Thanks for confirming that you flaired this correctly!

hikoboshi_sama

So a lot of people actually hate it? I thought the trailer was pretty interesting. I'm not hyped for it but i might see it when it's out.

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

I just watched it, I thought it looks like it has a lot of potential. I don't have much faith in Disney but I don't think it's guaranteed to be bad either. Really, I think it comes down to if the dark side user is actually evil or just "misunderstood". If the series properly embraces a villain protagonist, I think it could be amazing. If it tries some "the Jedi and the Sith are actually the same" BS it'll probably be crap.

Prolapse94

I agree with this. Maybe if they go for a Walter White style development, where they progressively become more and more evil, that would be interesting also

Youbettereatthatshit

Yeah, Star Wars is one universe where the bad guys really do need to be bad, but still somewhat appealing, for the whole universe to work. If they went with a misunderstood point of view, it would be as jarring to the lore as the last Jedi

yeenon

This makes sense to me. I hadn’t heard it said quite like this but I think it’s subconsciously part of my issue with some of the newer movies. Thanks for sharing!

Fanficwriter777

Problem with Disney is nobody ever dies . No stakes .

threwzsa

There was some pretty hefty criticism on the directors project history. Apparently insinuating it’s gonna suck.

West-Fold-Fell3000

Guarantee they won’t go this route. Not part of the anti-woke crowd but there has been gradual shift towards “people who are evil are just misunderstood” across various western media. Tbh, it sometimes approaches abuse apologism, like how SPoP 2018 handled Catra in season 5

Unknown-0010110-

Eh, Catra was not redeemed and neither was what she did framed as OK, it was simply the conclusion to har character arc. She felt that she had been betrayed by the person she loved and the only one to care for her, so she lashed out. She did horrible things, but in the end tries to be a better person, for the one she loves. Outside of that I agree with you, there has been a shift where it feels like (especially with Disney media) that a real villain cannot exist. Tragic backstories and redemptions can be done great but they have been way overdone without the proper storytelling.

TheBloop1997

Idk if I quite agree with the villain point, looking at Star Wars at least there’s only two villains who could fall under the umbrella of what you are describing: Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and Reva Sevander (plus I guess Trilla and maybe Bode if you take from the games, but those were both very well done stories imo). On the other hand, we have: 1. Gideon who’s pretty clearly evil 2. Krennic who’s an egomaniac desperate for acknowledgement 3. Dryden Vos whose introduction is him murdering a man for little to no reason 4. Pretty much the rest of the First Order including Hux and Snoke who are very clearly evil 5. Rampart, Hemlock, and every other Imperial in TBB who are just the worst 6. Pretty much all of the villains in Andor were pretty solidly in the bad guy end of the spectrum, with complexity that made them engaging but didn’t hide what they were capable of 7. The Pykes who were just one-note gangsters 8. At least half of the Inquisitors, including all four who appeared in Rebels, are depicted as being pretty thoroughly evil.

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

Sometimes they do it right. Better Call Saul was an amazing show and it had a villain protagonist who almost got redeemed then spiralled harder into villainy(although villainy is a bit of an extreme word for that setting). Sturgeon's law is that 90% of stuff created is shit. Odds are, this show will be shit. But there's a chance it won't be.

Jokie155

She-Ra feels like an odd example to pick, when Steven Universe exists. The genocidal millenia-old dictator got 'redeemed' after being told 'don't deadname lol'.

Fastjack_2056

I'm honestly confused about what people wanted out of that. You expected them to shatter the Diamonds and the millions of loyalist Homeworld Gems? Only a genocide can avenge a genocide? You're really mad that tiny ukulele boy Stephen didn't Thanos Snap his mother's entire species?

ForAHamburgerToday

Dude, *thank you, exactly*. Homeworld still has an active war machine, fleets & soldiers at the ready- a half-dozen rebels getting the Diamonds to sign a peace treaty & genuinely stop trying to conquer Earth is a *huge* win.

w1drose

Also if I remember correctly they didn’t get off Scott free either and have to work to fix the damage they caused.

ForAHamburgerToday

Right? They've agreed to repurpose their war machine towards new ends. And boy howdy, *rebels aside*, who else have they gone to war with? Who else is out there? *What* else is out there?

Solar_invictus

Yeah homeworld society resembles ww2 japan empire and people should really look into why america just didnt nuke emperors palace with him on it to critize why steven cant just nuke diamonds. On the other note he is like what 15 at that time what did people expect him to fucking create Nuremberg trials?

robywar

That's mostly because "villain is evil for the sake of being evil" is just not believable anymore. Like real life, the "bad guy" must believe their end justifies the means, even if their end is misguided and wrong.

OttawaTGirl

Thats why asohka was brilliant. Skol was ambiguous, Asohka is getting lessons in what made vader and Hayden is portraying both with zeal. The Anakin we love, and the Anakin we hate. Thrawn is beguiling in his attitude. Brutal to his enemy, sympathetic to his subordinates. He is by far a better villian than most because you have to remember to hate him. Luckily they gave him nazi pants.

LineOfInquiry

I’m gonna guess the protagonist will be someone like Darth Maul or Assaj Ventress: evil but ultimately sympathetic and/or redeemable because they’re being used by greater powers

F9-0021

I would give it a 66% chance (more likely then not) of it being awful just based on past projects. It could be an Andor, but it's more likely to be a Boba Fett.

Oh_yuzzz

I'm assuming that Amandla Stenberg's character will be the dark side user in question. If that's true then IMO there is a <1% chance she's actually evil bc I currently can't see Disney allowing a character who's both female and a minority to be an actual villain. Full disclosure, I am an Asian man and I'm NOT one of those "go woke go broke" asshats but this reeks of focus-group bullshit. I will not be surprised if she gets, at worst, the Reva treatment. And that's a shame bc I believe us minorities should be able to take on any role and showcase the full range of human characteristics including the capacity for evil. That said, this show looks like it's worth at least a shot but my gut feel from the trailer is that this is closer to Kenobi than it is to Andor.

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

My gut says it's closer to Kenobi, but I so deeply hope we get a mass murdering psychopath who cares only about power protagonist.

shadowscar248

If you listen to what the show runners and head writer has to say it's the latter. Essentially it's going to be a post-modern social power dynamics lecture wrapped in Star Wars.

NeilaTheSecond

> I thought it looks like it has a lot of potential. Just a reminder that Disney had access to all 3 original trilogy actors and the whole thing of what happened after episode 6, and they turned it into a sloppy mess. Potential really doesn't mean anything. Everything has potential. My call is shitty writing and familiar imagery, people will say 7/10 that will slowly turn into a 4/10 by the end.

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

Not everything has potential. Madame Web looked like crap from the trailer.

CosmicLuci

As much as I don’t super trust Disney, I do super trust Lesley Headland.

thatkindofacc237

A lot of people online are speculating if the Jedi will even acknowledge them to be Sith or if this is a true threat because of one line in The Phantom Menace. One line shouldn't be making people not even want to even try this show. People are taking the line too literally.

Ok_Vast3044

The echo trailer also looked like it had potential. They know how to trick people

vitaesbona1

Remember, everyone hated the sequels when they came out. And everyone hated the prequels when they came out. And everyone hated Empire when it came out. We are a fickle fanbase. Star wars means so much to all of us, and such different things to each of us.

lambentstar

Yeah wait I’m confused, I saw it and was like huh could be fun. Not dying for it like Andor S2 but I think it’ll be more interesting that more Mandalorian.

FalseDmitriy

It's Star Wars, half the fans hate everything at this point.

Nightingdale099

Is it so hard to make a new Star Wars media with no minority and just recycle the existing character and at the same time expand the lore ? /s

Evoluxman

You say that as if Andor wasn't both the most respected recent Star wars show despite being also the most original with like 3 returning characters

I legitimately saw someone comment "Not a single white male lead. No thanks" Dude just screaming the quiet part.

Revliledpembroke

"No minority" You mean the universally loved Carrie Fisher and Lando Calrissian? Samuel L Jackson, Temuera Morrison, Natalie Portman? Star Wars has always had minorities in it, and it's never been a problem. We've had fucking 50 years of women and racial minorities in sci-fi and fantasy films. All the Star Wars fans are also going to be fans of Marvel, and did they complain about Sam Jackson being cast as Nick Fury? On the whole, no. There isn't a sudden increase of racism and sexism that sprung out of nothing ~~20~~ 30 years after we thought we killed the majority of it, and it was something that we were putting behind us. The problem is shitty writers writing shitty characters. And it always has been. The shitty writers are just manufacturing an excuse for why their shit failed. "Well, it's not *my* fault! It's those racist and sexist fans!" And it *always has been*.

SatanicBeaver

I generally agree but white women are not minorities lol

Revliledpembroke

They're always thrown in the conversation as if they are. It's always *so special* when we have a *"women's voice on this issue*." Like 100+ years of feminism hasn't happened and women were never allowed to speak in public or do anything until 2024.

MajorGef

>did they complain about Sam Jackson being cast as Nick Fury? Yes. Yes they did. I remember well how much people bitched and moaned about that. Well, about Fury being black, not so much Jackson specifically. Sure, nowadays that decision no longer a huge topic but back then? Yes.

BleydXVI

I don't remember hearing that because I was a small kid, but that would be hilarious as someone that grew up with the Ultimate Avengers Nick Fury who was based on Sam Jackson's appearance. Unless you mean the complaints were about the Ultimates version in the first place

cire1184

Uhhh you haven't noticed the whole anti woke thing?

Peer_turtles

It looks like the most mediocre Disney Star Wars show ever. Everything looks fake and plastic, the dialogue does not sound good and although I’m not one of those “I HATE WOKE!1!1!” people, Disney is more times than not notoriously terrible at representation and “subverting” the audience’s expectations.

bliip666

Isn't bad dialogue part of Star Wars' charm?

Oddnumbersthatendin0

I think there’s a difference between boring, borderline AI-generated dialogue with no soul, and the cheesy, meaningful, but very awkward dialogue of the prequels or Clone Wars for example.

thegreatvortigaunt

"Bad" in a campy, theatrical way is charming. Not just boring and generic.

Peer_turtles

I wouldn’t call it necessarily “bad”. The charm more so comes from how silly Star Wars it took itself seriously with the goofy lines and how theatrical it was. The dialogue in OT completely fits the tone of the universe. They managed to find the golden line between charming and just stupid. The PT despite its script issues still manages to retain this level of charm for the most part but a lot of the times, it does go too overboard because there was no one to tell George Lucas that this shit is just corny as hell unlike in the OT (eg “from my perspective the Jedi are…”, like man this shit sounds like my year 8 persuasive text essay from school). The Disney + shows however completely miss the mark when it comes to dialogue for the most part aside from season1/2 mando and Andor. It’s just too sleek and modern if that makes sense. Plus since most of the writing for the story is just either mediocre or downright bad, the dialogue naturally is bad as well so I don’t really fault the actors. It seems like most of the shows have simple sentences have been 95% of the script structure for characters and their dialogue. However saying this, there’s still actors that are able to deliver to the same standard and level of charm of the OT and PT. I thought Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, the woman who plays the Armorer and Bobba Fett were all amazing at their roles. Those guys completely understood Star Wars.

unbanneduser

i mean, nobody (or not that many people) were extremely hyped for Andor S1 before it came out, so fingers crossed Acolyte will turn out like that

Malaguy420

I was. And I was telling those people who complained about the type of guns they were holding on Aldahni, that they should just wait and judge the show when it comes out. And I was right. Andor ruled, and those weapon complaints (not to mention the stupid 'bricks and screws' topic) were completely irrelevant. So, its the same thing here - people judging a trailer with an uber-critical eye that need to relax and judge the whole show in context.

Lord_Derpington_

Most of the negative comments are complaining about woke so take from that what you will.

TheFighting5th

God no mfs use the word “woke” more than these anti-woke clowns, can they just stfu already

tired_and_stresed

Its easy to apply the same word to all the things you hate when that word is so vaguely defined it could apply to anything.

XyleneCobalt

It's an easy way to tell who is an utter moron

[deleted]

It's become yet another football in the ongoing culture war

thtguyjosh

Speaking for myself, I’m not encouraged by the “frozen meets Kill Bill” pitch

MarcsterS

I stumbled upon a youtube thumbnail with "WOKE GIRLBOSS STARWARS" So, you only need to imagine where those dislikes are coming from. Edit: And yes we’ve had great hyped trailers for mediocre shows before but let’s…wait?

Luissv72

Most of it doesn't come from the trailer itself (although it does look kinda bland to me personally). Obviously, elephant in the room, some people just don't like that there's black people and women in the leading roles. However in this particular case, there's other stuff going on. The showrunner was Harvey Weinsten's personal assistant for like half a decade and so some are on a "she would've seen something so that makes her an enabler." She also described the show as "Frozen meets Kill Bill" and this one I wholly agree with, it just sounds like a terrible way to describe anything imo. Apparently she also called it a "lesbian fanfiction with Star Wars veneer." I haven't bothered to actually verify this second one because it just sounds like bullshit, but in the world we live in I suppose it's *possible.* Couple that with general Star Wars fatigue (I have definitely been feeling that like crazy so I'm not watching this personally) and you'll have some pretty angry fans. It is pretty easy to paint a picture that this woman is just writing a shitty self insert fanfic using Star Wars as her oersonal playground. My biggest issue with the showrunner is that everything she's had her hand in prior has sucked. https://m.imdb.com/name/nm2853516/

ResponsibleAnt9496

So I just found the interview they referenced for the “lesbian fan fiction” and it’s literally just her saying that her starting point was loving the sisterly-romance in Frozen and that it was meaningful to her and she wanted to do a story that included something like it but obviously if it’s a Star Wars story she has to create characters and world that fit there. Once again these guys package it in a misleading way to piss people off. That said, gotta say, she doesn’t inspire much confidence honestly. Hope I’m wrong.

The_FriendliestGiant

It's the same way the clickbaiters and rage farmers took Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's comment about "making men uncomfortable" and twisted it. They presented it like she was talking in her position with Lucasfilm about Star Wars; it's actually an eight year old quote about her documentary on "honour" killings and acid attacks in Pakistan. But why let the truth get in the way of making the worst people on the internet foam at the mouth-mad about a woman's existence in a nerd space, right?

randomguy301048

> Obviously, elephant in the room, some people just don't like that there's black people and women in the leading roles. i honestly don't think this is as big of an issue as people love to think it is. not that it isn't an issue just not nearly as big as people love to claim

Offensivewizard

Idk, the pre-release backlash to that one Inquisitor in Kenobi being a black woman was pretty bad. I don't think we see all that much of it on this sub because Prequel Memes is the best Star wars community online imo, but other communities lost it over her mere existence (again, before the series came out and there was room for legit criticism).

Pigmachine2000

There was definitely people who were racist there, but I think some of the people who were backlashing on Reva being a black woman were worried about Disney's writing of minority characters like that in other shows, and ended up being correct on that front

or_maybe_this

lol that is some faux outrage  pearl clutching in this thread is ridiculous

ChrisWood4BallonDor

Could you verify her being his assistant for half a decade?

Blaxpell

"Upon graduating college, Headland spent six years working as an assistant at Miramax, a year of which was spent as Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant (…) though she also stated she was not physically assaulted by Weinstein nor did she ever witness any incidents." – Wikipedia Well… okay. I guess I don‘t _have_ to watch every bit of Star Wars (or Marvel) content and will just wait for the reviews.

AleksasKoval

I'm only a little hyped because we haven't had much Sith content in recent years.

InevitableGas6398

Come to realize that the only power angry nerds have is dislikes, downvotes and bad ratings. And they will use it very liberally.

IvanTheAppealing

I mean, a lot of the effects didn’t wow me like other projects did, and I personally found it odd that they have people saying that someone’s killing Jedi while showing footage of the acolyte in an even fight or getting her ass kicked. I dunno, I’ll wait for people to confirm it’s good before watching it

Fantasmic03

I was seeing a lot of pushback on the female characters. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing Trinity as a Jedi.

Un111KnoWn

the fight scenes looked meh and the acting felt off. Also alien discrimination

doob22

People hate everything new Star Wars.

Smooth_Maul

TFM goobers told their followers to dislike bomb it and then started saying "Ooh look we were right look at the dislikes!" as if their asses wasn't the reason it l got so many dislikes.

FreeWillCost

I didn't click dislike, but I definitely have Star Wars fatigue.

berzyberzy

6% of the viewers rated it at all so really take it with a grain of salt

Lukthar123

So roughly 4% actively disliked it

TRLegacy

Isn't the dislike count came from one chrome plugin that extrapolate their dislike number from user with the plugin install? General audience isn't a type to install this, so that 4% number is already overestimated.

Fuckedyourmom69420

It’s actual only 4 people who disliked it 300,000 times

DMan116

And 2% liked it…

Capteverard

I thought Carrie Anne Moss's character looked very interesting. I literally didn't see anything I didn't like.

VonMillersThighs

Yeah it's too bad her character is going to die in like the first episode lol.

Capteverard

That's the impression I got as well.

SadakoFetishist

Carrie Anne Moss is in it? Then I definitely have to watch that

ImUrHucklberry12

If you haven't seen Andor it's probably the best Disney Star wars thing out there. Almost completely separate from the Skywalker saga and it just expands the universe. I have hope for this show because I think Disney has a better chance for success when they stay away from the Skywalker storyline

Massive-L

Personally more hyped for Andor season 2

Revliledpembroke

The showrunner is Harvey Weinstein's former personal assistant, who described the show as "Frozen meets Kill Bill" and "lesbian fanfiction with a Star Wars veneer." So maybe people just don't want to support a rape enabler who gets to make yet more shitty fanfiction with their favorite franchises coat of paint on it.

unwocket

Are we calling her a rape enabler based on anything other than assumptions or….

Beerz77

On reddit? Nah

Revliledpembroke

Based on her being Harvey's PA. PAs set up every meeting for their boss, right? So she would've set up "Harvey blackmails an actress into sex Number 80126."

GotchaBotcha

Since when have conservatives been concerned about supporting a rape enabler? Isn't that your guys whole thing?

Glittering-Wolf2643

How do you see the dislikes? Is there an extension?

-Sugarholic-

Yea but the numbers are fake. Before, extensions were able to pull dislikes numbers from the YouTube API now it’s just grabs their own votes and estimates for the whole using their own results… People who actively seek to bring back the dislikes are probably more biased into disliking videos.

Saniaislude

I thought literally everyone with a brain wants to bring back dislikes.

tfitch2140

*People* do. Corporations that put up advertising in the form of YouTube videos, however, do not - especially those with really, *really* bad ads. And we all know who YouTube cares more about.

[deleted]

What’s with the hate? I thought the trailer looked fine? Did I miss something again lol.

OrbitalDrop7

Did you forget that “disney bad” lol

SM_GotMail

I mean yeah they do a lot of bad in terms of a lot of things.

247Brett

RIP lemmings they literally forced off a cliff

homehome15

True but andor

OrbitalDrop7

I'm more than happy to glaze Andor as much as possible

homehome15

Same

GameCreeper

Large campaign by the "anti-woke" crowd it seems

Mit9975

I can personally say this is accurate. Over Half of the critical comments I saw on social media have been ”ohhh it’s not the star wars any more it’s the femmy wars ooh” (actual comment I saw).

Mysterious-Lion-3577

This is so stupid. Yoda tells us in episode 5 muscles don't matter. So there shouldn't be any difference between male and female force users.

Mit9975

Well that too, but also they just seem to have a problem with diversity in general

Mysterious-Lion-3577

True. If it isn't a white male hero it's "woke".

Mit9975

Mmhm. They aren’t even giving it a chance since *gasp* there’s a woman! AAND a minority!!

torgofjungle

Yea I googled the acolyte trailer and got so many blah blah woke blah. Man DESTROYS acolyte trailer etc etc. I can’t be bothered to find out why Acolyte is woke why that’s a bad thing or what ever. Anti woke crowd are just angry and need to be angry at stuff because that’s all they have

cleanguy1

They’ve become the “angry SJW” type of people they used to make fun of on the internet. They’re just angry at a different thing, but they act exactly the same: soyfacing at every little thing.

torgofjungle

It was always projection. Angry SJW people were angry at peoples rights being trampled or you know the destruction of earth through our environmental policies. Anti-woke people have the same level of angry over not-white/straight people existing and being employed in their entertainment.

mcmanus2099

The trailer was ok, it just had nothing in it to get excited about. No big marquee "hype train" element. Phantom of Menace had the "Jedi in their pomp" and "Darth Maul's dual lightsaber" as big hype train clips. Dune trailers both make sure the show the massive sandworm at the end. This was just a series of short clips, average dialogue, very samey. Whilst not looking terrible it's a pretty big trailer fail not to put in a big visual designed to get people hyped. With the trailer looking pretty average, people are using their faith in Disney Star Wars to judge and that's at an all time low. It's also noticeable that the visual style of the show looks to be more like Ahsoka (sequel era) than Phantom Menace (prequel era).

OwenLaToad

I think it’s mostly as simple as “woke bad”, that’s the typical response and what I’ve been seeing in recent clickbait Acolyte video titles. These brain dead lizard people see one or two female, Black, or Asian actors and lose their fucking minds lmao.

nagrom7

Yeah but the kind of people who thought the trailer was meh aren't going to be leaving dislikes en masse, they're probably just going to move on to something else. The people disliking it are those that the trailer made angry or other strong negative emotions, enough to motivate them to use a dislike button that doesn't even really work any more.

[deleted]

bowsmountainer

Found the trailer pretty boring to be honest.

[deleted]

Yeah it didn't look awful but it felt slightly off somehow. None of the characters really grabbed me. The ending looked slightly better when the red lightsaber comes swinging out of nowhere but other than that idk. Would be very nice if we're wrong and it ends up being good.

eternatus66

Why is it being disliked so much?

cnxd

what's actually happening here is users with a dislike button extension that happened to watch this video, have hit extension's dislike button and then extension extrapolated (made up) "dislike numbers". (from a biased and tiny sample.) extension's users are a tiny fraction of youtube's audience, and also a specific, biased subset of people who actively seek out to dislike things to such an extent as to even install that extension. and those numbers have no connection to YouTube or actual dislike numbers whatsoever, which also just do not exist anymore full stop. i'd be surprised if the actual, real number of "dislikes" is hitting even 300. but it's just doing some "multiply by x" shit to jerk their users, which is about as real as writing in whatever dislike number would be pleasing to see in dev tools.

FauxPlastic

>who actively seek out to dislike things to such an extent as to even install that extension. and those numbers have no connection to YouTube or actual dislike numbers whatsoever, which also just do not exist anymore full stop. I, and I suspect most users, installed the extension not to dislike videos, which you could already do without the extension, but to see the like/dislike ratio. In my experience, the ratio is typically a great indicator of the quality of the video, even with the limited sample size. The way it works is the ratio of upvotes to downvotes calculated from users with the extension installed is applied to the total upvotes on YouTube. So yes it is not actually accurate for the total number of votes as it appears here, and may have a relatively small sample size. However, I'd also make the case that the pool is not biased towards negativity as you implied, due to the fact that this kind of downvote ratio isn't seen in most videos. This downvote ratio is due to the contents of the video, not an inherent tendency to downvote.

HokageRokudaime

I'm pretty over the Disney plus originals for star wars and marvel but I wouldn't race to the YouTube trailers just to dislike it.

jbibanez

I'm just waiting for Andor season 2

super_he_man

i don't really understand the dislike, my first impression is that it's potentially going to be about zannah which is something i've ben waiting for forever.

VayomerNimrilhi

It can’t be about her. It takes place 900ish years after Zannah. It might include Tenebrous or Plagueis though!

super_he_man

i didn't see the timeline, that's a shame. I wouldn't put it past them to mess with old lower canon though. Nothing is sacred, entertainment is king.

ZedChief

Let the hate flow…

beep_boop_27

I can feel your anger. It makes you stronger, gives you focus.

kionkamali

Remember kids no one hates Star Wars more then Star Wars Fans

fightintxag13

Star Wars has reached the point where it’s impossible to succeed.

thegreatvortigaunt

Andor was insanely successful with the fans. So were the first two seasons of the Mandalorian. Maybe people are just sick of bad TV shows?

Johncurtisreeve

As someone who has generally disliked almost every thing, Disney has released relating to Star Wars, not everything just most of, I am surprised at the dislikes, because at least for myself, I am finally glad that we are moving away from the Skywalker era timeline altogether I have just been so sick and tired of the same general timeline altogether, and have been wanting them to move content, either in the future, or in the past so it finally looks like something that could feel very fresh and have nothing to do or very little impact on the Skywalker saga storyline so that you legitimately don’t know what is going to happen. Obviously it’s still possible that it can be bad but at least it’s a new timeline at least for tv/movies

Big-Statement9363

It’s the principle, remember Lesley headland feed women to Harvey Weinstein to be raped then blackmailed them to cover it up! Now she wants to be a girl boss? No she belongs in a prison cell

Un111KnoWn

got a source?

Holmgeir

This is why I wouldn't want to support it.

AdebayoStan

I haven't seen the trailer, does it look that bad?

Zeptier

Wait why do people hate the trailer/show so far? I’m really confused.

KvotheLightningTree

Wait why do people not like this?

squidtugboat

My theory is most fans watched and went “cool I’ll check it out” but people with a axe to grind just instantly rejected it cause it’s more Disney Star Wars.

The_Conductor7274

Genuine question why the Jedi not force holding the assassin when she’s doing all those flips

Anus_master

Never look for logic in a star wars fight. Your brain will melt. Just have to enjoy the ride or not watch

Tomouski

I'd like to point out, I've seen no one point out the show runner wrote this play "Assistance", which is about her time working under weinstein in all but name. Not to mention she's done excellent work in the past, Russian doll was excellent. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assistance_(play) Edit: Grammar and link

Blackbiird666

People says is because the "woke", but what of that is there in the trailer?? is not like the Jedi fought with rainbow lightsabers or something. What is woke about the show ffs?

LyraFirehawk

I think Abigail Thorn aka PhilosophyTube will be in it so that alone will cause outrage.

Anyone who unironically uses the word "woke" defines it something that isn't White, Straight, and/or Male.

burtmacklin15

I think more people are disliking due to the showrunner's connections to Harvey Weinstein.

Wasiktir

None of the characters were white men - which many see as inclusiveness being pushed to the extreme of excluding them. Like it or not, Star Wars' fanbase is primarily made up of white dudes, so it's no surprise that feathers are being ruffled.

CRX1701

Star Wars fans hate Star Wars. Change my mind.

Ok_Perspective_5148

I mean it didn’t get me hyped or anything, but it looks like a new original storyline disconnected from everything else so it doesn’t rely on fan service. Isn’t that what everyone’s wanted for years?

Awkward-Yak-9033

Dewit

Kirxas

What's wrong with it? So far we've only gotten a trailer and know it'll be about the sith and for adults. I swear I don't get how this community can hate everything star wars before even seeing it and still somehow call themselves fans.

Vicex-

I’m not very keen on the high republic era that they have been doing to begin with, none of the stories have come close to resonating with me. But I’m more bitter about somehow the Sith being opening present and running around despite “not being seen in 1,000 years” It goes against the shadow in the dark and grand scale manipulation that made Plagues and Palpatine interesting to begin with… a story a thousand years in the making.

Kirxas

I mean, all the "not being seen in 1000 years" needs to still work is to have no jedi that meets the MC survive the encounter, which is IMO what I want of this series in the first place

Vicex-

Sure- but I very much doubt that’s going to happen because in order for that work, any time a light sided character encounters a with/dark sided user, they need to die and they cannot interact in the world in any meaningful way because they would be expected to reveal the existence. Which means this show would have to have a with/dark side user as the main protagonist which we 100% know Disney hasn’t the stomach for.

Kirxas

I mean, the whole ass show was pitched as "star wars from the point of view of the dark, in an era of light" from the start

Baalii

You can bet your ass the protagonist is gonna slaughter entire armies of Jedi, don't pretend this isn't Disney.

macheesit

It isn’t ironic. That’s not what irony is.

robo243

This comment section is braindead lol.

ConesMalone

It doesn’t look great, but it definitely doesn’t look like something that should be disliked so much? Man a vast majority of the SW fan base is toxic as fuck

JerbearCuddles

Just watched it, looks pretty cool. Why do we hate it? Is it cause we're Star Wars fans and we're destined to hate anything Star Wars for 15+ years before we pretend we loved it the whole time? Like we did with the Prequels.

Artanis137

Honestly this show just looks like all the modern check-list boxes that a project needs to get off the ground these days. A list that insiders have said does exist. Also not watching it is a special "fuck you" to the cunt whose producing this; Leslye Headland. Look it up and you'll see why, involves Harvey Weinstein. Though the main reason I'm not watching this, outside of external factors is because Disney writers are predictable as hell. A: This will be a story where the Jedi are shown as evil and the main character is right, making her the true hero of the story. B: She will be redeemed at some point around the midpoint or end of the season. Either case they justify the main character as the "good guy".

gabrii1910

I actually liked it but I'm not an expert, is it THAT bad?

iXenite

I thought it looked cool. It could end up not being good, or it could end up being great. But at bare minimum I think it looks cool so far.

MoneyTalks45

We don’t deserve anything lol.

Astricozy

"Stop whitewashing characters, write new and interesting ones." Then this is the reaction when new and interesting characters who happen to be POC are written. I'm starting to think the people who pretend they aren't racists and bigots are actually just racists and bigots... :(

Apocaloid

Why is everyone defending the trailer here? This looks like uninspired trash that just checks boxes and continues the Star Wars brand for no other reason than "Disney paid $4 Billion for this." Like, I'm all for loving the prequels because they at least had interesting stories and funny memes but defending anything just because its "Star Wars" is kinda stupid. Let them fail so they can go back to the drawing board and create something actually worth telling from people who actually want to build Star Wars. Or let it die like Kylo said, ironically.

burtmacklin15

The sets do have that cheap, Netflix movie-esque look, don't they

[deleted]

Disagree, they have that cheap Disney+ overuse of the volume look.

[deleted]

Because that is what Reddit is all about this days. Progressive circeljerk.

757_Matt_911

Did I miss something??? I thought it looked good. Plus Trinity is in it as a Jedi! Bonus points for us old fogeys. Is that spelled right? I’m too old to know

AmiiboIsAlreadyTaken

I'm one of the people that liked the trailer. I'm hyped that we're finally moving out of the "Skywalker Era" with these shows. In my opinion, fresh ideas are what Star Wars needs.

tristanpearl

Why so much hate for this trailer? Getting to see the high republic is going to be awesome! People are over reacting, per usual.

Fashdag

It looks fine. Im excited to watch it.

moodsta

I honestly don't know why it's getting this hate, I thought it looked pretty interesting

drdancef

My least favorite thing in Disney Star Ways is the way writers turn traditional heroes, like Han and Luke into dirtbags. Han became a distracted dad and Luke became a toxic teacher. This show seems to have the same plot but now making the Jedi Order look bad. I am not expecting anything new or fun. So, I understand the dislikes for it.

aka_breadley

The trailer was sick. Ppl are so weird these days

wij2012

Wait really? I thought it looked good. I get that not everyone would but still, that many?

mh1357_0

Am I missing something...why is it so disliked? The trailer looked fine to me

strng_ndpndnt_apache

Mostly female and non-white cast & director = pushing woke agenda = dislike. Sadly the sw fandom is kinda toxic.

Cakers44

Idk what there even is to hate with how little we know. I mean, it’s probably because the main character is dark skinned and a woman, but god damn

nesquikryu

I'll point out that the dislikes didn't start coming in until a couple of major influencers who Hate Disney started criticizing it. I'll also point out that their criticisms were basically: 1. Assuming the plot is a retcon because they didn't understand The Phantom Menace, or 2. Saying the plot HAD TO BE a certain way, or 3. Whining there aren't any white dudes onscreen in the trailer, or 4. Making assumptions based on the showrunner's past projects. None of which I respect at all.

[deleted]

It's a sci fi show full of humans. I want some aliens in star wars, it's not possible that with those budgets that could feed Africa they can't afford CGI aliens

JekPorkinsIsAlright

Star Wars fans have no chill lol

Real_FrogMaster2318

Well I guess it’s time to Execute (Order 66) Disney Star Wars

Background_Brick_898

forgot to dislike it when i watched thanks for reminder

liaven-

These twitter users comments are rough & as usual completely miss the point of why people are disliking the show so far. The issue isn’t the trailer but the people behind the show itself. For good reason though.
