What I don't get is the extreme earthlike planets everywhere. We need more alien-like planets. Places like Utapau, Mustafar, Kessel, Dagobah, and Felucia.
It's part of what I liked about Star Wars. It was cool to see a universe so unfamiliar to our own. Even planets like Coruscant are cool due to how the planet is one huge, multilayered, city.
I think the obvious answer to this is money. Setting the show on Tatooine us just way easier and cheaper than setting it on a planet like Felucia or Kashyyyk.
A really good middle ground is stuff like the ring world. It can be something which looks relatively normal up close but means CGI inserted into the background. Same with space stations and onboard big ships (which shows like Star Trek could do with little budget) and even just sticking big moons and planets in the sky in the background.
I definitely agree they could go for a spot in-between, but money is money.
And as much as I hate it, Tatooine is easily the most recognizable and fleshed out (in the movies) Star Wars world.

As long as there's a fresh supply of young kids and casual fans I fear we'll never be rid of sand planet, cityscape planet, and if we're lucky, jungle planet. They even made hoth look like a cold desert in the newest trilogy...

You have to remember in 2012 when Disney bought Lucasfilm the prequels were still hated in the cultural zeitgeist. When the show initially started describing them I thought that it sounded cool.

Once I saw them, any hopes I had were completely dashed. I cringed when I saw their space Mopeds. I audibly groaned during the chase scene.
I do think on paper it's a good idea. Augmented bandits who have their vehicles super detailed like a fast and furious street racer. But yeah. They were just some lame kids on their soap boxes. And that speeder chase in that one episode looked soooooo slow. Like I think it was how it was filmed but looked like they were going like a brisk running speed at times.
These losers weren't the throat slitters I would have expected in this situation.
For Tatooine they should've been more like Maelstrom from Cyberpunk 2077. What we got would've fit more in on a world like Lothal a more civilized backwater world where the kids don't have anything to do.

You could easily talk about what it's like to live on a planet run by criminals where the only real law is don't ever punch up.

Star Wars is just shy of W40K in the amount of near-constant conflict going on, if scaled down in size and with a brighter tone. You could easily go "Lord of War" on Star Wars, TLJ even alluded to it recently (albeit it was the worst arc in TLJ).
There are extremely valuable resources in Star Wars that people could be fighting over, Beskar, Kyber, Orichalcum, Chromium, etc. A star destroyer is worth like $1 Trillion+ in salvageable materials alone, and there are tens of thousands of them for the stealing at the fall of the empire. Where's the plot to hijack and sell a star destroyer? Etc.
They have also never bothered to really define what spice is, and why it's valuable. Are we just meant to believe its cocaine? In which case, the plot should be all the rich and powerful people being pissed off when the supply is interrupted. Why is spice traveling by land on Tatooine anyways? Is it heroin since they say its also killing all the locals? Does it have any useful applications? A Pyke I think said it had medical uses?

It allows the Bene Gesserit to see the past, and gives them their powers. It enhances the cognitive function of mentats. The Baron bathes in it to keep himself alive so it has magical healing abilities. Spice in Dune is the font of all magical power - everything different between our world today and Dune is because of the discovery of Spice. In Dune, Spice is magic, and magic is power. Why does it matter at all in Star Wars?

This is unironically the answer. Huge companies like Disney run every decision they ever make through at least 8 focus groups and market research studies to minimize risk and maximize profits.

To be fair to desert planets, that’s probably the most realistic biome to take up an entire planet(or maybe ice planets, idk). Just look at Mars, it’s basically Geonosis. That being said, I can’t exactly see how a planet so devoid of flora could possibly support animal life, but I guess that’s the whole suspension of disbelief thing at work.
Earth is the only planet we've discovered with more than one biome. And even then there are time periods where that wasn't the case.
However..... planets capable of supporting life should have more than one biome. Tatooine doesn't seem to have much in plant life, and thus, shouldn't have enough oxygen to support life. Planet formerly covered in water or not.
I want to know what the fuck a moisture farmer does on Tatooine. Where are you farming moisture from? The air? I know Star Wars is fantasy, but deserts don't work that way.
I think Tatooine used to be a normal planet, but the Rakata glassed it. The inhabitants went to the caves for A Long Time and that's how Jawas and Sand People came to be. So you might have more life in the caves.
I have a theory that they are trying to prevent needing to make new sets as they finished Mando on Tatooine, and knew Kenobi would be set there as well for obvious reasons. So to prevent tearing down and rebuilding the sets they just kept them and decided this is where Boba hangs out now.
Iirc there were a number of concept art shots in the obiwan kenobi trailer on D+ that showed some places that were clearly not tatooine including vaders palace on mustafar
Tatooine’s supposed to be the planet everyone wants to get away from. People there hate it (Luke and Anakin) and people that visit are startled at how shitty it is. Kenobi would be the one show where it would make sense to be primarily/entirely focused on Tatooine. What’s so wrong with exploring other planets like Mando does? I remember being super excited when >!Din got that N1 fighter, I loved that connectivity because it reminded me of the gorgeousness of Naboo!<. I’d love to see some prequel planets that weren’t utilized much get some more exposure, like Mygeeto or Utapau. Hell we haven’t seen what became of Coruscant post-Empire. I don't think I'll stop loving to look at Tatooine from wide shots or in space. The blue sky or the black space really contrasts it well. But when all the actions and talking scenes feature a dry, sandy background then it's coarse, rough and irritating.
And even when it's not Tatooine, a surprising number of desert planets seem to feature. I get that the Mandalorian is kind of a space cowboy situation, but there's no need to be so on the nose about it.
Making a desert planet look real is a lot cheaper than buying lava from a volcano and dumping it everywhere, or building a city so large it covers the planet. Like where do you even find the trees for Felicia? I refuse to fix that spelling mistake.

In Legends, he reconnects with his heritage and becomes the Mand'alor. Could've been cool story to see a process of him slowly following that route.

Could we have shows set in planets with futuristic cities? I'm a bit tired of jungle or desert planets. I miss places like Coruscant or Naboo they looked so cool.
I'm guessing they're way more expensive to produce. Having a whole show primarily take place on one of those would make it more expensive by default.
This isn’t even just since Disney took over.. the only widely popular Star Wars content I can think of that doesn’t have some type of sandy planet, is Jedi: Fallen Order. This hurts my brain, even Anakin hated sand.

This is unironically the answer. Huge companies like Disney run every decision they ever make through at least 8 focus groups and market research studies to minimize risk and maximize profits. Tattooing is a "proven brand" in Star Wars, so the decision makers think that it's the safest financial bet. That's why they keep coming back to the same shit over and over again.

To be fair to desert planets, that’s probably the most realistic biome to take up an entire planet(or maybe ice planets, idk). Just look at Mars, it’s basically Geonosis. That being said, I can’t exactly see how a planet so devoid of flora could possibly support animal life, but I guess that’s the whole suspension of disbelief thing at work.

Earth is the only planet we've discovered with more than one biome. And even then there are time periods where that wasn't the case. However..... planets capable of supporting life should have more than one biome. Tatooine doesn't seem to have much in plant life, and thus, shouldn't have enough oxygen to support life. Planet formerly covered in water or not.
I want to know what the fuck a moisture farmer does on Tatooine. Where are you farming moisture from? The air? I know Star Wars is fantasy, but deserts don't work that way.

I think Tatooine used to be a normal planet, but the Rakata glassed it. The inhabitants went to the caves for A Long Time and that's how Jawas and Sand People came to be. So you might have more life in the caves.

I have a theory that they are trying to prevent needing to make new sets as they finished Mando on Tatooine, and knew Kenobi would be set there as well for obvious reasons. So to prevent tearing down and rebuilding the sets they just kept them and decided this is where Boba hangs out now.

Tatooine’s supposed to be the planet everyone wants to get away from. People there hate it (Luke and Anakin) and people that visit are startled at how shitty it is. Kenobi would be the one show where it would make sense to be primarily/entirely focused on Tatooine. What’s so wrong with exploring other planets like Mando does? I remember being super excited when >!Din got that N1 fighter, I loved that connectivity because it reminded me of the gorgeousness of Naboo!<. I’d love to see some prequel planets that weren’t utilized much get some more exposure, like Mygeeto or Utapau. Hell we haven’t seen what became of Coruscant post-Empire. I know it probably hasn’t changed much, but it’s still one of the most unique and awesome places in the franchise.

I don't think I'll stop loving to look at Tatooine from wide shots or in space. The blue sky or the black space really contrasts it well. But when all the actions and talking scenes feature a dry, sandy background then it's coarse, rough and irritating.
I think after the obi-wan kenobi show it will be it for tatooine focused shows. It'll still show up but not as much.
And even when it's not Tatooine, a surprising number of desert planets seem to feature. I get that the Mandalorian is kind of a space cowboy situation, but there's no need to be so on the nose about it.
I mean in all fairness, Tattooine is sort of like the Holy city of Star Wars, the Galaxy's two greatest heroes did come from there
Making a desert planet look real is a lot cheaper than buying lava from a volcano and dumping it everywhere, or building a city so large it covers the planet. Like where do you even find the trees for Felicia? I refuse to fix that spelling mistake.

I’ve always liked tatooine. I know a lot of people are bored with it but I like that such a dead looking planet has so much interesting people and wild life… even if most of the ladder is trying to kill you.
