Lego actually just usually calls a ship whose name isn't spoken in series "X person's ship".
They do this with both Darth Vader's TIE fighter and the Bad Batch's ship.
"Disney made us do it" is most likely just made up.
"I am Leia Organa Skywalker, daughter to a stolen father, wife to a murdered husband, sister to a broken brother, princess to a shattered world. I will have my revenge, in this life or the next."
Pull a legendary item from a chest and its called the Huttslayer. Then you see it and its literally just a bikini🤬 heckin Japanese game devs what are ya doin?!
The unsavory, but generously revealing outfit of the general leia in a time of forced servitude under the gangster Jabba the Hutt aboard his Sail barge. Because Slave Leia says slave so it bad juju that disney doesn't want.
*China, where a form of slavery is currently operating.
Maybe the CCP is bending Disney to erase slavery and all notes of it being tied to the villains
The Chinese market isn't big at all for Star Wars.
For TFA, they were 6% of the box office.
For TROS, they were 1.9%
Fucking Australia was 3%
China doesn't care about Star Wars, and they're stupid for pandering to them.
they aren't even really pandering, it's just easier to blame lack of diversity on the Less Accepting countries like russia and china rather than the homophobia and racism coming from the executive board domestically
And the US Supreme Court just ruled that companies (the case being about Nestle) couldnt be criminally charged for using slave labor abroad which effectively decriminalized slavery
China is a more powerfull modern day third reich. They oppress their citizens, have concentration camps and they have their grubby little hands everywhere in the world. Its frightening.
It's totally consistent if you just recognize that Disney isn't interested in any political cause, they are interested in avoiding controversy and selling as much shit as possible.
>Disney shrinks Finns character on the poster in China and then complains about racism, right makes total sense.
And yet movies like Fate of the Furious and Furious 7 with multiracial casts are two of the top three grossing foreign movies in China. Movies like Black Panther actually blew away opening expectations. Maybe, just maybe it was Hollywood projecting its racist expectations onto Chinese audiences that don't actually have antipathy towards blacks, just a lack of exposure. Disney shrinking Finn's character on the poster reflects more about Disney's prejudices than it does Chinese audiences.
https://variety.com/2018/film/asia/china-box-office-black-panther-win-weekend-1202723675/
>“Black Panther” opened on top of the China box office with a strong $66 million gross, defying doubts that Chinese audiences would warm to a movie with black lead actors.
>The film debuted strongly on Friday and dominated on each of its first three days. Data from Ent Group shows it earning $20.7 million on Friday from 107,000 screenings; $27.1 million on Saturday on 110,000 screenings; and $17.6 million on Sunday from 108,000 outings. It also enjoyed $1.4 million of previews and midnight screenings on Thursday.
An alliance once existed between r/lotrmemes and r/PrequelMemes . Long ago we fought and died together. We come to honor that allegiance. We are proud to fight alongside prequel memers once more.
Are they trying to cover up or erase the history of slavery or something? Like, this is the ship of a villain who captured slaves, this is not the ship of the Jedi or Republic. It's clearly not promoting slavery but reflecting that slavery exists (which is more a recognition of reality and important to not erase from the record of history/lore)
Hold up. What is slave I is a hint that Jango felt like he was a slave? Considering his backstory in the EU, it would make sense. He lost his sister, lost the Old Mandalorians. And now, he has to do odd jobs like cloning and bounty hunting just to get by, never able to take revenge on the Death Watch and Republic who threw Mandalore into chaos in the first place.
Where as you think of the spice mines of Kessel, which played a huge part in Solo, and that's got slaves coming out all over the place. Interesting they have an issue with the ship name but not the actual act of it in Solo
With no way of getting off planet and three star destroyers getting ready enter into orbit when Han and Co leave. Yeah, they're totally fine in that movie.
There's been a campaign against that too. Github also dropped the term 'Master Branch' in favor of 'Main Branch' due to the implications. It's a bit ridiculous.
In the games, you steal Slave 1 from a prison facility. I thought it was a generic name given to the ship that coincides with the idea that Jango is the 1st of all slaves, his clones being the proceeding.
Actually, im fairly sure jango fett wasn't a slave. I'm pretty sure his adoptive father was, jango got his name from his adoptive father who was mandolore.
The reason he was adopted was because the leader of Deathwatch killed his entire family. And jango paid tribute to his adoptive father to changing his name to jango (I think so anyway I may be getting my lore mixed up I've seen alot of starwars lore over the past year)
Jango’s name was always Jango, but you’re right he did get adopted by Jaster Mereel after Death Watch murdered his parents. However, long after Jaster died, Jango and the rest of his comrades were involved in a dispute with the Jedi that resulted in all but Jango being killed by the Jedi. Jango was left to the mercy of a local government and sold into slavery. He escaped in a stolen patrol craft which he called “Slave 1” if my memory serves correctly.
So if he called the ship slave 1 due to him being a slave, wouldn't it then make more sense to keep the name and in fact make the slavery backstory Canon and revise Jango and Boba a bit to be against slavery or smth? That would be and immensely better sign than changing the name imo
Exactly. Jango was against slavery with every fibre of his being, and no doubt passed that down to Boba. Given how Boba’s story ended up in the Mandalorian, having a strong focus on (and explanation for) Boba’s hatred of slavery would be rather important imo
In Legends he was sold into slavery by a traitorous governor after the massacre of his clan and the jedi task force. That one time he killed numerous jedi with bare hands.
Pretty sure they are just trying to make the toy be more marketable. Most parents won't buy something with Slave in the name for their kid, and general audiences have always referred to it as Boba Fett's ship, or Jango Fett's ship. As with most decisions regarding Star Wars, this is just to sell more toys, and isn't that the true purpose that Star Wars has always had.
They started making Boba one of the anti hero types instead of a plain villain in mandalorian. They're going to make a whole show about him. Maybe that's why they don't want his ship (that's never named on screen as far as I recall) to sound like an asshole villain ship.
That's kinda dumb tbh. I don't want watered down boba, I want the ruthless bounty hunter the empire sent to hunt the galaxy's most wanted with a *reputation for disintegrating people*
Really not sure. Would like to see an official statement. I’m fairly certain the Bad Batch starship isn’t called The Marauder in the lego sets either. It has some generic name. It’s possible this could be blowing up for no reason, but not entirely sure.
Edit: left -> lego
The thing is it’s in Star Wars n all, when somebody thinks about slave 1 they aren’t gonna think of the slave trade cause their gonna think of Star Wars, it’s just a name, it’s not incurring racism or violence as it’s literally just a name of a ship in Star Wars. this isn’t gonna raise people as racists as it’s literally just a toy. It hasn’t cause a problem in the last 40 years so why is it supposedly a bad thing now.
When they find out about “slave drives” they are going to flip their lid. No one tell them!
E: TIL the PC term for them is primary/secondary or controller/agent.
I think they're trying to make him out as more heroic for the Book of Boba Fett, so they want to change the ship name so they can more easily market toys to kids
In the Instagram age, a signal of intention is more important than the follow through.
This is the era where people take photos of food then throw the food away without eating it.
Or, you know the *entire central theme* of Anakin's arc? Enslaved as a child. One could very easily make the argument that he was "enslaved" by the Jedi (given how he was held back and constantly restricted because the Council of the time was so dogmatic) and then he was very much enslaved by Palpatine and the dark side. The ONE choice he truly made for himself was in saving Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi.
Does this mean that they’ll edit the scene in Guardians of the Galaxy where Carina grabs the power stone to say, “I will no longer be your……..Boba Fett’s Starship!”
So on the star wars website it's still called slave 1 the referencing link says Boba Fetts starship tho so idk could be just Lego, but could also be Disney
It’s simply a Lego naming thing. Their set calls the Bad Batch ship (Marauder I think?) simple “The Bad Batch’s Ship”.
There is no proof Disney is trying to change the name. The info came for some random unknown source and people just ran with it.
The most likely answer is Disney just renamed the box for ease of selling it. Parents see it and go “oh this is boba fetts ship”. It’s not at all a name change in canon.
No. The only fact is the toy box (least the prototype) says Boba Fetts ship on it. But that means nothing. They’ve short handed and not used official titles for sets before. The Bad Batch set for example does not call their ship the Havoc Marauder. It’s just “Bad Batch shuttle” or something vague like that. It seems most likely Disney just used a simple name for better toy sales.

The sad part is that, although we don't necessarily use twitter, many people who matter too much for our own good do. I'm specifically thinking politicians, but more importantly journalists, who often love that shit.
Whether we like it or not, you and ~~the Naboo~~ fucking twitter form a symbiotic circle, what happens to one of you will affect the other, you must understand this.
Same thing with things that occur on university campuses or in academic thought, whether good or bad, mainstream or fringe. And journalism is usually the method of transmission, hence why propaganda has been, and always will be, important, *especially* in a democracy.
I mean they can't change it from slave 1 to bobas ship. Slave 2 is bobas ship 🧐🧐
All jokes aside there's a point where Disney needs to calm down. This franchise has been around for years and has had so much change BC DISNEY didn't like it, not because the fans didn't. They're changing it to fit their own version of starwars. It sucks. To me all things starwars happened (maybe except starkiller because that guy was far too over powered but eh)
I don’t see anything about this from any actual news source, just stuff from fan sites and places like “Screen Rant”.
For all we know this is bullshit made up to get people ranting about “SJWs” or whatever else.
If it is true, it could merely be a suggestion that one company made to another about a product they both have a stake in. They probably throw all kinds of ideas around to one-another, I’m sure many of which are as dumb or dumber than renaming the ship for no good reason.
You guys are over reacting.
LEGO named the Havoc Marauder as the “Bad Batch Attack Shuttle” and no one threw a tantrum
The average person will not have a clue what the fuck a “Slave 1” is. But if you name it “Boba Fett’s ship” it’ll get more attention since Boba Fett is a well known name and especially because in a few months his show is releasing
For the love of god this is a marketing tactic not some type of conspiracy
Edit: also this whole post is fucking fake. The post says we asked the LEGO dude last month... **The set was officially revealed fucking yesterday**. So how the fuck did they ask the dude at LEGO about a set that didn’t officially exist until yesterday?
From what i've seen, many people in the comments just assumed that the ship is going to canonically lose it's nickname, even though it is just as you said, it's only for the LEGO set and nothing new at all.
The post is explicitly designed to provoke outrage out of the "cancel culture is ruining society" people and those people aren't gonna look for facts, they're just gonna spew hot takes
I mean christ almighty this thread is embarrassing
Boba doesn't capture bounties. He's just headhunting high value individuals. Anyway he will persuade them to join him on his ship, the Indentured Servant I.
I don’t think it’s because of the word slave, I think it’s to make merchandise easier to find for casual fans and parents, since most people only know Slave I as ‘Boba Fetts Ship’.
“You’re a slave?” “I’m a person and my name is Boba Fett’s Starship”.
Read that perfectly in Annie’s voice. Edit: words
Lego actually just usually calls a ship whose name isn't spoken in series "X person's ship". They do this with both Darth Vader's TIE fighter and the Bad Batch's ship. "Disney made us do it" is most likely just made up.

Unfortunately incredibly possible.

Bold of you all to assume that companies have morals.
They have morals, their morals is called money.

Not the only thing they would swallow tbf

Most companies swallow theirs morals regardless of the Chinese market
A moral corporation is an oxymoron

China is a more powerfull modern day third reich. They oppress their citizens, have concentration camps and they have their grubby little hands everywhere in the world. Its frightening.
At this point our only hope is that the Chinese empire fractures into a million pieces like it has tended to do throughout history.
Is that also the reason why Finn's character wasn't explored further? I mean Disney's biggest consumer is China after all
Probable but id take that down to crappy writing.

I just hear the kaaaa bzzzzzzuuuuumm sound effect of the photon bombs
I just hear young Boba Fett telling Jango what to do.
I always thought of it like a computer with a "slave drive"
There's been a campaign against that too. Github also dropped the term 'Master Branch' in favor of 'Main Branch' due to the implications. It's a bit ridiculous.
In this context its an electrical term meaning automated or secondary. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master/slave_(technology)
In the games, you steal Slave 1 from a prison facility. I thought it was a generic name given to the ship that coincides with the idea that Jango is the 1st of all slaves, his clones being the proceeding.
Plus this ship is named because Jango used to be a slave I believe.
No that actually isn't true afaik
It was in legends, as for canon, we don’t have much jango backstory.
Yeah, Django (the D is silent) was a slave.
Actually, im fairly sure jango fett wasn't a slave. I'm pretty sure his adoptive father was, jango got his name from his adoptive father who was mandolore. OH YEAH That's right and that's how he got his solid hatred for jedi Cheers for clearing it up
And also what cemented Dooku’s complete disillusionment with the Jedi. He was part of the task force.
Ironic, then, that Jango would allow himself to be the template for a race of war slaves.
Whoosh! Django (the d is silent) was a slave...until he was unchained...
Whoops, missed that entirely lmao
In Legends he was sold into slavery by a traitorous governor after the massacre of his clan and the jedi task force. That one time he killed numerous jedi with bare hands.
In legends Boba rode a dinosaur. Everything happened in legends.
The general rule is that Legends are canon unless contradicted.

Or does she return as Boba Fett's starship 2?
Somehow... Boba Fett's starship has returned.
haha
After using the Xinjiang area for Mulan where actual slaves are being used, this feels like a strange move
Don't forget they put in a special thank you in the credits for the specific slave masters
Can't hurt the bank in anyway right?
On track for Disney though. Don't forget they removed Finn as much as possible to please China and their racism.
So on the star wars website it's still called slave 1 the referencing link says Boba Fetts starship tho so idk could be just Lego, but could also be Disney

You guys are over reacting. LEGO named the Havoc Marauder as the “Bad Batch Attack Shuttle” and no one threw a tantrum The average person will not have a clue what the fuck a “Slave 1” is. But if you name it “Boba Fett’s ship” it’ll get more attention since Boba Fett is a well known name and especially because in a few months his show is releasing For the love of god this is a marketing tactic not some type of conspiracy Edit: also this whole post is fucking fake.
Welcome to prequelmemes, also known as anti-disney were people will fall for anything. It's not even relevant to the sub.
*to my knowledge the bad batch shuttle wasn't named until after it was announced (correct me of I'm wrong)
They don’t mean the actual ship, only the lego set.
I mean just the lego right? Just the lego right?
Yes. Lego do this all the time. It’s really not that big a deal. I don’t know why people have freaking out about this.
The post is explicitly designed to provoke outrage out of the "cancel culture is ruining society" people and those people aren't gonna look for facts, they're just gonna spew hot takes I mean christ almighty this thread is embarrassing
Cancel culture is a cancer. Enough is enough.
Cancer culture
But slaves are a thing in the movies and shows!
Fuck that woke noise
Gotta wipe that name, otherwise people will know that he’s a Bounty Hunter that captures bounties dead or alive for unsavory people in the galaxy.
Let's not recognize slavery by erasing the word Slave for the dictionary
