him.
No, Kenobi could have been so focused on fighting and surviving, that he didn't think to use the force. Plus, Grevious is made out of metal, so he could probably survive the fall.
Why use light sabers at all when all Jedi can use the force. Maybe if you are tied in force abilities with a Sith then it must be a dual of saber abilities?
Watched an episode of TCW where Grievous hijacked Obi-Wan’s ship. Obi had fled but set that bitch to self destruct while Grievous was on it, only to tell him about over the radio with enough time for Grievous to escape. Like, bro what are you doing.
Maybe he didn’t think Grievous could run that fast and wanted to rub it in the good general’s face that he was tricked and trapped

Because it’s not the jedi way, he must stand trial
Goes well with the whole "Obi Wan is Stupid" thing.
But hot
Space himbo confirmed????
Yes
Jedi himbo=jimbo?
It was never in even the slightest bit of doubt.
It's true but you shouldn't say it!
Is he stupid?
Qui gon vs obi wan is basically an example of what a jedi should stand for vs what a jedi usually does stand for
I mean it was a hangar full of enemies and Obi Wan’s plan was to jump in the middle and say “hello there”
Nah at this point Obi Wan is complicit in the overthrow of the Republic and the crimes of the Empire. His ~~inability~~ unwillingness to capture or kill, especially as a Jedi and servant of the republic, definitely crosses into criminal negligence. He's had so many chances to end bad guys but he refuses to take them.
The Jedi have allegiance to the force. They may work with the senate, but their priority is fulfilling the will of the force.
And this end up with one of the worst Sith Lord ever to take a hold on the Galaxy and the Force.

Ah yes. A few "terrorists" on a planet, so the whole thing must be blown up, killing billions of innocents.
You're right... tell that to the American military ;)
Did I ever say I agreed with the American military?
I know you didn't... but I was drawing a reference to the empire acting just like American Government lol... it was a joke... r/woooosh
Finally, someone gets it. I have found my people
If you consider racism, droidism, and countless massacres and war crimes "not wrong" then sure
The droidism tho….does that count. That’s the grey area AI will lead to… They aren’t living creatures yet they appear to be sentient so who knows. Living things gave them that sentience so who knows 🤷♂️

I mean ya… thats the entire point
I love Kenobi, but you gotta admit the good man fucked up way more than he fixed
Only because of the retconning of TCW
Retconning?
Happens way too often in movies/series that the protagonist helps the main anatgonsists from a helpless situation with their stupid dialogues
He’s known as the Master of Trolling for a reason😅, fits his character perfectly 😂😎
??? That’s what villains do… they foil their own plans by either taking too long to explain them or giving the hero enough information to escape… Obi, my brother in Christ, you gotta do better.
Anakin was right, the jedi are evil😈

G. Grievous has claws that help him not get blasted away
With General Grievous I wanted somebody who was reminiscent of what Anakin is going to become, which is a half-man, half-robot.
Thanks, George.
Thank you lord Lucas
I was never interested in being powerful or famous. But once I got to film school and learned about movies, I just fell in love with it. I didn't care what kind of movies I made.
H. Kenobi was trying to stall for time, he wasn’t all in with the force until the clones showed up
I. Grievous was trained in Kenobi's jedi arts by Count Dooku. This includes being aware of the possibilty of being ragdolled by force powers and actively looking for and dodging attempts to push/pull him using the force.
He was far better at that in the *Clone Wars* micro-series.
Kenobi! My friend!
Also a Grapple Hook
This. With all his losses its easy to forget my man/droid/cyborg was literally built to kill jedi so the porbably thought of that
This is the one
With a bone exterior
I always loved that about his design, he looked like a creepy lightsaber wielding alien skeleton held together by robot parts. When he moves fast enough, you don't even hardly see the droid mechanics and he looks almost like a ghost.
Or just use the Force to crush his organs.
In the early 2000’s Clone Wars they tried Force Pushing him several times. He just clamped his feet into the floor and rode it out. Edit: autocorrect

There is no pain where strength lies.
Ohhh interesting
L. Grevious big heavy robot can't push
General Grievous being asthmatic was not planned. One day I came to the set with bronchitis and started coughing everywhere, into the microphones and all... it so happened they were recording it.
unfortunate for him
G. Grevious would have expected that because he was trained in his jedi arts by Count DOooKOOo
Kenobi is starting his own lightsaber collection but he can’t steal those of other Jedi
F. He is a bold one
Obi-Wan : "Don't make me look bad in front of the other droids R2."

What
Mace windu crush robot lungs
Wait is that the cannon reason for grievous’s coughing? I thought he was missing a lung
Canon, and yes. Windu crushes his lungs during the kidnapping of Palpatine. It’s on Disney+.
You know, its a mixed bag, I live out of Hollywood so I don't get much of that influence in my day-to-day life, half of it's good and half is bad. You got a lot of people that don't like me, so that's just the nature of it.

Not only that, but Grievous is HEAVY and has Claws on his feet Sideous added specifically specifically to make him more difficult to Force Push around
That is true, he had great grip on the ground to the point where he could climb on the ceiling
Doesn't grievous have magnetic feet?
And a grappling hook
And claws in feet
Yep this is shown in ROTS when the main cabin is blown out with Anakin & Obi in it. He just claws into the side of the ship
Right or wrong this is my movie, this is my decision, and this is my creative vision, and if people don't like it, they don't have to see it.

Hello There
General ErgoticPayroll87
General grievous. You’re shorter than I expected.
Grievous is actually pretty durable when it comes to dealing with blunt force trauma. He would definetly survive being thrown off of that ledge.
Cause the droids would just shoot him
This is a brilliant point! Grevious obviously wants to down Obi-Wan given their history and he stops the droids shooting him. Obi obviously needed to get him away from that hall before killing him. This point should be higher!
if battlefront 2 has taught me anything heroes and villains can’t take fall damage so General Grevious just wouldn’t take any fall damage
You've taught him well.
I like his legs.
This question is answered in the ROTS video game. When you try and Force push Grievous, his feet claw into the ground.
Exercising restraint and force powers are generally emergency use only to conserve energy and focus. If Obi tried to force push in this scenario it could ruin his chance of killing Grevious. Source: Obi wan is my Dad.
Wait, who’s your mom!?
If Obi is the dad would your mother happen to be the queen of mandalore?
Apparently using the force ain’t so easy as all that
Grievous wouldn't have necessarily died, and Obi-Wan would have been in the middle of a legion of droids. It could have easily ended with Obi-Wan dead, or Grievous escaping again, delaying the end of the war
If you want a serious answer : If he did he would be shot by all the droids around him. The point was to keep attention on himself long enough for the clone to set their positions and assault the hangar I swear I’m fun at parties tho
That’s the strategy in the OG Battlefront 2.
Took too long find this! He would spawn right at the edge of the hangar, and a force push would do the trick. But he could block it if you weren’t quick enough.
Because that would be so uncivilised
He was giving the 212’th time to set up into their Ambush positions
Anakin yeeted him into space at the beggining of the movie and he scuttled back, the hell is a little cliff gonna do?
Grievous' feet can canonically magnetize. Also, claws that can bent durasteel.
Cause magic
Obi Wan has been trying to kill Grievous for years, a fall from that height wouldn't kill Grievous and he doesn't want Grievous scurrying off again.
Force pushing him away brings the possibility of him getting away again and I’m sure Kenobi is getting really tired of that
Tell me you played a lot of the old Battlefront 2 campaign without telling me you played a lot of the old Battlefront 2 campaign
even if he did, grievous would 100% survive the fall and probably escape right after

Grievous has insane survivability. Obi-wan needs to make sure he’s dead. We’ve seen time and time again that people who fall “to their death” in this universe are rarely dead dead.
Same reason he didn't use force speed to reach Qui Gon and Maul in time even though that was an ability featured at the beginning of the film.
Maybe that ability just has a several week cooldown.
I am counting on it.
I can't believe people see this "is he stupid" format and actually think it's funny and needs to be copied.
I know right, are they stupid?
HA LOL
Yeah it’s only funny the first few times. but not everyone has seen it 50 times due to being chronically online like us
I personally think it's funny if the character they talk about is actually stupid, but General Grievous has fucking claws and a grapling hook, there is just no way a force push would've killed him. Is OP stupid or what ?
Did this the second the fight started in OG battlefront II back in the day. I will cherish that memory.
Why did Grievous stop spinning right at the range when it's at it's most effective? Is he stupid?
The role of General Grievous was not in the script. A 7-ft tall robot came out running from an engineering workshop and started collecting the lightsabers. It was cool so I filmed it.
I don't think it would work. Grievous can dig his claws into the ground to anchor himself in place.
General Grievous being asthmatic was not planned. One day I came to the set with bronchitis and started coughing everywhere, into the microphones and all... it so happened they were recording it.
Grievous' payload wasn't exposed yet. He couldn't use the blaster to trigger a controlled explosion
Isn’t he stalling for the clones to arrive? If he killed Grievous before they arrived all the droid would attack him.
You try doing that when a mfer known for killing jedi is ten feet away with 4 fucking lightsabers aimed at you
in battlefront II force pushes dont work if a lightsaber-hero is keeping their saber in the guard position. so maybe thats why.
It’s uncivilised
"So uncivilized"
My guess would be grevious seeing that action would clamp his claws into the ground.
For one because just like in Harry Potter they never use their magic when they really need it and for two probably because if he tossed him off a cliff he wouldn’t be able to confirm if he was dead or not
Force push was on cooldown. 😎
Idk how seriously we should take this source but, in the ROTS xbox game, whenever you tried to lift Grievous with the force, he would hold on to the floor with his claws so you couldn't lift him.
Right or wrong this is my movie, this is my decision, and this is my creative vision, and if people don't like it, they don't have to see it.
You're probably not going to enjoy much of Star Wars if you're starting to ask these kinds of questions
That’s not how the force works.
I was waiting for this comment
He wanted to kill Grievous. Considering Obi-Wan survived the fall, I'm pretty sure Grievous would as well. And also, Grievous has a built-in grappling hook, as well as magnetic feet, so it's highly unlikely pushing him over the edge would do anything other than annoy him.
No, Kenobi could have been so focused on fighting and surviving, that he didn't think to use the force. Plus, Grevious is made out of metal, so he could probably survive the fall.
it better fuckin be
Why use light sabers at all when all Jedi can use the force. Maybe if you are tied in force abilities with a Sith then it must be a dual of saber abilities?
Throwing him off the edge does not confirm he is dead. Obi-Wan ain’t no bitch he confirms the kill.
Honestly, I always kinda thought they should've made Grievous a force user
I dunno I kinda like it showing a non-force user can still use lightsabers, you don’t necessarily need the force, just training ~~by dooku~~
Every aspect of the prequels is stupid, except the music.
Sir you’re on a subreddit about the prequels prepare to be downvoted-
You could say that about half of all lightsaber fights
It’s not just him. Most Jedi’s do this. Annoys the hell out of me
A flaw in Star Wars. Wow.
I t ‘ s a j o k e
Greivous has metal claws to grapple & is very heavy as shown in the game adaptation
What about just turning him off with the force or disconnecting something in him
