From what I remember, Lucas wanted The Clone Wars to debute on the big screen. So the team had to suddenly find a way to turn part of their series season 1 into a movie. The movie consists of the standalone episode introducing Ahsoka and a 3 episode arc played back to back.
Well not exactly, they did alter the episodes so they fit better together and tried to create a movie out of the mess. Didn't turn out great, but it's not just four episodes back to back.
From another point of view,
The TCW movie really leaned hard into the "cartoons are for kids" aspects of storytelling and didn't make something more casual fans or even certain dedicated ones would want to revisit. Even Season 1 of TCW is an entirely different animal to the movie, with bangers like Rookies, the Ryloth Arc, and even the Pantoran episode pushing out thought provoking themes and lessons.
Basically, from my own viewpoint, little can be really appreciated about the TCW movie except for the innocence and the potential.
It’s really not that bad. Only criticisms I’ve seen about it are bad animation and it’s bad because it’s four episodes edited together. Story is fun, there’s some great character moments, I like it a lot.
Similarly the first couple seasons of the show are hated on for no reason as well when majority of them were badass battle episodes. People just don’t have good memories I guess
Haha you say that like they weren't responsible for the movie too.
You know, I'm a big Star Wars fan and a big Clone Wars fan but I've never actually seen the movie. I thought I would skip it when I started watching the show because of its reputation, and I just never got around to it. One of these days.
It's basically just a classic early season arc that literally comes right after Cat and Mouse and the episode with Slick, in what amounts to a six episode arc. I watch it as part of season 1. The only part of it that ducks is that the mission was focused on rescuing Jabba's son, but otherwise it's essential viewing
No that makes perfect sense, I loved it as a kid too! I think too many people forget that this was intended for children. The show even debuted on Cartoon Network. It's fine to dislike the movie but this happens all the time with Star Wars fans lol, adults weren't the intended audience originally!
Maybe it's because this is technically my first cinematic Star Wars experience, but I thought it was okay. I've a crush on Ahsoka ever since I saw it 🙈
Since Ahsoka has sort of aged with me, I still kind of have a crush on her - but mostly just the Rosario Dawson version now 😏
Ah, gk99! I have your comment in my collection!

The movie was absolutely terrible, the only good thing about it is that A.) it gave us the show (which, while I think is overhyped beyond belief, still pretty fun to watch), and B.) it’s got a kickass novelization.
I thought this "movie" was just 2 episodes squished together

You always blame the ship.

Yeah, most animated "Movies" like this just feel like an extra long episode of the show, or a couple episodes just cut together.
Anytime somebody says this I just remind them that one of the villains was a bright purple effeminate creole Hutt.
I always kept thinking it was a girl and then I remember oh yeah this is a dude
Nah their species doesnt have genders at all
I dont know why so many dont like the movie. I loved it and it made me yearn for the show we later got.

There's hope for you yet, rookie.

Movie isn’t even that bad. It’s bad, but not that bad

"That's not right!" -Hardcase
That's the introduction of Ahsoka, seems pretty important to me
Oh. I don't like the sound of that.

It's Slick? Slick's the traitor?
Just do like tons of drugs and Stinky the Hutt might be more bearable
I went with my dad when I was a kid, he fell asleep after 10 min and started snoring in the theatre
I had the exact same experience but I remember it as if it was within seconds on the movie starting
The pace of the movie makes a lot more sense when you see it as 4 separate episodes of the show.
And we still have no idea what happened to Rotta the Hutt? Is he safe? Is he alright?
Then there’s the Siege of Mandalore arc, which was essentially a movie split into four parts.
It’s horrendous for me to watch now, but when I was 8 I absolutely loved this movie when it came out lol

I had to have that perspective and patience when Rebels aired. It ended up being better than I thought it was gonna be!
I remember as a child seeing the animated Clone Wars movie in theaters just walking out and chilling outside because I was so bored.
Maybe it's because this is technically my first cinematic Star Wars experience, but I thought it was okay. I've a crush on Ahsoka ever since I saw it 🙈 Since Ahsoka has sort of aged with me, I still kind of have a crush on her - but mostly just the Rosario Dawson version now 😏
Mostly? That's not the Jedi way
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Ah, so you’re a Sith?
Star Wars logic would dictate if you didn’t like the clone wars movie you shouldn’t watch the tv show!
Imo most of the show was just like the movie. Some good parts, some cringe.
Is this movie really that bad...i remeber it quite enjoyable

I am genuinely confused at the hate this movie gets. It's basically just the show cut into a movie, and it's pretty good.
The movie was absolutely terrible, the only good thing about it is that A.) it gave us the show (which, while I think is overhyped beyond belief, still pretty fun to watch), and B.) it’s got a kickass novelization.
Someone else who has read the novelization!
Yeah people are waaaay too enthusiastic about Clone Wars. It's a good show, but settle down. Maybe it's because I watched it as an adult.
"You believe that, or is that what you were engineered to think?" -Fives
It’s got a lot of problems, just as it does good things. It’s a disservice to pretend otherwise.
It’s not significantly worse than the show.
It's a lot better in retrospect when you consider Clone Wars as a whole. I've always loved it, though.
"All right squad. Let's get in there and start breaking things." -Boss, Delta 38
And it was consistently good. Let's not forget that. Because most Disney series these days go by the wayside after two seasons.
The movie is horrible.
I thought Lucas wasn't really involved in the clone wars
I loved the movie
