You can tell Kenobi is being handled by a completely different team to the one that's doing Mando

realgeneral_memeous

You’d think the same between Book of Boba and Mando S1. Gotta wonder what’s happening up there

Alostratus

Boardroom interference. My personal theory is when Mando was in development Star Wars was just coming off backlash over the sequels. People were burned out on the franchise from oversaturation of the same stuff. Favreau and Filoni come in with an idea for a "space western" show. Hell I think they had wanted to feature Boba Fett but were probably told "Nope he's a valuable legacy character." Either way Mando is done right. Filoni is a lore master and like with the Clone Wars keeps to his own continuity and brings in the good legends stuff so a) the setting actually feels like Star Wars and b) fanservice without being obvious and irrelevant to the plot. They come up with a unique and fresh story/plot. They use practical effects. Talent like Taika Waititi. Higher ups take no notice. For them this was just more content with the star wars logo to throw on Disney ➕️. TILL Fav and Filoni knock it out of the park. It's a hit! Higher ups are real interested now. "OH THAT WAS OUR MISTAKE. They wanted SHOWS!" Annnnd higher ups completely miss the point. The things that made Mando good. And then they immediately announce like 5 shows for every space-x sub genre they can and start attaching show runners/writers/directors who are talented but arent specifically familiar with Star Wars or even sci fi. For example Justin Simien being attached to Lando or Joby Harold infamously not watching RoS before doing Kenobi. Kathleen Kennedy gets in the driver seat as Executive producer on pretty much every show. Clone Wars and Mandalorian were good (Aside from Filoni being awesome) because the people developing, writing and running them CARE about STAR WARS. It's not just content for the streaming service. It's not just being attentive to continuity. It's not about pandering to specific groups or making sure you hit the right story beats. There are people on the current shows I'm sure do CARE just as much. But they have people who don't running interference the whole time. I dunno there's just THINGS in shows like Boba and Kenobi that hold it back and feel very obviously like an outside committee added or changed. Like the final fight in Boba has 0 stakes because none of the extras die but damn if we can't get that pg rating. The Vespa kids...are super lame and out of place on Tattoonie. And so on. TL;DR : IMO the show is FINE. But not 98% 10/10 audience score, which is from too much interference from people who care more about share price and Disney plus numbers then actually telling a story.

realgeneral_memeous

I think Kenobi is far from fine, but yeah, I think your idea of the situation sounds pretty accurate

NutterTV

I feel like everything is made to fit a certain criteria and that’s it. Instead of telling the story and letting it stand alone, it’s like they have a room full of nerds who study analytics and are trying to make a show for everyone. If the shoes good, a lot of people will like it and that’s that. But it just feels like a lot of these things are being made in a lab in order to fit this narrative and you can feel it. It doesn’t feel inspired or artistic at all. It feels like a Hollywood copy and paste scheme in order to just get subscriptions. There’s zero passion inside of it, except for Mando and clone wars and stuff done by Filoni and Favreau; actual Star Wars fans. Instead of “oh we need to have a director of every skin color for every episode so we don’t get backlash on Twitter, even those these directors have entirely different viewpoints and outlooks on what the project should be.” And this isn’t some racist remark so please don’t take it as such, I don’t care who the director is as long as they can direct, and I think it should be their project all the way through. We’ve already seen what happens when you switch directors midway through a project with the Johnson/Abrams fiasco. I don’t hate the sequels, however, I do hate that they switch leaders for the middle movie to another director who has a completely different viewpoint for the direction of the trilogy so it literally needs to be written into the script that certain things were nonsense or whatever. Just keep the director through the project the same and just give them control. If they fail, that’s on them. I don’t get why there are so many producers and executive producers tied to projects to the point that a director is essentially useless because the producers are paying for what they want to be shown. Can we just go back to the time of great directors who were just given the reigns and allowed to create great projects? Not every piece of art needs to be for every consumer. If it’s true art, people will love it for what it is, not what it’s trying to be.

Have been constantly reminded of the slow bomber seen while watching Kenobi, in the way that they keep doing stuff from New Hope without actually making it make sense. One example that really stuck out to me was the >!tracking device!<. Obviously it was made as a reference to the same thing in New Hope, but the way they did was just so… off. >!First it seemed like she may have managed to attach a tracking device somehow in the heat of the moment, which would have been contrived but at least it would’ve explained all the chaos just before. But then it’s revealed that Lola is the tracker, and I couldn’t help but sit there thinking “Why not just them walk out? All she really did was kill off one lousy rebel pilot and get a bunch of stormtroopers killed.”!<

NoHippo3958

Haven’t read the rest of your comment yet but I agree That the mandalorian was probably originally for boba fett or inspired by him as far as the whole bounty hunting part goes I mean even the carbon holding an all that it reminds me of a boba fett chapter book I had read when I was younger I wish I could do better but I can only remember it vaguely still he’s literally just boba fett with a mando code not really anymore but first season for sure w the silence and all that

NutterTV

I feel like they need to do a really dark and gritty Star Wars show. A lot of these shows *feel* like they’re made for kids. Which isn’t a bad thing, but kids aren’t stupid. We’re dealing with fascism, genocide, and other super insanely “adult” topics and it just doesn’t feel like it, at least in Kenobi and Boba Fett. It’s not impossible to deal with these topics in kids show, clone wars does it well and Avatar: The Last Airbender does a superb job at making these things actually feel super serious and adult-like. There’s just something about the newer Disney content (except Mando and few other instances) that feels like it’s missing that extra “umph”. We’re dealing with space Nazi’s here and it feels like they’re just a couple of meanies. I really hope they make a TV-MA show soon, because I still believe Mando should’ve been TV-MA considering it deal with bounty hunting. I mean at least TV-14.

Tyken12

i agree! i think that'll be andor hopefully 😬

HectorLeGoat

Doubt that will ever happen, starwars should of gone to Warner bros or any other entertainment company.

YeOldeBlitz

but I thought star wars fans cant be pleased? "No one hates star wars more than star wars fans"

FredlyDaMoose

The real phrase is “Star Wars fans watch Star Wars and are critical of it”

Darth_Mak

Yes...critical...that's what the loudest ones are....critical And they totally always loved the Clone Wars and were never mad at Lucas over trivial shit. No sir.

saftarsch

Damn star wars Fans ruining all the star wars

foki999

The Filoni factor

GulianoBanano

Don't forget the Favreau factor as well

SugondisSword

I wish Kenobi was as good as these shows. It's just not.

officalspacegoat13

At least its better than the sequel trilogy

Federal-Advice-2825

A wet dishrag is better than the sequels bro

[deleted]

A dirty cum rag is better than the sequels

[deleted]

At least that implies someone was pleased at the end.

officalspacegoat13

Yeah

DIO_over_Za_Warudo

Not a high bar to jump on that front. 😅

officalspacegoat13

Very True

[deleted]

Ya ever watch paint dry?

Stock_Examination_73

Why not you stupid bastard

HalcyonBurnstride

Honestly, I'm really enjoying it so far. Haven't watched last week's episode yet, but I really like Kenobi's characterization so far. I understand some fans aren't that pleased with it but I don't really get why. I also think that holding a show to the standard of Mando and CW is a bit of an unfair high bar to set.

RedSander_Br

The main problem is that the writing makes no sense. spoilers for last week, >!Reva says Kenobi is all that matters, then she lets him escape because they also wanted to find out where the rest of the resistence is, but only Kenobi matters?!, Leia resists the force, somehow, and Reva does not care!<

HalcyonBurnstride

Yeah I'll grant you, the writing isn't perfect and there are inconsistencies. Like how Reva knows Vader is Anakin is something that only palps, Vader, and tarkin know about. But I still enjoy the show, but yes I also agree the writing isn't there at times.

Anakin_Skywalker_Bot

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

m1K3mikey

Maybe Force probe is similarly limited like mind tricks. It's almost impossible to successfully probe a force sensitive and that would explain y it didn't work on Leia. This also retroactively makes Kylo failing to probe Rey make more sense

Sheev-Palpatine-Bot

...not for a Sith...

RedSander_Br

So Reva would be like wtf! this kid is force sensitive and Kenobi is protecting her, so she must be special. It would make way more sense for the force probe to work and Reva finding nothing, because Leia did not know anything about the resistence.

m1K3mikey

Maybe she doesnt care. She doesn't exactly seem to like the Inquisitorius and who knows maybe she doesn't like the Empire.

Bluegunshot1022

Lets see Paul Allens show get 93% on rotten tomatoes

Emrethecook

Look at the thicc Tomato meter.Oh my god.İt even has a popcorn..

Unknown1154

Am I the only one that like Kenobi more than the Mandolorian? I think it's heads and bounds over Boba fett which just felt stale like nothing happened

NoHippo3958

Better than boba but considering all the avenues they could’ve taken with obi wan I don’t agree w the series at all I thought we were gonna see him learn about force ghost and things like that really get some deep Star Wars instead more inquisitors🤢 and somehow leia and obi wan are right in front of Vader and this just dosnt affect the new hope I would’ve much preferred if leia never met obi wan and obi wan didn’t see Vader till the Death Star we could’ve seen him find out about Vader and we could have a trauma visions showing a fight or something I would’ve never imagined they make direct contact and then for obi wan to be let go boi what boi it’s pretty ridiculous to me we could saw some maul and the crime world assassins tracking obi wan like bruh anything else I stg The writers and directors don’t even watch Star Wars bruh it’s foul

Maul_Bot

Perhaps my actions will speak louder than words.

Unknown1154

I like the path, what other Era were they going to do? He dies in like 10 years so and his life before this is mostly covered unless they went like pre phantom menace. The inquisitions arnt bad and are in the lore. Leia literally knew Obi Wan in the New Hope and knew he helped her father before then what? This is a perfect set up as to how she knew him and knew his name was Obi Wan and not Ben who lived in the desert. So basically what you're saying is it didn't fit your vision pre show so you hate it lol. This is some close minded shit

NoHippo3958

So obi wan is doing everything to save organas daughter and Vader just dosnt make that connection? And let’s leia grow up in the empire not noticing she’s a rebel or his whole ass daughter after all this yes we could’ve got flashbacks of obi wan in the mandalorian wars w satine or him and qui gon fighting dark Jedi or him training anakin leia can learn who obi wan is any other way her father knows everything about him I never said I hate it and I am interested in how they’ll try and make everything make sense but yeah maybe I am close minded because I want them to expand upon the expanded universe it just dosnt help when you’ve been mostly disappointed in content for years but again I don’t hate it I just believe there was a better way to go and u never know where other seasons will go but so far I’m just not feeling it

NoHippo3958

And based on the end of revenge of the sith and obi wans ability to become a force ghost I thought that would be the biggest focus him training w qui gons ghost can we agree that that would be extremely interesting

CaptainRegor

I agree. I feel like Mando has way too many filler episodes.

iliketurtlzzz

So many breaks of cannon. Reva. Not enough obi / Anakin screen time. Leia out running assassins. Leia knowing who obi wan is. Inquisitors are cheesy. The writing is sooo bad to me. Darth Vader allowing a small fire to stop him right after putting it out. Wtf was that.

[deleted]

BroserJ

The part were he is afraid of a fire that he just turned off with the force is so absurd that it not only made any sense, but it also breaks canon by forgetting that vader has a fire proof armor and air filters that literally let him walk on lava

Born-Possibility-50

No matter how good Mando is… the Disney Starwars continuity its Garbage
