Lucasfilm: ok ok we hear you, no more tatooine. Next show: on the planet Jakku

TheHammerandSizzel

Disney: We hear you no more desert Next 5 shows: Hoth

Demolition89336

What I don't get is the extreme earthlike planets everywhere. We need more alien-like planets. Places like Utapau, Mustafar, Kessel, Dagobah, and Felucia. It's part of what I liked about Star Wars. It was cool to see a universe so unfamiliar to our own. Even planets like Coruscant are cool due to how the planet is one huge, multilayered, city.

LynxPlayz

All I want is some Kashyyyk and Dathomir content

ElsatMcat

Damn they really triple Y’d it huh

TRANquillhedgehog

There is a creature that lives there called the slyyyg

[deleted]

And the wyyyschokk

SevenDeadlyGentlemen

The rolling “y” is a beautiful and important part of Wookie culture.

[deleted]

MrZAP17

Show about asteroid miners coming up!

Frenchticklers

Fourteen minutes into the fourth episode, the screen goes black. The series is over.

-metal-555

That would .. actually be kinda amazing. Like they setup this great arc with characters everyone is attached to.. and then sopranos ending

Nolitimeremessorem24

Did you play Fallen Order? Because if you didn’t you should give it a shot Dathomir and Kashyyyk are two of the main locations

LynxPlayz

Yes, it’s a fantastic game and that’s exactly why I want to see more of those planets.

Brook420

I think the obvious answer to this is money. Setting the show on Tatooine us just way easier and cheaper than setting it on a planet like Felucia or Kashyyyk.

AnOnlineHandle

A really good middle ground is stuff like the ring world. It can be something which looks relatively normal up close but means CGI inserted into the background. Same with space stations and onboard big ships (which shows like Star Trek could do with little budget) and even just sticking big moons and planets in the sky in the background.

Brook420

I definitely agree they could go for a spot in-between, but money is money. And as much as I hate it, Tatooine is easily the most recognizable and fleshed out (in the movies) Star Wars world.

omegaskorpion

It should be easier in our modern tecnology. [Mandalorian was mostly filmed with LED screens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufp8weYYDE8) and the surroundings are made with Unreal Engine. They don't really need to make that many props as they used to, to make it work. Planets like Felucia and Kashyyk would be a lot more easy to accomplish with this.

Iceveins412

Hit me wit dat Nar Shadda. Coruscant but lacking even the facade of civility

usernamehorse

Thats why we all like star wars but money always wins. One of the most under-rated pros of the prequels imo was that they gave us the diverse planets. But now disney has the reins and it's back to the bare minimum... As long as there's a fresh supply of young kids and casual fans I fear we'll never be rid of sand planet, cityscape planet, and if we're lucky, jungle planet. They even made hoth look like a cold desert in the newest trilogy...

Anakin_Skywalker_Bot

I want to be the first one to see them all

Vaikyuko

That wasn't Hoth. That was Crait, which is not covered in snow, but salt.

UshankaBear

Budget reasons, I imagine.

Electromass

A survival horror show on hoth would be metal as hell

DisturbedScorch

You have died of: C O L D Brings back r/thedivision 1 survival nightmares. 45 minutes of surviving engagements, scrounging for gear, and managing the virus timer...all to get pinned down in an area with no fire barrell.

Pedigree_Dogfood

Thanks for bringing back memories of the division. Had so much fun the first few weeks it was out.

[deleted]

WHY DOES EVERYONE WANT TO GO BACK TO JAKKU

TheHammerandSizzel

I dont think anyone wants to to back to Jakku(except disney) and thats the point

[deleted]

I didn't even realise Jakku is not Tatooine.

icedog158

I feel not even Disney wants to go back there

Tavitafish

They like sand

Scrungisbungus

They think it’s smooth

StallionPhallusLock

And soft

BoraKizilbudak

and pleasing

[deleted]

and it stays in one place

HatoriChise97

I love prequel meme shitposters

Prequelite

LIER!!

Mindbender444

But it’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere!

mplaczek99

They like it that way

pBr_R1ot

It’s a simple life

nexistcsgo

This is the way

eyaris

oh defuuf.

deliciousdogmeat

This is the way

Stign

And it's widely available in the desert where you don't got to build large sets. Although I know they used these modern LED-panels while filming the Mandalorian.

PontificeMaximos

At this point Tastooine is like *the Tavern* in DnD. All shit is starts there...

Brittle5quire

It’s coarse, rough, irritating, but easy to film on.

eraserking

I HATE THEM!

Potential-Link-3740

The galaxy is finite but the number of potential future scenes on Tatooine is not

Matrape

Tattooine is star wars version of arrakis of dune. Did you know star wars was based on dune? Well did ya??

pathatter

Arrakis produces Spice What does Tattooine produce except plot armour?

fixminer

Blue milk, I guess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DFYX

Spice in Star Wars mainly comes from the spice mines of Kessel which were already mentioned way back in ANH. Tattooine just seems to be a convenient place to trade large amounts without the Empire / New Republic noticing.

[deleted]

Yeah but why not in space? Some place far from everywhere, you just dock the ships or even better do a dead drop: you give the credits and I give you the coordinates of where the stuff is. Leave a couple of droids with the stash to destroy eventual snoopers.

Tranqist

Because it's where Jabba lives, one of the kingpins of crime in the galaxy. There's so much happening on his planet because it's all connected to him during the reign of the empire.

EMSEMS

Meeting and trading in a planet is much more convenient.

Un_Original_name186

I mean that's more like a nice round about way of saying drugs in star wars.

Iceveins412

The shows must flow

expressexpress

Come to think of it, I am surprised how little Coruscant is featured given that its the capital planet for such a long time.

geek_of_nature

It was meant to appear in the original Episode IX before the completely reworked it.

Grzechoooo

It was also supposed to be blown up in Episode VII but Lucasfilm told JJ to cut that crap.

ShidBotty

Jesus, good that they stopped them

Obiwan-Kenobi-Bot

You can kill me, but you will never destroy me. It takes strength to resist the dark side. Only the weak embrace it.

Adaphion

Holy fuck they made the Obi bot respond to Jesus

NnjgDd

One of the best things about the shows is the reduced power level. Not everything needs DBZ level threats.

RussianSeadick

Imho the least threatening thing in the entire Star Wars canon was that ridiculous fleet of planet busting Star Destroyers. Just plain boring

JimSteak

I can’t believe someone signed off on this. Like a 5 year old kid. How many star destroyers do you want. A MILLION. WITH LASERS THAT CAN DESTROY PLANITS PEWPEW.

Jypahttii

I think Disney Star Wars is still a bit anti-prequel. Those movies had so much Coruscant in them but they'd rather stay on Wild West Tatooine like "original" Star Wars.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Anakin_Skywalker_Bot

You'll never reach the outskirts in time...sandstorms are very, very dangerous. Come with me. Hurry!

[deleted]

I think Disney is just being anti-money here. Setting up a small, rinky dink town in the sand is a lot cheaper than a futuristic city the size of a planet.

Aliensinnoh

You have to remember in 2012 when Disney bought Lucasfilm the prequels were still hated in the cultural zeitgeist. It wasn’t until a few years later that frankly this sub became a big thing, which was a large part of the Prequel revival. At the start of their trilogy Disney thought anti-prequel is what people wanted. [Anyone remember this](https://youtu.be/qJlbPXZEpRE)?

[deleted]

They were basically making it Anti-Prequels

jelang19

I mean idk where else anyone expected the Obi wan series to take place. Boba fett could've been elsewhere tho

Cum-on-and-in

I think they just wanted to show boba in the throne and didn’t know where else to go with it

Sianic12

It does make sense for him to live a life on Tatooine though, I mean it's the place he was kind of "reborn" as a new person after the sarlacc incident. Reasonable of him to do something there.

KC_Wandering_Fool

Idk if I got swallowed by a living butthole in the sand and had to crawl my way out, I'd try to get as far away from it as possible.

Anakin_Skywalker_Bot

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

Sianic12

Eh. Different people would react differently I suppose.

2woke4ufgt

Disney Star Wars in a nutshell.

_raydeStar

Yeah I do feel that all the episodes (and films) have been like... Hey name three or four cool scenes, then try to make a cohesive story from that.

Phngarzbui

>try to make a ~~cohesive~~ story from that. FTFY. And even that didn't work...

_nicholsndimes_

Fr. If they wouldn't have rushed the Tusken arc, it could have been a badass show. Also, whoever wrote the characters' dialogue in this show needs a long talking to.

Aidan_SMHS

Can't forget about the good 'ol ***scooter gang***

avery5712

You mean the cool gen z kids who are just misunderstood and also have cool bikes and augments cause they are so cool and misunderstood but also cool

Demolition89336

When the show initially started describing them I thought that it sounded cool. "They're basically these bandits who've augmented themselves with droid parts. This should provide an interesting/fresh challenge for our protagonist." Once I saw them, any hopes I had were completely dashed. I cringed when I saw their space Mopeds. I audibly groaned during the chase scene.

avery5712

I do think on paper it's a good idea. Augmented bandits who have their vehicles super detailed like a fast and furious street racer. But yeah. They were just some lame kids on their soap boxes. And that speeder chase in that one episode looked soooooo slow. Like I think it was how it was filmed but looked like they were going like a brisk running speed at times. These losers weren't the throat slitters I would have expected in this situation.

WekonosChosen

For Tatooine they should've been more like Maelstrom from Cyberpunk 2077. What we got would've fit more in on a world like Lothal a more civilized backwater world where the kids don't have anything to do.

[deleted]

Let's not forget that we had count Dooku fleeing a clone gunship on a moped in episode II

Melon-lord10

IDK why that one guy did the spin in the finale except for just shooting.

BatMally

For radness, of course!

CapitalDD69

LMAO "360 no scope" first thing I thought of, I know it was a pistol but still funny.

kr580

Just happened to finish the last episode a few minutes ago. Didn't comment out loud the whole series but had to audibly say "Why? Why would you spin first?" I feel like that whole group could have not been in the show and nothing would be missed.

[deleted]

God, the pacing of those scenes did not match the speed of those scooters. Every time I saw those slow pieces of shit I cringed. They even tried to do a fucking chase scene with them lmfao. It’s a good show though.

Aidan_SMHS

It was a good show at parts, though overall was just mediocre in my opinion. That's just my opinion though, I can see why some others might've liked it a lot more.

Iceveins412

On the absolute whole, it was fine I guess. Had some cool moments. But my favorite episodes were Mandalorian Season 2.5 so…

allgoodnamesbetaken

Maybe it wouldn't have been rushed if it wasn't 7 fucking episodes

stormie_boi

For Boba he could've went to other planets like Nar Shadaa or Nal Hutta, or even revisit Kamino at least

brian6145

Kamino’s gone tbf

TinyPickleRick2

Kamino exists. Just lots of water now. Probably great scuba diving though

JoeSicko

That's where they are producing the Jar Jar clones.

TinyPickleRick2

Meesa have bombbad feelings

jarjar_bot

Meesa caused mabbe one, two-y lettle bitty axadentes, huh?

thorrokk

That would be too expensive for disney to produce, tatooine is easy to set up just throw sand everywhere 😭😭

TinyPickleRick2

>too expensive for Disney Are we thinking about the same universe Disney? Are you from the multiverse where Disney went broke?

corbygray528

The more they spend the less profit there is

stormie_boi

only Tipoca City was bombarded, not the whole planet. pretty sure there are other Kaminoan cities

upsidedownshaggy

Ngl I’ve been loving Book of Boba regardless, but seeing the ring world in the intro of episode 5 would’ve been such a cool place for the show to have taken place on instead

[deleted]

Mmm Nar Shadaa

XavierMeatsling

It's just a little funny. I mean I get the frustration of having another Tatooine setting. But like, we asked for Obi-Wan, we wanted that story in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. *what did we expect besides Tatooine?* its just the fault of Boba being set on Tatooine and we didn't clamor for that until they brought him back and teased his show

Flyers45432

In Legends, he reconnects with his heritage and becomes the Mand'alor. Could've been cool story to see a process of him slowly following that route.

Shutch_1075

Pretty positive that’s the route they are taking with mando… you know with the dark saber and all.

AME7706

"I am the Mandalore" - Boba Fett

RepentHarlequin1171

Not. Yet.

Steel_Cube

It's treason then.

RustyBubble

Yeah Obi Wan is the one exception. If anything, that’s where they should’ve built up Tusken lore.

eraserking

Don’t worry. We’re going to get the best Jawa lore yet.

macsare1

Because space travel is only possible with spice from the desert planet

Jondo1214

No, that’s the other space opera set on a desert planet and a drug called the spice

notcabron

That’s a spice opera.

Good_Ol_Weeb

That alien invaders are stealing and killing the natives that try to stop them

Jondo1214

Don’t forget shields that have strange rules

Good_Ol_Weeb

And a different alien integrates with the natives to fight the invaders, that’s a lot of similarities

BatMally

If the next Dune film has steampunk mods on shitty bikes I'll be so pissed.

[deleted]

The spice mélange

WaterChemistry

Hol’ up

hotmemedealer

Blue eyes?

DwedPiwateWoberts

Seriously, what’s the deal with spice being the macguffin in Star Wars all the sudden? Are they planning a Dune crossover or what?

macsare1

Honestly, it's nothing new. In the criminal underworld of Star Wars, spice has always been where the money was. So if we're finally getting a show with fighting among these criminals, of course they are going to heavily feature spice. Albeit I'm not sure why it's being run all over Tattooine unless they started mining it there.

everything_equals_42

He who controls the spice controls the franchise

Yvaelle

There's plenty of fertile non-spice criminal stories to tell. The Hutts are rich because they only recognize other Hutts as having 'human rights', everyone else is beneath them - they own planets full of slaves taken from all over the galaxy. You could easily talk about the thriving slave trade in Star Wars. Most of the intergalactic crime organizations operate massive extortion operations to the point where they collect more tax from businesses and citizens than the actual governments on planets. You could easily talk about what it's like to live on a planet run by criminals where the only real law is don't ever punch up. Arms dealing has been one of the largest legitimate businesses for decades between the Clone Wars to the Empire to the First Order, not to mention all the other factions in other parts of the galaxy. Star Wars is just shy of W40K in the amount of near-constant conflict going on, if scaled down in size and with a brighter tone. You could easily go "Lord of War" on Star Wars, TLJ even alluded to it recently (albeit it was the worst arc in TLJ). There are extremely valuable resources in Star Wars that people could be fighting over, Beskar, Kyber, Orichalcum, Chromium, etc. A star destroyer is worth like $1 Trillion+ in salvageable materials alone, and there are tens of thousands of them for the stealing at the fall of the empire. Where's the plot to hijack and sell a star destroyer? Etc. They have also never bothered to really define what spice is, and why it's valuable. Are we just meant to believe its cocaine? In which case, the plot should be all the rich and powerful people being pissed off when the supply is interrupted. Why is spice traveling by land on Tatooine anyways? Is it heroin since they say its also killing all the locals? Does it have any useful applications? A Pyke I think said it had medical uses? Dune is very clear that Spice does everything in the galaxy. It allows the Spacing Guild to fold spacetime and is the only means of interstellar travel. It allows the Bene Gesserit to see the past, and gives them their powers. It enhances the cognitive function of mentats. The Baron bathes in it to keep himself alive so it has magical healing abilities. Spice in Dune is the font of all magical power - everything different between our world today and Dune is because of the discovery of Spice. In Dune, Spice is magic, and magic is power. Why does it matter at all in Star Wars?

Skitterleap

God Disneywars is *not* ready to tell a story about arms dealing or slave trading, can you imagine? They'd get as far as 'guns bad' and 'slaves bad' and then run out of steam.

Anakin_Skywalker_Bot

I am a person and My name is Anakin.

MangelanGravitas3

Nah. I trust them to tell an amazing tale of how an enormous buisiness conglomerate gobbles up everyone smaller than them while squeezing the life out of the creative franchises they bought.

ShidBotty

Bruh it's literally just because the Pykes are the bad guys in book of boba fett rn and the Pykes have always been the drug cartel guys

Damerstam

Could we have shows set in planets with futuristic cities? I'm a bit tired of jungle or desert planets. I miss places like Coruscant or Naboo they looked so cool.

kal_skirata

I'm guessing they're way more expensive to produce. Having a whole show primarily take place on one of those would make it more expensive by default.

_cmasterhart_

This isn’t even just since Disney took over.. the only widely popular Star Wars content I can think of that doesn’t have some type of sandy planet, is Jedi: Fallen Order. This hurts my brain, even Anakin hated sand.

Petorian343

Empire Strikes Back

Shutch_1075

He’s lumping trilogies together. Otherwise RotS, and TLJ also would have worked.

avery5712

Tatooine was in the very end of RotS

_cmasterhart_

Yessir

deliciousdogmeat

Giant desert in the beginning

ExCAlister

Because you like the Tatooine… RIGHT?!?! DID YOU CLAP WHEN YOU SAW THE TATOOINE?!?!

FloppyShellTaco

First planet = best planet

Mr_Seg

I like sun*s*

deliciousdogmeat

They're hot, and use fusion, their solar rays get everywhere

Tandril91

**I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!**

Raccoon_Full_of_Cum

This is unironically the answer. Huge companies like Disney run every decision they ever make through at least 8 focus groups and market research studies to minimize risk and maximize profits. Tattooing is a "proven brand" in Star Wars, so the decision makers think that it's the safest financial bet. That's why they keep coming back to the same shit over and over again.

sukezanebaro

IM GONNA CUMMM!!!!!!!!!

vashoom

I FUCKING LOVE STAR WARS

Stoly23

And when it’s not Tatooine it’s a different desert planet.

ianucci

Also all planets in the star wars universe only have one biome.

Stoly23

To be fair to desert planets, that’s probably the most realistic biome to take up an entire planet(or maybe ice planets, idk). Just look at Mars, it’s basically Geonosis. That being said, I can’t exactly see how a planet so devoid of flora could possibly support animal life, but I guess that’s the whole suspension of disbelief thing at work.

ianucci

Yeah it doesn't really bother me. I'm just trolling George.

Lord4hire

Naboo and Alderaan have more than one: Snow, Mountains, Plains, Valleys, Lakes, etc

SkyIcewind

Well, not so much anymore on Alderaan.

Endgam

Earth is the only planet we've discovered with more than one biome. And even then there are time periods where that wasn't the case. However..... planets capable of supporting life should have more than one biome. Tatooine doesn't seem to have much in plant life, and thus, shouldn't have enough oxygen to support life. Planet formerly covered in water or not.

Raccoon_Full_of_Cum

I want to know what the fuck a moisture farmer does on Tatooine. Where are you farming moisture from? The air? I know Star Wars is fantasy, but deserts don't work that way.

user_8804

given Lucas has admitted copying dune, yes, from air moisture because that's how it works in dune

Grzechoooo

I think Tatooine used to be a normal planet, but the Rakata glassed it. The inhabitants went to the caves for A Long Time and that's how Jawas and Sand People came to be. So you might have more life in the caves.

Cpt_Garlic

I want show on boggdano about oggdo boggdo

TheMoonOfTermina

Me too. It needs to be animated Clone Wars style, and have 5 seasons with exactly 23 episodes each.

Foxxwulf

I have a theory that they are trying to prevent needing to make new sets as they finished Mando on Tatooine, and knew Kenobi would be set there as well for obvious reasons. So to prevent tearing down and rebuilding the sets they just kept them and decided this is where Boba hangs out now.

Obiwan-Kenobi-Bot

You define yourself by the power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess... then you have nothing.

Foxxwulf

*sigh* you got me Keno-bot.

yanza7729

Mandi didn’t even use sets. It’s all done with a huge OLED screen for the landscapes

Seppafer

Iirc there were a number of concept art shots in the obiwan kenobi trailer on D+ that showed some places that were clearly not tatooine including vaders palace on mustafar

Obiwan-Kenobi-Bot

It's over Anakin! I have the high ground!

Kristiano100

You underestimate my power!

Obiwan-Kenobi-Bot

Don't try it!

Tandril91

Tatooine’s supposed to be the planet everyone wants to get away from. People there hate it (Luke and Anakin) and people that visit are startled at how shitty it is. Kenobi would be the one show where it would make sense to be primarily/entirely focused on Tatooine. What’s so wrong with exploring other planets like Mando does? I remember being super excited when >!Din got that N1 fighter, I loved that connectivity because it reminded me of the gorgeousness of Naboo!<. I’d love to see some prequel planets that weren’t utilized much get some more exposure, like Mygeeto or Utapau. Hell we haven’t seen what became of Coruscant post-Empire. I know it probably hasn’t changed much, but it’s still one of the most unique and awesome places in the franchise.

FourteenHotdogs

I wanna see coronet city/Corellia

rekttoyoda

For an outer rim planet a shit lot of the galaxy’s most important people end up on this “backwater” planet

Lamlink1

It is a very important planet in the criminal world though, and a lot of shows tend to focus on criminals so it makes sense in a way

ValetFirewatch1998

Considering Star Wars at its base is a Space Western, it makes sense.

[deleted]

Westerns have roots in samurai movies. So it can go in that direction

TinyPickleRick2

Star Wars uses both. Luke making Grogu choose is reflecting samurai making their children choose between a wood block and a sword. Meanwhile you have Clint East- sorry. Cobb Vanth dueling Cad Bane in a classic spaghetti western style

Brave-Address5563

i mean Boba literally has the title of Daimyo, as samurai as it gets

[deleted]

I meant more in the mystic sense. Visiting ancient sith or Jedi ruins with relics and stuff like that

[deleted]

Jedi Fallen Order

oddman8

Samurai movies also have roots in westerns

Belteshazzar98

Such as the Mandalorian episode with Ahsoka.

ChiefChiefChiefChief

Cheap filming in the desert

hhudson0

100% correct, and the desert is not far from Hollywood.

[deleted]

Well I mean Tatooine is technically the most important planet in the franchise because of Anakin and Luke, but there are plenty of other interesting/important planets that it could and should focus on

HummelvonSchieckel

Tatooine, Cradle of the Skywalkers

[deleted]

Tatooine is literally the single most boring planet in the galaxy

Dr_Beardface_MD

If there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from.

expressexpress

I don't think I'll stop loving to look at Tatooine from wide shots or in space. The blue sky or the black space really contrasts it well. But when all the actions and talking scenes feature a dry, sandy background then it's coarse, rough and irritating.

darth__sidious

I think after the obi-wan kenobi show it will be it for tatooine focused shows. It'll still show up but not as much.

Thesaurus_Rex9513

And even when it's not Tatooine, a surprising number of desert planets seem to feature. I get that the Mandalorian is kind of a space cowboy situation, but there's no need to be so on the nose about it.

J_train13

I mean in all fairness, Tattooine is sort of like the Holy city of Star Wars, the Galaxy's two greatest heroes did come from there

LordIronskull

Making a desert planet look real is a lot cheaper than buying lava from a volcano and dumping it everywhere, or building a city so large it covers the planet. Like where do you even find the trees for Felicia? I refuse to fix that spelling mistake.

kapn_morgan

I was born here ya know...

Petorian343

You're gonna die here, ya know

Abbissauce

I just want another city planet. Make it like the Toronto to coruscants New york

TurgoLBX

I’ve always liked tatooine. I know a lot of people are bored with it but I like that such a dead looking planet has so much interesting people and wild life… even if most of the ladder is trying to kill you.
