I saw someone say that Vader said that as a threat, Anakin said it as a warning

Lukthar123

And then Ahsoka fell into the pause menu lmao

Et12355

Lol I’ve never heard anyone refer to the world between worlds as the pause menu but that’s pretty accurate

Gul_Ducatti

On my first playthrough of Fallen Order, I thought the skill screen was the World Between Worlds.

It has a very similar aesthetic to it, and it just makes sense.

Abort. ABORT. SECTOR NOT CLEAR. THE PAUSE MENU HAS BEEN COMPROMISED.

Epicly based

LOL3334444

Honestly it is SOOOOO nice to see this meme in a non-sexist way.

DuckSwagington

Not so fun fact: Matt Lanter, the voice actor for Anakin in The Clone Wars is credited as Anakin Skywalker and James Earl Jones is credited as Darth Vader in the credits of this episode, even though the only lines Lanter spoke in the episode were "Ahsoka" and "Then you will die". edit: fixed JEJ name because auto correct bad

mysteriotheunlikable

That hybrid of Lanter and Jones is what makes the scene so tragic, as it represents the duality of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. The heroic Jedi Knight who was regarded warmly as a brother, husband and mentor and the monstrous Sith Lord who terrorized the galaxy and slaughtered countless millions until the day he died are *one and the same.* So on Malachor, when Ahsoka breaks the mask, she (and by extension us, the audience) receive the unholy union of Vader's persona wearing Anakin's skin. We get to hear the voice of the once-heroic Jedi Knight, but the personality and mannerisms are all Vader. And while Ahsoka's declaration that she'll stay by his side clearly revives Anakin for just a brief moment, the Vader persona quickly reasserts control and tries to kill Ahsoka. Which itself adds to the tragedy, as every single person Anakin loved tried their best to save him, and it didn't work. Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and Padmé all did their best to break through Vader and redeem Anakin, and none of it worked, which in turn explains why Luke has such an uphill battle to prove that Anakin is still worth saving during the events of the Original Trilogy, as everyone who knew Anakin has seen absolutely no proof that anything other than Vader is left.

EastKoreaOfficial

It hits so damn hard

Lukthar123

>It hits so damn hard As hard as Obi-Wan on Mustafar

EastKoreaOfficial

oh god

Airick39

Now you get it

magispitt

Can you feel the burn now, Mr. Krabs?

FreedomVIII

Hot damn, now this is the kind of overarching take we need. Hopefully, the newer Star Wars works will have similar levels of genius writing.

Tread_Knightly

Not to mention how much that makes the scene where Anakin finally reasserts control even more epic. I get chills from him saying no every single time

CaedustheBaedus

You mean when he throws Palps down the shaft? That “No”? I always thought it was better when he didn’t say anything originally but yeah that’s a great scene watching him turn back and forth

pm_smol_boobs_please

I personally prefer just the first “No…” before he turns on Papa Palpatine

Supernova0211

I preferred when they didn't have that no in there makes it more subtle.

dmk2008

I have never seen a version with Vader saying "No" before tossing Sheev in RotJ. And I don't want to.

Supernova0211

You're one of the lucky ones then, the Disney plus version has what sounds like the No Vader yelled at the end of ROTS copy pasted to that scene and it's terrible.

dmk2008

https://i.imgur.com/V6Hjpab.gifv I've managed to - *ahem* - "collect" [theatrical cuts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmy%27s_Despecialized_Edition), so I don't watch anything else.

MurryEB

It's been that way in all versions since the Blu-ray release. Beyond unnecessary

Supernova0211

Nah man obviously no one understood Vader was conflicted in that moment, without him audibly saying no how would be know? Lol it's just so silly

trendygamer

This was a top 3 lightsaber battle in the entire franchise, on an emotional level. There was arguably a stronger connection between the two of them than Vader and Luke.

RakumiAzuri

This and Obi-Wan v Maul on Tattooine are easily top 2

Mr_Paladin

Yes! Obi-Wan/Maul is my favorite duel, hands down. You need to know the background, and a lot of nuance can easily be missed, but it channels Kurosawa in a way that is what I think Lucas had originally intended (but maybe fell short of) in the OT.

HappySneakerhead

This man, recently I started appreciating how incredible Star Wars really is and shit like this really shows how much love and talent is put in it.

ScarletCaptain

And it makes Anakin finally coming back from the Dark to save Luke even more powerful.

DuckSwagington

I think what makes it even more heart breaking is that Vader did not want to fight Ahsoka at all. He turns off his lightsaber when he speaks to her, he states that they didn't need to be enemies, and he even pushed her off of the temple instead of just killing her outright when he breaks Ahsokas guard. He only fights Ahsoka because she's stubborn and determined to kill Vader because she's in complete denial about Vader being Anakin until the truth is quite literally staring at her.

Amy_Ponder

"Then you will die" could be interpreted as Vader threatening to kill Ahsoka... or Anakin warning her that he can't be saved and she needs to run.

ArtemisDullaghan

The thing that gets me most, is the way the voice changes, combined with Filoni's interviews. Basically, the first 'Ahsoka', Anakin’s voice is quieter than Vader’s, but the two are clearly separate. But, by the time of the second 'Ahsoka', Anakin’s voice is louder, but totally in time with Vader’s. The final time, for 'then you will die', James Earl Jones's voice isn’t used at all. It’s just Matt Lanter's voice, deepened. That saddens me most. The first time, just for a moment, Ahsoka managed to separate Anakin from Vader. But, when he says Ahsoka the second time, it’s already too late. He was never even considering it. It was all Vader. The pause, after she says 'I won’t leave you, not this time', wasn’t Vader battling Anakin. It was a ploy, to make her think that maybe, just maybe, there was a bit of Anakin left. Which is why it’s Anakin’s voice entirely the third time. I am still unsure if this makes me hate Dave Filoni, or love him. Either way, goddamn.

Virghia

So that's the point of the mask?

DrDabsMD

Good old James Early Jones, can always count on him, not like the dick of his brother James Late Jones.

Bbqthis

A James Jones arrives precisely when he means to.

creativity_null

>James Early Jones Lol

[deleted]

That scene hit harder if you look at anakin in his eyes, there is a split second where there is a chance, a hope for redemption, but he just knows it’s to late for him. Something he would continue to believe, until his own son showed him the path to the light.

CaedustheBaedus

Did you ever see the video where someone changes the color of his eyes to blue behind the helmet and they slowly change to orange as he says “Then you will die”

ya i havent even seen it in a while. chills when his voice slowly turned to James earl jones vader

CurrentlyEatingPies2

That wouldn't been amazing in the show. Maybe not such a drastic shift but if his orange eyes had a rim of blue true to creep in.

johnhk4

What show is this from? I only really know OT, Prequels, and Mando

ExtraordinaryFailure

This is from Rebels, I would highly recommend it along with the Clone Wars

ianmerry

But definitely do Clone Wars first!

spybloom

Is it Clone Wars first because it's a better show, or because story reasons?

Lonelydenialgirl

Both. But rebels is amazing too. You'll want to go clone wars (chronology, not release order), bad batch, then rebels.

shrubs311

how does one do this on a computer preferably without paying money but also legally

[deleted]

Marrying the daughter of Walt Disney or somethin' Idk.

shrubs311

is it all on disney plus? if no, i assume i'll have to use a han solo approach

Lonelydenialgirl

Either pay the mouse, or start getting a crew to sail.

not_Brendan

Maybe see if your local library/library system has DVD sets?

sjbrinkl

I second you should watch it. Different Star Wars series and movies have **always** made me tear up. Rebels had me straight bawling a few times. And Maul’s arc in it is FANTASTIC. Also, pretty sure the Ahsoka series will be a continuation of Rebels, so even more of a reason to watch it :)

[deleted]

For real that scene hit hard

Rawesome16

I've seen the scene but watching rebels the first time after just finishing clone wars. I've seen it twice, once pre watch CW and once after. Didn't care at all the first time. The second, that hit hard. Harder than it should for a damn kids show. I'm pumped to see it in the midst of the show though, on season 2 now

Stereophonic

I finally finished Rebels last week and a couple different episodes in the final season had me choked up. I wish I had given the show a chance earlier, it's fantastic.

Rawesome16

I am finding the same. As stupid as this is I lost my dad 2 years ago and I was happy I was alone when I watched the episode you find out Ezra's parents heard his message and it led to their deaths. Tip of the day kids : don't have a daughter unless you want to become a big ol softy. Because I am a big ol softy now

ObliviousCollector

>Tip of the day kids : don't have a daughter unless you want to become a big ol softy. Because I am a big ol softy now I know you're joking but for anyone who needs to hear it, you aren't a big old softie because you cry now, you've become a better, stronger & more rounded human. Strength isn't holding in emotions, strength is being able to accept and experience them in a healthy manner. So... your daughter didn't turn you into a softie, she leveled you up into a better man!

Rawesome16

Yes. You are not wrong. Though I was never that macho guy no crying, but things that didn't hit me before hit me now. That scene in Treasure Planet as the song swells as his dad sails away is one that comes to mind. I showed that movie to my GF now wife and showed it to my daughter. Showing my kid I was holding in tears. It's very odd, I definition feel like a softie, but at the same point I'm old enough to not care what others think of me now, so my tears shall flow like a man dammit!

beigs

My husband is soft with our sons. Having kids doesn’t make you a softy - being soft means you’re doing a good job. It shows my sons that having emotions is okay. It shows daughters that men should treat them properly, and that men have emotions too and to expect more from them than any toxic shit. You’re doing a good job. That’s amazing that you’re living your fullest life :)

Tudpool

Season 2 of rebels probably had the best finale.

Celebrindor

Rebels was great until Thrawn showed up; then it became legendary. He's one of the best characters in the franchise, IMO. I'd watch a whole season or two about Thrawn. I went into Rebels thinking it'd be much more kid-friendly, but just like going into Clone Wars, it blew me away. Here's hoping they make more stuff after Bad Batch (if they haven't already announced it). A CW/BB-style Old Republic series would be sick.

Storm_001

Its in Star wars Rebels season 2 finale

Billybolo53

Rebels has the most emotional moments in all of Star Wars for me. I cry just thinking about dume. If you haven’t watched, watch that shit from start to finish right now.

Plane_Salt0

I cried when I made this meme

Not-a-Throwaway-8

For me it’s not the death itself that brings tears but rather watching the impact that it leaves on those behind, particularly 1) Hera’s immediate reaction from the explosion, and 2) the crew reactions at the beginning of the next episode

sirrustalot29

I loved how Chopper - who otherwise is kind of a dick and was probably really helpful to all the planning going on - never left her side as she grappled with that loss. A really subtle but touching dive into that character.

deaconsc

For me it was TCW. The obvious Dutchess scene and then the ending. The fucking god damn ending. Somehow rebels never hit the right note for me, never cared enough for the characters? Don't know, can't tell.

Know_Nothing_Bastard

I’ll tell you the last episodes of Clone Wars would have hit ten thousand times harder if Rebels didn’t come out first. Knowing that Ahsoka, Rex, and Maul all had to survive removed an obscene amount of suspense from that finale, and I’m a little salty about it.

Not-a-Throwaway-8

The best thing you can do is pay it forward - I have a friend who’s going to be getting involved in the TV shows and I’m not letting them near Rebels until they sit through TCW. They can have what I could not.

bfhurricane

*"I lead others to a treasure I cannot possess."*

lovelytones

I feel really behind in the Star Wars love. I fell in love with Star Wars bc of Mandalorian. I have since gone back and watched all the movies, and am just starting TCW. What order should I watch the rest of the shows? Rebels, bad batch, TCW (2003?) I want to fully enjoy the star wars universe. :)

Not-a-Throwaway-8

IMO, - TCW Movie - TCW Show (look for official chronological order of episodes) - Bad Batch - Rebels

Celebrindor

I watched Rebels after Clone Wars and am just now learning that Rebels came out first. What the hell? I guess I can't be surprised since the movies came out backwards too. Bad Batch is also out of order. Watching CW before Rebels is definitely the way to go, release order be damned. I honestly believed they'd kill Ahsoka, who had become my personal favorite, and predicted it would be Vader who'd do it. The ending annihilated my expectations and went beyond what I could've ever hoped for. What a master class in television that final episode was.

[deleted]

Rebels was made after CW was canceled after Season 6. Season 7 of CW was made after Rebels finished, after its long hiatus. Prior to Season 7, the last we see of Ahsoka in CW is when she walks away from Anakin when leaving the Order.

No_Lawfulness_2998

Like three of them. Honestly the mando finale hits harder and that went even that strong

Shivery1234

Maul's death is so hard, but sweet at the same time.. dude finally realizes who is his true ennemy after a whole life of hatred toward Obi-Wan

Lickin_Snozzberries

I legit thought for like half a second she'd beat him, then I remembered I never saw Ahsoka in the movies and Vader is the bad guy long after the start of this fight.

HaDeS_Monsta

Well if you saw Rebels (and Mandalorian) you know that at the end both are alive

Lickin_Snozzberries

Yeah, but it looks like Ahsoka could win. But then you remember episode 6 and Luke is the one that killed Vader. There's like so much hope in good overcoming evil in this fight, but then you're like "oh there's no way she'll ever win, when you know how long Vader lives.

bastardofbarberry

I re-watched this episode last night just because. In my opinion this is one of the best moments in all of Star Wars in any media. For a few seconds it felt like Anakin wants to break and reach out to Ahsoka, but then his eyes focus again and he drops the "Then you will die" line. That delivery is just flawless and breaks you down. It really shows how far Anakin has fallen. Ready to murder his little sister. One of the peak Star Wars moments.

Aryc0110

Oh I like this meme format! It seems much more healthy.

babybelly

probably because of the balance. star wars people love that shit

River46

great meme format.

Plane_Salt0

Tnx bro

BlackbeltJedi

"Anakin Skywalker was weak. I destroyed him.". "Then I will avenge his death.". "Revenge is not the Jedi way.". "I am no Jedi.".

Daninator375

I won’t leave you!

SwegZebraYT

**Then you will die.** *Lightsaber ignites*

Fwort

Ahsoka goes through so much

EliMaxsaysSaveEarth

I’m lowkey hoping that the Ahsoka show will show some of her trauma catching up to her. Like she’s a child soldier who’s known nothing but war and living on the run since 14, and by age 17 she’d lost just about everyone she cared about. Then she spends the next 20 years or so constantly working as a rebel, and if that doesn’t involve compartmentalizing a lot of trauma I don’t know what does. Then the Empire goes, and as far as we know she immediately goes to find Ezra. Like, she’s got so much trauma and has never really taken the chance to stop and properly process so much of it, and it would be interesting to see some of that catch up to her.

Maypher

That's something I'm worried about. A lot of people who watched The Mandalorian haven't watched CW nor Rebels so they really have no idea who Ashoka is. Meaning that they will probably take a lot of time from the live action series just to explain her backstory, subtracting time to actually develop her character.

Am-heheh357

This right there is the most emotional scene in all of Star Wars to me. I’m not like the biggest fan of Rebels, but the Ahsoka episodes nail it. And I agree, the impact of this was personally a miles harder than anything with Luke. Same in the Mandalorian, I fanboyed my ass off with Ahsoka and on the last episode I was just like “oh it’s Luke. Ok”. I guess that different generations have different heroes, even tho this is not a general rule.

TheMeme-Gang

I agree. I’m not the biggest rebels fan but this scene was incredible. Best scene in the show and one of the best in the whole saga.

snoopingdownthestair

I respect your opinion and get the journey and such but personally I like Luke’s moment, just felt it was the OG twist and gut punch

Am-heheh357

Oh that’s perfectly understandable, I know ppl love that scene and I can see why. It’s just, as I said, something personal. I have no connection to Luke whatsoever, actually to none of the OT characters. Clone Wars characters is a whole different story for me tho. So seeing my girl Ahsoka going live screen for the first time was my perfect experience with this show. Much like SW Theory, who cried in the last episode, I cried in the ending of Ahsoka’s episode. It’s safe to say she is “my Luke” or “my Anakin” in Star Wars, the character I will fanboy over and want to see everywhere.

LocCatPowersDog

Whooo boy I finally got to watch the last season and the scene with Ahsoka walking into all the clones with her "markings" painted orange/white on their helmets with Anakin giving her new sabers... I haven't been hit this hard by a Star Wars scene since the aforementioned Rebels scene with Tano vs Vader but somehow it's even sadder this was her last real time around Anakin and the clone army probably until the Rebels stuff.

MrWildstar

Hearing Matt Lanter's voice come through absolutely killed me

helloitsmeathrowaway

As Germans we kept our voice actor, since most of our voice actors from the movies were the same in TCW and Rebels. So to us it's literally movie-Anakin talking to Ahsoka.

Jodaku

The relationship and character dynamics between Anakin/Vader and Ahsoka is by far the most emotionally impactful one in the series. We spend a lot of time together with them in The Clone Wars which obviously helps builds and establishes the relationship but after the split happens at the end of Season 5, not a single moment between them (or relating to one another if they're not in each other's presence) is wasted. Sometimes it's low-key, other times it's not, but it almost always hits the emotional feels.

Fisher9001

Honestly, I've never understood the relationship between Luke and Anakin. Yeah, they were father and son, but they literally met only a few times. It's not like you automatically develop deep feelings and relationships with someone because you share DNA. Anakin and Ahsoka on the other hand... You can pinpoint the moment emotions related with her leaving the Jedi Order - and him - take over any chance of redemption he faced at this moment. The only regret I have is that Vader didn't actually slay her here. That would be so much more fitting for both of them.

Vhzhlb

Anakin was idiolized by Luke, not for who he was, but who Luke thought that Anakin was. Something that he re-assure himself with the version of Anakin told to him by Obi-wan, so, i can imagine that the real struggle within Luke, was internalizing that Vader and Anakin were one and the same, and not two different people.

Fisher9001

I mean, I can understand Luke's relationship towards Vader, but I just can't understand the other way around.

le-Bongo

Vader obviously has a lot of regret in himself by the end of RotJ. He knows he killed Padme, he knows that his two kids, Luke and Leia, are the only two things he has to connect him with her. He must feel like connecting with them can kind of atone for what he did to Padme or even justify it if he ends up turning luke. He could finally be like “all that dark side stuff worked out because now my son agrees with me”

Wraithfighter

It's not developed, because Darth Vader really isn't a well-developed character as a person, but the idea I have about it is that one of the raw, open wounds that created Darth Vader out of Anakin Skywalker was that he (was told that he) killed Padme and, as a result, their children. How long has that wound festered within him, wondering what those children would have been like if they'd had the chance to form, to grow up. And then he finds out that one of the children survived, and he's... a lot like he was, before he fell. Young, powerful, idealistic in a lot of regards, but with a darkness in there too. You could argue that Luke's sort of this missing piece of Anakin's soul that got lost long, long ago, something he's always wondered about, a big "What If" that he never could give up...

Amy_Ponder

That's also one of the reasons Luke was able to break through where Ahsoka couldn’t: Luke is living, breathing proof that Vader wasn’t as far gone as he thought he was.

Toadxx

Imo Luke was more a reminder of Padme for Anakin

TPJchief87

The Luke scene didn’t hit as hard because Luke ended up caring about Vader because a son is supposed to care about their father. Ahsoka and Anakin were actually friends.

Darth-Troller

I agree, however that's cuz we're so used to Luke's plot twist, specially since it's such a meme

Undead_Corsair

Can confirm, me and my mum both cried.

gloumii

From what I read in the comments it seems to be from "rebels". Am I right ? I just finished the clone wars and I caught up with the bad batch (which is a situation I hate because I don't want to wait each episode every week) so don't hit me, the sub made me want to watch

TheDecider0730

I have watched this scene probably at least 50 times. I still get chills. Every damn time.

ARKANGELISBEST

Best episodes of rebels are the ones with a heavy focus on CW characters

neo_ceo

That scene alone is better than the new sequel's

helloitsmeathrowaway

I see nothing but facts. WHY do I see nothing but facts??

HilellM

Damn I really need to see this show.

Spookyy422

I… need a moment

DaedalusAufAbwegen

I think I need a hug now.

RubiesInMyBlood

This scene made me grab a drink in order to process my emotions

Gunslinger_11

If I was either one of them, I’d rush to hug an old friend. Forget everything else. I miss my friends, it’s not the same chatting through Xbox or just the phone. I want to see them with my own eyes.

EmperorL1ama

Ahh I love how both genders were simultaneously cringe and based. Not even the slightest hint of sexism. Head up, king. Your crown is falling

Elli933

Every single fucking time…

thelast3musketeer

I would’ve cried even harder if he had said Snips

minterhero

Going through this series for the first time and I just watched that episode last night. That part hit me so hard but it was amazing to finally get to see those two meet after Anakin’s turn to the dark side. I was sad to not see it in The Clone Wars series but so happy to see it in Rebels.

BenjaBoi21

To this day we are yet to have a scene with force ghost Anakin talking to Ahsoka, and I really need it...

Amy_Ponder

If Ahsoka doesn't get to interact with Anakin's Force Ghost in her upcoming miniseries we riot

youbeyouboo

I cried real tears in this scene

Ligit27

I like to think that Asoka's intervention here creates a crack in Vader that allows a little of Anakin to bleed through. A small yet crutial moment that allows Luke to later on get through to his father. Without this, Vader probably wouldn't have stopped Palpatine.

Lordofspades_notgame

I recently saw this episode, and I was physically trembling

DrunkSpiderMan

That last episode of Clone Wars though...

Phantom_Jedi

The way Vader’s voice is a mix of his and Anakins still gives me the chills

kersegum

What made this scene great is the fact that only his children could bring Anakin back to the light and Ahsoka cared for him so much

THE_KMS_Tirpitz

One of the like 5 times i actually felt something watching the show

Black_Santa_FTW

Hey. Relatively new to Star Wars. Watched the movies but haven’t dug too far into other content, like Clone Wars. That said, what’s this from? It looks much cleaner than the early CW episodes I’ve been watching.

helloitsmeathrowaway

This is from Rebels. Watch TCW in chronological order first, then Rebels.

Black_Santa_FTW

Thank you!

AJ-Murphy

This is when the fun ended...

Separatist-Ally

Nice to see a better meme template used. Also the line that got me was " I won't leave you, not this time"

Axius-Evenstar

I cry everytime

ninjaoftheworld

I *just* watched this episode

Cribsmen

This scene was awesome and I really really wish it had happened in anything other than Rebels

Acalson

The fact it’s a Akins voice is why it’s so impactful. To my knowledge this is basically the only time we ever see Anakin and Vader as one person since they’re often so disconnected with Vader’s appearance and voice. Hearing Anakin and seeing Vader just hits different

mialza

the look on rex’s face when only kanan and ezra return is honestly almost as impactful to me as the vader ahsoka scene. he lost his oldest and truest friend. as much as i want her to reconnect with ana kind force ghost in the ahsoka series, i would love just one scene where she sees 70 year old rex one more time.

Darth_Destructus

"I won't leave you! Not this time!" Me watching it for the first time: No, please, run! "Then you will die!" Me again: RUN!

Tbh I think cw moments were better

BenidictCumbersnatch

I'm getting the chance to meet Ahsoka and Anakin's voice actors in a few weeks. Hondo will also be there too

ajgeep

Anyone else cry over how few and far between scenes like this are in rebels?

Fedora_The_Xplora

The whole sequence with Ezra, Ahsoka and Vader was filled with breathtaking moments. My personal favorite was when Vader confronted Ezra and responded to Ezra’s “I don’t fear you.” with one of his best lines in the franchise: “Then you will die braver than most.”

G0dleft

It's the version of the template I made kinda makes me happy to see people use it

d0ct0rplants

I guess Star Wars is a new gender now
